    WHAT IS A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A RESCUES SWIMMER LIKE? AIRR is a challenging and rewarding career in the US Navy. Many people attempt this search and rescue school but find out that helicopter rescue is not for them. It's more than just saving lives and our motto so others may live. It's about challenging yourself weather that be through flying, ground jobs, writing a flight schedule, and working with other units.

    I had 2 saves. Was glad I did it, but I decided not to pursue rescue and fire fighting once I was out. The thing that turned me off of it was the attempted suicide of a navy dependent visiting a ship in Alameda NAS. It was hard to hit a woman to get her managed. I was a fresh civilian at the time taking someone else to see her husband on the boat since I had a car. I never wanted to be in that position again. Too much drama for me. She got hauled off to the mental ward.
    I never thought about it until my wife was cleaning my desk and looked at my DD-214 and asked about it.

    99.9% of the time in a fleet squadron...vs. station SAR...Rescue swimmer days are pretty much the same now as 20-years ago. Collateral duties and the flight schedule. We used to PT/swim 4-days per week in the AM if not otherwise scheduled for something else. What isn’t clear to many, being a rescue swimmer is just an additional skill-set that you must remain proficient in...Not to diminish anything about being a swimmer, it’s relatively minor job compared to your day-to-day work...And, that can be frankly a lot of busy work and BS. That’s just the nature of the military.

    Jeffrey I have three questions for you. One- what is the difference to being assigned to land versus vessel? Second- Can you take prescription meds once in. Third-Living in the barracks can you eat healthy and clean with the food provided for you?

    • @TheRescueSwimmer

    • @TheRescueSwimmer
      @TheRescueSwimmer  4 роки тому

      As for the other two questions, it all depends on the mediations. When you live in the barracks you can eat healthy because the galley has all the food for you. You just have to eat the right stuff in the proper amount.
