    I wanted to work for a gc as a super in infrastructure. Fortunately/unfortunately I studied civil engineering. Structural analysis was fun once I learned it but I unfortunately feel like most of my college experience was a wasted endeavor for what I needed in my career. It was good though for learning how to think and problem solve.

    I used to do structural engineering in my country (Nicaragua) and usually put a lot of effort into the details having drafters to help me expedite the projects, and then I came to US and found out how poor the structural plans are here, such a lack of passion I have seen so far this last year...

    How long do engineers do all those things for a certain project?

    • @BEngHielscher
      @BEngHielscher  Рік тому +2

      It really depends on the size of the project. For a big multi-storey building it could be months and for a residential house it could be a week :)

    • @BEngHielscher
      @BEngHielscher  Рік тому +1

      Sometimes it’s just one and sometimes its multiple. As projects go through different stages of the design they stop and start a bit and so that no time is wasted you often can work on a other projects to fill that time.

    Good explanation. I would also pick up the design contribution of connections by the fabricator , specialist contractors for specialist areas and the temporary works specialist. I would also reflect the importance of multi-d coordination, risk and assumption management and integration. I have been doing this for 43 years since by masters and retiring this year. Love this work, I would do it all again if I could.

    Hey Beng, I just found your videos and are really incredible. They helped me so much, so THANK YOU. I wanted to ask you one thing, do you know if companies have more preference for engineers than capable architects? Im just finishing architecture and i really liked structures subjects but im worried that for this kind of jobs they would choose an engineering firstly.

      @BEngHielscher  Рік тому

      My pleasure, I’m glad you are enjoying my videos! I’m not sure if this is the same where you live but in Australia only people with engineering degrees work as engineers. Architecture degrees in Australia cover completely different content and would not prepare you to work in structural engineering. Perhaps this is different where you live or you could complete a masters in engineering?

While you are looking, work on some personal projects, keep doing your study and try and expand your skills. Perhaps you could learn how a new software works. Hope this helps :)

      Welcome! I would suggest contacting small structural engineering companies in your area. This is where you will get the most exposure and experience. For the programs you should start learning, I would suggest you find out what’s popular locally. The easiest way to do this is to search for structural engineering jobs on LinkedIn and look in the skills section of the job description and see what programs they are wanting applicants to know. Hope this helps :)
