- Captive breeding plays an important role in the reintroduction or reinforcement of the European Bearded Vulture population in the wild. Breeding the species in captivity is not an easy or quick process, and it takes a lot of effort.
To breed Bearded Vulture chick BG1055, the Vulture Conservation Foundation (VCF) started preparing for the breeding season months ago. First, the team had to prepare its future foster parent, Kajazo, who is actually a human imprinted male and mates with his human keeper. At the same time, the staff was also looking after the other breeding pairs of the centre, including Joseph (male) and M. Antoinette (female) who laid the clutch that became BG1055! The centre artificially incubates the eggs, and this involves taking a number of steps to aid the hatching process, including thermal shock, a protocol developed by the VCF. Once the chick hatched, it was taken care by the staff and monitored non stop until it was ready to be adopted by its foster parent. Watch the video and learn the fascinating story of what it took to breed this chick in captivity!

Make animals go extinct is easy. Make them be reintroduced to the wild is super demanding and challenging. Great job whoever does this may the hapinness be with you wherever you are
Happy birthday today, BG1055. 2 years old this day. I love you.
It blows my mind to see just how massive these birds are. I'm roughly the same size as a lammergeier.
Thank you so much for all that you do for these creatures.
This made me cry with joy. Lamageier my favourite bird. Thank you so so much for all your work in saving this species. You are a saint. X
Wow ! Thank you all for your amazing effort !

Those birds are just magnificent. Like if they’ve crawled straight out of an indie death metal album cover and adopted the grace of a swan. Beautiful creatures!

heart warmed vdo
Quite a meditative work!! Loved the effort! Keep continuing👍
That was amazing! Such beautiful birds!!
BG1055 is probably 2 years old now
I’m still crying. Also, though, how do you look at a heartwrenchingly adorable puffball like that and give it a number instead of naming it immediately?
Also also, if Antoinette’s reason for needing a foster parent was that her eggs kept breaking, why not give Kazajo the real egg instead of a fake one? Then he may be able to see it hatch
Such a wonderful video ! I subscribed
That's so cool!
(I think people will still grow attached to animals with numerical names if that was the reason ^^")

What a cool bird. Take care of the vulture with care fella.
Remarkable and fascinating work, a pleasure to watch the success x
Beautiful majestic bird, it'll be great if they are introduced to the north American continent.
💜💜💜
Amazing
Thank you for doing all that. anyhow about the throwing bone in the wild learning from who? and will they capable of doing that from captive breed into the wild?
I wonder how often a chick is rejected by the foster parent. And what happens to the chick if its rejected.
What it takes....not is.....
Do they also feed their babies in the wild bones or they have to eat meat?
The babies can't eat bones yet.
A lot of work.
What happens to Joseph and Antoinette? Are they not looking for chicks?
I want a vultur baby can you give me plss
