WOW. So glad Dave is knowledgable about these things and that you put the fuel in a container instead of into a truck. Thank you Karen too, for the research. This was a very serious issue. - Jim & Michelle
Interesting. Surprised that hasn’t happened more around the country. Someone needs to invent a sensor attached to the fuel inlet to detect the fuel a different fuel being than what it’s supposed to be.
As a retired mechanic, have seen that many times. Last time driver filled diesel with gas and gas with diesel so had a several diesels and gas burners not running
@ best thing for your situation is that it’s in a jug. Now imagine pulling up in your truck and filling up. Only way to know is drive off and engine quits running
Good catch. Smell and appearance are the first and most basic quality checks. Unfortunately, most fuel stations in the U.S. are totally dependent upon the delivery truck driver to make sure the delivered product is what it should be and gets put where it should be put. Today's delivery drivers never see the fuel and most never smell it. In aviation, we used physically different connection fittings to prevent fuel mixtures. However, that was easily overcome by all of the adapters in the delivery trucks fitting box. We also required every load to be sampled, with various tests performed prior to delivery. I could tell a few horror stories... My suggestion - Keep receipts for every fuel purchase, proving location of purchase and fuel type. That won't prevent the problem, but may help with the headaches and bills that follow.
My Dad filled up his car with diesel one time. Caught his mistake before he started the car. Had to have the car towed to shop. They drained the tank flushed it out best they could. Very expensive mistake, it smoked a little for a while and cleaned the engine up real good.
I maybe wrong but I heard that diesel is more close to the crude oil pumped. And gasoline has to go through a process to get it. I was hoping that you name the gas station this happened at in case someone did get the same thing and they don't know why their vehicle engine was ruin. Yes, they changed it out but they won't notify anyone.
Yeah if a Bosch CP-4 diesel fuel pump grenade’s it will cause about $12,000 damage to the engine. Where the fuel and gas is dumped the covers are supposed to be color coded. The driver made a mistake if a driver is dumping at night may not have had good lighting to see what hole to connect the hose to ?
I use to put gas in my Diesel everytime I fueled up my semi and I use to drive over the road it can keep the fuel from jailing up and clean my Injectors put I had 300 gallon tanks and put 5 gallon of gas in each tanks
But my peterbilt had a big 550 cat turned all the way up too and a guy that work as a cat Mechanic and also building semi motors told me to put 5 gallons of gas in my 300 gallons tanks but I was always pumping 285 gallons of Diesel fuel in my tanks every time I fueled
Well I've been there done that 😂, my ex put gas in our diesel car , luckily only 2 gallons , I filled the tank with about 10 more gallons of diesel and got away with it although I was extremely lucky and the engine was pretty bulletproof , it was a Peugeot 306 diesel , here's how bulletproof it was , after this event passed I decided to run it on unused new filtered cooking oil 😂😂, I used to get it free from my work in 20ltr drums , at the time I lived next to a policeman , he used to see me filling it and asked if I had a problem as he'd noticed me doing it every week ...when I called him over and showed him it was cooking oil he was blown away , I ran that car on cooking oil for 3yrs solid doing about 40,000 miles without one single problem, only issue was everytime I pulled up anywhere it smelt like I'd been cooking fries 😂😂😂😂😂
@ yes she is, and I think she great..I did not want to sound like she was not smart..I have lost someone close and am still healing..I depended so much on him and his good sense to take care of me..I was only kidding with her..I hope she never loses him..
Can Dave take Lloyd under his wing for…oh say…6 months or so and teach him how to pay attention to these types of things? No? Dang it! Lol…I love you guys and Dave is very special…hold on tight Karen!
It must be something he drinks 😉 I don't know how he knows all the stuff and when I ask him how do you know all this stuff, he says "I don't know". Jack of all trades and master of quite a few. :)
Dave, the City of Portland fuel company fueled our fleet of 350 trucks plus all of our equipment. The ironic thing is us drivers caught it. All of our trucks had to be pumped down, all fuel filters removed. And it did over 50k in damage to some of our heavy equipment. City required the fuel company to post a 150k bond now. Thanks, Jim & Michelle. We are glad we caught it in time. Sure glad we weren't filling the truck.
@@WattsOnWheels Right? for sure. How sad for anyone who put that in there tank. 😢
Good catch Dave, that could have been bad. That should've been good for a few extra beers 🍻
Thanks, yeah I'm glad we caught it. No problem...more beer.
After having that done to me i always put a visual sample of diesel in a glass beaker.
Great idea!
Glad that Dave found it out early! Hello ole suburban!
Dennis
We are too. Da burb is running good.
Holy 💩 glad Dave caught this give that man a beer or 3
No kidding. What a great catch. Glad we weren't filling the truck.
Definitely score the high pressure pump.
That would be bad glad you guys showed that one
Glad you watched.

I know. It has to have happened before, somewhere. Good idea.
Good catch Dave!!! ❤
Thanks

Hopefully someone will see this video and it will help them prevent having this kind of problem in the future.
@ best thing for your situation is that it’s in a jug. Now imagine pulling up in your truck and filling up. Only way to know is drive off and engine quits running
Sucks to be one of the ones that didn't catch it ! I'm actually surprised it doesn't happen more often.
It probably happens more than we realize and people just think there is something wrong with their vehicle.

BP near our house.
Also most insurance companies will cover the repairs for fuel systems
That's good, but you are still out of a car for awhile and have to deal with the headaches and deductibles.
Wow! Way to catch that! No telling how often this happens and the shop blames you for using the wrong pump! 😢
I'm so glad I caught it! So easy to miss.
Thank guys most people don’t even pay attention to there fuel costly mistake 🙏🙏
Hopefully this info will help someone in the future.

Good thing he caught it.
WOW. Where was that??
At BP near our house.

Wow, not good. The company I work with we have gas and diesel trucks. The owner has mixed up a couple times, It's a real.
Pain.
Oh yeah. It could have been mixed up when they filled the tanker...not completely empty. Separate trucks is a good idea.

We don't know when it was dumped at the station. It could even happen where the tank got filled. Scary.

I've heard of that. Glad it worked.
Hey Dave how many miles on the suburban now?
Dennis
Around 260000 :) hope to get 400000 out of him
@ I saw a video the other day with a guy that just turned over 450,000 on his……..I am sure you will hit it!

Well, guess he'd know.
WOW
Scary.
You guys have a dream setup
Thanks so much Donnie.
@WattsOnWheels just being curious what is your total weight with the little car and everything?
But also my peterbilt was a 2000 year truck
OK

That's amazing. I was thinking, I bet it smelled like food cooking and would be hungry all the time. :)
Well Karen I really hope you go first.Dave is just not replaceable..Have a good day and good year..👍☕️🇺🇸😀 just saying, not trying to be mean

@@kimgoad1820 thank you..
I know you are kidding. We make a good team.
My brother did this to his new duramax, all new fuel system then shortly afterwards the motor blew
Oh wow. That's terrible.

It’s not my fault, they told me where to put it, the tank lid must have been swapped, I’m new at this, 🤷🏼♂️
