As I have said before, when the tech starts to be nearly equal across the board....weight is KING.
Weight is always king… we just have had a handful of years where foam resiliency made up for it… that ended last fall with the Evo 1.
@@SagasuRunningagreed. The new asics Paris line up made that clear too. They still have a good amount to go, but other than the big 2, asics is the next in line. Hoka coming out with the Cielo X1 is a joke
@@SagasuRunning The fascinating thing is that Adidas' original strategy was to go flyweight with the Adios Sub2 but Nike went for new foams with a stabilizing plate. The Nike formula was to have a slightly heavier shoe but a more efficient foam and that was the winning solution for this generation. Now we are back to mass as the next frontier while preserving the resilience somehow.
Asics always nails the details… it just takes them a few years to get there usually. They are well on their way. The Paris series was the upgrade their super shoes needed!
But everyone has the foam/plate this dialed now, some better than others, and efficiencies are there for many runners… so if they can be maintained and the right can be brought back to and under the ultra lightweight race flats back in the day… even better. However there will have to be trade offs… the Evo 1 is a glimpse at the future.
I really love Sagasu Running. This channel is very honest and has a pure passion on running world especially on shoe reviews and literatures. ❤
Thank you for the support. 🤙🏻
It was kind of ironic that I thought one of the original ideas of the shoe rules was to ensure elites and the rest of us could use the same shoes. Instead, as you say, we saw a fair amount of Evo 1s which are nigh on impossible for regular runners to get even if you have the cash and has any ShoeTuber covered an Anta shoe. Quick look at their website and the Bekele race shoe does not seem to be available to buy yet. When it is looks like will only got to a US 12.5 so even likes of EddBud may struggle. Early on I saw a sea of female pacemakers in Alphafly 3s. Doubly ironic that Bekele reportedly never much cared for Alphaflys and didn't he always wear Vaporflys when still with Nike.
you could buy as many c10 pros as you want here in china.
Ya, Bekele was all Vaporfly all the time. I don’t know if I ever even saw him in a VF3…
I did notice two female pacemakers in VF3s at the start but never saw them again in photos the rest of the race.
Anta is VERY sporadic getting product out of China. Even if you want them the C10 Pro is between $400-499 USD depending on the source. There are just a handful or reviews of them on English UA-cam… though their Basketball shoes are getting some reviews lately due to some big name NBA signings.
I'd always hope that Sagasu would review some Chinese super shoes since, I think, he is currently in Taiwan. The likes of Anta C202 GT, Xtep 160x Pro, 361° Flame are available online from where I'm from, but most of us are speculative about the performance and fit since there are very few reviews available.
@@tulabingallen8440 yeah and the "Bekele shoe" now ought to generate some real interest.
@@TimGrose Bekele used the Anta C10 Pro. It's quite hard to find, and from what I've read, it's designed as a 5k to 10k racer.
Curious to see your Vaporfly V3 video..
Working on it. It’s something I’ve been thinking about for a while now.
I was there and was surprised to see so much lack of Nike.
there were loads alphafly 3 in the club runners
interesting the differences
I suspect because you can buy the AF3, specially in the UK which seems to get every Nike shoe in every colorway frequently. The Evo1 is much more rare.
The upper... oh the upper, if it would be just more comfortablethe the Adios Pro 3 would be a no brainer, always.
After 25km+ I just cant stand it anymore for anything shorter I love that shoe. Only shoe I tried 3 different laces and swapping socks all the time. You can find a "its okay sport" - but it feels for me that I never get the sweetspot.
In Asics, Saucony, Li-Ning or even Hoka I slip in, lace up and go.
I'm excited how long this dominance will hold on. All a matter of money of course - as ON perfectly shows.
I ask myself where they all get the Vaporfly 2's... cant find it anymore in my size lol
It looks as if the upper on the next Adios Pro has been streamlined and solved. The upper on the Evo C… is similar to the TS10…. Happy days ahead for Addias fits.
At this point I’m wondering if Nike will release new colorways of the VF2….
Adidas is great but the comfortable lacing is such a time and mood consuming puzzle..
@@SagasuRunning nvm I found them on StockX for 150-200bucks in huge numbers.
A Re-Release would be a classic Nike Move indeed.
@@424dsfdsfdsfs Amen the only shoe EVER got lace bites constantly or a hurting midfoot if the laces are just a bit too tight, or heel slip if just a bit too lose... sigh...
Adidas Adizero laces are notorious for being awful.
Both the men's & women's finishes were outstanding.
Agree. Excellent racing in London. Great fun to watch. One of the best races I’ve seen in a while.
@@SagasuRunning 👍
AP3 lover here. Minority report: Best upper fit I ever ecperienced. I can literally run in this shoe without lacing it up. Pulling tight and stuffing in is enough. Zero heelslip or instability. It"s on the pleasantly tight side though and 90% of people would probably have bought a half size up.
Reason for my comment: If in doubt about the AP3 and its fit, try a half size down. Unusually snug feeling, but once in motion awkwardness turns to bliss for me.
Not to discard anyone's experience, if y'all can't make it work for yourselves it probably just doesn"t.
Wow… I’m not sure about this. Given the vast majority of people have problems with the eyelet anchors around the knuckles of the toes, going down half a size will reduce the volume even more cause more problems. Too big allows for too much foot movement though.
I wear mine TTS and they “fit” correctly… it’s just the design of the upper is so very misguided… but I have found a sock that allows me to run in them pain free and I’m happy I have… because the beauty of the midsole! So so worth the effort.
I find the AP3 fit perfectly fine true to size (13 US). The lockdown is perfectly fine without any heel slip. They are pretty wide for a race fit and there is more forefoot volume than I need. I can wear them with winter socks even.
That sounds like a shoe that is too large, especially a race shoe.
The issue with the Vaporfly 3 is the upper. The midsole feels good, and the grip is better than the vaporfly 2, but the upper has way too much room. Even if I go 2 sizes down the upper lays and folds like a duvet or a tent on top of my toes. I have never struggled more to lace a shoe than the VF3. This is the case for most sub-elite and elite runners I have talked to as well.
There seems to be a tiny minority of people who loves the new upper, and the extra space inside it, and I envy them because I really like the VF3 midsole and grip.
I’m fully that tiny minority then as the VF3 upper firs me like a glove and is one of the best uppers I can possibly remember for my foot. Completely problem free. The VF2 upper was one that always gave me issues… and I loved the VF1 upper quite a bit though it was harsh for anything other than racing.
The VF3 issue is some the fit but there are other issues keeping the Elites off of it en masse….
@@SagasuRunning Very interesting! I also struggled abit with the vf2 upper at first. When I squeeze the zoomx foam in the vf1 and 2 the foam feels more 'dry' and slightly more dense compared to the zoomx in the vf3. I look forward to learn more from your video in the making!
There is definitely a difference in the foam… it does seem to matter overall for the ride too.
Is it possible to review the Anta C10 pro?
Very very unlikely…. especially given here in Taiwan the brand is very unpopular and if you can find them they are usually always fakes.
Also the C10 Pro retails for round $400-499 USD….
@@SagasuRunning crazy price for an anta!🤯
@@bobotmeister It's not really the real price. Anta sets there USD/western price ridiculously high...not sure why, but that is what they do.
@@SagasuRunning probably because of the US sanctions on trade 😅
@bobotmeister Im not sure…but I think their logistics outside of China and parts of SE Asia are very weak. Their basketball shoes sell at normal prices and are commonly found in the US.
I’m extremely excited for the puma deviate nitro elite 3
I’m excited for the Puma Devite Nitro 3…. On the fence about the Elite 3 though.
@@SagasuRunning if it’s the same compound in the Fast R 2, it should be better in theory right? I need a durable fast shoe with a decent amount of stack for racing / training on track and light trails so It might be perfect for me since the outsole is solid!
@Crose46 the Fast-R has two Nitro Elite compounds. But yes, it’s one of them. It does sound like it could be your shoe for that use case. Not many other options out there for that.
I’m sure I saw a couple of elites in Vaporfly V1 too. Speaking of which I’ve just managed to get a pair of V1 off eBay for £100. Not tried V3 yet.
I saw one Elite man in VF1s on the start line but couldn’t find any photos of him after that. I didn’t see any female Elites in them… all VF2s and one or two VF3s on female pacemakers…
@@SagasuRunning From the video replays it looks like Alemu was in the VF Next% 1 (Ekiden white/blue/yellow)
Be brilliant if they reissued them and would be extremely popular but can’t see it happening
That’s the one.
Honestly, I can’t either… however given how many elites are now going for them… added the VF2 to a colorway pack would be an easy way to “rerelease” without actually “rereleasing”…
The Adidas Evo 1 showed its not a gimic..
It definitely did. Weight is the next super shoe battle ground. I’ll have a video on that in May.
Yes weight is important but look at the athletes wearing them, that's the main differentiator.
Of course… but I’m a shoe nerd and this is a shoe nerd channel… it’s what we discuss. But yes, the athlete is what ultimately matters.
But at the margin between elite athletes the gear does matter. There was a time when only runners with Nike Vaporfly were winning everything. People called them “cheaterfly” and it prompted a race to clone the technology and rules changes.
As a mid-pack, middle aged runner it was clear that the original Vaporfly 4% made a substantial difference vs the Streak 6. Like you could measure lower HR to maintain a given pace.
Contrast that with a Streak LT 2 vs a Streak 6. The LT felt great for intervals, hill repeats and so light. But faster only in a subtle way and not so easily measured vs the regular Streak. I ran a mountain half in a Streak LT and a year later I used the Vaporfly 4%. These are not totally comparable because the conditions the first year were rain. But the Vaporfly was undeniably faster even though it was heavier. This is a race condition that favors weight savings where it is mostly running up hill and switchbacks with a fast couple of k downhill to the finish.
Depends what you mean as a good day. Elites, yes, but they’re not advertising a shoe people will really buy. I ran it and I saw more Nikes than anything else put together. Some adidas but no evo1s! Plenty of alphafly3. And yes, I wore Nikes too.
In these videos I cover the Elites and their shoes because it’s fascinating to me. However, I understand stand it’s a totally different race in the middle of the pack. I had a similar experience last year in NYC.
But the Elites are the tip of the spear… what trickle down to everyday runners over time. I’m agree with you that Nike still has the masses running marathons… if that ever switches into Adidas favor (again) too… then they will be worried.
In countries like Venezuela and Colombia the most used racing shoe is the adios pro 3 since te last year and today for elites and amateurs two years ago were vaporflys and alphaflys not anymore
@@cesarzoghbi4695 interesting to know!
PB in London 3:17:26, VF2
Was this over the weekend or in the past?
@@SagasuRunning over weekend
@markoljustina Congratulations! Well done!
@@SagasuRunning thank you
This is the first time I'm hearing about brand Anta. Are they US exclusive company?
Edit: According to Wiki, they are from china but some reason I can only see US store. I guess outside the China they are only shipping to North America.
They are the largest sportswear and sporting equipment company in China. I believe they are the third largest in the world behind Nike and Adidas. However, getting any of their product outside of China is very challenging and usually not worth the price you need to pay. Basketball is about the only thing they have established in NA due to some big name NBA players.
@@SagasuRunning They have retail stores in the Philippines and have carbon plated shoes for around $100 brand new.
Yup… but not here in Taiwan. Also they make a range of CF plated shoes… there are some in that price range.
They do sell product into Africa. At least apparel. I have an Anta technical T that was swag from a race in Zimbabwe.
So no podium finish for Nike in either men or women in such a high profile race, isn’t it a small disaster for them one could think of? Especially given that AF3 is their newest pinnacle marathon shoe, yet we saw two generations of Adidas Pro beat it now. Or did Nike simply not have some of their best runners competing in London? I don’t know, but that would be strange if they didn’t make sure they have a chance to win a major.
It comes down to what athletes are there for a brand. With Nike it’s also NnRunning. The winds have shifted very suddenly back into Adidas favor after years of Nike dominance. I’m shocked how sudden it has been.
whoa, adidas did really well... 😲 surprising for bekele leaving nike.
Surprising all around actually. A great race.
$500 dollar Adios Evo Pro for the elites, not for regular folk like us. 🤷♂️
For what that shoe is, $500 is cheap. Adidas is also much better about getting the Evo 1 to market… than Nike with the AF3.
@SagasuRunning maybe cheap for you, but not for me. Five hundred dollars for a shoe to only be worn for one marathon is too rich for my blood. Adidas is making a limited supply to reel in fascinated customers who are easily tempted to buy this shoe due to its limited demand. This is a marketing strategy, and for Adidas, it's working very well. I'll stick to a cheaper Nike shoe that I could get more miles in than just one marathon.
This is the thing. The Evo 1 is NOT a general running shoe. It is NOT intended for average runners. It is NOT made for everyone.
Think of the Evo 1 as a bleeding edge product, similar to an F1 car. It is for elite athletes, or non-elite athletes who have a goal and want to min/max every possible thing to achieve that goal. For that type of performance…$500 is cheap and worth it. If you value said goals at that level (many do not).
Do you NEED the Evo 1? Nope. Very few do. Adidas has many other shoes that are far cheaper and can work 99% as well for most runners.
I have multiple videos on the channel exploring this with the Evo 1. I even have one, from a few ml the back, exploring the true cost of the Evo 1… $500 is very much a money loosing prospect for Adidas.
