Nick: I don't believe in DNF's
Also Nick 1 minute later: I can't do this
it's ok to DNF if you are bleeding profusely
well stictly speaking that wasnt a race - so your DNDNF still stands... but great video. Maybe though you should have ended with a challenge for someone else to take this on
@@nicksymmonds profusely bleeding???
Smashed that Subscribe button!!!😆 Great content Nick!
I mean, you would have been signing your own DNR if you carried on after that last crash
It really hurts when you are 7'3" and you fall! I went down three times in this video. If any of the crashes made you cringe or laugh, please like this video! It will help my ego and wounds feel better 😂
Don’t worry we got you!😂😂
Don't worry nick,I've had some crashes in my xc season 😂
I love that you used m.a.a.d city in one of the crashes
Can't say you've never DNF'd anymore ;)
We got your 6 nick big brother
I have a world record for you to break: fastest mile hopping on one leg.
The current world record has been held for 6 years by Peter Nestler. His time was 18:25.
I’m sure you can beat that.
Idk if u understand how hard it is to even go 100m on one leg😂
Lmao I'm just imagining a dude with a huge drumstick of a leg on one side and a twig on the other
Give me a year
Kylie Benson really? You think we have another year?
Weak.
Evan Powers LMAO
How many former world class athletes would show themselves doing crazy thing like this? Not too many that I have ever encountered. Kudos to you Nick for showing us regular folks that even elite athletes can be humbled by some circumstances. Love you attitude about this and other crazy challenges.
Yes
You should put the vaporflys on the stilts.
Genius
Ahh yes double bounce
hhahahahahaha
LOL I'd watch that
LMFAOOOOO YES
Honestly nick is already so good he does not need them
Thank you!!
Those stilts are incredibly exhausting to wear.
As a 4:20 miler I was beat trying to run for like one minute.
Not to mention an incredible risk to injury unless you are expert.
Facts
No he need to beat the legend bolt!
True

HA!!!!
Hahahaahah

As someone born with spring stilts this is a huge inspiration to me, thanks Nick
You were _born_ with spring stilts? Lol :D
Emil yeah he worded it weird, I guess he meant he had to wear them all his life

Epic fails
I feel so bad for laughing but the second and third wipeout had me in tears, you're a trooper
15 pounds on each leg?? That's an incredibly good workout
He can run sub 3:43
I have owned a pair of stilts like these for a few years, I knew immediately this was going to end bad for Nick. It takes weeks of practice to run well without falling.
all of those people were like, " IS that the olympion Nick Symmonds, and what the heck is he doing". Edit: oh wow that’s a lot of likes
I love your optimism, "that is the one-kilometer world record on jump stilts, still got it!" Amazing video:)
These are my favorite kind of videos! So inspirational how you make running so much fun, gets me motivated every day, thank you for everything you do
Might be my favorite video😂😂 those falls were HILARIOUS!
Now I know the challenges you tall people face each day!!
Nick Symmonds exactly! it’s a long ways down from up there!
Great to see you having so much FUN! Wish more people took this approach to running/athletics in general.
Imagine Eluid Kipchogi running a marathon in those.

Also Nick: aaaaaaaaaaaand... I called it

This is gonna be another million-view video, great work, Nick!
I love the energy in nick's videos
Must be the Run Gum ;)
Appreciate you not using your face plants in the thumbnail, it made them much more unexpected and hilarious.
Dropping a like for the dedication that goes into your videos.
Love the videos Nick keep ‘em coming!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO!!! I miss your videos so much.

they are cool, but VERY dangerous!!
Nick Symmonds I bet
Loving the videos. Great inspiration considering the circumstances were in

Much respect for trying that!
Almost at 200,000 subscribers, keep it up Nick ur the man.
That looks exhausting but also exhilarating! Impressive Nick! Keep it up and you'll do it!
I’ve recently started using RunGum and wow let me just tell y’all if anyone is on the fence about it I highly recommend! I have been running every morning for the past two months and RunGum is just what I need to feel ready and energized!
very glad you like it!!!
what a sponsored feel to your comment Lmao
this is what we need right now, stay safe everybody just because things are opening up doesn’t mean it’s safe!
A ship in the harbor is safe, but that's not what ships are built for....
Nick Symmonds I’ve also seen a lot of ships wreck all over their harbor. Nothing’s safe, yet we’ve survived.
Great video nick!!!
About 35+ years and more than 100lbs. ago, I too ran the mile, in high school. I always used to think "there must be some way to put a springy, flexible blade in between the layers that made up the sole of your shoes. The idea being to give more push-off with each stride and make you faster, as well as to give you more endurance, as the shoes would be doing a lot of the work. It seems like I have heard of someone trying to do this, not long ago, but maybe I am wrong.
They definitely give a big advantage. We have school boy that competes against us and he ran a 1:44 under 17. So if your used to run with them i think they give an advantage
Those aren't designed to run efficiently like the ones Pistorius had. Probably it would better trying the kangaroo technique.
Those look so cool, probably not the best thing to wear for running the mile😂
This is a really interesting video. Great job nick 👍🏻
This has to be one of your funniest videos yet😭 It was when you started running again after the first fall and the timing of the second fall for me
I just want to break four. Maybe I should try those!!! 😂
Four bones? 😀
@@Jameswmin OMG this made me laugh thank you
7:54 is the best part
Nick you are an incredible person!!
I'm familiar with Nick's running career and he was a world class half miler/miler. He won several US National championships and had an awesome final kick to the finish line. I believe he made a US Olympic team in the 800 meters. He's the real deal!
I never had an opportunity to meet him. This video shows a side of him I never knew as I only saw him of TV in big races. It's the fact that he has such a great sense of humor that I appreciate! And he doesn't mind making a few pratfalls in public for the whole world to see.
Thanks for the great video!
PS, I DNFd twice when I pulled hamstring muscles!
Nick: We're gonna run a mile in bionic legs!
Bionic legs: I'm about to end this man's whole career.
That was a very valiant effort haha! It makes me want to try this with my partner haha 😂
Next video: Hurdling with this.
This was such a creative idea! I've always wanted to see these things in action in a more practical application.
Dude i love this video, you went down hard on that second fall xD hope your future videos go amazingly :)
Those falls looked mega painful! You definitely earned my like 👏
Would have gone even quicker if he had vapourfly on with the springs
Aaa wodeen legs
Hi nick from india i love your videos and got motivated keep going... Watched nearly 60% of you videos in just 2days
Man u did a incredible job teling us about the new technology and using them man u r hardworking

"I'm stronger too!!" Legit LOLed at that
You’re an inspiration!!! 👍🏻🙌🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I'm here writing a comment around 7:45 about how awesome these are for cross-training and then suddenly you go down face first. I didn't know if I should laugh or cringe. You got guts Nick!
FUTURE video ideas:
fastest mile running backwards: Good shot
Fastest 800 walking: Possible
Fastest Beer mile or 800: Slim chance
fastest mile in jeans: Low chance
You VS CAR 40 yard dash: depends on car
Fastest 800 or mile on treadmill: LOW, LOW, CHANCE
Your mission Nick Symmonds, should you chose to accept is to be the greatest runner in history!!!
-GOOD LUCK

This was a great video to watch!
Awesome video!! Can you do an elimination mile?? I find that race so unique and fun to watch!
When you fell it looked like the Ryan yelled "everyone do the flop"
Please be smart when considering Nick's "never dnf" mentality.
There is bravery and persistence in that mentality for sure.. But sometimes intelligence is far more important than determination. Don't risk the rest of your running career for the sake of maintaining an arbitrary goal like this.
Sometimes the best decision is to just stop. Protect your body. Live to runanother day.
I guess the moral of the story is, find the difference between "pain" and "injury". You can run through pain.. But you should never run through injury. It's just not smart.
I would say more people hurt themselves by quitting than hurt themselves by “never dnf’ing”. But yeah, I think he makes that point by dnf’ing this mile
@@bindi123pepper123 how do you mean they hurt themselves more from quitting? Do you mean that the psychological effects of quitting are worse than the physical effects of running through physical injury?
@@williamdowling7718 In some cases yes, it comes down to a matter or pride, although logically it dosent make sense, as an athlete the drive to push ones self beyond their limits can have serious repercussions but in the moment can change everything. For example I was cheated out of the 100m, and 4x2 so i trained incredibly hard everyday without any breaks. I went from running 13.32, to 11.8 within the span of a week. After that I came in 2nd place in the mens conference for 100m. However I tore my hip flexor, later I would go on to run 11.57, then 10.9 but never again, what I gained was the speed I needed fulled by anger, but I was never able to run that fast again. My pride gave me a semi-permanent injury, but looking back on it I dont think I regret it, however I wish I wouldn't have gotten so angry, because maybe I would have then trained smarter
Thank you for this. I am a varsity athlete and I have DNFed one race. I was in middle school with under .25 miles to go in XC. I pulled a muscle in my side and every step I took was jabbing pain. I was out for the next week and a half but it could of been so much more if I would’ve powered though to the finish line.
Never risk your body. There will be more races.
I haven’t laughed that hard in quite sometime. Those face plant edits... hilarious. Hope for a quick recovery Nick!
That's great Nick❤

let’s play a game. every time nick says “in the back of my mind,” take a shot
Wow, very impressive on the stilts Nick! Also, not to ever DNF in a race, even more impressive!
Hi Nick, I am a physical therapist and work with a lot of patients with prosthetic limbs. There is a huuuge energy cost for the current day prosthetics in terms of their mobility. Nothing we have current day can compare to the engineering of the human body. In terms of energy efficiency and long term loading we have the best design available. Our soft tissue structures paired with the mechanics are extremely efficient. I think Oscar did have an advantage with his running however! Awesome video btw!
I wanna see a SuperHuman do sports. So "yes" to Bionics.
I saw the insta post and I was waiting forever on this and I'm very scared to see how this ends up, ima edit this at the end of the video lmao
Edit: well uhm, at least he got the 1,000m world record 😂, I could beat nick in some kind of race lmao.
Thanks for watching!!
You are really amazing at being deadpan when you say that with your 3:56, you didn't quite get your goal of being The King of The Mile or that 90+ first lap wasn't at pace. Usually people (besides really good actors) would sound ironic or sarcastic if they would make 3:56 seem even remotely close to 3:43. Have you thought about acting? I laughed a lot during this video so thanks for doing this, man! I respect that willingness to come up with funny ideas a lot!
Love the video
8:37 lol that guy almost fell too
They do not give to much of an advantage, especially in running with actual prosthetics.
They do not increase your stride length and you can only get as much energy out of them as you put in. With a muscle you dont have that problem. Maybe in long range running you can save energy, but if the distance is shrter you give up quite a bit of feel and control in exchange for having less muscle to propel you forward.
Bionic feet while retaining most of the leg does give an advantage. The energy transmission is more efficient than a human foot. But yeah...losing more of the leg would take away the benefit. But that is only for running. There is no benefit for climbing and other activities.
@@johnchestnut5340 Still then, you get only as much energy out of it as you put in.
@@FantasKanal Maybe. Maybe it robs energy from the wearer. Just kidding. When competitions are measured in thousands of a second, even very small advantages matter.
7:46.Landing in style....😎😎😎😎
I thoroughly enjoyed those wipeouts...the agony of defeat...the thrill of victory...
Really hoped you'd pull a Lasse Viren and get the world record even though you fell
Bad example - Lasse Viren was massive blood doper his whole career.
"The bigger they are the harder they fall"
This was hilarious!! Nick rules.
