  • I made this montage from drone clips I took during my first Camino which I walked in June/July of last year. I set out to record the landscapes of the beautiful northern regions of Spain in the hope that future or past pilgrims could reflect on the landscapes, or get a sense of what they were in for!
The clips are in chronological order and show how the landscapes change - from the mountainous regions of the French-Spanish border, to the flatlands of the Meseta, and all the way back into the mountains of Galicia. The landscapes are varied and vast, and there is little footage online of aerial perspectives.
I would like to add that I have no experience in video editing, nor in the complexities of drone cinematography. So please take what you see in its literal format, thanks!
I would love to hear anyone's experiences that might have sprung to mind - as a result of seeing certain recognisable areas. Thank you for watching!
(This video is not monetised and is made for non-profit reasons)

I might also add that if the music is not to your taste, feel free to put something of your choice over the top! 😇

Great to see the Camino from this perspective. I enjoyed seeing the little captions at the bottom and knowing where it was flying over.

Very cool video! The aerial perspective is so different and intriguing. Thanks for putting this together. It might encourage more people to walk the Camino! (Ps I did mine in August/September of 2020 and hoping to be going for another one some time).

Great work and much appreciated. I'm familiar with the French Camino from Astorga onwards. I'm assuming you flew a mini-class drone, due to your proximity to people and buildings I've been walking sections of the various Camino routes for the last five years: 2 or 3 weeks each year. In September I'm bringing a drone with me and walking the Finisterre & Muxia route. I'm wondering what your experience was in terms of having any issues or problems using a drone in Spain. I'm aware of and will be complying with the official Spanish regulations. I chose this route (having already walked it in 2019) due to its lower population, smaller towns and obviously gorgeous scenery.

I flew a DJI Mini 2 which was a sub 249g drone. I had no issues with flying drones anywhere, most of my Camino was relatively quiet in terms of people around - and the Mini 2 drone makes very little noise so it is rarely noticed by any bystanders. I carried a single extra battery which allowed me to occasionally miss a charge at a hostel if I didn't have convenient access to a power outlet - but 99% of the time this was no issue. Enjoy your route to Finisterre! I plan to do the del Norte next summer - where I also hope to make it to Finisterre. Buen Camino!
