Wow! this was such a good video. I really enjoyed all the bits like the switches and the walkthrough and checklist you did at the end. I hope you can do this more often!
Love the video Ern! I am a Denver based ramp agent for Southwest airlines, so I totally understand how thew weather can go from great to bad on a dime. We could have a hot sunny day the first part, then rain and even possibly hail the second half. When you mentioned how the weather is so bipolar I was shaking my head like that is the truth with Denver. Great video again man! Love seeing them!
..thanks again for sharing Capt. Ern..but all these newest UA-cam updates.. have now turned off or hidden.. all my favorite new video posts..but still..keep em coming..
Service San Diego to anywhere (SWA) in Arizona sucks. Always claimed "turbulence" so the flight attendants dont have to do much but sit on their behind!! Every time!!! 🤣🤣
Growing up in San Diego, our home in Mission Hills was only a mile or so from the approach to 27. From my upstairs bedroom, I could easily watch the airliners as they slid past the El Cortez Hotel, seemingly barely above the streets and buildings rising from the approach end of 27. Just north from the numbers, it was there, Charles Limberg munched on sandwiches as he and Ryan Aircraft created a revolutionary newly designed plane. Near there also, I watched my father leave on flights from the small cinderblock building and the aircraft just beyond the 4 foot chain link fence where PSA would soon upgrade to Electras & a trip to LA cost about $5,00. We were also pulled out of our elementary school class to witness the first test flight of a Convair 880 leaving on 27. My best memory of that is powerful new plane in a rapid climb. Guess they didn't want to risk hitting Point Loma.
Hey Capt. Ern, super video. Loved that new, clean, large glass cockpit, wow ! Best I've been in so far is the 800 series, (we fly back and forth between TPA and BDL twice a year.) Was scheduled for a Max once but it was changed at the last minute. Boooo ! BTW, May 24th, this year. TPA. Horrific storm. Lightning all around. Firehose rain. 2nd in line out of five or six out on the tarmac waiting for TO clearance for TWO hours. PIC shut down engine #2 to save fuel. He was an excellent capt who kept us well informed and we had a grease job landing at Hartford/Springfield, (congratulated the crew upon deplaning!) "If it ain't SWA, I ain't flying". 👍👍👍
Thanks ernie really enjoyed that shut down of the max its interesting seeing the little things you Pilots do,so is the captain responsible and last of the plane and final intreior check,do you do a final exterior walk around ,im retired now but was an interstate Semi driver and your last duty was walk around the tru k/trailer looking for anything that needed to be reported to maintenance ,not that im comparing a Semi to a Max ,as always mate great and imformative Kym Adelaide
I love your UA-cam channel. And yes, your correct the weather in Colorado is bipolar. I currently live in Colorado, but I'm originally from California, and I sorely miss California, especially the weather. On a side note, i don't mind living in Arizona it's beautiful out there. Especially Glendale.
Great video as always captain. Looking forward to when you post the video that includes the film crews GoPro footage you told us about a couple days ago.
My fav captain! Cannot wait to fly a flight with Big Erin!! So kind, so helpful and courteous. If we all could be that and do that, this world would be such a better place! Safe travels Big Ern!
I've noticed that most of your trips on these blogs are west coast. Do you ever fly to the east coast, or is it just a thing where PHX based pilots get trips in certain regions?
Liked seeing the behind the scenes shut down procedure! Also glad you’re bringing food back into the vids lol looking forward to the return of that little heater pack thing from the early ones (nk)😬
Ern, if that was last Thursday 6/22, that storm dropped a tornado in Highlands Ranch, not far from KAPA (Centennial) in the south suburbs. Glad y'all got in and out safely! - Keep up the great work on the channel! I'm getting too old to switch careers to fly even though I'd love to!
G,day Captain "Big Ern" from Sydney Australia. I like the quality of the graphics on the LCD mapping (have you new Go-Pros)? The three indicated storm cells, where you altered route (track) to the North: did they converge? 🌏🇭🇲
INZEAIR84 records TO and landings. I imagine you would if u could. Any chance this is possible with SWA? I am grateful for your content, just throwing out a question.
I've been watching your videos since you picked up your SR22. Question for you, I"m considering going into ATP to be a pilot. In your opinion, will airlines still be looking to hire pilots in the next few years, or are you starting to see airlines hire less frequent. Thanks again for your videos.
Thank you for sharing. Yes, I agree about San Diego. I have loved our layovers there as well. Plus for me, I have family living there. I have always loved walking downtown in the Harbour area!! Nice!!
One time flying SWA from Boston to Denver we had to divert to Amarillo (I think it was Amarillo) to get more fuel because the weather in Denver was pretty bad and "they" wanted to make sure we had extra. Are "they" you pilots, or someone at the company who makes those decisions? I commuted to Boston RT from Denver twice a month back in the '80s mostly on UAL DC-8s and depending on the wind the trip back to Denver took anywhere from about 4 hours flat to 5:20 one time I think.
Hey Ernie, I rode on a MAX this past week out of Houston (on another airline). I was surprised by how anemic the airflow was from the gasper vents. It was hot & humid in Houston and so it was really noticeable. Is this something that you've experienced? I saw some mention of a low/high setting that was pilot selectable. Any insight?
I have seen people leave the battery switch on all night after cleaning and when I brake ride in the AM that's a problem . Great video. Had my Dad one time was told to wait on the plane in ONT for his WCH and he said I can walk out to the jet bridge and they told him no. He waited 30 minutes and that was the last flight of the night and everyone has left the aircraft and left him on. It wasn't WN but AS. Have a great vacation.
Going back a few years, I always brought my own coffee. To this day, I still have that Stanley thermos. I was a young FO, and it was the same thermos I took to the field with me when farming, working cattle etc.. its beat up, scratched, chipped, even a few dents. I received many free meals from CA’s who saw my thermos and assumed I must have had a long ride on the struggle bus to get there, and figured I could use some help. Actually, it was my grandfathers thermos before he gifted it to me when I started to like coffee. I have a dozen YETI’s and other nice ones that were freebies from seed salesmen and other vendors to the farm, but I usually grab the old Stanley.
I enjoyed the shut down explanation. Thanks again for another great video. I always learn something new! Cheers to your water!
Wow! this was such a good video. I really enjoyed all the bits like the switches and the walkthrough and checklist you did at the end. I hope you can do this more often!
Thank you, Sounds good! More to come 😁
Awesome video Ern! Please give us more of the ‘action’ before and after sterile cockpit like you did in this video. Super cool and fascinating to see.
Will do, thank you for watching 🤙

True. Denver is really like that.
Awesome video love them all ❤
Really loved that you did your flow and recorded it! Thank you Ernie! I’m also a huge foodie!
Glad you liked it, will make sure to show more 🤙

Love these little behind the scene shots of life as a Captain. Never knew you had to check the airplane for people left on board.
..thanks again for sharing Capt. Ern..but all these newest UA-cam updates.. have now turned off or hidden.. all my favorite new video posts..but still..keep em coming..
Another great video Big Ern! Thank you to you and all of your fellow pilots and flight attendants who keep us safe in the air. Love SWA!!!
Service San Diego to anywhere (SWA) in Arizona sucks. Always claimed "turbulence" so the flight attendants dont have to do much but sit on their behind!! Every time!!! 🤣🤣
Deja Blue? Isn’t that a JetBlue aircraft name? Gimme a Max ride to Austin with Big Ern. We’ll do some serious chowing down at The Salt Lick!!
Eh, brah, rockin' the koa/tungsten ring, you one island boy already. Mahalo for your vids they're all informative and entertaining!
The best UA-camr PIC pilot… hello from México 🇲🇽✈️
Could you imagine the implications of bringing a six pack of beer into the cockpit?? Immediate termination Im sure, lol.

Oh that is so cool. I just love those kind of stories. I just wish I could hug every old person 999 times and listen to there stories.
Shouldn't you be concentrating 100% on operating the aircraft, rather than vlogging?
Finally I find you dearest Ernie wish you a good captain pilot, I proud of you
This guy is my favorite captain 💯💯💯💯
Awesome video again Ernie, you really make flying look easy, but you operate professionally. Have a great week.
Keep drinking the water Ern!
Your vlogs are so interesting and entertaining.
I love this guy. He makes nervous flyers feel safe.
I too am a foodie Big Ern
It’s like tucking the airplane int bed.
I'm a Ramper in DEN and am always looking for you. Sorry I missed ya this time.
You do a great job with this channel. Very educational and spot on. Keep up the good work. You bring a bit more comfort to a nervous flyer.. Thank you
San Diego the best overnight no doubt. I could live at the Hilton Harbor Island.
Really interesting how you shutdown an airplane for the night, thanks for showing that.

Same. I so want to catch a flight with him!
Great video Captain Ern! I think it was one of the most informative ones you’ve done! ⭐️🛬
Love the videos , you should do some vlogging while flying in Autopilot and show us the views 😎
When I came out of the jetway a couple of weeks ago from NOLA, the BBQ smell hit me.First time changing in Austin for the final leg to OKC,.

The weather here in Denver has been bonkers this spring/summer. Heck, or tornado in the burbs two days ago. Hopefully see ya on a flight soon.
My birthday is complete with a Big Ern video to top off the night. Happy flying!
His birthday is right before mine.
Great content loved the explanation of the terminating checklist 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
First trip with SWA in a long while coming up!
RNO-PHX-ORD, going to Navy ROTC new student indoctrination!
Hey Ern, i was wondering are you flying on july 24th? to KSAN FROM KPHX Thats when i leabe for my birthday.
New Mexico has amazing food
Great video as always captain. Looking forward to when you post the video that includes the film crews GoPro footage you told us about a couple days ago.
Why not a video stressing frustrations, like the hundreds of other max pilots who were lied to by boeing, instead of just drinking the cool-aide?
As an increasingly nervous flyer whose worst nightmare is turbulence, I can't tell if knowing this stuff helps or not 😂
Have you tried the BBQ at new KMCI terminal yet? Meat Mitch Burnt Ends were pretty solid.
I LOVE THE SALTLICK IN Austin bergstrom❤
Love Harbor Island! Grew up in SD. Fly safe.
11:42 Oh my gosh, you remind me SO MUCH of a popular someone here😊🇺🇸
I am from Nepal and dreaming to be pilot one day. Your videos motivates me a lot…
Thank u
Wise words on being quiet leaving a hotel in the early hours Ern ! if only folk took your lead a bit more.
11:50
The FO was slacking after landing….😃
We just flew to San Diego from Sac on SWA and all I can say is, what an amazing Air line! Totally cool!!!❤
Are you allowed to divert into Mexican airspace to avoid weather?
San Diego is where I earned the title US Marine over at MCRD which is right next door to the airport!
In that cross sign with the fuel could you explain that?
My fav captain! Cannot wait to fly a flight with Big Erin!! So kind, so helpful and courteous. If we all could be that and do that, this world would be such a better place! Safe travels Big Ern!

I generally try to stay on the west coast to avoid jet lag. It really does hit me hard.
Thank you for sharing. I remember this storm going thru Denver. It made national news for ground stoppage.
I love your videos and im a ramp agent at bwi can i send you a kicktail
I want to become a pilot so bad
I love your videos Ernie! ❤❤
Love your videos and hope I an on one of your flights someday.
Thanks Ern, great video and love the MAX!
The flight map works kind alike an iPad.
Lol he's the light skinned airline version of Denzel

Why don't record the takeoff and landing?
Do you have to go out and do another walk around after hail?
Hey Ern I’m just about ready to solo with my flight training. Charlotte nc area.
Awesome!

Cool to see the terminating checklist. 👌
Happy 4th of July to you and your family.

What app do you use for your map on the iPad?
Scaring flying the max ?
What app do you use for weather forecast
That was a long day….at least you had a printer! BBQ would be amazing!
You got that right!
Salt Lick at KAUS is awesome
The Max looks really cool. Still haven't had a chance to fly on one yet.
I have. It's a sweet plane!
Cant wait for u to teach me to fly
Love your videos on the MAX!
I 💙 the MAX!
@@FlyingwithBigErn Me too! The LEAP's are like mini GE-90's haha
Your the man Ernie 💪🤙✊
What are the differences between ETOPS and non-ETOPS 737s? Why does SWA not maintain all their planes ETOPS capable?

Onward and upward!
Your iPad weather for Phoenix... 93°F/24°F... Ummmmm lol.
Temperature / Dew Point
@@sevargn747 I should’ve known that, cause 93°F is definitely over 24°C. 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
So cool to watch both as an avid flight sim player and I'm hoping of becoming an airline pilot for Air New Zealand!
Hey, Captain, first ingredient on this can I just open says water, fresh spring water. Of course there’s other ingredients lol.
