The thing with the stilts is that you use less energy to produce the same amount of push so if you did 1600 meters with then without them, you'd preform better with the stilts since they conserve so much stamina. edit: I am aware they can get up to 15 pounds but there are lighter variations that are not a stamina hinderance.
Power to weight ratio. These things are massive and heavy and they're attached far enough out to reduce the effective acceleration of his stride despite intuition suggesting that the longer reach would increase acceleration.
@@tokii2613 Not really, you are slower because you are having to learn to walk and run all over and it uses different muscle groups which aren't accustom to the new stride that hasn't had a life time of muscle memory to work off of. That and most people run flat footed, why I have no clue, but myself and many professional running run on their toes which is closer to running on the stilts so people like me have less issues getting use to and running in these. Give him a few months to a year of normal use and I'm sure he'll be able to keep up if not beat someone on foot, specially in longer runs where endurance comes into play.
His jump was actually a bit smaller on the stilts than without. He fucked up by measuring to the bottom of his feet instead of the bottom of his stilts. They produced the same amount of elevation. At 6:40. He's jumping the same height, the stilts just make him taller.
Fair enough, but I don't think most fit people would be losing stamina by 1.5 kilometres. Maybe it would make a difference if you were running 10 miles or so.

This has really inspired me to try it myself. I've been thinking for a little while to wear a costume this Halloween that features stilts, but stilts can be very uncomfortable and hard to move with. These stilts would make it so much better and cooler than normal stilts. I also do parkour, which would be fun with these. Thanks for sharing the cool things in life! @@ironicivan4928 yeah that would make more sense for these specific stilts. I was thinking more like straight wooden stilts for Mothman, these stilts would be perfect for a character like chell, though if I did that costume I would rather dress as Doug Rattman, I think he's pretty cool
It looked like the bottom of the jumping stilts were actually lower than the bottom of your feet during the high jump comparison. So in that sense, you aren’t jumping as high even if your body is higher up. Is that the case?
@@MikeShake Yes, I have looked frame by frame and can confirm that it is accurate, although it is counting how much his feet moved you may confused it with how high the bottom of the stilts went up compared to feet, but stilts are like springs, so the can can compress or stretch more than your feet, that can barely to that at all actually, so yes, stilts make you rise in the air higher.
There was a show on German TV where a guy jumped over cars with this thing. He managed to jump over 3 cars but with the 4 he couldn't do it and he got injured. He has been paralyzed since 2010
Spring stilts were always a neat idea but in order to work full efficiently they'd have to be somehow made to articulate with our ankles without putting stress on our joints.
I've been using these for 13 years, I ran the international forum years ago and have learnt over a 1,000 people to walk on them. Couple of things, firstly you sometimes put them on the wrong foot, the strip/ buckle should hang to the outside so they don't catch each other. The hoofs ( the black rubber ) give you a lot of grip on paths and roads but are smooth so give little grip on grass and sand the also ware down every quickly! The solution is to cover them with bicycle tires I have a old video somewhere but basically cut a the metal rims off them and cut a section to cover around the front and down the back of the spring. use cable tie on the front the tire should cover the front edge pull tight and use a cable ties around the tire and spring. Cutting longer means the when the tire wears down you can just cut the small section off and slide the tire (snake ) to a fresh piece. I call these snake because once you cut the metal rims off and cut across the tire it looks like a snake! One thing you didn't point out is the spring have different weight ranges and you some normally pick spring in your weight range too light and they'll just bend and will feel like walking in mud too heavy and they'll be almost impossible to bend and bounce. I also believe the heaviest rang you can buy is 180kg, although I build a pair that is 360kg and I've been able to carry two people with me ... Walking only because basically each was standing on my feet!
I am extremely interested in learning how to perform in these stilts as an avid cosplayer. There's a scarecrow character that legs shaped just like these stilts and im dying to learn how to use these
