I’m a structural engineer student from Mongolia. I loved all of your videos. Thank you so much.
You're welcome!
Im one of the earliest viewers of your channel, I'm glad your channel grew now!
Thanks for all your support! I really appreciate it!
Hey nice vid man. Can you please make a video on some of college projects that a structural engineering student can take up.
Planning to do some small project videos in the future.
@@MatPicardal please design a real wood house , please . a mini series or mini tutorial , please.
Is anyone use forte web for Design
Timber Construction Manual (TCM) is a really good book too.
Thanks for the suggestion! I'll look into that one.
Hey Mat! I am a structural engineering student in Canada! I know that our code books are different but can the other books be used to learn about code design? Or should i find equivalent material written for Canada? Also loving your content!
Hi Fujiwara, I'm not too familiar with the Canadian codes, but I'm sure the the codes all have similar intent. If you find good material for the Canadian codes, let me know, I'd like to know also.
hello man are you the student of University of Northern British Columbia, and you study Master of Engineering Integrated Wood Design? I am planning to study this course too. I am wondering how is this course job prospects?
I have project from Canada but need ref.dwg .
can you make a video about structural engineering vs construction engineering please
Hi Mat ,I really appreciate your efforts in making these videos... Could you please suggest me any books related to analysis and design of concrete shells...👍👍
Sorry Pyare, don't know any off the top of my head, too specialized of a topic for me.
Hey Mat... you saved my day...Thanks for recommendation..
Mat do you know any book for steel framming (cold formed) ? thanks
yes please
I don't have one off the top of my head. I think all my resources I've had to find articles/resources online.
wow!! just found your channel... that's great!! Do you have some suggestion for wood structures calculations for boats? I'm planning to build a catamaran made of wood.....
Thanks RF! Sorry, I haven't done any wood boat calculations :(
Hey Mat!been following your videos anf much appreciate the good work! im currently working with wood and steel based residential projects a lot and i really want to expand my career and get on more prestigious projects that cud expand my skillset. what do you think my next move should be?
Do you recommend the other Code Masters? (i.e. Seismic Design (Wind Design Overview, Allowable Stress Design for Masonry, etc.)
They are nice if you are beginning as they simplify the codes a lot. They obviously become less useful once you know how to design already.
Hey start a course like reinforced concrete design etc etc just start to teach them.
I'll pay
@@saimtime good
I'm planning on making some design videos focused on practicality and real world design and not just theory.
@@MatPicardal thanks Mat
Mat Picardal I think one way you could do this and get paid is by using skill share. I have heard of a lot of people using it, I don’t myself but it may be something to look into before throwing it up on UA-cam?
Thanks Mat..from India
You're welcome!
Excellent video and of course, excellent books!!!!!
Thanks Saul!
Breyer book is fantastic.
Agreed!
Hey man, hope you’re well. I’ve been watching your videos and it’s really helpful, than you. I wondered if you have any experience with lvl especially as columns in a wooden column beam structure. Where would I be able to find an lvl column?
Thank you so much for the recommendations.
hi Mat, could you please recommend a retrofitting book for calculating carbon fiber wrap reinforcement or any retrofit techniques?
Sorry, don't know of any off the top of my head. Might need to do some research.
Hi Mat,
Thank you for this unique information. I am trying to learn wooden structural design and your video helps a lot. I can’t find you in LinkedIn! I wonder if I can have more conversation with you?
Hey mat try to start teaching like prestressed and reinforced concrete design
Look up dirk bondy, hes got videos on here
yeah mat Picardal many thanks, (pls) Could you help me with some design ligth gauge metal stud structures. Continuing until today.
Hi Mat, am structural engineering student from Bosnia and Herzegovina getting my Masters, l must say that your videos are very helpful, information is everything in our profession and having right books and tools is important. l hope that in the future you will able to find time to talk about BIM and your thoughts about it, where BIM is going and how viable career option is it. Thank you very much.
Thanks for the suggestion Mario, that's a big topic in the industry right now and there are definitely some interesting views!
Mario, as a young engineer you should know BIM. Some Firm work exclusive in CAD, some mix it up between CAD and BIM software, and others are exclusively in BIM. Most big project are design by architect in BIM today. Structural Engineers need to know how to use BIM software to study the model to work out structure and determine conflicts
You rock! Thanks
You got it!
What do you think about mass timber construction?
It's becoming more of a thing, especially in the west coast, USA.
Why did you get into structural eng? Im struggling to choose major right now
Here's a video I made on that: ua-cam.com/video/SVpBjng32r4/v-deo.html
Cause I can see what I am designing....started in Geotech....dirt is boring and no cares unless it’s a problem. Lol.
Why all books are looking brand new??
This is a great video
Wohh🤔bro you're awesome
Can you tell us how you organise your readings please? Because i'd like to know which one to get first. I mean, i'll get the books you advised later on, but should i read them on need or if i should have a program, how can we organise the reading schedule or...idk? Please
I would recommend the order he present them in. Design of Wood structure references the NDS and should be on hand when studying this book.
thanks a lot . sir
Your videos help me out a lot because my boss isn’t the best teacher.
Thanks, glad I can help!
Mat Picardal I’m actually thinking about changing my job title to structural project manager since I started watching your videos lol. My title right now is engineering assistant.
we should conserve trees..✌🏻
I do too read books yeah me!!
