    My parents were extremely irresponsible pet owners, my childhood was a zoo and they weren’t selling/making money off of it and they weren’t even taking the upmost care of them. It’s a big part of the reason why I’m so passionate about animals today. We had a gator, I wish I had a better memory from that time bc I don’t know what kind (i was like 6) it was originally our neighbors and my mother hated seeing the way he treated it, he would make it stand on its back legs and pour beer down it’s throat like a party trick. (He was only about 2- 2 1/2 feet long so he must have been young) but instead of doing the right thing and surrendering it to someone who can either truly care for it or release it into its natural habitat (very far from PA where I live) she decided to care for it herself. And while her intentions were good, she dismissed the fact that these are not easy animals to care for, nor are they safe in a home with children. When you said “living in their basement” it REALLY sent me into the past. Our gator had a doorless room in our basement, he had a large black reptile tub full of water and we would feed him raw meats we picked up from the super market. Back to the doorless part…this gator was secured with a baby gate. A BABY GATE keeping him from finding his way up the stairs and into a home with multiple children and other pets (dogs/cats) The biggest problem though, was when we needed to move from that house and my mother realized there was no way in hell to transport that gator (now about 5-6 feet) and I never saw him again after that move. My only and best assumption is that she dumped him in the river behind our house. Which is so unbelievably dangerous and irresponsible and it was all because she decided to take the animal on in the first place. if anyone actually reads this I really appreciate it! It’s just a weird little story but it shows a good example of why you can’t and shouldn’t keep certain pets. I in no way support or condone her actions and like I said, it’s one of the biggest reasons why I have such a passion and appreciation for animals now, just hoping it adds a little more perspective

I donated all to a zoo after only a year of keeping them, and while I am still a relocator and handler, I will never keep hot again.
    Crocs had a whole other problem, as you mentioned, of just the space requirements. The costs got really out of hand quickly.

So I want one for display but it would take like 20 years to prepare for it............so probably not now that I vocalize it.

Then the camera panned to show a small python...no one even interacted with it, so they could've easily just used a clip or even a still image of an actual rattlesnake in the scene...

I've tried 3 times and no matter what or how I did it, they all died. One I had lasted about 3 months and even was eating on his own, it died and I just don't think it's a good animal to have. • @greyo3574
      @greyo3574 3 роки тому +4

      i think he has made a video about reptiles for kids but some of my recommendations would be corn snake, garters, rosy boa, sand boa, a male bi (used to be bci) as theyre smaller than the females. king and milk snakes are also great along with pretty. if you want to get more of a display snake id recommend maybe some rough or smooth green snakes (theyre actually insectivores too.)
      for lizards leopards geckos, african fat tail geckos, a tamed skink, or if you’re confident in your ability to care for one, a beardie. if you’re looking for a display lizard she’d like to watch rather than touch, day geckos especially giant days are pretty gorgeous to look at just bad for handling.

    • @kenjisaurus8150

    There was an Australian reptile youtuber who made the news a couple of years ago because he got bitten by his pet inland taipan, he keeps pythons and lots of hots, and he later said that the inland wasn't the one he thought he'd get bitten by, he thought the brown snake would bite him. Now in Australia, we have anti-venom, and our anti-venom is combined for snakes, so you don't have to know what snake bit you, and to have hots like that you need the highest license, first aid training and a first aid kit in your reptile room. He admitted it was his fault, but even the most trained keepers can get accidentally bitten by the most venomous snake in the world.
    This is why I won't own hot hots in my personal collection because I like to take my snakes out by hand, and I know I am careless and forgetful sometimes. If I worked somewhere with hots I wouldn't be careless, because it's work, but I know my personal collection's limits. I would have a green tree snake or other small 'warm' snakes whose venom would only hurt if I was allergic to it.
