In my experience, bearded dragons CAN be kind of like dogs. Not reliably. Each one is a dice roll where you can either end up with a loving affectionate companion or an angry hermit. Sometimes they will be super-geniuses and sometimes they are as dumb as a bucket of gravel.
On second thought, this sounds like a cat.

My bearded dragon will be two in may, he’s the first and only reptile in I’ve own and he runs to the glass and gets mad when I don’t pet him or pick him up!
My sister came over last weekend and he ran up to her and relaxed when she pet him, honestly he likes people attention! He was flighty as a baby and would jump! Once he jumped from my hands to the floor and I got so nervous l, eventually he tamed down after pulling him out at night and watching movies with him in the dark, little by little I took him out in the day and tried the outside.
He’s nothing like my pitbull that wants constant attention but he’s close behind lol

Interesting list. People always seem to relate pets to dogs and cats, so this comparison to dogs is nice for the mainstream pet owners. Most of these reptiles would not be good for the new keeper unless they did a research paper amount investigating into their husbandry. Reptile species with all their diversity brings with it such differing husbandry. That is one of the reasons that we have various reptiles, just to enjoy that diversity. Dogs and cats are far simpler in that respect but we own them as well...lol.

Once I had him settled on my chest or shoulder, he usually calmed down, but if I put my hand in his enclosure, he would try to bite me. Can 100% agree with the tegu's. I have an Argentine Red Tegu and he is one of the most cuddly reptiles I have ever owned in my life. Even being a baby all he ever wants is attention. Most reptiles also would never want your hands near their face. At least mine and the one you showed love their head scratched and pet. Mine actually would rather I sat down with him and just pet his head for 30 minutes rather than me touch his body and such. He is a very lovable and dog like pet. He is very inquisitive and wants to go run around EVERYWHERE. Along with this, very much like a puppy. When I first got him he wanted to kind of nip at everything and wanted to run around everywhere, now though he doesn't even see me as food. I am very excited for him to get bigger and watch him grow :D

Hey love the video! It really is special when reptiles are able to show affection like that. But it seems you've missed one reptile in particular that sadly i don't think is well known in this regard. The Red Eared Slider is a commonly known house pet that are in many cases unfortunately mistreated or let go into the wild bc of lack of knowing how to care for them, but these creatures, if taken care of correctly, can be one of the most expressive and affectionate reptiles I've ever seen!
I'm using my turtle, Lyla, who's a very sweet girl, as the basis for this example:
She didn't immediately show affection when i got her as a baby, rather being shy and very skittish. It was about a year until she started to be comfortable around me and my father. We tried giving her attention for every time we fed her, hoping she'd be more comfortable with us touching her shell. She would stop running back into the water when she saw us while on her basking platform at around ~2 years old.
But it's by around ~3 years she began to really show her affection and trust for us. We've had her for about 5 years now, and I want to detail how she behaves now that she's gotten to trust us. She seems to really enjoy receiving attention. Every time she sees us, she swims up to the water's surface and splashes around in crazy excitement. When we near her she'll stretch her neck as high as she can and will sorta puff out her neck like a frog when croaking. That's usually when I stick my arm in the tank and rub her head and neck, which she seems to enjoy. I'll rub her head some more, hold her little soft hands which are so cute, and she'll try using my hand holding as a platform to push herself up closer to me. She Loves back scratches/rubs which really reminds me of how I pet a dog, and gives a little butt wiggle dance when I do. She's recently begun getting so exited while I pet her that she's starting to climb up her basking platform just to get closer to me.
Now what sets this apart from everything else is what seems the most astonishing to me. So Red Eared Sliders are just crazy for food. They don't know when they're full and will just keep eating and eating, which is why I keep track of how much I feed her for her own health. I've read they'll constantly beg for food, which was what I figured she was doing this whole time, but eventually she just began to ignore the food completely rather seeming to want attention instead, even swiping away the food I put right in front of her! It's not that she isn't hungry, as she'll eventually start eating once she realizes we're not going to pet her anymore (which ngl kinda makes me feel bad).
I've never seen a turtle, let alone a red eared slider, blatantly ignore food for human attention instead, and that tells me there's actual affection going on rather than just instinctual attraction for food. She allows, and seems to really like me to pet her where she'd be most vulnerable in the wild, which shows just how much she trusts me(and my father as she acts just like this with him too, but not with strangers, I assume because she doesn't recognize them, which I think is also incredible). Which is why in my mind, the closest thing to love in nature is trust. And Lyla surely does show a lot of it. I've never seen so much personality from a turtle. She's just such a joy to have, and I can't wait for the bond that'll strengthen in the next 30 or so years that she'll live. It's just such a shame that I don't ever see people seeing the same thing, probably because it just hasn't been properly documented since it requires years of proper care and attention.
And fun fact: I recently found out red eared sliders start to dig into the rocks at the bottom of their tank when they're bored. And more interestingly, just like dogs, they love to play with toys! There's all sorts of things that could be used as "turtle toys", anything from plastic Ping-Pong balls, large marbles, to light-up bath toys(they especially like the color red). I'm certainly going to get my turtle some toys soon, as she definitely deserves something for being such a good girl.

Making sure the animals are good. I came across Loki by himself. I started asking questions related to him. But realizing how much he seemed just so sweet. My sister-in-law told me, if u want him… Get him… I now own him, and he is such a sweet heart. ^^

We had a Rock Iguana when I was growing up and at no point during his 4 years with us was he EVER friendly. From the time we got him until my dad gave him to a pet store buddy, he snapped and hissed and whipped his tail whenever we'd come around. We tried countless times to tame him but it just wouldn't happen.
Our Nile monitor on the other hand was definitely a dog. We used to take him to the lake to go camping and swimming with us and he roamed the house and would crawl up on the couch and watch TV with us.
    Definitely individual personalities lol

I honestly thought an Asian Water Monitor would be on this list, but between the space needed for those vs a Tegu or Rock Iguana, I may opt for one of those 2 honestly. I am wanting a lizard/monitor I plan to raise and heavily socialize just like I have with my Retics and Green Anny. They're incredibly sweet. Sweeter than my Burm and most other snakes, but space can definitely be an issue. I have a room I can dedicate to a decent sized scale dog as well. Your videos are definitely helping me with my decisions, so I'd love to see a Rock iguana video to see if that's truly one I'd go for!

    • @nicks1063

Look into Argus monitors, they're SUPER intelligent and very trainable (check out Joseph Carter the Mink Man's videos on his Argus) and they don't get quite as huge as an Asian Water Monitor!

@@marquendra I'm torn between heloderms and monitors for my favorite lizards. A socialized salvator is more outgoing, but one of my gila monsters was great. I bought him as an adult of unknown age in 1981 and had him until 2013 or 2014, with no apparent aging. Unlike my other gila, Herman never tried to bite. When I kept him in the bathtub, if I accidently knocked a clothes hanger off the shower curtain rod, he'd panic and look for danger until I let him smell and taste my hand. I introduced him to my dogs and cats since they could reach him there. One of the cats visited him daily for about 7 years. Just remember that every animal is an individual, and their bite is painful.

    • @marquendra
      @marquendra 2 роки тому +1

@@jeffthompson9622 I'm always viewing them as an individual. It's how I have the best kinships with each one of my snakes, which happen to be 4 Reticulated pythons and a Green Anaconda. I'm definitely familiar with pain, but it's also incredibly rare for it to happen if each animal is treated with respect and interacted with as you would a different person. They're so different in many ways!

I have no knowledge or interest in reptiles, but UA-cam thought this would be right up my alley as a dog owner. It was a very interesting watch.
Don't worry, I'm not running out to buy one! ;) Walking a dog for an hour every day seems a lot easier than taking care of a reptile. You put food in, pick and poop, and otherwise clean your house as normal. No special diets or knowledge of temperatures, humidity and tank cleaning needed!

I had a rock iguana in the early 2000s,and her name was Thorn. She was a great pet and remember her name and feeding time. My sister and mom was scared to death of her because sometimes she would get out and run around the house. I guess for some people seeing a big lizard run around freely will startle a few. She loved collard and mustard greens. She was a great pet, just keep them well heated and fed.
