- QT & co. converted several blocks on Hollywood Blvd into 1969 for #onceuponatimeinhollywood and were kind enough to invite us neighborhood folks to watch on. With the movie releasing soon, I thought I'd slap together what footage I gathered for your viewing pleasure. Music by the Daily Pravda.

The best part of this movie is that, for nearly three hours, you're transported to 1969.
I agree. After watching the movie I was like, how did they do that? Every shot was 1969 including wide shots of freeways.
Except to go through all that and flubbed the ending. And get that the Manson family were hippies wrong.They were not. They were just a right-wing racist cult and crooks.
@@bowtie3 I don't think so. Right wingers in 1969 had crew cuts and wore ties. The Manson family were long-haired, tie-dye wearing, dumpster-diving stoners with contempt for authority and affluence. They were the opposite of right wing.

Males and females assumed roles more aligned with the actual laws of nature rather than this feminist nonsense encouraging females to have big mouths leaving many men never to marry. Also, look at all the great muscle cars that were produced in 1969. Today, guys think their bad-ass driving in tiny little electric cars. Please, take me back to 1969!!!!

The amount of effort that went into this film is mind blowing. I'm going to reward this effort by seeing it over and over again while it's in the theaters and then buying the DVD. I've seen it once so far and can't stop thinking about it, which is always the measure of a film's quality. Tarrantino is a genius and this is his masterpiece.
Into this film? Do you know how much effort was put in Birth of Nation? This movie isn't an exception just because Tarantino is a director.

Someone should make a town to look like this as a holiday destination where you can just sort of mince about in the 60's for a week. Hire an old car and just drive around amongst other people doing the same thing.

@John Fisher True, though cellphones are kind of a lifeline in the event of an emergency. A themed town like this would still work though, even with people carrying around cellphones. I wonder how popular a place like that would be? ..a sort of Disneyland for adults. I'd go!
Great idea not just the 60s but many other eras. Would be even better if there were people willing to live as if they were in the 60s and make a whole town

Seen it twice. Going to see it again this weekend. Best movie of the year by far.

I'd have to say Parasite is definitely the best film of the year so far. Definitely check it out if you haven't seen it.

The public doesn’t realize how painstaking it is to make a great film .Every choice and decision is important to the outcome and the possibilities are endless . I Love the length of his films because you can really escape into the characters and story ..

I think those that don't like the movie just don't get it. And that's OK, but doesn't mean t/movie sucks. You have to use some imagination & think outside of the box & appreciate a director who has done just that! The movie is a masterpiece!

It’s really amazing how much time, resources and effort something like this takes. You literally have to turn the dial back; add and dress extras, bring in cars and props from the era, change the buildings, divert traffic then schedule shooting. Blows my mind. It’s all worth it of course..everyone I’ve met who’s seen this movie praised it.

I grew up in LA and watched Q's coming up. I can remember every job I was on as he dropped each new flick. He has LA closed down dressed up and he is on top doing his thing.
So very proud of you man!
I remember being on set as an extra for Malcolm X. 3rd avenue and 122nd street was turned into 1960s era 125th street in Harlem. It was the same level of detail; truly breath taking. I visit LA often and I regret not being around to witness the transformation of the blvd. Great video.
This is what makes Tarantino so good, he does almost everything with practical effects instead of CGI.

This is one of my favorite films of all time, perfectly captures the 1960’s, Tarantino is an absolute mastermind
One gets a good sense of how much Quentin Tarantino is in control of the set. Outside of the his script, this is probably what makes his movies so consistently good.

Well done, who said time travel isn't possible, this is what movie making was meant to be. 1969 was a benchmark year. I plan on buying the DVD to support this movie and to take in all the detail.
Could of been so easy to use green screen/cgi,, and cheaper,,,, however,,the results for the set to look just like 1969 was off the chart. We need more film makers like QT to keep arts and crafts folks,, who are so talented, to be kept in work. My hat off to QT.
Cool to see this kind of stuff. One issue I have with films and old cars, is they're always spotless. Nothing has a speck of dirt on it. That's unrealistic.

As the credits rolled & the tone shifted into a melancholy mood, I took one last drag on my cigarette & collected my coat & hat & hailed a cab. The streets of L.A. were darker than usual with something more than the night.

But the big question is "WHAT'S" he have "IN" that old "PIPE"
This is by far THE BEST behind-the-scenes footage I've seen. I was there for the two October shoots and yes, you are literally put in a time warp just standing around the set. And the amazing thing is after having seen OUATIH four times now, the boulevard set only shows up in about three or four brief, day and night driving scenes. Nonetheless, the QT spared very little and essentially got every period detail exact. And not surprisingly, the finished movie is quite spectacular.
Wish I had a time machine and get in this movie... this and Wolf of Wall Street... hopefully epic movies like this will continue to be made!

One mistake I did discover when I saw the film on Friday AM.... when Sharon (Margot) enters the theatre in Westwood to see her film "The Wrecking Crew", the Ann-Margret film "CC & Company" is playing on the screen. I'm friends with Ann-Margret, and know her films quite well... in fact, this film was written by her husband, Roger Smith. The premiere date for "CC" was October 14, 1970, in New York City. The actual filming of "CC & Company" began on April 13, 1970. However, the time period in "Once Upon A Time In Hollywood" was from February, 1969 through August 9, 1969... more than a year before the film was released to the public.

@Jimmy Short One "possible" mistakes I noticed, was the advertisement for the Fright Night with Seymour show. I believe that show debuted in 1970, not 1969.
That sounds like MAYBE they figured the young ones would just see “old” & “someone” wanted to pay homage to Ann-Margaret or Roger Smith? Not thinking at all about people actually “fact checking” some of this??
I can understand why this movie was so expensive to make. All those people and all that equipment costs money, plus the payouts to the property owners, city licenses, and police department costs.
$90m is a standard Tarantino price tag, around the same as Inglorious Basterds and Django Unchained

It’s amazing how far he’s come from Reservoir Dogs production wise. That movie was shot in one location for the most part and had almost no production budget.

As I sat in the theater wondering how they made it look like 1969. Lol...I remember the yellow city buses. Very meticulous and well thought out. Good job.

Those car mount rigs are pretty much standard gear, it just takes a little grip magic to put the camera exactly where the Director and DP want it and secure it for safety.

I remember last year I saw an old bus stop near Las Palmas, but I didn’t know it would be in a back in time movie.
How much more real was the world then. This was a long movie that could have gone on all afternoon for me.
This is so cool to see how they make movies.

Notice that the camera car chassis used to haul around Brad Pitt's blue car is the very popular 1973 -1978 GMC Motorhome chassis - like the one used in Bill Murray's movie Stripes. 455 Chevrolet V8, front wheel drive, 6 wheeler.
That's way cool you could identify that! I know exactly what you're talking about. They had the Toronado front drive set-up. A couple of the cars were a little off, like the '71/2 El Camino, and the '63 Ford cop car.
I don't think you'd see a 6 yr old cop car pretty much ever. Couple other little things too, but wow overall!

@Ray Lopez I turned 9 in October of '69. I watched HK before going to school in the morning. I also watched Fright Night with Seymour. But, I didn't think that show began until 1970, but I could be wrong.
