I love when people say “it must be nice”. I always say it is nice because you can take the same vacation I do and have what I have but you choose different paths than my wife and I. After years of sailing the BVI, we went to the Exumas this past winter. This was ALL because of YOUR videos. We didn't even know the Exumas existed as a sailing destination. Also know what it was like to build our own success. Grateful to live in a place where hard work does pay off. Keep the videos coming sir!
@@jaybangert1066 hi Jay, so we used a charter group out of the Bahamas. Things that stuck out in comparison to the BVI: lots of coral heads! Tons. So you have to be comfortable motoring, or sailing, around coral heads in 12 feet of water. Sometimes less. If you are good with that then head five hours south (sailing time) to the areas in the Exumas you have heard about on Alan’s prior videos. We loved Stanley cat where you could do the James Bond grotto right off the boat and then dinghy up to the pigs. The food at the local pub was great too. You have to do Warderick Wells as the hiking and views and anchorages are incredible. Definitely don’t miss Shroud Cay and floating from the west side to the east. My fave! So much to see and do!
I was told at 18 that if you surround yourself with losers, you'll be a loser. If you surround yourself with successful people, you'll be successful. 25 years later I find myself reaching goals I never thought possible, surrounded by some of the most successful people out there. I owe it all to working my ass off with people who have similar goals and an old man who didn't accept excuses. Happy motoring and continued success my friend!

Kuddos to you for sharing them and addressing them. We constantly get negative comments on our vacation vlogs and I just delete them as they come in. Also, my abusive father passed away when I was 11 and my mom worked her butt off in a fish factory to make we had a roof over our head. Ashley and I have worked our tails off to be able to afford to travel as often as we do and give our 3 sons a life some people would dream about. I don't know you, but it doesn't take a lot to tell that you are self made, happy, and enjoying this stage of life. So you have some money. I would certainly hope so. Interesting to see how different of an experience watching the same video can be thru another humans lens. One is inspired, while another feels less. I feel your approach has been extremely even keeled :) and never a flaunting of wealth. I also live in California, boat in bahamas/fl area. As you know, even with an incredible brand new yacht like yours, you can be dwarfed by the size and cost of other yachts around you, depending on the marina. A big trick in life seems to be being happy with what you have aka, taking ownership of where you are. Hope you keep it up! I have really enjoyed your videos.
We just discovered your channel before our trip to the Exumas on our 48 Leopard. Your itinerary was amazing, we followed every step and absolutely loved it! By day 2 “find a beach and make it your own” was our mantra, lol. We really appreciate your videos. Even though we are experienced boaters, it’s always great to learn from others. Great video! You’re right, success is much more than a large balance in your bank account. Also, congrats on all your achievements! I came from a background as you did where I had to earn every penny. And yes, I get some of the same treatment as you get from those who think everything was simply handed to me. I work my ass off for what I have and desire. There’s a saying “Some lay in bed and dream while others get up out of bed to chase their dreams”.

I'm sorry people can be shitty, even if it's only 5%. Up until a few years ago, we didn't know what zinks were either, but we're on our boat every weekend, and with the help of other boaters, we learn something new all of the time. My father was successful, he grew up in an orphanage in West Philly in the 1930's and had not a dime when he reached 18 and got out. But in their middles ages, my parents vacationed every winter in the USVI-he earned it!!! He measured his success by how much his 3 kids loved him. ❤ Love your videos, Hillbilly and looking forward to more!! One ❤ BVI Strong!!

There are plenty of cruisers on small sailboats living their best life on a shoestring. #Sailing GBU just wrapped up 3 months in the BVI on a $5,000 boat they fixed up themselves. Likely they are as happy with their boat as you are with your Aquila but I suspect you might be maybe a little jealous they got to spend 3 months in the BVI and you had to go back to work. ;-)

Enjoyed the video, sadly people get jealous. Yachts, well obvious statement is obvious. But boating can be for everyone. Plenty of cheap boat build videos out there for inspiration Many of which are more than capable of crossing over to the Bahamas and spending time there. Under 35 ft, the fee is 300 bucks from what I read. Otherwise pretty much normal boat and living expenses. It may not be surf and turf. But a bologna sandwich or hotdogs and chips in the Bahamas is still in the Bahamas.
I surely do enjoy the boat vids, but this was one of your best (for the channel), in my humble opinion! Bitter and stupid is worse than Covid or the plague ever was....! But fun to hear you address them directly - I wish more people would. You are living my dream and I'm only about a decade behind you so look out! God Bless and keep up the good work!

I recently started watching your channel and find it so entertaining and educational. My wife also enjoys watching so that should say allot about your videos! We love boating and the BVI's so lots in common and we too are a little more mature in years so we relate well to many of your conversations/jokes and situations. Social media can be such a blessing but it is fill of negative people who hide behind a keyboard to throw hatred and discontent. Eventually, Social Media will be the downfall of society but that is a whole other topic for another time. Keep doing what you are doing and do not pay any attention to the negativity. We are currently in the process of purchasing a 40-50ft MY so hopefully we will see you on the water in the near future!

The "It must be nice" shit is really infuriating. Don't know about you, but there were years where my wife and I ate beans, hamburger helper, with maxed out credit cards and house mortgaged to make payroll. Eventually we rounded the corner and life got a little easier.

Wealth is always subjective imo, there will always be people that could buy us tens or hundreds of times over. I'd love to have a boat like yours somedayOn the other hand, there are people that can't pay their bills and have no idea how they will eat next week. Sucess is earned, worked hard for, and in many times requires you to pick yourself up, not feel sorry for yourself, and try to make smarter decisions in the future.

Tough guys like to hide behind keyboards. They wouldn't dare say it to someone's face and they are usually just bitter because they dont have it and are miserable. I have a nice boat and I have everything I want, but I also work full-time and even doordash at night to be able to afford the nicer things. some people would rather shoot their mouth off than understand the hard work it takes.
I remember as a child that my mom dished up my dinner but nothing for herself. I didn't understand that at the time we could afford enough food. Our orchard had been decimated by hail 3 years in a row so no income for 3 years. My mom was a legend. This gave me the motivation to push myself as you have. I'm 65 now and live a comfortable life like yourself. Some people will try to bring you down to their level because they are too lazy to rise up. BTW I love your videos.
I thought that the pursuit of happiness was part of the American ethos, everyone’s happiness goals are different and yours is as sacrosanct as the next persons. The breadth of boat types and ways to enjoy those boats is immense, so if you are in a position to have a nice boat and enjoy it with family and friends that’s fabulous. I am Nearing 50 and starting to think about retirement or after 60 life. Yacht living has becoming appealing to me and spending time in the Caribbean is a shared idea between my wife and I. Your videos about the process has become a "how to" learning experience. I am a fan of Aquilas, which makes your videos more interesting. Great video! You’re right, success is much more than a large balance in your bank account. Also, congrats on all your achievements! I came from a background as you did where I had to earn every penny. And yes, I get some of the same treatment as you get from those who think everything was simply handed to me. I work my ass off for what I have and desire. There’s a saying “Some lay in bed and dream while others get up out of bed to chase their dreams”.

I'm sorry people can be shitty, even if it's only 5%. Up until a few years ago, we didn't know what zinks were either, but we're on our boat every weekend, and with the help of other boaters, we learn something new all of the time.
My father was successful, he grew up in an orphanage in West Philly in the 1930's and had not a dime when he reached 18 and got out. But in their middles ages, my parents vacationed every winter in the USVI-he earned it!!! He measured his success by how much his 3 kids loved him. ❤

There are plenty of cruisers on small sailboats living their best life on a shoestring. #Sailing GBU just wrapped up 3 months in the BVI on a $5,000 boat they fixed up themselves. Likely they are as happy with their boat as you are with your Aquila but I suspect you might be maybe a little jealous they got to spend 3 months in the BVI and you had to go back to work. ;-)

Enjoyed the video, sadly people get jealous. Yachts, well obvious statement is obvious. But boating can be for everyone. Plenty of cheap boat build videos out there for inspiration Many of which are more than capable of crossing over to the Bahamas and spending time there. Under 35 ft, the fee is 300 bucks from what I read. Otherwise pretty much normal boat and living expenses. It may not be surf and turf. But a bologna sandwich or hotdogs and chips in the Bahamas is still in the Bahamas.
I surely do enjoy the boat vids, but this was one of your best (for the channel), in my humble opinion! Bitter and stupid is worse than Covid or the plague ever was....! But fun to hear you address them directly - I wish more people would. You are living my dream and I'm only about a decade behind you so look out! God Bless and keep up the good work!

I recently started watching your channel and find it so entertaining and educational. My wife also enjoys watching so that should say allot about your videos! We love boating and the BVI's so lots in common and we too are a little more mature in years so we relate well to many of your conversations/jokes and situations. Social media can be such a blessing but it is fill of negative people who hide behind a keyboard to throw hatred and discontent. Eventually, Social Media will be the downfall of society but that is a whole other topic for another time. Keep doing what you are doing and do not pay any attention to the negativity. We are currently in the process of purchasing a 40-50ft MY so hopefully we will see you on the water in the near future!

The "It must be nice" shit is really infuriating. Don't know about you, but there were years where my wife and I ate beans, hamburger helper, with maxed out credit cards and house mortgaged to make payroll. Eventually we rounded the corner and life got a little easier.

First, thanks for sharing your adventures with us all, they inspire us no matter what station in life we've achieved. Wealth is always subjective imo, there will always be people that could buy us tens or hundreds of times over. I'd love to have a boat like yours somedayOn the other hand, there are people that can't pay their bills and have no idea how they will eat next week. Sucess is earned, worked hard for, and in many times requires you to pick yourself up, not feel sorry for yourself, and try to make smarter decisions in the future.

Tough guys like to hide behind keyboards. They wouldn't dare say it to someone's face and they are usually just bitter because they dont have it and are miserable. I have a nice boat and I have everything I want, but I also work full-time and even doordash at night to be able to afford the nicer things. some people would rather shoot their mouth off than understand the hard work it takes.
I remember as a child that my mom dished up my dinner but nothing for herself. I didn't understand that at the time we could afford enough food. Our orchard had been decimated by hail 3 years in a row so no income for 3 years. My mom was a legend. This gave me the motivation to push myself as you have. I'm 65 now and live a comfortable life like yourself. Some people will try to bring you down to their level because they are too lazy to rise up. BTW I love your videos.

I thought that the pursuit of happiness was part of the American ethos, everyone’s happiness goals are different and yours is as sacrosanct as the next persons. The breadth of boat types and ways to enjoy those boats is immense, so if you are in a position to have a nice boat and enjoy it with family and friends that’s fabulous. Keep on enjoying the fruits of your labor and thank you for sharing your journey and all of the ups,downs and lessons learned

I am Nearing 50 and starting to think about retirement or after 60 life. Yacht living has becoming appealing to me and spending time in the Caribbean is a shared idea between my wife and I. Your videos about the process has become a "how to" learning experience. I am a fan of Aquilas, which makes your videos more interesting. It's not just a boat tour video, you show what it takes to transition to living a yacht life. Keep on keeping on and live the best life you can. Thanks for sharing.

You can't control in life what other people think or say about you. But you are 100% in charge of what you think about what they say. So don't get upset, infuriated etc. Just decide (yes, you decide!) to know that when people spew negativity they speak only of themselves, not the target of their negativism. You are doing awesomely; I am sure you are a force for good in the lives of people you love and who love you. And that's worth celebrating!
