  • Time to set up some nuclear power! This is the first time I've ever hand-built nuclear instead of using a blueprint!

    The video is a bit shorter because I needed a little break from editing so much.

    I love how you used circuit conditions for the uranium instead of using the priority function on the splitters (which you clearly know how to use). Just funny quirks of your factory I suppose!

    8:49 You can get insane pumping speeds by connecting the pumps to tanks directly, without pipes.

      Ha! I couldn't help but notice that as well, although "nucular" is a perfectly normal pronunciation IIRC just not the most widely used

    I'm really happy I found your channel. I honestly thought you were a big guy with millions of subs because of how good your content is. You have great pacing and your really good at keeping things snappy but also explaining stuff for people like me who are pretty new to Factorio. Keep it up and I'm sure you'll see some explosive growth.
    Also is having all the lines of your bus together hard to manage? I really like the way it looks and it doesn't look to hard to deal with. Also how long have you been playing Factorio?

      Hey welcome! Thanks for the positivity!
      And to answer your question, yes having everything on the bus right next to each other is kind of painful sometimes. But it does make for some spaghetti nonsense, which I love :)

    Freaking love it now. Gotta make sure people never forget that and Wako

    For loading oil onto trains if you hook the pump directly to the tank (tank -> pump -> train vs tank -> pipes -> pump -> train), it fills the train almost instantly.

    8:50. This is a couple months old so maybe you updated since.
    Try going straight from tank to pump to train, no pipes. Pumps have a massive throughput, but pipes don't (Sorta). A single pump/tank combo can fill a train at 12000 fluid per second (Regardless of how full the tank is), but if you have the setup like that pump speed is dependent on the amount of fluid left in the tanks.

    8:50 from what i understood reading the wiki a while back, the fastest way to load/unload an oil train is to pump directly into/out of tanks
    This is because a pipe has 100 fluid storage, while pumps can pump 200 fluid per tick. and fluid tries to equalise over a network so
    tick one: you empty the pipe
    tick 2: pipes with 100 and 0 are next to eachother, euqlizing to 50, you pump out 50
    repeat. so you're getting at most a quarter of the maximum speed of moving liquid, if not actually less than a sixth
    Also edit, the kovarex enrichment's check if you have enough should probably be after the spot where the machines pick up their U-235

    I use productivity modules in my centrifuges and speed beacons around them and after a while it goes mad fast!
    Was wondering if you know whether it's possible to reduce the extra materials that factories/centrifuges take in as a buffer?
    I had to hand feed some centrifuges to get them to work more efficiently and it really sucks lol.

    • @DocJade
      @DocJade  Рік тому

      Unless you get into the nitty gritty and use combinators to track the movements of items, no, I don't think there is a way.
      but once you have koverax enrichment, the buffers arent really a problem anymore after an hour or so :)

  • @GeneralBolas
    @GeneralBolas Рік тому +1

    FYI: Kovarex really isn't all *that* important. No, really, it's not.
    If you do the math (or use a Factorio calculator), if you have about 20 miners feeding 6 (unbeaconed or moduled) centrifuges, you get U-235 on average fast enough to run *eight* nuclear reactors continuously. And indeed, 1 Kovarex (no beacons or modules) is enough to run *thirty-three* reactors. So 4 Kovarex is absolute overkill.
    This is all because 1 U-235 produces 10 fuel cells (or 14 with prod 3s), and each fuel cell lasts 200 seconds. So in total, you get 2000 seconds of power, which is ~33 minutes for one reactor. If you have 4 reactors, you need to produce a U-235 every ~8 minutes. Which is absolutely not a lot, and doesn't require Kovarex at all).

    I don't know if you read comments on old videos but how do you get in the mindset of doing everything somewhat suboptimal? I have a hard time starting with a run because everything looks spaghetti and is a mess and not running the best it could run.
    I love watching this series so far because it shows some of the struggles

    • @DocJade
      @DocJade  5 місяців тому +2

      I think many new players see Factorio content on UA-cam that convinces them that there is a "right" way to play the game, and if you don't play like that, you are playing it "wrong".
      Take a step back, and realize that _getting_ to the end of the game is more important than _how_ you got to the end of the game.
      Embrace the chaos!
      Who cares if you might have to fix something later?! That's for later you to deal with! :D
