I see the blinding effect on a perp as a benefit,I only use the weaponlight when I am intending to point my weapon at someone/ shoot, I use a handheld to search and identify,If I have my weaponlight on I am preparing to fire/issuing commands to STOP OR I WILL SHOOT! .They will know where I am regardless,if they are unable to look at me/aim a weapon effectively it is a bonus .If I can intimidate them into surrender with the light and laser even better.
As 22 years in the Navy with many night watches, during that time, any excessively bright light (Flash Mode) will effect your night vision to re-adjust back to your night sights in a darken evironment. That is physical, there is no dispute in that fact. You must train yourself how you will use your eyes with the amount of Lumins you choose to run. Test yourself how quickly you regain your sight, esp with tridium sights.
mozzberg I used to be.. I found out that many of them don’t last and had to be sent back. Now I sold them and only use Surefire, elzetta, malkoff. Is your experience the same?
You should definitely be using your support thumb to manipulate the switch. Your trigger finger has one job period. Even if it's more comfortable than your support thumb, train until it's not.
I had a pl2 for a few years and it was light/medium use at best. It started to not turn on and have other issues due to the module inside going bad(what olight said). I returned it and received a defective replacement pl2 that didn't turn on consistently and was dimmer than my pl1-2. It also had a severely loose mount so it barely held onto a pistol. I returned that replacement and was sent a pl-pro. I can only assume it was one sent in for repair as I can't get it to turn on, packaged it up and noticed it flashing in the corner in the shipping envelope and box with no one within 20 ft. I am waiting to hear back from olight to get a third replacement sent out🤣 But now I plan on replacing all the olights I own. If it fails under my minimal use and I can't trust I'll get a working replacement....... I can't trust it for HD or EDC anymore. Sucks as I have a lot of their products but they will be phased out for more reliable and proven products. Sucks as I love their side activation pads 🤦
Just wanna say THANK YOU!!! Been trying to figure out how to stop the wobble with this light for a year straight. Took like 5 mins after watching this and its GONE. so once again thank you.
I have a PL2 and the TLR-1 HL. The TLR is on my KSG and the PL2 is on my HK USP 45. Happy with both lights. My PL2 can be pushed from behind or on the side to activate. It's even tactile with my gloves on. Good review with comparisons as well.
we have PL-Mini Desert Tan in Flash Sale this Friday, 11th,May at 1:00-3:00PM EDT time. it is perfect combination to the pistol, don't miss the flash sale.
I have the same s1r. It is the only flash light I need. I went down to South Africa out in the safari and it was more than enough light. I left the big olight light in my cabin. I feel like they created the perfect light. The only way to make it better is if it could recharge your phone.
You may be over tightening the streamlight screw. I have carried one for 8 hours a day for about 20 years in tactical environment . Hand tight is all you need and it should be plenty secure. Mine has never come off by accident.
They only recommend hand tightening the screw on the Streamlight. My department’s sales representative passed this information along after several officers managed to damage the lights.
On the issue of pieces loosening and failing. If it's a fixable of issue that is fixed after some loctite. Then rock n roll. But if it's a continuous thing then a no go. I got no problem tinkering to fix since I used to be a mechanic but I can see how itll be problem for some
If u know how to use higher lumen lights indoors, high lumens (within reason) are not a problem. Hint...Stand in your pitch black room and turn on your high lumen light. Do you notice how it lights up the whole room no matter where it is pointed? U can tone down high lumens but u cannot turn it up...
I love that light I bought 2 and they are hands down best pistol light and for the money it get even better streamlight would be next choice than surefire after that mod light and if I had to my last choice would be inforce but really don't think there even in the game my inforce is like 200 lumens absolutely freaking ridiculous ill never buy another inforce sucks .
Sage Dynamics actually tested this light and says the 1200 lumens actually doesn't last as long due to the immense heat and battery consumption. I believe it will switch down to I think 600 once it overheats or is about to drain the battery, which is about 2 minutes. ua-cam.com/video/yOCKKVgzBhQ/v-deo.html
As the producers tech specifications say: "1200lumens has some requirement to the battery discharge performance. The test is based on the Olight CR123A battery. The maximum output is limited to 600 lumens when the battery resistance is too large or the voltage is reduced. Product set like this: 1200lumens bright for 60seconds, then reduce to 600lumens in 30 seconds. When reach to 600lumens, it can be restarted again 1200 lumens by turn on through the tailcap. It will be able to run the 1200lumens after use for more than 90seconds."
A home defense engagement will be over in less than 30 seconds. I don't think there's enough time to paint the target move and paint again. Seems like that's more tacticool thinking. That being said that's a crazy amount of light, hopefully, there are no mirrors when using it.
I've always found in my personal opinion the brighter lumens the better. In door self defense situations, yeah you don't want to blind yourself on a reflection but in my experiences its much less of a problem for me than taking that extra split second trying to identify a target with less lumens. To each there own. Just my opinion.
May I suggest in indoor situations where you are using the light on and off teacher self to close one of your eyes and open it when the light is turned off you will only be night blind in one eye, pirates use that same technique with her eyepatch, everyone thinks that pirates we’re just blind in one eye they were merely preventing night blindness.
On a side note, you mentioned that you leave the S2R plugged in all the time in your car. That actually isn't good for the battery and it could overheat and destroy the light. You should use the battery and charge it when it dies.
This was true back in the day when rechargeable batteries were NiCD. Nowadays, with Li-ion batteries using them "until they die" shortens their lifetime. Also Li-ion battery chargers stop charging when batteries are full so overheating is not an issue.
You’re wrong. Letting it discharge all the way and recharge actually shortens the battery life. These flashlights have chips in place that prevent overcharging
Thank you for the awesome video. Its exactly what I needed to see. Because of the high lums. Im not getting this one. Since it will be used primarily for home use. Can you recommend another budget friendly light under $100. "Merry Christmas"
Stream light TLR-1 HL for outdoors. $109 on Amazon. www.amazon.com/Streamlight-Weapon-Tactical-Flashlight-Lumens/dp/B00B8Q31UQ TLR-1S for indoors (less lumens) www.amazon.com/Streamlight-69210-Flashlight-Function-Locating/dp/B0037CJCMK TLR-3 for compact carry. www.amazon.com/Streamlight-69220-Mounted-Tactical-Locating/dp/B001T7GZQQ I’ve used several budget lights over the years. Most crap out (inforce) or have bad ergonomics (like this olight). Now I have stream lights on all of my guns: rifles, shotguns and pistols.
I’m so glad someone has said that the lumens race has gone too far (for indoors). 300-600 is plenty and maybe too much in confined spaces. I’d like to see if they will make a lower power setting.
Seems to me in the real world no one is going to be dragging their light out of their holster over the life of the light nearly as often as even one class would require. I have one of these, shot with it plenty, easy controls, easy mounting, always turns on with batteries and I can switch bw a glock and a rifle in seconds if I've only got one light. I'm not LE or in the service. While a Surefire or Cloud Defense is what I'd buy if I had unlimited $, Olight is more than good enough for my home security needs and, if I had extra batteries, I would trust for brief disaster related periods of possible civil unrest.
Hi, the belt clips for the holster where can I purchase those? Looking into the Olight PL1 and 2 series. I love my Surefire lights but damn they are expensive. Nice video, thanks~
Idk why people like the tlr1 I hate those switches and the lumens suck. I have the pl2 and I love the buttons and it’s blinding. And no it’s not to much for home defense I’ve set alarms for 3 days at midnight and instantly grabbed the light on my g17 and did a walk through of the house and it’s not hurting my eyes or anything like a lot of idiots who don’t own one will like to say
I'll stick with my streamlight at five hundred lumens. Because for a defensive handgun and the pratical distance I'll be useing it. And I have a streamlight protac HLX 1000 lumens light and laser combo on my ar9 and ar15 carbines. And for the uses I'll needf for my defensive handgun. And for a majority of a defensive handgun 25 to 50 yards. And my protac HLX rifle lights work perfectly for my needs. And since a majority of law enforcement incidents happen out to only 50 or 60 yards routinely for the longest distance during a armed incident. And any further than that, your haveing a really bad shift. And a ar 15 or ar10 is what you need. And to be honest at 50 to sixty yards I'm reaching for my ar9. Because a ar9 carbine will have three points of contact and a longer site radius, which means greater accuracy. And I'm a mp5 fanboy myself, and before diehard I was impressed and formed a likening and total respect for it. And as a retired federal officer I still have a strong respect for the wespon. But a ar9 carbine gives me a longer site radius and both have three points of contact and both can mount a red dot scope and both can't mount a stronger weapons mounted light. And precision is a absolute necessity in a defensive weapon as is threat assessment weapon. And there's a old saying that only a fool knowingly carries a handgun to a gunfight. And even a pistol caliber weapon will give better preformance than a handgun of the same caliber. And the only advantage of a handgun is it's ability to be carried concealed. And both weapons have their strengths and weaknesses. But in the end a pistol caliber carbine will be more effective and efficient than a handgun especially out to. 50 yards. But training is the key to bring able to use any firearm successfully and efficiently, including wespons mounted lights. And only by training to use both effectively and property to avoid mistakes in their use that can cause failures that can have unintentionally catastrophic failures for untrained or poorly trained individuals. And training is the key to avoid such failures and useing the right equipment.
yes, it is durable and stable, we have flash sale on 11th,May 1:00-3:00PM EDT time for PL MINI Desert Tan, 2018 MADE EVER, don't miss the flash sale. www.olightstore.com/olight-pl-mini-desert-tan
Maybe I missed it but do holsters designed for the tlr work for the olight? Have some higher dollar holsters and don't want to have to buy new holsters if I upgrade my light
At the Olight website, in product's FAQ there is an info from one user: "Question from Jo - 19/12/2017: - Not a question, just a comment; I just got the Pl-2 and I have a Safariland ALS TLR compatible holster for a glock 17 and the Pl-2 does fit in the holster and lock in place, it does however have a little wiggle to it since the TLR is slightly larger."
Think this would be a decent light for an SKS with a ATI Stock? Do lots of solo camping and would like a decent light on my rifle. I've been looking at these for awhile but haven't decided yet.
Rylan Dettling I think so. It’s very bright, but it casts a fairly wide spot-more pistol specific. I guess it depends on whether you want it to perform for hunting, or defense.
Some Kydex holsters are such a rip off. Considering the hardware to make the entire holster and the time to create it. I can't see if costing a holster maker more than $20. Yes the machine that molds the Kydex is probably $500 or more. But for $70 I would rather get a decent Bianchi Leather Holster, which happens to polish and smooth out the inside of the leather holster. But that's me. Or a Galco Lite Shoulder holster which is all suede. I have some Kydex, but I like leather much better. That's All. Also, if for people who like Shooting Gloves, get Flight Gloves, that have Leather palm grips (thin) and the rest of the material is Nomex, which is flash Fire Protectant. These types of gloves are thin enough but still durable with the leather palm, fingers (inside the entire hand) you get an excellent grip on a pistol or rifle grip. Just a thought. I get mine on Amazon from $17 to $30. Read the reviews though to ascertain if they're decently made and true to size.
Late to the game here, but you are pressing the switch wrong. Do not press straight forward on the button. You need to press the side facing button sideways, more like an Inforce light. If you're trigger finger isn't long enough or strong enough to press sideways, use your support hand (especially since your trigger finger should be left available to send rounds down range if needed.
Asheville Mountain Yeah, just 5+ years working construction full time to pay my way through college full time, at the same time. Basically never worked at all.
M MMM I was up late so I could have bought one but they gave me too much time to think about it and stare at the huge pile of crap that I already bought and never have time to use. LOL
Michael H your tripping you probly don’t own either lights. I own the pl2 (1200 lumen) I set alarms at midnight to wake up and grab my light and do a walk through and it doesn’t nothing to my vision because I’m not aiming it in mirrors and hitting my self with it.
William Morrison Streamlight service is very inconvenient to use. You have to take it in to an authorized service center (45 min away for me) instead of mailing it in, then wait weeks, then go back and pick it up. I’ve done it. Would rather just replace it myself.
Well the bad products part I can agree, I’ve owned about 12 Olights at one point and about 5 had to go back for service. I would not trust one with my life as my only limitation device. Now I cannot complain about their service, all my lights that were sent in were worked on or replaced in rapid pace. But the quality got me to sell them and use Surefire, Elzetta or Malkoff. The later two brands I trust 100% with my life.
Bob johnson I’m a dumbass ? You may have owned more weapons lights than me but I doubt it. I’ve shot a ton of rounds and I find this light is crap. Maybe your a DUMBASS?
I see the blinding effect on a perp as a benefit,I only use the weaponlight when I am intending to point my weapon at someone/ shoot, I use a handheld to search and identify,If I have my weaponlight on I am preparing to fire/issuing commands to STOP OR I WILL SHOOT! .They will know where I am regardless,if they are unable to look at me/aim a weapon effectively it is a bonus .If I can intimidate them into surrender with the light and laser even better.
I like to use my weak hand thumb to operate the light. Less mistake of using the wrong control. Right hand fire, left hand light.
never had any problem being blinded by a reflecting white wall, several trainers also disagree with your statement on that!
daniel crowe exactly!!
He also said you don't want to give your position away. Pretty sure any flashlight will do that to lol
As 22 years in the Navy with many night watches, during that time, any excessively bright light (Flash Mode) will effect your night vision to re-adjust back to your night sights in a darken evironment. ShooterMedic exactly
I'm waist deep in O-Light products.
mozzberg I used to be.. I found out that many of them don’t last and had to be sent back. Now I sold them and only use Surefire, elzetta, malkoff. Is your experience the same?
I'm balls deep in surefire lights and its expensive :o(
It's those darned email flash sales of theirs
Me too, my friend haha

hows it holding up?
Nice. I need to get a good light for my pistols. I had an older model but sold it with one of my guns. Wanted to upgrade to newer technology.
we have PL-Mini Desert Tan in Flash Sale this Friday, 11th,May at 1:00-3:00PM EDT time. it is perfect combination to the pistol, don't miss the flash sale.

Aaron at Sage Dynamics has a great review of this light. I still love my Surefire X300 and Streamlight TLR1 HL.

thanks Johnny for choosing Olight
I wish the switches were longer so they were easier to reach like all competitors are. If they can extend controls this would be a great deal.
You may be over tightening the streamlight screw. I have carried one for 8 hours a day for about 20 years in tactical environment . Hand tight is all you need and it should be plenty secure. Mine has never come off by accident.
puma51921 Good to know. Thanks for the input.

Thank you for pronouncing ambidextrous correctly. Most people say ambidextious or ambidenxtrias.
Yes, Olight Pl-2 will have a 40% off from 7-9 p.m EST - April 13th,

Thanks for the review! It’ll be interesting to see how the olight fairs over time. Until then I’ll stick with my stream lights.
Got one yesterday on their website. They had a 40% off sale. Got it for $59 shipped

tymccutchen I haven’t fully tested the PL-mini yet, but it’s less expensive, not as blinding, smaller, and rechargeable. I like it a lot so far.

Hogh308 streamlight sucks, only 100 shitty ass lumens
I’m so glad someone has said that the lumens race has gone too far (for indoors). 300-600 is plenty and maybe too much in confined spaces. I’d like to see if they will make a lower power setting.
They also make a smaller weapon light that is 400 lumen. It would be nice though if this one being reviewed could be set to a lower setting.
OldPackMule if you buy the normal cr123 batteries that are 650 amh this light will not get the 1200 lumens maybe 800 or 600lumans
SureFire will be putting out a new pistol light soon with the IntelliBeam technology. According to my department’s sales representative.
I think the Olight Valkyrie is for outdoor use and the mini for indoor cleared rooms or bad guy in your house type of scenario
Which way did the pin come out on the latch?
Very helpful upload, Thank you
Seems to me in the real world no one is going to be dragging their light out of their holster over the life of the light nearly as often as even one class would require.

Thanks for the video, I like the holster can you provide the link...
I think I'd choose the Tlr-1 over this but I'd take the PL mini 2 over the tlr-7

Will those olight fit in holsters that were built for x300?
I don't think so.
I have PL-2 over a year and I can't find a holster
what damn rounds of witch caliber did you fire at the 4:40ish mark? they were so slow i could see them flying through the air.
Will that light fit any of the Safariland als holsters
Good question.
NO

Thanks!
Who made your holster?
Get the pl 2 mini it’s only 400 lumens and it’s great.
do you think that this would be as durable and reliable as an Olight striker or a powertac E5 or E9?

Animal defense mostly. Really getting sick of using electrical tape and my streamlight protact lol. Thanks for the reply!
Last Boy Scout is one of the few Guntubers I could see hanging out with. 0% douche-baggie-ness
I’m having the same problem with light the shifting in the mounting thing ,, I can’t punch the pin out !! What side do I need to hit the pin from ?
I can not remember off the top of my head. If it's not coming out, maybe put it in a vise with padding and try the other direction.
thank you man !!! i did it .. its perfect now .
Rock on!
Why you have light on when shooting during daylight?
You don't normally take it on and off.
Thus far, I'm impressed!
Should have done the drop test and THEN the water test ;)
Late to the game here, but you are pressing the switch wrong. Do not press straight forward on the button. You need to press the side facing button sideways, more like an Inforce light. If you're trigger finger isn't long enough or strong enough to press sideways, use your support hand (especially since your trigger finger should be left available to send rounds down range if needed.
Corbin Huber it has audible forward press or side press read the maunual
Training will get you more than the manual. I can understand why you’re having difficulties with the side press.
It doesn’t blind u unless ur on the wrong side of it... that’s the point
The olight mini looks good. Id get that one if it took batteries.
tymccutchen check out the O light site, I just got the O light mini Baton that uses the RCR123 with the micro USB port in the battery.
S1 mini is with a built in 650mAH 3.6V RCR123A battery you can charge it with Micro-USB, more details, you can add me via FB
All the lumens !
Careful not to overcharge the one in your car! You definitely want to totally drain the battery now and then too.
Lithium batteries do not get a memory, and the light is protected so......
@@highspeed9518 mmmmk 👌🏻

The Last Boy Scout sure hasn't done much working with his hands in his life... softy hands...
Asheville Mountain Yeah, just 5+ years working construction full time to pay my way through college full time, at the same time. Basically never worked at all.
Flash sale on April 13th at Olight on these... $60!
Did you wind up getting one? The whole site took a huge dump for about 5 hours.
M MMM I was up late so I could have bought one but they gave me too much time to think about it and stare at the huge pile of crap that I already bought and never have time to use. LOL
Yeah, they dropped the ball big time with that debacle. I think a lot of people found themselves in the same situation as you.
I still think these are a great option... Especially at that price. I was gonna try it as a TLR-1 HL replacement on one of my ARs.
we have PL-MINI Desert Tan in Flash sale this Friday, 11th,May at 1:00-3:00PM EDT time, it is 2018 MADE EVER, don't miss the flash sale.
I don't own a gun and wouldn't mind owning one.😀
Tlr1 kills the olight all day
Self defense? I just want this for airsoft!
f olight always go with streamlight

1200 and 350 lumens are both going to ruin your night vision. C-mon.
Michael H your tripping you probly don’t own either lights. I own the pl2 (1200 lumen) I set alarms at midnight to wake up and grab my light and do a walk through and it doesn’t nothing to my vision because I’m not aiming it in mirrors and hitting my self with it.
To the title of this video. “That’s what she said”
1200 lumens too bright. That's some serious derp.
Junk and bad customer service. Get a TLR-1 HL
The later two brands I trust 100% with my life.
digital1911 wrong sir just had bad luck with them and Inforce.
no its not junk!!!! it looks like a nice weapon light, why do you make a dumbass comment like that?
Bob johnson I’m a dumbass ? You may have owned more weapons lights than me but I doubt it. I’ve shot a ton of rounds and I find this light is crap. Maybe your a DUMBASS?
