Another trick to age wood is to take a chain, place it between the board your keeping and a scrap. Use your foot to gently roll one piece over the other. Leaves nice impressions without tearing the grain.

I WAS JUST logging in to say the EXACT same thing!!! I learned that trick with an “OLD” wooden trunk my mom gave me that said was her “Hopeless Trunk” from when she was young. I guess it was custom for a Father to Give his Daughter a “Hope Chest” (Allegedly a beautiful Chest/Trunk that a Daughter would use to store her ‘collections’ for starting her new home once she was Married…..my mom was on her 3rd husband at the time she gave me the ‘HOPELESS Trunk’ as she called it, ROFL!” And I beat the crap out of it with a piece of heavy towing chain I found in the garage and then used any and every pit of stain we had 1/8th to 1/4 left in it and I blended them to make 3 different colors and stained it with that and then sealed it! It LOOKS AMAZING! SO GOOD that she actually ASKED FOR IT BACK!!!! I said NO because then she would jinx me as I am 23 years (almost 24) with my Husband! It is quite the talking piece however. It is lined with Cedar - it was made that way- so it is at the foot of our bed and I store our linens in there and I draped a faux small lamp wool shaped tiny ‘Rug’ across the top and it looks great. I have also seen people grab old used up Saddle holders at garage sales and sand them down and do the same thing. I have also seen this exact one that she made (in theory) done as a leaning wall ‘ladder’ but it was actually an open looking book shelf and my GF that made it (she is far more skilled than I am!) put shelves at each ‘step’ instead of keeping for a ladder however she did leave one ‘step’ as a step and used it to hang a beautiful hand knit throw over top so it draped down BEHIND the shelves that were where steps would be yet it was still the “A” frame style like this. She liked it SO much that she made one for her Bathroom that ONLY had all ladder steps and did not have ANY shelves where the ladder steps would be. Since she MADE it herself, she placed the “steps” closer than a REAL ladder would have them so she could hang her large bath towels off them so they draped down sine the style was more of a 1/2 ‘A’ shape. The front pice angle forward for the ‘steps’ and the back went straight down, hence my description in saying it looked more like a 1/2 of an ‘A’ shape but I should say ‘….when looking from the side view.’. She then painted it and sealed it with a waterproof or resistant type clear finish after she beat it up for a 2nd time with the ol’ chain. It gave it such a cool look having it banged up prior to painting and then again after painting but before sealing it. NB: One thing I did notice here is that she didn’t say, but I hope people do SEE as it appears obvious to me🤷🏼♀️, that after she beat it up with “every tool you have”, she sanded it a bit heard and there so there were not any slivers that could get you or anything you draped across it!!! THIS shape and idea has SOOO MANY different variations that it is almost a template for anything you need to stack, hold or hang things off as one that I made in the taller ‘1/2 A’ shape, I used the ‘steps’ area for shelves which were as deep as each level allowed to placed folded sweaters on and then on the SIDE of it, I put in small teacup hooks and I hang ball caps and hats on one side and gloves and scarves on the other as well as longer and larger necklaces that I would triple up around my neck with a white collared shirt. Opera Length Pearls and necklaces of that ilk. SOOOO many ideas for this template to be taken and ran with to be made into your own personal style. I have seen so many of her ideas and everyone of them is a starting point to make into something personal for yourself or for someone else as a gift (Ladder/shelf style in a NewBorns Room to hold diapers folded up and ready to use as well as one shelf close by to hold powders and creams etc. See…..ALL of this from ONE wee thin ‘saw horse’ style wooden item that costs next to nothing which is saying a LOT when speaking of wood in today’s wood prices!!! And a HUGE THANK YOU TO @jamesalexander8368 on the beet juice stain idea and vinegars etc. YOU led me down a path of looking for “original staining techniques” for a GF who’s hubby is having some severe allergies to chemicals so they are going all “organic” as possible in their home and asked me to make a ladder shelf for the baby’s room but could I use something that was not chemical to stain it. I read your comments and mentally gave you a HUGE HIGH FIVE!!! I know that my GF’s Mother who is Aboriginal made me a beaded belt buckle from OLD quill beads etc that had colors I have never ever seen and she told me how it was done in “the old days” which were LONG BEFORE SHE WAS BORN LOL! And sure enough veggie dye! I never thought for one second about using it on wood until I read your post so you receive ALL the credit on that when it is done!!!! THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!!! If you think of how to do a BLUE (clearly it is a boy lol! - and NO that is not an opening for ANYONE to attempt to “educate” me in colors and gender garbage so shhhh, go elsewhere, thank you.) I would be SUPERE DUPER GRATEFUL…I have some ideas and am testing them now to see if anything picks up and can be bleached out in sun a bit to go blue or watered down etc. but any shade of Blue is the goal! Excellent project and end piece. Perfect beginner project but… how long were the 2 x 2 pieces before you cut them? Also your 2 x 6 board? Obviously it could vary depending on how tall or long someone wanted their bench but if we wanted to make 1 the same size as yours?
Looks great, but you should never drill, auger, or cut with your hand in front of the cutting tool. very dangerous. Just my opinion. Been doing the job injury free for 30 years. Please be careful.
Don't sit or stand on it. That type of wood is very soft and the screws connecting the legs to the horizontal board will force the whole thing to collapse. Definitely built by a beginner.
Hi! In case you don’t know, you need to disclose that you’re an ambassador for the products that you use in every video. It’s not enough to just have a line about it in the channel description. Ah yes, beginners and they readily available table saw, nail gun and paint soray gun. Everything is super simple and easy when you have 3k of tools in your garage.
Go borrow the tools, or go buy you a $10 miter box that comes with a saw. They work just as good as the expensive power tools. If you are going to make little projects and diy's, most people will have basic inexpensive tools, instead of complaining about not having any tools. If you don't have any tools. If you can't afford $10 tools, and a $2 pack of sandpaper, then I don't know what to tell you. When I started out, I used cheap hammer and nails, and then worked my way up. People don't know how to use their common sense, or don't know how to be self sufficient anymore, and it's quite sad.
It's not though.... Anyone can make furniture to their own liking. Just because it doesn't suit you, doesn't mean people are lazy who choose it. If your a judgmental person, just say that. 🤡
This technique has been done by tons of people to make their wood look old and rustic. Using the screwdriver to take a few chunks out of the wood, to make it look more worm and old was a great idea. You obviously don't do any kind of diy's , so your comment is irrelevant. 🤡

A hammer, a saw and a nail is all you need.
The wood is already cut into size and there is no need to flatten or sand.

Never “power tool” towards your limbs (like drilling a screw towards your hand).
You make that mistake once and you learn pretty quick (I did).
never put your hand in front of the direction of a screw being driven

Hello! What about the middle 2 pieces for the legs? What are those dimensions? Also what is the length of your bench? Thanks
This is dope!
Handy but it needs triangle bracing on the inside for structural integrity 🍺🍺
That thing is going to rack side to side. No lateral bracing on it.
Would that mean also adding a beam lower down to connect the legs? I wanna make this so just curious
Has anyone ever told you that you sound like drew Barrymore? Such a sweet cute voice!
It's not structurally sound, and with every wobble those screws will come lose... I would use dowels instead
Legs...something about legs...❤
