I'm not sure what to think about Pimax prime, but the headset looks sick. Do we really need that much resolution tho?

Oh yeah, for sure. My first reaction is seeing the detail in flight sims, especially DCS. But I also work in VR so that I can have all kinds of stuff around me including spreadsheets. Zero eye strain is a huge benefit.
As for Prime, that's a neat trick to essentially "pre-authorize" you for leasing or a loan to afford the equipment. Sell it to you at cost and amortize the profit.

What we really want is 35ppd and wide FOV, but that's the VR1 and a 5090 will have it's hands full driving it well.
Larger displays make it easier to make optics that give us wider FOV and are less expensive than designing and building optics for smaller displays to give us that FOV, so the Supers can be less expensive.
Unfortunately as we found with the 55ppd XR-4 running at 35ppd, a native 35ppd headset will look sharper than a higher resolution headsets downrezzing. So until the 6090's get here the Supers may not look sharper than the Crystal does. They will have more FOV, brightness and better local dimming which will give them an edge. Also if the XR-4 ran great without Anti aliasing at 55ppd that would support their claims that we have enough power for them now. So far I haven't seen where that is the case with the XR-4. Has anyone heard differently?
So we don't need the resolution, but it comes for the ride with the larger sensor. We just won't be able to really take advantage of until the 6090 gets here.

Rokid also announced smart glasses with cameras and AR1, but also having green monochrome displays on both eyes. Price was set to 350$. So might be more interesting that the meta raybans. Depending on the software. But displays give a lot more usability than just audio.

That would be the only true missing piece for me, I only really ask to read messages real quick on my Wayfarers, maybe a maps app HUD. The AI gimmick is mostly pointless to me except for rare text translations. The selling point that has made my glasses essential is replacing my earbuds and phone camera. Especially when driving or otherwise have my hands full. The glasses are simply too convenient, EXCEPT for reading texts, then no need for the watch. Message readback interrupts conversations.
Would rarely need to dig my phone out of my pocket again when the Glasses become the interface peripheral for 90% of use cases. And I'm ok with the phone becoming mostly a compute puck and cell network signal processing antenna for the shades.

Crystal Super is very tempting at that price point. I understand why they're doing the whole Prime thing, I just wish during the presentation they just flat out said what it is. "We need to pay more staff if you want good customer support. It was either this, or raising the price of headsets. At least this way, we're giving you the choice."

I think companies like subscription type services because it gives them a more predictable income stream. Because they are actually making less by doing this, its 10% cheaper and they loose on inflation.

They said the upscaling option will be a thing. It has been applied to Crystal Light and doesn't look too bad. So people without top of the line GPUs should still be able to have a decent image quality. And with such a high resolution and pixel density even downsampled image should look great.

if you go with higher fov you will get lower ppd = lower pixel density = lover image quality
if you go with higher ppd you need to choose a lower fov.
for flight sims big fov is must for a more realistic experience.

I preordered a Pimax Super OLED with pancake lens a few months ago. After watching the Pimax update, including their take on pancake lens, I'm starting to wonder if this is ever going to be released. Time will tell I guess. After recently returning my PCL for a refund (bought from my local Amazon Store thank goodness) due to aspheric lens distortion (plus CA), and not wanting to enter the Pimax lens lottery, I'm not keen on the Supe QLED with their promise of new and improved aspheric lens.
Also, the Pimax Prime plan sounds a bit fishy, to me anyway. If users cannot afford to pay for their headsets up front, then they probably cannot afford a high end PC to run it imho. Their upcoming wireless option can only be used with the original Crystal so I don't see the point of this.

Pimax Crystal Super is nice but here's things I don't like about it:
    1. DP 1.4 instead of 2.1
    2. Still uses same design than a new weight saving design (although 815g is nice improvement)
    3. They should went for 135FOV as standard, market in need for such a thing
    4. Passthrough
The price to be honest is great considering what you get, so no complaints there, now all we need is that it lives up to expectations

Its interesting that there has been no mention about passthrough for the Super. While they did at least plan to release it for the Crystal. Maybe there is simply not enough USB bandwidth after that tracking cameras for passthrough cameras. Or it is just too big of a software development hurdle.

@@TRX25EX Once its available you most likely can choose on purchase, but it think it might be a slight compromise in overall image quality. That the 57PPD is the optimal, and after that its pushing it. Meaning probably more CA, less overlap etc.

Too man lies coming from Pimax. They come out with new models of headsets faster than they can keep up with the repairs of their old ones that they’ve already sold that are still in warranty. They also never keep their promises from older models like the crystal. They just move onto another headset and never keep their promises. (Widefield of view lenses) paid for a year and a half ago and still have not heard or seen anything about them. It’s like they just got forgotten into the abyss like their other lies. But they got my money. I’m still waiting.
Everything goes to a back burner and their tech-support is horrible. Talk about kicking the can down the road. I’m tired of it. I was really excited for Pimax years ago and they’ve done a great job getting my money, but they’ve done a terrible job taking care of me as a customer. Buyer beware, they lie and they do not keep their ADVERTISED promises. Your headset won’t last.
