You have done so much good, and free advertising in your videos for the image of the BVIs, MarineMax, and Aquila. They should all step up and share the cost to repair and bring back the Hillbilly as a gesture of good will to you and your family for all you have done.

I loved your videos and adventures with your dream boat - yes, there gave been some and this includes the learning process for your boat. This stupid accident destroyed a lots of you and your families dreams and this is sad for all of you ( if you just have a little bit of heart and understanding). I trust you had many nights thinking all over and over again and why .... . I will not say anything about your insurance claim - as this is the style of some if them, as sad and frustrating it is. What I hope for you, don't make the mistake if your heart still with boating to go back there - you're getting fast 😢 older like all of us. My family had a boat and I spend all my holidays on it with my partner and friends, as my father knows I take care. Later on we sold it because of too much worl load in our factory and after I wasn't able to visit friends on their boats as I missed my years on ours. It took me around 20 years, working in Hongkong for 20 years to go back to boating and bought a Chinese chunk, which was great for our private weekends to enjoy HK waters and islands ( they are great ! )but as well.welcomed my customers. Now retired, not in HK anymore, no boat/yacht around, but still.love the memories. I would say, jump, jump high or higher, don't wait too long as you will suffer later on. Only if you can manage it easily financially as boating isn't cheap at all - but this you know. Hope to see you on the water again with just another dream of you. Good luck

Sad it happened, hope you can wrangle some sort of settlement with insurance and with the salvage bandits. I hope you go for another Wandering Hillbilly sometime, you learned so much about what makes a great cruising catamaran from the first one I'm sure you could end up with a superlative Wandering Hillbilly on the next one.

There is a lot to be said for chartering vs. owning. (I speak as the owner of a 44' monohull. Ka-ching, ka-ching.) That said, owning your own boat is like having a child. She is a living entity. You feel her, communicate with her, and are one with her when on the water. I share your distress, and wish you, and Hillbilly, a full recovery. And, I patiently await your next episode.

This may bring little consolation, but at least the Wandering Hillbilly (Aquila 54) will live on forever, in the wonderful videos you produced from your past adventures. Just the other day I was thinking about you and yours. I went to the Miami boat show and one of the boats had an engine failure and called out a Pan Pan to get towed in by a Salvage Co. A few days later this boat was seized. Come to find out the company had to pay 40% of the value of the vessel to the Salvage Co. To get the vessel unseized. This has been a maritime law that goes back long ago. I call it legalized Piracy. I'm glad you're going to put together a video that tells your story about the ordeal. I'm sure it will raise some eyebrows. Good luck with this hellish ordeal. Your upcoming trip is something I thought about.

Sorry to hear the almost final outcome. Sounds like bad faith on the part of your insurance company.
I really enjoyed your behind the curtain looks into boating, and believe me I’ve looked at every catamaran 70’ to 80’ and they are impressive. I’ve decided that a catamaran doesn’t really fit my projected needs and have narrowed it down to an explorer yacht with trans Atlantic (possibly Pacific) capabilities. But, that doesn’t mean I haven’t learned some valuable information from your adventures and boat ownership.
I really appreciate the effort you put into producing the videos. Hope you get back on that horse in the future, and know that you’ll be a wiser and more knowledgeable captain from your experiences with the Hillbilly.
Thanks again (that train trip sounds interesting, I’ve actually been looking into some trips in a private rail car).

I’m truly sorry for your loss. You have as good an attitude about it as could be possible. Living to tell the tale and more to come.

Bro, I truly feel for you as the pain and heartache of this ordeal is obvious in your demeanor even after "taking some time to heal". Praying that you and your wife get some positive resolution soon and looking forward to seeing your next adventure(s). Keep up with the BVIs at least until me and my wife can join you guys on a future flotilla!

One of the things I love about this channel, besides the adventures you share is your transparency. Thanks for thanking your bad times to use them as teaching tools for others. The future is bright for you, your wife and family. No matter what your decision is regarding getting a new boat I will continue to follow this channel. Blessings to you and the family.

WOW - you put sooo much heart and soul into the Hillbilly and your channel and videos. You have helped so many people (including myself) with Charter tips and boating tips by sharing your experience. Then also - a year younger next year. After seeing and hearing your life changing video, I too made changes. I just purchased a cabin cruiser as a weekender on a local lake to use as a second home to get my wife up to speed on boat living. Love your positive attitude and advice. As one chapter closes, another opens. Cheers Captain!!
