My Dad retired out of Travis. Vacaville was my old stompin' grounds. So sad that you didn't pause for a moment to smell the golden grasslands and hike those hills. Solid advice, sir. Take a day off now and then while you are younger and enjoy the journey!
My dad retired out of Travis AFB in 1972. He volunteered for the Army Air Corps in 1942 and stayed for 30 years. My fond memory of Vacaville was following the produce trucks filled with freshly harvested onions. They smelled like hamburgers and always made me hungry. Vanden or Armijo?
@@mmeyers111 Oh the ONIONS! The smell of spring! My parents bought a convenience store, a Qwik Stop just across the freeway from the vegetable plant. And when the onions were being dried, it smelled like the Vacaville Fiesta Days were about to start!!!
Glad to hear the FO say about the hard days. I'm getting close on my commercial but I'm feeling burnt. I'm an older guy and I made it my full time job to train.... but 3 flights a day, and its been hot and bumpy (today was 93 deg gusting 35) and I just need a few days to decompress. I want to get done fast.... but want to enjoy the journey.
Hey Ern, just went to Tum Nak Thai. Was very good and good lord, the servings were larger than I’m used to. (I think I went to the right one on Baseline and Power).
Hey Big Eirn. Any chance you can fly a 733-700 that will be sold to coulson and do a video on it? They just got their first 700NG and buying 6 more... Think it would be good video like when you pick up a brand new max
Is he not coming in at the perfect time? I hired out on the railroad 26 years ago and have enjoyed climbing the latter quickly. We had a lot of people retire and the government required the railroads to hire heavy.
One of my favorite parts of vacation is getting there on Southwest. If Southwest doesn’t fly there am not going. Still on my bucket list to have Big Ern as my Captain.💛💙❤️
while we are on this topic... what are the chances of getting into D225 as a military vet from a non-flying career field? Degree done, building time to R-ATP.
Not uncommon. USAF has (or did back in the '80s when I was at Vance AFB; not sure if they still do this) what was known as FAIPs (First Assignment Instructor Pilots). After UPT (Undergraduate Pilot Training) graduation, they go through PIT (Pilot Instructor Training) at Randolph AFB, TX and then go back to where they completed UPT and instruct usually for a couple of years before moving on to other aircraft.
Ern's videos never cease to be fascinating.
Ernie, Nice to see you on the front page of the Business section of the Sunday edition of the Dallas Morning News! Great article!
I like that first officer- seems like a cool guy 😂

Great story of the young man!!
Boise! my hometown, born and raised there. I live in the upper peninsula of Michigan now but that's awesome :)
I grew up just outside of Detroit (yes a troll, I know) and now live in Lewiston ID.
Nah you're not a troll for being from under the bridge :) I had family up in Lewiston, beautiful area.
Timing is EVERYTHING.
Another great vlogg Big Ern!!!
Ur FO's story was amazing for someone so young. Thanks for sharing ✈☺

Loved the walk around at San Diego. Saw my old stomping grounds, Marine Corps Recruit Depot aka MCRD, in the background (all the yellow buildings).
I’m in MAF, PHX & AUS often, always keep my eyes open for a Big Ern spotting. I’ll definitely say hello when I do. Enjoy your videos.

Great video Ern. Was wondering when was the last time you had a go around flying the 737? Cheers from CYYB.

Hey is this the IATA turbulence aware platform or another proprietary turbulence app?

Hey Big ERN on a scale of 1-10 how well does PomPack as a 27 year old land the 737?
Did that first officer go to college or straight into flight school?
Will that turbulence app work if your aircraft does not have Wi-Fi?
Do you ever fly into Chicago midway
I going to be airbus 350 pilot for delta

How it is possible to be instructor with 200 hours ?? Kind of crazy ?
Part 141 program

There is no secret in aviation. It’s mostly timing with some effort and money.
