I was seriously watching Group B rally videos yesterday and I thought to myself it would be nice Donut Media did a video on the Audi Quattro. Lo and behold a day later you guys literally give me the gold. Love you guys to death!
Thank you so much for this video! Nerdy driving point: the rally Quattros were an absolute nightmare to drive quickly; they were really hard work - heavy and awkward and badly balanced. The turbo lag was terrible and drivers like Mikkola, Mouton, Rohrl and [the] Stig [Blomqvist] developed left-foot braking to overcome it. That's where and why it originated. Yes, really. The 4-wheel-drive transmission was so crude that rally rivals mocked it (until they started losing to it big-time in their rear-wheel-drive cars), calling it 'agricultural'. Audi were known for producing smooth, silent, efficient road-cars, but the works rally guys didn't give a toss; one proudly embraced the agricultural tag and described his Quattro as "The world's fastest tractor." (I was a club-level amateur rally driver during the Group-B period. Never got to drive one of the works monsters but had a lot of fun. All these years later, the Audi 5-cylinder in Group-B trim still produces the best engine sound I've ever heard. And I've heard a lot. They were getting 600bhp out of it towards the end of the era!)

I have a 1998 Audi A8 Quattro 4.2L it’s pretty nice
Likewise mine is a 99 tHougH
Lol it’s Funny you just commented cause it gave me a notification, and guess what, my bumper just got messed up and the parts are nonexistent anymore it’s gonna cost me 2300 dollars R.I.P. and they totaled the car even though it only has 90,000 miles on it
Yhh Fi damn yeah your best bet would be pick a parts but who wants used parts. Sorry to hear your loss homie I just hope the accident wasn’t your fault
Chubb Fatz yea it wasn’t my fault but I’m from Michigan and there is no fault, plus they totaled it but yea. I’m trying to find the parts but I don’t even know where to start 😵
Yhh Fi did you bend the frame?
"you guys are all named after dragons" lmaoo
Up to speed renault 5 turbo please
Don't hold your breath, the United States doesn't care about Renault.
Quattro so good it was banned from racing lmao
Nah the quicker cars that smashed it in 85/6 got group b banned
@@crztank9298
I think he meant the IMSA GTO, which Audi indeed was banned, because they just were better.
James doing these in high energy makes these so enjoyable
Do the lancia 037 next!
Griffin H you can watch entire Lancia 037 on Amazon Prime’s the Grand Tour, Jeremy Clarkson already covered the story between 037 vs Quattro
@@wrightladafoe.7525 and he did a damn good job

Being a linguist, I apreciate the message from 2:20, your honesty and your effort for trying.
Cheers
You all should build your own car, and then do an Up to Speed episode on yourself ;D
that's actually a nice idea...
The Pumphrey 502!
think this car has the best sound ever.
This video is fantastic just because in the background there is a incredible SAAB 900
I cant get enough of these vids. I'm practically in tears everytime
Can you make a video of peugeot 205 (gti, t-16, xs...)
Plz do Lancia :3
*1 2 3 QUATTRO!!!!!!*
Had an B5 BT A4 for 8 years! Loved just rolling mustang GTs and snow drifting! Also Volvo's I5 2.5L turbo is not slouch.
God, I almost shit my pants quattro times when the notification alert hitted. Thanks Donut 😘
Please do an Up to Speed on the Charger
Yeah! And they could add a few clips fRom Fast 5...my favorite Charger was in that movie
They need to!
As a German it’s always funny to hear Americans speak my language:D
Ja ich finde das ist lustig auch
Yeah, they can't make the 'scrape sound (like in guten tach) or the rrr sound (like in herr). Aufiderzein
For me, one of good thing about this whole ordeal is finding this Chanel that pays homage to the last bastion of primordial human expression, yet an engineering marvel. Death to the Internal Combustion Engine? Long live the ICE.
Nice SAAB.
Shoutout to the little sweed in the background. RIP😢
RIP Saab
1945-2011
I like when you smiled in the audience at the end James.
That was the only way to intro the audi i5. Well done.
