    H4 Conversion Kit:
    www.ebay.com/it...
    It's finally time to replaced the cracked sealed beam with something a little more modern and maybe even a little brighter. A 200mm H6054 sealed beam headlight shares the same connector as an H4 Bulb so they are directly interchangeable.
    The trick now is to get a housing that fits in the 200mm bucket that holds H4 bulbs. I found mine on ebay from an AutoPal Dealer and got a 200mm H6054 H4 Euro Conversion Headlights Kit. This kit came with two european light pattern housings and two 55W/100W White Autopal H4 Bulbs. I chose the euro style because I've heard a lot of people like they way they look. The light pattern is suppose to be more evenly reflected then a DOT pattern.
    It's a direct swap so you take the old lights out and put the new ones in. I had to modify the bracket a bit so they held the housings a little tighter with some bump stops but besides that it took half an hour and was really easy to do. I think they look a little nicer and later I can upgrade to better bulbs if I want. I'm going to upgrade the light harness when that finally comes in the mail as well.

    Awesome! Glad to hear some of this stuff actually ends up being useful in the end.

    yeah, the pattern is definitely better. BTW, your videos have helped me on swapping an engine in a ZJ, so thank you!

    The exposure wasn't locked so it may have fluctuated a bit. The new lights aren't that brighter then the old ones but the light pattern is better spread so that everything is lit. The old beams had a very bright spot that focused at one point while the new housing diffuse it into a larger radius. The bulbs are chepo Indian brand so a nice set would help. A new lighting harness will give them an extra volt which will help brightness a bit too.

    I know I'm late to the party here, but in case you still haven't learned this: you're not supposed to touch halogen bulbs with your bare hands. If you do, you should clean the glass off thoroughly with alcohol or something else that can completely remove your skin oils. Otherwise they superheat and burn out much faster.

    It's a little misleading I assume because of the brightness and the camera sensor, but they look around the same in the comparison. Still, a nice upgrade.

    Hey Nick, great videos!
    About ready to finally do a much needed h4 / harness upgrade...
    I'm rolling a '95 XJ with a multi-function switch, and I'm curious how you're running low beam, high beam, and "BOTH" as described in your videos.

    • @NickInTimeFilms
      @NickInTimeFilms  10 років тому

      I'm just taking advantage of the loose tolerances in the high beam stalk. With the Low beams on, I hold the High beam stalk back far enough to activate the High beams but not enough to trigger the Low beams off. If you plan on buying/making a new wiring harness, you could make an in-cab switch that separately activates the high beams or the low beams so you can turn them on separate of the stock setup. It's a simple positive jump on the relay.

    I bought a set of glass lights like these for my 77 lemans, 4x6 inch. They make bright lines on the ground for the first 5ft. Weird looking. I see yours do that on high as well. Yet I never see this pattern on stock lights on any vehicle. I wonder what it is.

    • @NickInTimeFilms
      @NickInTimeFilms  8 років тому

      The brighter vertical parts of the beam are caused by the "flutes" or vertical lines on the front of the lens. Not totally sure of their intended function but most older cars have them to a certain degree.

      Just seemed off, they were very pronounced on the cheap chinese bulbs I bought, there were glass fronts with H4 bulbs, but my stock sealed beams were brighter and didn't have the lines that I remember. I got rid of the car not long ago with the chinese headlights still in it so on to my jeep. Thinking about trying the all LED 200mm replacements, just for fun. They look like spider eyes though.

      A few of my buddies in the Jeep group I follow run the LED conversions, they seem to enjoy them but they do look a little goofy.

    You don't sound entirely thrilled with the upgrade, but accept that they are somewhat better if nothing else. Is that pretty much the case? If you upgraded the wiring harness, or even if you didn't, are you getting people flashing you for your lights blinding them? I'm thinking of upgrading and I heard AutoPal was a great quality brand.

    • @NickInTimeFilms
      @NickInTimeFilms  10 років тому

      My expectations were a bit higher then they should have been for how little I payed for the bulbs. The Euro conversion housings themselves work nicely. They have an evenly spread beam with a decent cutoff for halogen tech and once I adjusted them properly I haven't gotten a single flash from other drivers. I cracked one of the glass covers a while ago so I'm not looking forward to changing out bulbs but as long as you aren't running through branches or splashing cold water onto them, you should be fine.
      The main reason for this conversion housing is really just staying current with what's out in stores. You won't find too many sealed beam options but a quick look down the isle will provide plenty of different H4 bulbs to choose from that are usually brighter. Once these cheap indian bulbs burn out I'll swap in some Silvana Silver Stars to see the difference compared to a quality bulb. I also upgraded my wiring harness which also helped a bit. You'll see the biggest improvement from both mods if your stock wiring harness is falling apart and you're replacing cheap, old sealed beams.
      If you're looking to run H4 Bulbs on a budget, I'd recommend Autopal. They are cheap and seem to do the job just fine. A headlight harness will almost always help too, especially if you are planning on using higher wattage bulbs. Check my wiring harness vid for all the details on that. Hope this helps.

      I just watched your other video and the lights do look improved with that clown-colored harness lol Hey thanks for the reply you wrote a book but I respect that -- I will get AutoPal's ECE h4 conversion and use Phillips X-treme Vision H4 bulbs due to the overwhelming recommendation off recent Candlepowerforums.com moderators who rates them much higher than the Silverstar (and SS Ultras) bulbs of which I have on my other car and find them perfectly good. But they say the X-treme Vision bulbs are brightest if not quite as white as the SS bulbs. Just a thought, if you care to consider between the two in the future. Thanks again, and great videos.

    • @NickInTimeFilms
      @NickInTimeFilms  10 років тому +1

      Jgizzy -redacted- I'll have to look into the X-tremes myself then. I bought the Silverstars a while back for another car but just haven't needed them yet so they'll function as back ups for now. I know the SS Ultras are a little brighter but i don't think it's worth it for how quickly they burn out. My dad can use up a set of Ultras in a little over 3 months, while the standard SS would last me over 6. A year later and these cheapo bulbs are still burning fine, although one of the high beams has been in and out for a while. Nothing compares to the 26,000 Lumen LED light bar I have on the roof though. It's hard to look at street signs with that monster, haha. Anyways, thanks for the tip and good luck.

    Hey how do you turn on both low and high beams

    • @NickInTimeFilms
      @NickInTimeFilms  10 років тому

      With the low beams on, I just held the high beam stalk back far enough for it to turn on the highs without shutting off the lows. You have to hold the stalk the whole time though so it's not very convenient.

    60/55 watt bulbs are better because they produce much less heat then 100 w and they have only marginal better light then 60 w highbeam

    The main difference between US and the EURO headlights are the cutoff angles ... The Euro lights are designed to shine to the left and off the road (into the other lane when used in the US ) , and the US lights are designed to angle to the right so they dont shine into the oncoming traffic .... That is why it is illegal to use Euro spec headlights on US models ... The cut off angle is different and you are now shining light into oncoming traffic instead of off the right hand side of the road ... I hope you have them aimed so they dont bother other drivers because the fine for Euro lights on a US model can be steep ... If the inspector for your annual inspection (if you have one ) does his job correctly , you would fail the inspection for the light pattern offset ... Just so you know ...

      +Norman Murray Fully aware. Have properly adjusted them so they are no longer bothersome.

      I just wanted to let you know , just in case you didnt know that was the difference ... Some people do not know the difference ... Ohh and thanks for the headlight harness upgrade video ... I now have 4 jeeps to do this on ...

    • @NickInTimeFilms
      @NickInTimeFilms  9 років тому

      +Norman Murray Glad the Harness Upgrade helped, I still like the harness but am swapping out the junk chinese relays for standard bosch ones so replacement is easier.
      I've go a few questions for your previous info though. European roads are similar to American, everyone drives on the Right side of the road. E Code beam patterns are similar to DOT beams for this reason except for the sharper cut-off at the top and an angled beam that shines up and to the right to illuminate road signs better. I've noticed in comparison pictures that they seem to have a more consistent light spread compared to DOT. If anything, they may shine slightly less on oncoming drivers. Here is a pic for comparison: www.headlightservices.com/files/IMG_205.jpg
      And as for fines, NJ inspection is focused almost solely on emissions these days anyway so I'm not worried about. Much better option then ricers putting HID's in Halogen housings, lol.

    • @Dino30ish
      @Dino30ish 9 років тому +1

      Good comparison pic ... and also good to know , thanks ... In my inspection class to get my ASE , that was the one point the emphasized when headlights are concerned ... Euro and HID in (when non stock spec) are an instant fail ... I am in NC , so our inspection stats may differ from NJ .. But the Euro housings are a big no go here ... The car can be impounded (if the officer knows what to look for )

    • @NickInTimeFilms
      @NickInTimeFilms  9 років тому

      +Norman Murray Interesting. I know some states get real up in arms about vehicle modification so it's nice to hear other perspectives. As long as the headlights are blinding, it's not an issue here. You still see terrible HID conversions from time to time though. Oh well, good luck with the ASE's. Tech A, Tech B stuff is always fun, and none of the above it almost never the right answer. lol

    I'm about to pick these up. I live in California. I'm considering their DOT Euro Conversion housings just to stay legal. You ever have any issues?

    • @NickInTimeFilms
      @NickInTimeFilms  7 років тому +1

      Besides cracking one of the glass beams and it rusting the reflective part, nothing really. They give a very nice pattern.

    • @MovieMakerZT
      @MovieMakerZT 7 років тому

      Sweet. I've noticed some Euro beams have a triangle on the left, and some on the right. These ones are on the left. Does that mean there is more light to the left? I thought it was supposed to light up road signs on the right.

    • @NickInTimeFilms
      @NickInTimeFilms  7 років тому +1

      MovieMakerZT IDK, But if I pull up to a wall, the beams only rise up on the right. I wouldn't use these if they were pointing to the left

      Lol. No just stock, rusty exhaust. I still had an exhaust leak at the #6 cylinder on the manifold. New gasket fixed the noise and kept it from running rich so I could pass emissions.
