- Vintage 1968 Schwinn Run-A-Bout with rare 3 speed stick shift. All original condition including tires. Schwinn made these cool folding bikes in only 3 years, 1968,1969,1970. Back in 1970 when I was 15, I had a green Run-A-Bout that I put a banana seat and sissy bar on. I could ride wheelies for long distances with it because the banana seat put my weight back over the rear tire, making it simple. Ahh, those were the days! So you see why I bought this when I had the chance.
Thanks! When I bought this RAB, the bike had some dirt under the fenders and needed detailing. I was thrilled to see the original tires indicating what the previous owner told me, that it was all original and had been hanging in his basement for 30+ years. After I got it home, I disassembled it completely, cleaned, waxed, and lubed it, then posted this video because I think this is one of the best conditioned original RAB's I've seen. These awesome bikes sell for big bucks if you can find one.
Wow.. I have not seen one of these since the mid 70's. I had a friend that had one. I remember wanting one when I saw my old school buddy on one.
Geezo, more rare than the Krates or Fastbacks. Love the fat whitewalls. Bravo!
I have the same model . it was spotted with some serious rust . I did as you , complete disassemble cleaning and overhaul . I sold the whitewalls and replaced them with the black version of the same tires ( yes the gripper slick ) I've rebuilt around 100 assorted sting rays . I kept a few .
Sorry for the late response. I'm in Cleveland, Ohio and appreciate your kind comments.
we're thinking of getting a group of runabouts for a "gang" ride ( not gang in the negative way )
by what state , I meant literally what state in this country was it in ? I just wondered how it avoided rust and rot of the tires . the photo's look like the cleanest one I've ever seen
what state was that in ? the lack of rust and rot is way above average
Time machine let me have fun
what tiers
Would you like to sell the runabout?
what size is this bike??
