Amazing. The Audi Quattro and the 5cyl engine is the reason why I always wanted an Audi. But apart from the last bit in the S1 rally car, your sound equipment didn’t really capture the sound of those 5 cylinder engines. But great to see those cars together.
This was grossly unfair on the other cars: the original S1 was from Group B - nothing has ever matched them in pure horsepower, and a drag race was just playing into the car's hands. My only doubt before watching was top speed, as rally cars are geared for acceleration rather than outright maximum speeds, but the car still thrashed everyone. An absolutely wonderful car. I almost feel sorry for the other cars in the S1's company. Now then, a drag race between an S1, S4, and T16E2, on the other hand...

I owned a 1989 quattro turbo almost identical to that white one and i loved it, £32k new. I think David Gower bought the sister to it.The highlight of my years of owning it was driving down to austria alongside a friend in his integrali which was the original demonstrator for Lancia. Good days. There was nothing much in the performance except the Integrali was a tad quicker off the mark but used loads more fuel. I've got a great pic of us both on the bottom of a ski slope. The downside was in normal use the Audi wipers lifted off the screen over 70mph and the front end was rubbish in the wet unless you drove it like Stig and then it really surprised you. I then had an S2 which was faster and more refined. I still wish I had the quattro though. Sounded lovely on full chat.

Mat thank you so much for this insane video!
Would like to see more of the old treasures. Or something like an Audi 100 4,2 S4 vs. BMW E34 540i vs. Mercedes W124 400E.
All of my favorite audis in one video😬keep up the good work💪💪👍👍
Causally a lineup of my dream cars
i miss my black Audi GT 😭
the clutch gave out at 170,000 km so it got upgraded, then changed half exhaust system for that sweet 5 cyl sound. black/toned rear lights to complete the black look. kept it otherwise stock. loved it to bits!
Imagine looking out of your window and just seeing all of these awesome old school quattros ripping it
Matt's reaction to the rally car revving was priceless... 👍🏻😂
Always gonna be priceless and epic.
Love the RS2 in blue. Got surprised with poor performance in that race. Old quattro's for the win ! Unrestricted 5 pots 👍🧨
DKLuke1, i think the RS2 got slower drag time than even the Skyline R32GTS.
@@purwantiallan5089 I think i could take it in my 15year old diesel Volvo 🤣
@@DKLuke1 well it was puffing out blue smoke lmao ofc its not gonna be fats when the engine is fked
Certainly one of the best videos on this channel! Thank you!
This is why I own an RS3. The SWB Quattro Sport. Love it.
Audi is a legend🏁
Well, for everyday use, I'd have the RS2. Once it's been fixed..
3:54 audi RS2 avant's exhaust smoking in the background.
Amazing. The Audi Quattro and the 5cyl engine is the reason why I always wanted an Audi. But apart from the last bit in the S1 rally car, your sound equipment didn’t really capture the sound of those 5 cylinder engines. But great to see those cars together.
I am an Audi fan and i am very happy to wish Audi 45 years of making 5 cylinder engine cars
Wow
As a car manufacturer I would be so embarrassed to still use a 45 yo engine and scam my customers...
Keep the series coming 🔥🔥
MrHushCrush, i think this drag race deserved to get S.
Still waiting for Mat & Yanni running drag race to this date.
No one cares, move on
Maybe in August 2024, Saket.
Used to love seeing that exact group b rally car in MK everytime I went training for my apprenticeship with Audi. Insane car!
Crikey that old rally car really gets going! Sounds amazing as well.
race starts 4:30
Thx man
This was grossly unfair on the other cars: the original S1 was from Group B - nothing has ever matched them in pure horsepower, and a drag race was just playing into the car's hands.
If you wanna be successful, you most take responsibility for your emotions, not place the blame on others. In addition to make you feel more guilty about your faults, pointing the finger at others will only serve to increase your sense of personal accountability. There's always a risk in every investment, yet people still invest and succeed. You most look outward if you wanna be successful in life.

Sounded lovely on full chat.
what a fabulous drag race that was. Absolute brilliant cars. I had a 10valve wr quattro and sold it 4 years ago. It got pointed at, and thumbs up all the time.
Is the RS2 supposed to be that slow, or is it broken?
Def something wrong with it
obviously, it's broken. RS2 is a pretty fast car.
13-14 sec suppose to ge the time for rs2
There is definitely something wrong with that RS2
TT RS would be a fine addition to this drag race!
Not the same lineage. Transverse mounted engine and not real quattro AWD.
11:18, But if there is one thing I'd really, really liked to have seen is a tuned Volvo 850R and Ford Focus RS, 5 cylinder in that line up.
Hello Mat. I'm pretty sure Porsche is pronounced with the "e" at the end. All the best! Love your channel.
Which of these cars would I prefer?
Duh... I would prefer the 1,7m one. What question, Mat...
Then I would sell it and buy 34 50k cars with it. (Yes, I am cheap. Don't judge.)
The Audi turbo 5 cylinder turbo has his Start in 1979........ (2 years after saab) so that are 45 years????? And next time try something older like the Audi 200 5T 170 HP when you celebrating in anniversary
Loved the video, best part is the last minute when you get in the Group B Audi, just amazing, would like to see a lap in it...
I've owned two of these, a 10 valve UR quattro & a lovely S2 coupe. I loved them both but now I would love an RS6 Avant but I doubt it'll ever happen. Thanks for the memories. 👍
I’m watching this video while driving an Audi A6 Allroad Quattro on the german autobahn with the adaptive cruise control and advanced lane keeping assist on. What an amazing video!
My friend Neal had an RS2 for a good few years . Bought it for £ 16 K ish and sold it for
£ 40 ish .
I got to work on it a bit , servicing and refurbished the Porche brake calipers and did some suspension component replacement.
Got to drive it a fair bit ( luckily ) , fantastic car , very fast .
He also had a 1956 Oval Sunroof Beetle with a 190 Hp 2276 cc Weber 48 IDA carburettored engine with a built close ratio gearbox . I built the Beetle for another friend and Neal purchased it and continued it's development.
The Oval Beetle ran 13.2 on street tyres ( 12.64 at Santa Pod on slicks )
On the street with either of us in either cars driver seat , we would be side by side from launch to 70 and on a private road up to 130 mph ( Beetles top speed with the close ratio gearbox.
The RS2 hauled ass , deffo something wrong with the heritage one in this test .
His Beetle

This easily proves that this is the Most Wanted and Appreciate Car YT channel out there.
12:30 This reminds me *David and Goliath* 😂😂😂
Steve from Audi Heritege Centre just launches that rally car like it's no one's business :D Absolutely nuts~~ I mean having 500 HP in a manual rally car is not easy to control, but Steve just does it so well.
That Group B Rally Quattro... the turbo whistle... just awesome...
One of the best drag races I’ve seen in this channel 🙌🏾
Quattro S1 was a monster...still don't know how those group b drivers managed to control these machines on those rally stages..
Imagine driving one of those in the 80's - mental
Absolutely brilliant what a awesome drag race comparing some of Audi's most iconic Quattro machine. The Audi Quattro S1 Rally machine is one hell of a machine. Thank you Audi Heritage for lending Matt Watson from CarWow to show case the incredible Audi RS models.
That turbo 'chatter' from the Group B Audi is SO distinct. If you heard it coming up behind you there would be no doubt you'd recognise it and already be grinning as you turn to see it!
Brilliant race! Awesome collection of legendary Audis. Well done
