The Bevel Shave system is designed to help reduce razor bumps & skin irritation. The safety razor is well known for being a great shave and very cost effective as well. In this video I try my first safety razor shave and after 1 day I am impressed. I would like to try the full shave system in the future after my initial experience.

You should have watched a tutorial on how to wet shave before filming this.

The shave formula I use does not lather up like other shave soaps.

For shaving soaps, would suggest you try Body Shop's Maca Root and Proraso, either in tub or tube. Both lather up nicely, and enable the safety razor to glide smoothly across the skin.
In the video, you appear not to have lathered up much, nor use much water. Is that the method for a straight razor ? I use a safety razor, and find the above two lather immensely, and I wet the blade continuously. At the end off the shave, I squeeze the excess soap from the brush, to wash my face. After all, it's soap.
If you venture into other razors, Edwin Jagger is a safe choice, but the Merkur slant razors really give a nice shave, especially if you pair them with either Persona or Feather blades.
Last but not least, look into some good synthetic brushes. Best I have use so far is from French maker Plisson. More ethical, more hygienic, and travel better as can still be put in your dopp bag a bit wet, without the wet dog oder occuring.

Thank you Larry this is all excellent information.
I do want to get deeper into shave soaps once I catch up on my other clothing reviews because it seems the market right now is ripe with amazing options. I've noted your recommendations and look forward to getting more.
The Baxter "super close shave formula" I am using in the video rarely gets very lathery or sudsy no matter how much I try, some of me other soaps get luscious and rich but this one for some reason is very flat but still works very well for me.
I hadn't considered using non-badger hair brushes before but it would make logical sense that synthetic would be longer lasting overall? I haven't noticed a wet-dog smell on mine but I could see it happening when throwing into a bag for travel. Sounds like you know your stuff and appreciate you checking out the video and letting me know about these companies!

Thanks for putting this up. Definitely need some pre shave oil, that'll help with the irritation. A dab of water on the badger brush really helps me before I use the cream.
Art of Shaving seems to have best pre shave oil that I've seen. Another product I love is Jack Black beard lube. It has pre shave oil in it along with the lube to shave all in one step. Very economical for a medium sized bottle of Jack Black that'll last months if used right.
    Just a couple thoughts.
    Thanks again.

I am trying to decide whether I want to switch to straight shaving or using a safety razor. With your honest opinion which one do you prefer?

Safety razor has much lower learning curve and is faster for everyday shaving in my experience. I have kept my straight razor on the side for weekends and when I have more time to dedicate and enjoy the experience. Also from price standpoint you need to spend a pretty penny for a long lasting straight razor ($150-250) unless buying cheapest possible but that never works out. Safety razor like this gives you chance to have nice soaps, get the full experience without risk of opening up your neck :-p

You mentioned you were interested in trying other safety razors, as well, and I would like to suggest my current safety razor: the Merkur "Futur" Adjustable Razor (a.co/0Zyhf6c). It has a wonderful feel but the ability to adjust the razor's angle minutely provides a fantastic way to personalize and customize the shaving experience. I've been using mine for 3+ years and I love it! That's just one suggestion.
Great videos, though, as I just found your channel 2 days ago. Keep 'em coming!

I can say buy a clear mile, probably by far the worst lather I have ever seen in any video in my entire life.
Take it from a man that shave daily.
