My mother was born in the village of Sandwick on Lewis. As an adult she moved to the mainland to help with the war effort. As a schoolboy I spent my summers on Lewis living with my grannie and aunts. It is very close to my heart. I know what you mean about the Butt of Lewis being windy. It’s wild but beautiful.
Sadly the plans are to completely ruin the island. The council along with the money men are pushing for another windfarm just 3 miles off the west coast. 66 turbines 340 m high 😢
Luskentyre beach! Wow...been there in the driving rain with dark ominous skies and a fierce wind and it was still beautiful! Nice wee montage there! Enjoyed that with my brekkie this morning. Cheers Paul
You missed out Harris tweed!! Just found you guys so will be binge watching to catch up now 😉 The Hebrides are on my bucket list, fell in love with them over 30 years ago reading the Lillian Beckwith books, I must read them again!
Hey guys! I used to live in Glasgow and before the pandemic happened I wanted to travel to Lewis and Harris. Sadly I had to postpone it, but now I’ve set my mind to do it this April. Would appreciate any more tips and suggestions! Your video was very inspiring, Cheers!
Hey Roy! That was the same with us actually - was originally booked to go up in May 2020, which obviously got cancelled. I hope your April trip goes well! I guess in terms of tips just plan out your itinerary and try and group together things that are close to each other. Also, I’m not sure how busy it will be in April, but we found it very quite difficult to get evening dinner reservations, so look to book them in advance. Oh, and almost everything it closed on a Sunday! All the best, Douglas.
Been to Rubha Robhanais (Butt of Lewis). Sat there for five hours in 'shirt sleeves'. See forty miles ; beaustiful clear cool Hebridean light, on a bright sunny day. No pub/bar/cafe, just a car park. Also Abhain Dearg ( Red River) distillery. . Super, Smashin', Great!!!! Mar sin leat/
Hi Sandra. Can you please send us an email at scottishhighlandhikers@gmail.com with some more details on how/where you’d like to use the video? Thanks.
Wonderful I’m in isle of skye 4 days armadale. Went to POOLS- glen and today shore rock 🪨 hunting and castle 🏰 garden walks!! Must see the wood craft boat in armadale museum and the rare trees from sequoia. Monkey 🙊 puzzle 🧩 at #armadale ferry ⛴️ to Lewis in morning 15 souls of #celticshamaans
The best thing to do on this beautiful island is birding. Never visited any "must-see-places" in my life. So boring to gather with all the other tourists, that are everything else but creative.
Im going to Lewis and Harris in September. Im not an avid hiker so id like to know how treacherous the paths are on that island? Are there paved paths and easy to access walks? What do you think the weather is like in September? Also, we dont drive, what is the public transport like? Thanks in advance!
Hi there! I would recommend checking out the Walk Highlands website to see the various hikes (www.walkhighlands.co.uk/outer-hebrides/) - it has detailed route descriptions and photos, so you should get a good idea. Weather at any of time of year in Lewis & Harris is impossible to predict, I’m afraid. It’ll never really get too cold or too warm, but you’ll likely want to be prepared for rain. We were extremely fortunate to have such good weather when we went - it’s certainly not normal! There’s a decent bus network on the island, which should get you to most of the places you’d want to visit. Just make sure to check the timetables in advance, as services can be infrequent. Hope this helps 😃
Absolute stunning and informative.
I'm always amazed at the productions of these videos.
Thank you, guys.
Thanks Salamanco, we really appreciate that 😄
I just moved here, so thank you!!
You’re welcome, I hope you enjoy your new home!
You were so lucky with the weather
We certainly were! Couldn’t believe our luck 😄

Thanks for sharing Frank 😊 It’s a beautiful place and we hope to return one day.

I am so lucky to have had a hiking trip there 20 years ago. I loved every second of it.
Awesome, glad to hear it Peter 😃

I'm there now, I want to see blackhouse village I am surprised you didn't go.
We only had a short amount of time so couldn’t see everything. It looks interesting though - I hope you enjoy it 😃
@@HighlandHikers thankyou, weather is awful but still going today !
Fantastic weather and great scenery
It sure was! Can’t believe how lucky we were 😄
I'm from Germany but I think Lewis and Harris is the one of the best islands of the UK I think it's so underrated how good it is😔😔
Thanks Jackson - we loved it as well 😃
Thank god for this, otherwise it would become to busy

Very nice 😃
Hi guys, please can we use your video to highlight the area that they’re going to destroy with a huge windfarm

We quite enjoyed visiting these sites, but of course everyone enjoys different things. Each to their own 😃

its a shame that people like you tend to poison such an interesting video with alien noise
