I had no idea what the machine was used for when the video started. Where do you find these things? The original manufacturers name - V. ROTT KARLIN - may have been covered over when the Soviet Union took control of the Czech Republic, possibly because it was a German owned company, possibly because the manufacturing machinery was removed from CZ and re-installed somewhere inside the USSR. Is Karlin the name of a city in your country? It was nice to see Veronica again, now I must have a look at her latest recipe. Thank you Radek.
Yes Karlín is a city in my country. Veronica found this particular item on the internet in an ad :) Thank you Nick for considering the obscured inscription. Congratulations on the draw :) Have a nice day Radek and Veronica
I was just looking this up myself - 'V. Rott' could have been Vincenc Rott, founder of the V.J. Rott company in 1840, or his grandson Vladimir, who was the last member of the Rott family to be an 'active entrepreneur' in Czechoslovakia. If it was the grandson, this might explain why the name was covered up, because Vladimir and his family were forced to flee the country in 1948 when the communists took power. Maybe just because he was a rich 'class enemy', or maybe he had been collaborating with the German occupation during the war; I can't easily find that information. Either way, I imagine that having the new 'revolutionary workers' using tools and machines that had the notorious capitalist Rott's name written on them would have been a bad look. The new bureaucrats in charge of equipment distribution for the State probably decided that they needed to cover up any manufacturer's names, to avoid uncomfortable thoughts and awkward questions from the workers about exactly where these 'tools of the revolution' had come from.
I liked the staples in the old material removed from the two small wheels. I loved the trick you used to replace them with the silicone.....😃 BRILLIANT

That really was unique, I never thought such a device existed. Your restoration made it look store front new, as always. It will definitely be a great addition to your many antique tools collection. Thanks for sharing.
1929 I'm thinking it's a tool used to make wire wrapped electrical coils for motors or electromagnets, etc. It counts how many wraps you're making so you get the right sized coil for your application.
Husband is an engineer, I'm just good with google translate, so between us we think it's to do with measuring the length of wire. Perhaps copper, lead solder wire, etc. Just our guess, but the husband is usually right.😊 Either way this is, as always, a WONDERFUL restoration. It's so nice to see historical items restored back to their heyday.
@@thomasneal9291 How would it do that? The scale indicates length in metres, up to 100 and that's what the rollers transfer to the pointer via the gear mechanism. The chart on the left gives diametre, weight (I can't really figure out that one though, doesn't seem to be kg per 100 m, e.g. 1.5 mm2 solid copper is 20 kg/km or 2 km/100 m and not 1.35 according to a cable manufacturer's catalogue) and maximum current. The table on the right is a simple conversion HP/kW. Originally I thought it might have been for winding motors and transformers but those use enamelled wire, which is always measured by diametre rather than cross-sectional area, so it was probably intended for building wire.
Maybe the maker's mark was hidden to protect secrets of fabrication. Could be as well because the workshop was personnalised by its owner, and no other brand was tolerated. Or V. Rott Karlin was associated with the wrong people, and it was a shame to have anything to do with them... IDK!
not likely the secrets, but yeah more like WHO. most likely it was manufactured during the German occupation of Czechoslovakia, and whoever was trying to resell it after the war covered the manufacturer up so people wouldn't be angered.
looked into it, Karlín is the name of a Czech town that became a district of Prague in 1922. as for V. Rott, a bit of searching on Wikipedia brings up Vincenc Josef Rott, born in 1813, he founded a metal goods company in Prague around 1840, the business was kept running and expanded by his successors until 1948 when it was nationalised following Czechoslovakia becoming communist. as far as i can tell from reading the wiki, the Rotts weren't really controversial, the last owner of the company, Vladimir Jiri Rott was an honorary Norwegian consul and apparently helped people escape to Norway after the German invasion. however when the communists took power, the family fled to the US so it could be tied to that
