For a good example of the competition watch the first performance of Delilah's "Grenade" from the same Season. TBH even as much as I abso friggin lutely love PTX if the competition had just been based on the first song Delilah would have had it. Committed from season 2s first song "This Love" was also just out of the park, and I thank God every day that PTX and Committed were in different seasons.

Fetus PTX! So glad you are doing these. It's a great ride! By the way, through much of this performance, especially during Mitch & Kirstie's solos, Avi is doing "overtone singing", where he sings a bass note, and then does a whirring note or a whistle tone above it. It's so cool, because they only have 5 people but it sound like more. He does it in various other S-O performances, too. I think the camera-person thought it was Kirstie, because they are on her during Mitch's solo.

Nice reaction. I love going through these with new reactors. It is such an amazing journey. They started off strong but there were other strong groups, much bigger and more experienced. It was not a sure thing. One of the great things about their performances is that they listened to the judges. Excellent judges by the way. So many people don't listen. Yes, PTX is talented, nice, funny, generous people who love music and have crazy work ethic but they also listen to critiques and learn. You see that in this journey. That's one of the reasons their last performance is so powerful. You can trace that performance all the way back to this one. You see how they took everything they learned each week and applied it to their natural talent. I've subscribed. Looking forward to this journey with you!

Actually this was their second performance as a group. The first one was the audition for the contest. They didn't meet Kevin until the day before that first performance. Also, they were very new for this performance. As you go through the performances you will see that they grew so much as the contest went along. It will be really fun for you to watch that growth. Can't wait to watch you react to the rest of the performances. - they sang for the first time only 1 day before they tried out for Sing Off. Scott and their producer (Ben Bram) pooled their $$ to fly Kevin out for the audition (Kevin was pre-med at Yale ). It is amazing to see how young they were and the progress they make each week!! I wish the judges had mentioned Avi's overtone singing..it still awes me when he hits those notes!!

There’s a video that announced Avi leaving Pentatonix. It’s very sad but they all supported his decision.

The first 3 songs of their's are kinda rough. But after that they figured it out and have been great ever since! Some of their best performances are week 5, 6, 10, & 12!! So don't give up after 3 performances like some UA-camrs have!!

Such fun going back to watch and see others reactions! They were lil' Penta-babies! They've grown so much and a group and individually as well!
Love Matt, but still...miss Avi so much.

Scott, Mitch and Kirstin were only 19 here just babies they have all grown so much vocally I've been a fan since 2013 first saw Daft Punk then searched UA-cam for anything I could find on them lol. One of my favourite old performances they did was the National Anthem at a Charlotte Bobcats Basketball game just after the Sing Off and it is unbelievably good. And if you haven't already you should check out Home Free too they were on Season 4 of The Sing Off.

Nice to know you're a fellow Texan. I, too, grew up about 15 minutes from Arlington. My brother lives there now and my mother's cousin lives in Arlington and was involved with the Arlington ISD music program.

Great reaction! I'm amazed at how much you notice in your first listen. I didn't pick out that awesome riff near the end until about the 20th time through. Also, I only recently heard Avi's actual overtones--the high whistle-tone part, not just the eerie baseline. (That's probably because I finally bought good headphones, though, instead of just earbuds.) I'm doing this journey with you out of order-sorry!

This is only their second performance together so it was pretty raw. It is interesting that Kevin had no real desire for a career in music and didn't want to come out for the audition but Scott talked him into it by paying half his plane ticket. Kevin had just graduated from Yale, pre -med and Asian studies (he speaks flawless Mandarin, by the way) but I saw an interview where he said that when they first met they all clicked like it was meant to be (YAY). I hope you go through all the performances and see how they improved as they went. There are some absolutely killer performances that will make you think they have been performing for years.
