Star-Lord Reads: Journey to Justice (Captain America)
The thing that frustrates me the most about the Jurassic franchise and, specifically, the Jurassic World trilogy, is that it completely misses the potential of the ideas that it presents. The JP trilogy (which isn't really a trilogy by the way, but a movie that had one sequel, and then another sequel) was content to repeat its formula after the first movie, with better and worse results, but it was always about people going to an island full of dinosaurs, then things go wrong, and they finally escape. The JW trilogy, on the other hand, despite being highly derived from the plots of the originals, tried to do something different with the saga, and failed. But what really rubs salt in the wound are the brief but notable moments where you can see what JW could have been. What do you think?
You’ve truly hit on the biggest problem with the sequels that I have and the primary reason why I started this series in the first place: the kernels of potential are there, the sparks of something truly memorable, and they are not allowed to breathe properly, causing them to face plant instead of soar.
As a production designer, I have to completely disagree on the color palette. Sure, your stance has validity, but the reality is this film lacked variable, visual latitude. Its a lot of warm colors overlapping, and since there's no park, there's no signage or anything to really break up the image organically. It's a very dull looking film as is. Those shades of blues in the raptors and chartreusian yellows and greens, and those reds, too, really help elevate that look and make them stand out. It might break certain established looks and those core functions, but it offers a level of visual interest. Even as a kid, i thought this film was ugly, and if it weren't for the raptors, I wouldn't remember as much as I have. It's a very filmic decision and works as such.
So much better scenes could have been included with the time saved by cutting the whole dino rampage on the mainland part. Plus you get a perfectly natural ending of the helicopter rescue. I also refuse to belie that everything at the hunter's camp was so badly destroyed that they were only left with their backpacks.
Sooo you change like 80% of the movie to make it decent instead of mostly stupid. Got it. Jurassic World is really poorly written.
Here's my take on JP3: I'd have the movie focus on a group of young university students who have been stranded on Isla Sorna after a plane crash and are now trying to survive out in the wild. The Spino is still in the movie, but it isn't the main antagonist. The Utahraptors (replacement of the Velociraptors) will be. There is no T-Rex vs Spino (The T-Rex is absent), the Spino will instead face off against a Carcharodontosaurus, a dinosaur who lived with Spinosaurus back then, and was also the first dinosaur created by InGen. And unlike the T-Rex, the Carcharodontosaurus survives. In the end, the university students get rescued by Alan, Ellie, Ian, and Sarah.
I thought the sisters were alive in your other rewrite? 52:29
Each rewrite occurs in its proper continuity and doesn’t build on the previous rewrite. :)
@ no you said only one raptor died, and only the one that blew up died which was Charlie I think
@@Pawtism_Legacy in my How to Fix Jurassic World, I do keep all but one raptor alive. For this video, as with every video in the series, I did not continue that continuity, and I fix each sequel using the continuity of the *real* movies before it. So this is not a sequel to *my* Jurassic World, it’s a sequel to the real Jurassic World.
@@BryanIra305 oh I read that last comment wrong sorry. I get it never mind.
10:36 yup, Its one of the best action sequences in film history
3:52 MY FUCKING MIND IS BLOWN, YOURE RIGHT! My favorite film is The lost world but youre absolutely right, the third film should’ve been THE mainland event
"What do they got in there, King kong?"
I really enjoy The Lost World
underrated channel holy shit i guess im your 678th sub
Thank you so much!
Great Video! Your analysis of Ellie is stellar! I’ve seen this Movie four to five times in the past year and you made me realize things that I didn’t catch from the Movie! Your Videos are criminally underrated!
Thank you! 😊
I love Ellie. She's beautiful, smart, and brave!!!.
It seems clear to me that the main issue with this film is that the studio didn’t really know where to go with the franchise story wise. They knew they wanted Dinos on the mainland, but in terms of stories and themes, they had no idea. And that’s the same issue they’ve had SINCE Jurassic Park
This was very good
Thank you!
Obviously making a film isn't a simple task, but I think these few things are an easy ask from us fans: 1.) Make the characters speak like actual people. Turning Jurassic Park into a cynical MCU facsimile betrays the tone and intent of the first three movies. Yes, even JP3, as breezy as it was, let Alan Grant act like Alan Grant. 2.) If you can't shoot/block/light/edit animatronics convincingly, don't use animatronics. 3.) Have a story roadmap and stick to it. Dinosaurs all over the world? Focus on getting to that and then delivering on that premise. No bizarre locust/human clone/weaponized dinosaur digressions. Keep narrative focus. 4.) The PG-13 rating is surprisingly flexible. Use that to your advantage. This is less aimed at Fallen Kingdom, which had at least some fangs, but Dominion was especially child friendly. Like, small child friendly. It's okay to have likable characters bite the dust in violent ways. Kong: Skull Island got away with a shocking amount of graphic violence for a PG-13. 5.) The stakes need to feel tangible. A whole park of people being threatened by dinos? Solid. Dinos being auctioned off across the world to terrible people? Decent. Giant grasshoppers eating all of our wheat? Not so much. All that being said, Gareth Edwards is about as perfect a director choice as any for this new project. David Koepp is writing so the characters will speak like Jurassic Park/TLW characters. The small plot synopsis we have does seem to have somewhat grounded and dire stakes and the new cast is excellent. I really think Rebirth will slam a home run. At least compared to the Trevorrow output, but the above suggestions are what need to be executed on to salvage this franchise from the sad fate of other once great sci-fi IP like Terminator. Dominion was our Terminator: Genisys. That can never happen again.
I like how you guys added the jeep beside the brachiosaurus like the movie
I'd personally split the movie into 4 acts. The 1st and 2nd acts would focus on Site B, while the 3rd and 4th acts focus on San Diego.
VERY COLD TAKE: They should've just ended the franchise with just JP3.
Great video man! It makes sense when you broke it down especially given the JP/// raptor tribe being all male led by their alpha female raptor that looked more 1st gen ingen Raptor. As stated in the ‘93 film they bred 8 Raptors originally. It reminds me very much of how they bred 7 Rexs on Sorna and how maybe one Rex changed (while keeping female skin) sex to male possibly to create buck and greenie as they’d be 2nd gen rexs bred in the wild. I’d love to hear your thoughts about that in another vid! So far out of the 7 rexs that we know are females (sisters imo much like blue and hers) are rexy, doe & big eatie. With maybe one of the remaining 4 changed sex post the hurricane that wiped out a lotta site b. I wonder what your thoughts on Rexy and doe being sisters looking so much alike really as well as big eatie being a sister who possibly grew up on the more northern tropical part of site b for her coloring that’s a little more vibrant. And where the buck and jp3 rex came from. Possibly 2nd gen rexs. JP3 maybe even 3rd if it’s the infant from TLW. Thx. Would love to hear your thoughts!
I loved Jurassic World when I was younger (it was my first Jurassic movie if I recall), but now that I can look back at it critically I dare say it’s not a very good movie. For 8 year old me it was great, but for current me it’s a very hollow and formulaic blockbuster. The first part of this video explaining why Jurassic World feels so different from the JP trilogy put into words what I’ve been feeling for years. Why it feels so sterile and by the books when compared to its predecessors. I like your proposed changes, but my main criticism of Jurassic World is that I can see a good movie buried under there. That’s what makes it such a frustrating movie to watch. It has ideas, good ideas even, but has zero idea of what to do with them as it fumbles its way through a basic, by the books plot.
@@jurassicswine I absolutely agree. The filmmakers played things so safe that it didn’t feel like there were any surprises to be had. While entertaining, it was still a very basic, rote experience to watch.
it was really dumb to put the best fight in the movie in the first 30 min always thought this
Agreed!
Now this is bingeable content
@@QuasistellarNymphomaniac ahhh thank you!! 😊
Cool fix! Also, one of the best ways to fix the next movie: Jurassic World: Dominion is to just set the movie in a post-apocalyptic world where humans end up on the edge of extinction and the Dinosaurs are taking over the planet. A deadly virus known as the DX Virus is causing all of this mess.
@@narawilliams2429 DX would be an interesting concept to apply to Dominion, especially in light of recent pandemic. However, I already used DX as a plot device for Lost World and while there are certain ideas from this series I’m considering using for my Dominion fix, DX is one I’m leaving to Lost World. But there’s no denying that’s a compelling choice!
I got to say, you knocked out of the park with this one!👍
@@kadenbowdige2896 thank you so much!!

I appreciate this vote of confidence!! While I would love to be considered a big voice in the JP community, I know my posting schedule is too sporadic to make much of a mark on the algorithm. I’m happy to occupy this tier in the JP fan iceberg and just keep doing my thing! 😁
Fallen Kingdom is my favorite of the world trilogy i think this is a more interesting story on the film but I still love the original fallen kingdom and I love these how to fix series my favorites so far are this and the first Jurassic World fix video
@@zillafilmsstudios854 glad to hear it!
@@BryanIra305 I’m actually currently working on a Jurassic Park movie called Jurassic Park isolation it has some trailers already out it Releases on July 21St
Where is the thumbnail image from? I swear I've seen it before but can't place it.
This was taken from the box art of a Lost World puzzle that must have been illustrated before the artist knew the plot of the film and based it on what they’d read in the novel.
@@BryanIra305 Thank you!
It definitely could have been way better, narratively. Your version would have been much preferred.
Thank you! 😊
I’m excited to see your totally alternate timeline of these movies.
Thank you so much! In a dream world, I’d have enough time to devote myself both to this channel and to screenwriting these ideas. It’s one thing to essentially summarize these stories for an hour long video, but as I’m doing it, I’m imagining exact pieces of dialogue and how I’d want them delivered, I’m picturing the framing and pace of each scene, and in my mind’s eye I’m typing out all the action in an actual script. I drop a lot of exposition in these stories that I would prefer to show instead of tell (specifically the interpersonal relationships) but the format makes showing impossible. But I do appreciate when fellow fans react, positively, negatively, neutrally, to my work. I’m out to entertain, after all!
Love to read this. I’m better at the big picture when creating a story. I have at least 4 ideas for alternate Jurassic movies, as well as variations on the existing movies, but no extensive plot details. All that said, I’m excited to hear how you’d change Dominion.

no offence but this alternate take is a bit overboard.
No offense taken! It’s impossible to please everybody! I just do my best to tell what I consider to be a more engaging and interesting story, and if it lands flat for some people, that’s okay. I’m just some nerd with an imagination lol
@@BryanIra305 glad you took it well. my favourite film is JWFK but i'm fine if you personally don't like it.
personally i NEVER really saw the indominus's sibling as a "Chekhov's Gun"
Agreed, if its fate was ambiguous it'd be a Chekhov's Gun, but it was stated to not only be dead, but eaten. While I do like its plot in this rewrite, it's a retcon of directly stated information.
They could've add Lex and Tim Murphy (from Jurassic Park; first movie), Kelly Curtis Malcolm (from The Lost World: Jurassic Park 2), Eric Kirby, Billy Brennan, Charlie Degler (from Jurassic Park 3), Zach and Gray Mitchell (from Jurassic World; 2015), and more for future Jurassic Park/World movies. However, it never happened.
I'm really disappointed that Tim and Lex Murphy (John Hammond's grandchildren), and other children, teenagers as adults never returned in Jurassic Park/World movies anymore (from Jurassic Park 1, Lost World, and Jurassic Park III).😔 And neither did Zach and Gray. Maisie Lockwood is the only kid to appear in the last 2 Jurassic World movies (between Fallen Kingdom and Dominion) for some reason. No one else.
It’s always really bummed me out.
Would you ever make a Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom rewrite that continues from your first Jurassic World fix? I'd definitely be down to see it.
I have very much considered that. I think there would be some plot and/or conceptual overlap with my How to Fix Fallen Kingdom, but I would definitely love to explore the aftermath of my version, with Owen still on the island and the raptor pack one member down.
meh... i actually preferred the idea of the rex and raptor having a temporary truce. and then peacefully going their separate ways
honestly... whilst there were aspect of this alternate idea i liked... there were aspects i felt the official film did better. no offence meant of course, just stating my opinion.
No offense taken!
Ok, its actually really cool to see a reference to Camp Cretaceous in a movie
I had to sneak it in, I love when the franchise is confident enough to reference other aspects of itself.
@@BryanIra305 Are you ever planning on rewriting Camp Cretaceous? I feel like you would have a field day with season 4 and 5.
@@Luokeyo I have in fact considered doing that. If I did, I think I would have to do one season at a time, as I would relish the opportunity to critique each one before delivering a fix. It’s a bridge that will need to be crossed in a little while!
Bravo!!! Fantastic breakdown and rewrite! 🎉
Thank you kindly!
Blue joining the other raptors in Isla Sorna (Site B) could've been a real ending of Jurassic Park/World series. However, it never happened. Because the writers didn't care. 😔
i don't think they "didn't care"... they just had a different vision than you. honestly... JWFK is my favourite one of the series.
This fixing Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom of yours reminds me of The Land Before Time series.
I prefer the real ending of your "fix story".
This is what should've happened in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
😁
I would have enjoyed watching your version of this film. Such a shame good writers are in such short supply in Hollywood these days.
Thank you so much!
The new movies don't understand what made the originals great. In the first film the Dinosaurs acted like animals. A good example of this is when the T-rex attacks the jeep. it flips the vehicle over and bites the tires. In its mind it is flipping over its armoured pray to expose its fleshy belly. And when it doesnt find food it gets annoyed and pushes the car off of the cliff. There's complexity to its behaviour. We see that it's dangerous and unfamilar with human vehicles and that it has emotions because it gets frustrated. In the more recent movies its just "run from the giant murdersaurus and oh no its got optic camouflage now." Another important part of jurassic park movies are the philosophical debates. The first film had ones centered on genetic engineering and control in complex systems and in lost world the debate is between hunters and gatherers and what drives each party. In the new films its, "dinosaurs are magical and we gotta save them guys."
