It seems clear to me that the main issue with this film is that the studio didn’t really know where to go with the franchise story wise. They knew they wanted Dinos on the mainland, but in terms of stories and themes, they had no idea. And that’s the same issue they’ve had SINCE Jurassic Park

Blue joining the other raptors in Isla Sorna (Site B) could've been a real ending of Jurassic Park/World series.
However, it never happened. Because the writers didn't care. 😔

Looking forward to Dominion, I put together a brief outline for how it should be improved. The biggest issues for that film are as follows: horrendous, downright insulting writing; terrible performances; too many characters/dinosaurs, with no space for character arcs or memorable action set pieces; misuse of legacy characters; lack of focus on dinosaurs, as was promised at the end of FK; no stakes; rubbery-looking animatronics; and zero thematic substance.
My proposed fix for these issues is to shift the focus away from locusts/genetic power being in the wrong hands, and instead focus on the dinosaurs. A simple but effective way to follow up on Maisie’s actions in FK is to have the herbivorous animals eating all of humanity’s crops. You could say that herbivores and Compsognathus are breeding at an unprecedented rate (following up on the BABR baby Nasutoceratops being the omen for humanity’s crisis), and crops aren’t able to grow at a rapid-enough rate to satiate the hungry, growing, and numerous herbivores. There are too few carnivores to aid in population control, nor do they breed as rapidly as the herbivores. Some have tried to poison herbivores using advanced pesticides, but because the herbivores consume staple crops (rice, wheat, etc.) those pesticides have caused people to get critically unwell, whilst not at all affecting the dinosaurs. Transporting carnivores from Sorna has had some success, but it’s not enough to really curb the issue. Because of the efforts by the DPG to list dinosaurs as an endangered species, human can’t hunt the animals to control populations themselves. There’ve been some poaching efforts with support from fringe groups, however, poachers were immediately punished. To make the issue of dinosaur over-breeding even more alarming, Compsognathus have become common pests, hiding in attics, trash cans, and invading hospitals where several were seen consuming a newborn.
Biosyn proposed resurrecting a Giganotosaurus with a hyper-aggressive gene to single-handedly eradicate the dinosaur problem. Taking what was learned from the Indoraptor/the Mantah Corp island experiments, the Giganotosaurus could be controlled. This idea receives government funding in the billions, potentially resolving the dinosaur catastrophe. This has prompted two distinct factions of people; those who are for and those who are against. Those for (government bodies, industries, militaries, the right wing, etc.) see this as a quick fix. Groups against, like Claire and the DPG suggest Biosyn could better use their resources to increase the rate of growth for crops, managing to feed both the dinosaurs and also resolve world hunger (Biosyn’s argument would be that it isn’t profitable, being consistent with the anti-capitalist themes in the Jurassic series so far).
The new giant carnivore would eventually prove Claire right. In a test on US soil, the Giganotosaurus was too successful, killing everything in its wake, including people. Thus ensues the conflict. While similar to Jurassic World, the main difference is in how Wu responds to the violent nature of the Giganotosaurus. The rage associated with the Indominus was because of a genetic cocktail, whereas here, the Giganotosaurus was deliberately sequenced with a hyper-aggressive gene. The onus is then on Wu rather than brushing it off as a side effect. Wu could redeem himself by following Claire’s advice and generating more crops to make both humans and the dinosaurs happy.
I’ve yet to figure out the finer details as this is only an outline, but I think this is consistent with the work that has come before as well as the effort you’ve put in. I’d love to know what you think.

    • @jurassicswine
      @jurassicswine 2 місяці тому +1

This is a very unique and interesting idea! My one big piece of input would be the ending. I’d personally have it end on a more somber note.
Dinosaurs on the mainland has been set up as a worst-case scenario since the first Jurassic Park novel. I think the ending should reflect that. One of the many, _many_ things I hate about Dominion is how it ends on what might as well be the power of friendship winning out.
Building off of your idea for the Giganotosaurus, I’d draw more of a parallel to the cane toads in Australia: introduced to control another invasive species, but only causing even more damage. With such a ravenous appetite the Giganotosaurus forgoes other dinosaurs in favor of much easier prey like cattle, causing even more damage to an already hurting rural population.
Drawing even more parallels to real life cases of invasive species, Claire’s sympathies for the dinosaurs could lean heavily on how the hippos in Columbia are treated. Despite the large ecological disturbances they’re causing, their charismatic appearance and economic benefits as a draw for tourists leads some to want to protect them.
The main thesis of a Dominion rewrite, for me at least, should be how there are no heroes. Everyone is a victim; the people, the dinosaurs, the environment. All are made to suffer as a result of corporate greed and human arrogance.

Cool fix! Also, one of the best ways to fix the next movie: Jurassic World: Dominion is to just set the movie in a post-apocalyptic world where humans end up on the edge of extinction and the Dinosaurs are taking over the planet. Thank you so much! In a dream world, I’d have enough time to devote myself both to this channel and to screenwriting these ideas. It’s one thing to essentially summarize these stories for an hour long video, but as I’m doing it, I’m imagining exact pieces of dialogue and how I’d want them delivered, I’m picturing the framing and pace of each scene, and in my mind’s eye I’m typing out all the action in an actual script. I drop a lot of exposition in these stories that I would prefer to show instead of tell (specifically the interpersonal relationships) but the format makes showing impossible. But I do appreciate when fellow fans react, positively, negatively, neutrally, to my work. I’m out to entertain, after all!

The new movies don't understand what made the originals great. In the first film the Dinosaurs acted like animals. A good example of this is when the T-rex attacks the jeep. it flips the vehicle over and bites the tires. In its mind it is flipping over its armoured pray to expose its fleshy belly. And when it doesnt find food it gets annoyed and pushes the car off of the cliff. There's complexity to its behaviour. We see that it's dangerous and unfamilar with human vehicles and that it has emotions because it gets frustrated.
In the more recent movies its just "run from the giant murdersaurus and oh no its got optic camouflage now."
Another important part of jurassic park movies are the philosophical debates. The first film had ones centered on genetic engineering and control in complex systems and in lost world the debate is between hunters and gatherers and what drives each party. In the new films its, "dinosaurs are magical and we gotta save them guys."

  • @TrexTamer
    @TrexTamer 3 місяці тому +1

well per tradition at this point, here are my thoughts:
    1. while cool. the opening for the film has some of the biggest leaps in logic. for 1 how could the people in the helicopter be freaking out over the Rex taking it down but the kaiju sized mosasaur not due jack squat when it clamped down. (though I do like what you did with it. I'm imagining the reveal with the Rex being like Goji -1)
    2. I believe that the lore states that Isla Sorna was stripped of dinosaurs for JW right?
    3. bringing in Tim feels a bit fanfictiony and I could see a lot of people poking that idea. but I do find this inclusion the most believable than I've seen to incorporate him and his sister in the past.
    4. a man-made (or controllable) volcanic eruption by a quick google search tells is "laughably impossible."
    5. the Irex sibling being eaten is the same as the 6 raptors being killed by the Big One in JP, it's exposition solely existing to demonstrate the danger of the living animal in question. bringing in the sibling when the last film made no prerequisite of the other creature would make the sequel feel like the Maisie plot twist all over again and thus leaving the indoraptor the "unused Chekhov's gun."
    6. When was it established Barry could fly? Wheatly just feels unnecessary, and you kind of lost the heartless mad scientist of Wu in this rewrite.
    7. knowing Grant's character in JP3 this would NOT be reasonable for his character. his inclusion was not necessary.
    8. and the whole dinosaurs escaping to the mainland feel like you kinda brushed it in by the end since that was this films whole point.
Overall I MUCH prefer most of this over the finalized film. but like most monsterverse fan continuations I feel it goes a bit overboard in nostalgia that doesn't make much sense when considering how many rewrites and other things may come up. while trying to make the films feel more connected should be a no brainer, I feel many of the dinosaur scenes in this rewrite lacked substance in terms of plot progression or character building aside from a handful of scenes with Blue, Toro, and Irex 2.
and for Mattel, while i'm greatly appreciative of their line for being the most diverse, articulated, and screen accurate line of JP toys, I must say, their cheapness in quality and paint job and especially quality control is ABSOLUTELY PITIFUL I've had over A DOZEN figures with some kind of factory error. Some with not enough glue or paint, others with too much, warped, scratched or cracked straight out of the box, ill-assembled hadrosaur jaws, misprinted eyes or patterns, and even the time I didn't even get half my order of the open shirt Malcolm (one was fine, the other I got the box but not the figure).
Ironically, with Hasbro I had none of these quality control errors. do I say they should get back the license? aside from re-releasing the vintage stuff. not really but all the praise Mattel has gotten I believe isn't as warranted.

Tim gaining control of InGen makes sense to me, he’s Hammond’s only grandson, after all. Nepotism is everywhere. Also, Grant’s entire character arc in Jurassic Park 3 is shifting from seeing the dinosaurs as beautiful animals rather than “theme park monsters.” That’s the point of the “Billy was right” scene. It’s not too enormous of a stretch to think Tim could convince him to follow his desire to study the live animals.

Hey man, good to see you’re still here lol.
      1. Yes, it does strain credulity but I can also buy that the Mosasaurus’ jaws simply bit so hard that the rope ladder snapped easily from the chopper, allowing the aircraft to escape without harm. Honestly I felt the most unbelievable part of my story was the mosasaur causing the ship to veer off course lol
      2. I believe BioSyn did that following Fallen Kingdom, because otherwise why did Jurassic World only have one Rex when it should have had at least two more? In any case, Sorna being pillaged isn’t addressed on screen until a passing line in Dominion so I think retconning it for the purposes of this story was appropriate.
      3. Thanks! As someone already pointed out, nepotism is literally everywhere, and Masrani verbalizes that Hammond entrusted the dream of Jurassic Park to him. So in conceiving a way to bring back Tim that would make some sense, it occurred to me that Masrani, being so idealistic and starry-eyed, would install Hammond’s literal legacy as the head of InGen. There was a certain poetry to it that I couldn’t resist once I thought of it.
      4. Yes! You’re absolutely correct. However, I also thought it was mad that both Hammond and especially Masrani would build on an island that could potentially suffer such a fate. With all the varied resources at his disposal, he couldn’t tell that the volcano was going to come alive within a decade of opening his park? That sort of thing can be predicted. It’s crazy to think that regardless of what the Indominus did, Jurassic World would have fallen eventually because no one checked to make sure the volcano was truly dormant. So I figured I’d do some crazy engineering mumbo jumbo and draw from established lore concerning the geothermal power to explain why suddenly the volcano came to life. It is impossible. But so is bringing back dinosaurs with blood taken from mosquitoes.
      5. I can’t agree here. The Indominus was terrifying without having to psych out the audience. It would have been an absolutely stunning moment if JW had pulled a “Meg” and trotted out another Indominus at a key moment, having hinted at it in the first few seconds of the movie. I kept expecting it to materialize and it never did. That’s the definition of an unfired Chekov’s gun.
      6. When was it established Barry couldn’t fly? There’s no backstory I’m aware of that prevents the character from having that skill. Though I don’t say anything to set that up beforehand, in an actual script I would probably drop a hint about it in passing earlier, maybe with Barry passing by a chopper pilot on the deck of the Arcadia and asking how the aircraft handled.
I needed someone to take the operation over and bring the dinosaurs to the mainland after Mills’ death, and Wheatley was that guy.
I do strip Wu down in this story. Him being a villain or even a mad scientist never sat right with me anyway. His turn in Dominion wasn’t convincing because he just kind of comes off as a whiny, underfoot character in Fallen Kingdom. I wanted to humanize him. He’s still unethical here, keeping the Indominus 2 alive when he should have euthanized it, and I never fully commit to him being a “good” character. He’s grieving for the loss of Indominus at the end, but by and large grief is for the living: he’s focused on how it’s affected *him* rather than on how the Indominus 2 was in so much pain that it chose death over existence when presented the option.
      7. Grant seems to come around to Billy’s way of thinking by the end of JP3. “My God, I’d forgotten.” His interest in the raptors communications. His talk on the boat with Eric followed immediately by marveling at the dinosaurs on the bank. It does seem that Grant’s arc is reversing his opinion that the animals are “nothing more than theme park monsters.” Even a cut line in the helicopter has him admitting he’d like to come back. With his relationship with Ellie a nonstarter and the world still turning its back on paleontology after the San Diego incident and, I imagine, even more so in the wake of Jurassic World’s opening, is it any wonder Grant would choose to return to Sorna if he could do his work safely? I also played with the idea of Sarah Harding being there with him but I thought it would just be too much.
      8. Sure did. It took me forever to figure out a good way to make it happen and what I settled on was this. In Fallen Kingdom, only like forty dinosaurs actually escape and they all do so from the same place. The idea that now the entire world is overrun is kind of silly. I envision instead that Wheatley’s fleet, carrying substantially more dinosaurs, disseminate their bounty across the world by selling off their cargo at multiple ports.
I’m glad you found some enjoyment from my retelling though! As always you bring up some great points and I hope I’ve successfully explained why I made some of the choices that weren’t to your liking😅

The future of the Jurassic franchise
By having the dinosaurs now starting to spread all over the world
And if your saying thats all this movie is
    Your wrong
Its also a countinouation of the Hybrid storyline
The start of the possibility of humans using genetic power for other purposes other than cloning dinosaurs
And was what truly kick started the franchise to what it is today
    We wouldn't have
    The metal toyline

    Camp cretaceous
    Chaos theory
    Dinotracker
    The hatching
Or such a large amount of fans
    Dose it have problems
    Of course it dose
    The comedy is terrible
But then again its not supposed to be a comedy
I found it pointless to have the first Owen and Claire interaction to be that they broke up after jurassic world
    That story didn't go anywhere
And i hate the movies constantly using rexy for promo shots
But there is so much they get right with this movie that saves it for me
Its definitely the darkness jurassic movie so far
And the franchise is lacking that more Michel critten style
This movie has the best opening of any jurassic film
It also has the saddest scene in the form of the Brachiosaurus death
I love most of the new species it introduces
Even though the Carnotaurus scene was underused i still love how the mannage to include it into the films
And it has a badass design
    I loved the Stygimoloch
Whether or not you consider it its own genus or not
It was still a cool dinosaur they introduced
I know the Sinoceratops design gets alot of hate
But as a creature design lover
    I love it
Pluss would you raver have it be a Sinoceratops or a pachyrhinosaurus
Because we all know pachyrhinosaurus didn't have a horn
    As for the Baryonyx
I dont like its design and i dont like the scene it was in
But at least we finally get to see it in the flesh
    And the Allosaurus
    I dont like the design
    But it was a juvenile
And the adult Allosaurus introduced in battle at big rock was gold and ended up being my absolute favourite dinosaurs design in the franchise besides parasaurolophus lux
Most the complaints you make dont make sence
The reason that they needed to go get the indominus rex sample was explained in camp cretaceous
If they restarted from scratch it could have taken them years to complete the indoraptor
    And pluss
Its not as simple as just combining the indominus rex DNA with Velociraptor and abelisaurus
It needs to have the right technically
And after the fall of jurassic world
Dr wu had his DNA samples at the end of Jurassic world he taken away from him after he was denounced from his science career
It wasn't Benjamin cloning humans that was what led to him and Hammond falling apart
Because in the context of the movie
Maisie is only 11 years old not 9
    And was created in 2007
And john Hammond died in 1997 shortly after the lost world
    So yah
Collen trevarow siad that it was Benjamin that was discussing cloning humans that drove them apart
And john Hammond saw that creating dinosaurs was enough
    But cloning humans was unholy
And if you wondering why didn't Benjamin do anything about ingen during the lost world
Its because john had forbidden him to get involved with anything to do with jurassic park or their cloning technology
And as to why elis dialogue claimed that masies cloning is what led to their break up
Imagine if it world history said this
Why do you think hitler was to mad
    Yah
    Hitler was a dictator
    He wanted to control Europe
    And he had the army
    He started a war
    He became history
    And from what eli said
He didn't explicitly say it was maisie being a clone that drove them apart
But it was cloning humans that drove them apart
And as for why Claire is a they way she is in this movie
There was one scene that made her change in jurassic world
It was the dying Apatosaurus that made her realise that the dinosaurs arnt just profit
    But actual living breathing animals
And as to why she wasn't suede
    She probably was
But since jurassic world was a million possibly billion dollar park
She could have had more then enough money to pay off for visitor injuries or employment deaths
    And destruction of property
Pluss extra for the fact that world thought the camp cretaceous campers died on isla nublar
And she used the money that was left to fund the Dinosaur Procetction group
And the indoraptor isn't just a Hybrid between a velociraptor and indominus rex
But also abelisaurus and German shepherd
Pluss its genetic modifications to make it smaller and more agile then the indominus
And as to why it didn't just rip maisie to shreads straight away
    Theres to possible theorys
1 is that the indoraptor imprinted on her and was only chasing after her to try and show its love
Or the other one is that the indoraptor was just toying with her
Because it was toying with Wheatley
You have to actually pay attention to what your watching in order to understand
Also im sick of people not taking the military dinosaur concept seriously
    Because think of it
Thousands of solders die in war
    And they dont deserve it
But why have human solders that are limated
When you can have an army of well traind dinosaurs that are in endless numbers to kill the enemy
You could give them bullet proof skin
    Like with the indoraptor
Show them their targets like with the laser
Now i dont get why it had to be a gun laser
    But my point still stands
It is not a pointless or stupid concept
Aspescaly when you consider the fact that we are sacrificing human lives for our own goles
Now before you say anything about how using dinosaurs is animal abuse
I am agenst using inocent animals in war
But thats why you rout for the heros
And pluss the indoraptor is no ordinary dinosaur
    Its a mindless killer
And if this was the real world
Do you really think they would put animal lives before humans
Not to mention genetically modified animals where if you run out you can create an endless amount with no limits

If you can't spell, punctuate, or form a paragraph, people are going to have a hard time understanding what you're trying to say.
