I welcome you to today's video where you saw the renovation of this device, which was previously used to measure fat in milk.
In the 1880s, the Wisconsin Agricultural Experiment Station began focusing research on measuring butterfat.
Agricultural chemist Frederick Short, through his persistent testing, devised a theory of inexpensive and simple measurement of milk fat.
The developer and University of Wisconsin professor Stephen Babcock improved this method and refused to patent it.
Thanks to this, Babcock's test could be used not only by small dairies, but also by farmers.
The Babcock test has become very popular, mainly because of its simplicity, accuracy and effectiveness.
And how does the Babcock test work?
The test was based on observations by putting sulfuric acid into milk, which dissolves proteins and other components besides fat.
By skimming and heating the milk, the fat is separated and floats to the top in a bubble-free layer.
Read the fat content on the calibrated neck of the flask and determine the fat content of the milk.
Thanks to this method, in 1915 Wisconsin became the leading dairy state in the country, producing more butter and cheese than any other state.
And that's all for today's video.
Thanks for watching.

Centrifuge. A beautiful one at that when you guys got done with it. It's remarkable how you can make something look brand new again. Keep up the good work and we will keep on watching! Take care of each other. And thanks for the history lesson at the end we always enjoy that!
I was thinking the same thing. The tubes were to hold glass vials. Must be manually operated so missing handles?
Wow, thank you so much for the lovely comment Thomas :)
If you watched to the end of the video, then don't :)
Centrifuge was my guess too. Nice piece.
test tube centrifuge. fabulous restoration!
Thank you so much :)
I thought it was an early centrifuge for medical purposes. But it may have inspired the development of the latter. In any case it's a beautiful piece, you guys did a fabulous job of restoring it as always.
It was use for medical use also, also was in the sugar cane industry labs.
Test tube centrifuge to let solids deposit quickly to the bottom of the test tube
Thank you Denise :)
Very cool!!! Never would have thought it would be used for dairy!!! 🤔
❤️❤️❤️👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you Samantha :)
A beautiful piece you two have restored. Laboratory equipment such as this is often forgotten and scrapped which is such a shame.
It's actually possible this might not have been specifically used in a laboratory. That style of centrifuge could easily have been used for testing milk quality, or for quality control of small processes, such as batches of paints, solvents, soil sampling, and so on.
It is true. A similar fate awaited this one :)
One of the things I absolutely love about your channel, aside from the quality of work, is the variety of projects you work on. Thank you very much for sharing.
Thank you so much Dave :)
Outstanding! If I were a Wisconsin dairy farmer, I would definitely want this piece.
👍😉
You know how to outdo yourself every time, Radek. And the care with which you do your restorations is absolutely perfect. Thank you for sharing another great video. 👍👍👍
His real name is Ambar of Kotu.
Another masterpiece restored by you, Radek and Veronica, congratulations, and as always it looks better than when it was manufactured.
Thank you so much my friend :)
Beautiful job, Radek. It looks wonderful. Veronica, love your explanation at the end. Thank you both for sharing
We are delighted Vickie, thank you :)

Díky Pavle :)
Excellent restoration 👍👍👍Thank you for sharing. Be safe🇨🇦
Thank you so much :)
A test tube centrifuge.☺️
👍😉
Centrifugal device, I used similar to this in the oilfield during welltesting, it's to determine sediments and water cut in percentage of glass of hydrocarbons and the unit of measure is BS&W = Basic Sediment & Water. The two small liquid recipients should glass and graduated from 0 to 100 for reading the amount of sediments and water contained in oil or condensate gas samples.
Wow, thank you :)
Oh so freaking cool! That is a rather amazing little device, and so magically restored. You all do just amazing work, it just makes me happy to see a video from you!
Thank you so much for posting!
Thanks for the positive comment Dee :)
Hello Radek and Veronica beautiful restoration beautifully restored well done
A very enjoyable restoration. Beautiful brass, and smooth paint. Each detail looked great 👍🏻
Great restoration of an historical device. A very effective measurement device. From a junk pile into a museum quality showpiece of examples of history. You are correct that Wisconsin is the dairy capital of America. Just about all the mozzarella cheese that gets put on pizza in America is made in Wisconsin. So much cheese is made in Wisconsin that people from Wisconsin are called cheese heads.
Lol, thank you so much :)
Another fantastic restoration. The science geek in me got excited the moment that I saw it. I was confused about the dual shafts until the end when I saw their purpose. Once again the follow up history lesson was wonderful.
Thank you so much :)
Good afternoon from Kentucky, U.S.A.
Beautiful renovation!
My grandparents (and their ancestors) were dairy farmers in northwestern New Jersey, U.S.A. Grampa (born 1890) would put the filled milk cans in the family’s horse-drawn wagon and take them to the creamery in town. I wonder if this measuring device was at the creamery.
This is possible because it is a milk fat content tester.
Your Restorations are always so amazing
We are happy, thank you David :)
Awesome. “Always double check twice” good, good advice Framers.
👉👍😉
Невероятная реставрация и потрясающий прибор? Девайс? В общем очень здорово!❤️👍

Excelente restauración 👏👏👏👏👏👏 abrazos desde Uruguay
This is a very nice piece, even if you don't use it today, it makes for a great talking point if sitting on display.
Молодцы чехи. Педантичны и трудолюбивы.
Just awesome, first class restoration from Veradona team !!!👍👍👌👌❤❤❤🥇🏆🍾🥂❄❄
Thank you so much John :)
I use a hand cranked centrifuge with my work. We also have a modern one as well. It is more pleasant to use the hand cranked one as you can hear and talk over it as you work with other people in the lab. Thanks for sharing this beautiful piece of history.
Thank you so much :)
Beautiful restoration. Thank you for the video. 👍🏼👍🏼❤️
Thank you so much :)

Всегда смотрю и рад что уже забыто обретает новую жизнь👍🔥
A quality tool, made well with brass and cast iron, not only restored, but made to look better than new with your filing and filling and powder coating. Absolutely wonderful job and historical notes by your lovely Veronika too, well done.
Thank you so much :)
Hey VR
Great outcome and learning the history was a nice bonus.
Take care
Brilliant job. Pinstriping is hard! I thought the creation of a new handle was superbly done - just looked exactly right. Very impressive piece of equipment. One of your very best!
Went straight to the reveal because I'm tired. Clever device 👌Will watch the restoration later 😄
Ok, thanks :)
This came out AWESOME! Beautiful work.
I think, the ONLY thing I may have done differently would have been to turn the bolts around that hold the centrifuge to the base, so that the pretty "rounded over" part of the bolt was visible, on top, and the nuts were underneath.
Thank you very much Paulina. The advice is good, but due to the length of the screws, I wouldn't be able to get the screw from the top part into the holes. Thank you :)
Me alegro, gracias :)
i used to work in the lab at a dairy in the late nineties, we used a more modern centrifuge similar to this to measure the fat in cream. Well done on this restoration!
Thank you so much :)
One of the nicest restorations I have ever seen.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I'm glad, thank you :)
Very cool centrifuge. Outstanding job on the restoration.
Thank you Stephen :)

Thank you :)
Excelente Restauración...!!...Muy linda herramienta...Ji ji ji...Saludossss Amigoss....
Gracias :)
A beautiful video. The soft sounds of the tools blended with the restoration visuals were relaxing and informative. Thank you
Thanks for the nice comment :)
Yep,even before watching the short I thought centrifuge for lab work, old style lab work separating liquids from solids. Same idea as modern smooth running high speed ones still do today. Thumbs up even before I watch.
I'm glad, thank you :)
I knew it by the time I saw it that it was a kind of centrifugal. Amazing!!! The ancestor of all centrifugals! I couldn't imagine the purpose though! Congrats!
Thank you so much Marianna :)
Parabéns. Ficou excelente 👍
Fico feliz Rafael, obrigada :)
Great work, as always. Rhode Island , USA
Thank you :)
Well done to both of you another interesting restoration
I like your realist approach to restoration. Good work.
I'm glad, thank you :)
Beautiful restoration
I restored an early De Laval cream separator that came with a very similar look device, and so I know its for checking the fat content of milk. Works off of centrifugal force that moves the heavy milk fats to the lower part of the flasks and leaves the skim milk at the upper part of it
Wow, thank you !
Přiznávám, že jsem hádal, že to má co do činění s vážením nebo něčím lékařským. Nebylo to tak úplně. Děkuji za pěknou práci a vysvětlení je to velmi pěkné👌😉
Where would we be without WD-40. Amazed at the skill and art of the restoration.
👉👍😉 Thanks Lisa :)
Very nice work !! It looks AMAZING and and really spins to !! I love the black and gold with the pinstripe so fitting GREAT work as always !!
Thanks for the nice comment Robert :)
👍Очередное качественное видео. Ждём продолжение!)
Superb, Radek. I couldn't believe such lovely brass gears were hidden under all that crud and oil.
Yes, it's just a shame that they are not visible.
Muy buena restauracion. 🙏👍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Gracias Vicente :)
Excelente trabajo como siempre, valió mucho la explicación al final.
Excellent renovation as always. Have you considered putting a tachometer on it to see how fast it turns?
not yet :)
Love the restoration. You did an excellent job! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you so much Deeanna :)
simply lovely restoration radek well done mate and once again another very informative history lesson from Mrs veradona thanks my friend 😀
Thank you Peter :)
my pleasure radek.
It is interesting that the centrifuge machine was a development for the milk industry, and that only later was it taken up by scientists.
It's quite an elegant machine once it has been so expertly restored.
Thank you :)
It looks very nice. Also tries vices to life old items😊
Thanks :)
Another amazing restoration. I liked how you built missing part too. And as usual final explanations are priceless. 👌
Where on earth do you find these forgotten treasures? Such interesting devices and tools. Just fascinating and thank you.
Great restoration!
It's like a work of art. Thank you for sharing.
Excellent restoration! I saw and used one of these when I was working in a clinic in a small village in Peru. You did a wonderful job. ❤️
