My grandpa had a Holden manaro when i went to visit them in Aus and i was in the car and asked him what it can do. He floored it and i sunk in my seat and once we stopped i threw up on the side of the road and he said “thats holden for ya” and started laughing

This was actually a really well done/researched video. I grew up enjoying Fords offerings more so than Holdens in Australia for the most part as despite the general consensus of Holden being 'Australian', Ford Australia produced their own bodies and engines for many years where Holden was more a bodyswap company for the most part.

Donut missed out the bit where the first European VB Commodore wasn't strong enough to tow a van without stretching. People hooked up the new van, set of for hols, stopped at the first fillup, and then couldn't close the back doors - as the body had stretched.

I once met Leo Pruneau, he came to our winery as a friend of a friend of my dad's. He was a pretty nice bloke. I didn't realise at the time who he was though, otherwise I would have fanboyed myself to death.

Great video. BTW it's Tom "Walkenshaw" Racing. Despite being an Aussie Ford fan, I respect Holden and its ventures. They made some very cool cars. The Sandman is lights out amazing! Holden also assembled the Japanese Izuzu compact sedan called the "Holden Gemini" which is a cult classic in Oz. Welded locked differentials, rear drive compact sedans with engines that LOVED a flogging were so much fun to drive. There needs to be a Video on the Gemini ❤

i bought 2001 commode vx aka chevrolet lumina in dubai i am still driving it in 2020 car is tough beast going to be 20 years with me it stood by me in good and bad times never gave any problems on road till date
yes dash has little cracks due to plastic and aging plus windows not working and locks jammed so using it manual but rest is great i hope it will give me few more years thanks holden for being part my life for 20yrs and going

Holden was and always will be, the Zeus of car manufacturers below the equator.
The Government refused to keep subsidising the local car manufacturers, so they left. It worked out okay, though - the Government's now subsidising defence manufacturers to build stuff instead!
That might be a bit of an exaggeration, the only people who were unhappy that Holden closed it's doors was a percentage of Holden customers who would buy dog shit if it had a Holden badge on it.
The writing was always on the wall here that the car industry was not profitable, so it wasn't really that shocking or upsetting for the vast majority of Aussies.

Dude, the first Bathurst race was 500 Miles (804 kms) . It later changed to 1000 KMs in 1973 when Australia went metric.

I'm Aussie and I think we've not made good cars for 30+ years. Fuck Holden honestly. When they started making big heavy slow cars and protested the rules of group 3A (now supercars) so that smaller foreign cars wouldn't keep wiping the floor with them (specifically Skylines), they lost any insentive to improve their cars and just kept making big heavy whales with big heavy engines to make up for it.
My aunt worked for Holdens till it’s last day she started 1990 ... she was the one who was trusted and in charge to sign off the final car in Australia... my dad used to work for holdens he became a boss and then left, my grandmother worked aswell

The GTS wasn’t the most powerful car to come out of Australia the 2016 GTSR W1 has 477kw (650hp) powered by an ls9, came in manual transmission, and came stock with Pirelli trofeo R tyres (the same tyres McLaren use in their p1)

A motor vehicle that is at least25 years old can be lawfully imported into theU.S. without regard to whether it complies with all applicable DOT Federal Motor VehicleSafety Standards (FMVSS).
In the US Navy I owned a 2004 Pontiac GTO that was a Holden Monaro with the legendary LS-1 V-8 engine. I got a compliment from an Aussie on my car so I officially am one of a few Americans to own an Aussie import!

For those about to use this as the source material for their homework: - Sir Laurence Hartnett was British.
- Leo Pruneau is American (although he lives here and now may be an Aussie citizen).
- The Bathurst 500 was 500 miles, not kilometres.
I'm sure there are other things. I'm just happy the young man is excited about Holden.

Was 500 miles back then. First Holden ( race bred ) was a EH S4 in 63 Not much upgraded but was 179 3 speed. 179 was only auto in 63 …Second was the 65 HD X2 179 Twin carbs headers (cast iron ) and a mild can ( so we’re told ) then the HR 66 series 2 had the 186S two bbl carb headers cam and 4 speed lsd which became the lowest GTS motor. Monaro did come out in a 161 tree on the tree. But yes. 68 the 327 saginor 4 speed and 10 bolt lsd diff .. yep. Then up we go

One other Holden we got in the US was the 2011-2017 Chevy Caprice, which was a rebadged Holden caprice that was only sold in the US as a police car.
That was fun to watch, like all Donut vids. Have to make a few corrections, though:
1. We had utes long before Holden started making them - Ford started building Aussie utes in 1934, the first Holden ute was made in 1951.
2. The Bathurst race was never 500 kilometres; originally it was 500 miles, then when we went metric it was extended to 1000 kilometres (about 620 miles).
3. Tom Walkinshaw, not Wilkinshaw
4. Nobody puts "shrimps on the barbie" - we call 'em prawns, and few people put them on the barbie anyway
OK, so now we've got that tedious stuff out of the way ...
The evolution of the Torana is remarkable. It was first released in 1967 as a small, economical shopping car with a 1200 cc 4 cylinder engine. By 1972 Holden were putting 6 cylinder engines in them, and people were racing them. Before long they'd morphed into 5-litre V8-powered Bathurst-winning monsters! Those were the days ...
Motor racing was always a great battle between Holden and Ford, especially with the early Monaro against the Falcon GTHO. The Toranas and early Commodores Gave Holden the edge, since they were smaller cars with big engines - but then came the turbo era with the Nissan GTR and the Ford Sierra the dominant players. The Walkinshaw Group A Commodore wasn't really competitive. Things didn't get fun again until the turbos were banned and Holden brought out the larger Commodore, making the Ford vs Holden match more even.

You guys should do one on the Australian designed and built Ford Falcon series which was the longest produced vehicle model in Australia and you guys would probably be pretty interested in the Ford Performance Vehicles (or FPV for short) V8 killer all Australian designed and built 4.0l DOHC 310kw turbo inline 6 Barra engine. Keep up the great work looking forward to more awesome stuff in the future!!

Since Holden became a subsidiary of GM in 1931, you could say it was GM stealing millions, but it was in actuality Holden, you know the car maker that designed and manufactured cars in Adelaide, South Australia, unless you want to say Holden wasn't Australian?
It's just because they were not selling enough cars as imported cars made in other countries were much cheaper to buy.
No Joe Hockey and Abbott stuffed it all and he had the Holden volt that Kevin Rudd asked them to make scrapped. As Rudd said if you need hand outs you need to come up with innovation for Australia so Holden pays the money back into economy as Liberals let overseas cars here with no taxes prior. Real reason Holden couldnt afford pay workers more because they only selling small percentage of Australian car sales. Which Australia missed out on building the first proper electric cars. Volt was built years before Telsa.

Noticed a few mistakes. It was Tom WALKINSHAW Racing, not Tom Wilkenshaw. Tom Walkinshaw Racing owned Arrows Formula One team for a number of years, and won Le Mans with factory backed Jaguars.
Also, the Group C A9X had 400bhp. The horsepower figure you stated was for the road version.

Holden is my favourite dead car builder. So many good cars, and I'm glad we got the ability to see some come across the Pacific to North America. The G8 and SS are my favourite sedans, The Monaro/GTO is amazing, and I love their mentality of put more horsies in the hood. We'll miss you Holden. Glad Forza introduced you to me.
Most Americans did not know what Holden was until the GTO came out. When people started saying, “it’s just a rebadged Holden” then everyone was like, “hold on, what’s Holden” the rest is history. I wish we got more Aussie cars.
