  • This week we take another look at the stopping power of the .44 Remington Magnum, firing from a Henry .44 Remington Magnum Big Boy Lever Action Rifle. How much difference will we see between the two firearms?
    Thanks for watching. New videos post every Thursday!

    I got one of these for my wife last Christmas. She really likes her cowboy gun. Thanks for the video.

      You are welcome. That rascal doesn't recoil at all either. Such a usable platform married to that power, absolutely awesome. Thanks for viewing and be safe.

    I have quite a lot of deer hunting experience with my older Ruger 44 MAG. Best accuracy comes from a handload featuring the Hornady 200 grain hollow tip bullet. Typical group at 100 yards is a three inch cluster using a 4X Redfield scope. When this bullet impacts the animal's chest, it usually staggers and topples over quickly. There is ghastly damage within the chest organs and wide wound channel. Expanded bullet flattens out to about .78 diameter. Thank you for your review.

    This was a great series on the 44 magnum. Would love to see one on the 41 magnum

    I love your videos. Very to the point without being a showboat like many other channels. I appreciate your logical approach. This is educational to me.

      I just try to do stuff that interests me, and deliver it in a way that I would want to get it. I really am glad you like the content and took the time to comment. Stay tuned because coming up we do a deep dive on barrel length and muzzle velocity.

    Appreciate the coverage of 44 and the comparison between handgun & rifle. Thank you for bullet pix between the 2. That Swift A-Frame is impressive in both. It would be excellent for deer, hogs, bear(black), maybe elk at reasonable range. I personally really have liked the 44 mag for deer. Most all of my children were taught to hunt with a 44 rifle of some stripe or another. In my experience even the best loads not only lose notable velocity and energy beyond 125 yards the accuracy begins to suffer considerably also.

      We were excited about this video and when the block jumped off the table that was just icing on the cake. I don't shoot alot of .44 mag so I am glad people are sharing their experiences with it. I would agree.....great deer round. Thanks again and have a great rest of your summer.

    Effective cartridge...Uncle Elmer knew his stuff! For use against two-legged predators, I like the 200 grain XTP from a long gun. Great accuracy and expands out to at least 200 yards (the furthest I've tagged a varmint with one). I've shot a Rossi 92 rifle (24" barrel) in 44 Mag out to 385 yards, and once I doped the drop, hitting an IMSA ram silhouette target was no problem, though I DID have to hold on a bush above the target since the elevator didn't move the rear up far enough!😄

      Well there you go. Drop is okay if...... you know the rifle. That is what being a rifleman was all about back in the day. Where's the hold and range estimation. Great shooting by the way at almost 400 yards. Impressive! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.

      @@AmmoMart I feel like in today's world of mil-dots and "Christmas tree" reticles, the old Kentucky windage skills are being lost. Shooting traditional muzzleloaders and iron-sighted rimfires out to 200 yards for a couple decades taught me...

    Been planning on picking up one of the new Marlin Dark Series in .44 mag next year when they release to hang on my wall and keep handy as a home defense rifle (I live in a communist state where ARs are deemed "too scary and black" by the tyrants in power). I knew the projectile speed would increase due to the barrel length but this is impressive.

    Anyone know where I can find ballistic info for 44 mag on a Henry 44 Magnum Carbine Big Loop 16 in rifle? I through a mini eotech red dot on it and it's handy. I believe the dot size is 3 moa.

    Is there any .44Remington Magnum which exceed the 2500Joules from at least 18 inch barrel? The 18inches (45cm) is the minimum barrel length for hunting purpose, and 2500 Joules for european red deer, european fallow deer, mouflon and wild boar in Hungary. Thank you! I like the .44Magnum as it is more common and cheaper(!) here than .454Cassul and .45-70Goverment. Oh, the 2500Joules is for the muzzle energy. I also would courious about the .357Magnum, although if it exceed 1000Joules at the muzzle it is allowed for european roe deer and small "pests" like red fox, golden jackal, european badger, and the two invasive species, the racoon and the racoon dog.

      If you handload/reload your own ammunition 2500 J or 1844 ft-lbs is definitely possible out of a 20 inch barrel. Barrel's under 20" and/or bullets over 240gr won't likely achieve your energy requirements.
      180gr = 2148 fps
      200gr = 2038 fps
      225gr = 1921 fps
      240gr = 1860 fps

    You REALLY need to learn how to cycle a lever gun.
