Hi Brendan, hope you are doing well I am using Opensees to analyze bridge structures for my PhD program and even if at first I was a little bit intimidated by the fact that it is essentially a command line software, I can confirm that it is probably the most versatile structural analysis software available. Also, considering that the community provides cool updates to the element library and that you can script your costum elements by yourself (if you want/need to do it) I think Opensees is a fundamental tool for both research and engineering practice. As a final word, good job as usual, really enjoyed this video
Hi Tonio, long time no see. Thanks for the long term support. I think engineers need to get more familiar with this type of software. It is every powerful and free to boot.
@@BrendanHasty Yeah, I've been super busy in the last months because of both the PhD program and the abilitation exam (basically in Italy we have to pass this exam after the degree if we want to be "real" engineers). Good to see that your channel keeps growing (and the quality of the content as well)
Hi Brendan. Thank you for your another banger video. Although I'm working in another country, you can't guess how much you're helpful to a fresh structural engineer.
Probability based design code such as Euro Code is the code used in Wind turbine design. When a machinery becomes mega size, the structure design code is needed to your design.
I've been using mechanicalc recently. I've used skyciv before and I think mechanicalc has many more tools than skyciv imho, including all the same packages that skyciv has, all included in the basic price.
The real question is. Brendan. If you had to start a consulting agency from scratch which software package would allow you to tender for the highest volume of work, and potentially win those said tenders and deliver high quality analysis to the australian public at a timely rate. -Isaac
Hi Brendan, great video as always. Do structural engineers design the foundation of the buildings in your country? Could you please make a video on efficient foundation design and tools related to it?
@@BrendanHasty hey, what do you reckon a design engineer leaving his design job in his home country to become a inspector in Australia , is it the right way to enter the job market ?
Hey Brandon Great video and i would throw a software in the ring, Cadre Analytic Pro. While it is not free it is very affordable, user friendly and does not restrict the number of nodes or elements like the big boys. Also if you get the whole suite it covers geodesic domes cable structures and hydraulic systems. I am not associated with them nor paid but i do love their program.

This is one of the most important topics in the current state of Structural Engineering. Congrats on the video.
Hi, sometimes people just stick to their own ways, we should always be looking for new tool in improving our engineering.

Thanks for the software analysis Brendan. They are so much programs out there but I guess it's what works best for persons.
Agree so many choices it is really what works best for you

Thanks Brendan for much needed video. As you said the software are getting expensive, hence very limited licenses in the office.
Great sharing, Brendan!
Thanks for the continued support
1:18 Hey! I'm in this video! Thanks for including my work @BrendanHasty.
It is a great video showing the power of Opensees
Info shared would serve a Great purpose to Structure Engineers community, keep it up.
Glad that you found my content helpful to all structural engineers. Hope to keep up providing value.
The first one to hit a comment today. Thanks Brandan

Thanks for share Brendan.
Greetings from Dominican Republic.
Thanks for the support, it helps so much.
Sir i have a question which software should be best for me as currently I am in my second year undergrad
IMHO, Abaqus is the most powerful and progressive software, it has a lot of concrete and soil models, and progressive nonlinear solvers
Hi agree Abaqus is really good but it Is also very expensive
I am the first actually... Lol. I was very impressed in the video and forget about liking and commenting
Hi Nat thanks for the support it is really appreacted.
I am from Bangalore, India I am looking for Open Source & Paid Structural and Civil Engineering Softwares
which can be used in Ubuntu Pro Linux
Hi Brendan, great video as always. Can you please do a video on facade engineering?
Hi Will, thanks for the comments. I will add it to the list. Thanks for the continued support.
Hello Sir
Can you suggest a good book for PEB design.for all kind mamber
Thanks Brendan, really insightful.
Glad that you found it helpful, thanks for supporting the channel.
What about detailing software ? Away from Revit and AutoCAD ?
Hi Patrick, there are a couple of alternatives like bricksCAD.
Really good for engineers
I am from algeria could you use the skyciv program to model the concrete structure in earthquake ?
Hi it does model concrete and earthquakes but not sure how well for your codes
I am Using SkyCiv looks easy Sir
It is a good program
Can you talk about disabilities related topics?
Hi Asiangreen in what way? Related to engineering?
@@BrendanHasty maybe like building code related to Accessibility design and construction
thank you a lot . from sudan
Thanks for watching
They have IS codes or only American.
OpenSees is not free for commercial use
Hi, you are correct, but you can use it from education but would need to get a licence to use it in a comercial way.
Can anyone give mea a structural design engineering job in Australia. Its so difficult to crack this job market.
Good luck on your job search. The first one is always the hardest.
@@BrendanHasty hey, what do you reckon a design engineer leaving his design job in his home country to become a inspector in Australia , is it the right way to enter the job market ?
You need to try to get a design job if you can.
Indian codes are not here it seem??
Hi Hruai that is a shame assuming you are referring to Rapt. Hope the other help
In the middle east the free software is one old cracked copy of Staad Pro. Anything else used in the region is unacceptable
You never talk about too little fees
😘
