FORGOTTEN C3 Corvette Gets Supercharged - PART 1 (preparing for burnout competition!)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 13 жов 2020
- In a two-part series, and In preparation for a burnout show, I'm installing a Weiand/Holley 142 blower, Holley carburetor, and other goodies on my 1980 Chevrolet corvette. With the pulleys provided, I should get around 5-6 PSI and turn this 4 speed into a tire fryer! I've got an idea for brakes to give me a little advantage, as well as special colored smoke tires. You can't miss this behind the scenes style video
If you'd like to try some colored smoke tires for yourself, search their huge selection at www.highwaymax.com and use code "ViceGripGarage" for 10% OFF! I don't make a penny from sales, but instead, want to pass a discount down to my channel fans.

A guy has a lot of things:
- Knowledge
- Free Time
- Patience
- One-liners
Respect.
There is nothing close to this show, for general interest, specialist knowledge and a good laugh out loud pretty much every minute, great value!
IMHO its because a whole lotta people have been through what he's going through. He makes it friggin hillarious!!!
@@aboutmyfathersbusiness8324 Agreed! I bet not many of us would be able to pass the swear jar without being bankrupt though 😬.
I lived on a farm for a while and it's a great introduction to Tourette's when you are working with old worn out machinery.

He works on cars like the rest of us do ;-)
Vice Grip for cars and comedy, Diesel Creek for funny & Heavy equipment. My two favorite channels!

*Derek hands it over*
"Sir, this is registration to a burnout competition"
I can't believe how much the guy pushes himself to do these videos and not run out of stamina and just throw everything through a window out of frustration and just pure tiredness. This guy... This guy is a champ champion champiogne champagne. God damn. It's unreal. He didn't even got mind bottled through all this.
Don't let this guy's "awww shucks" demeanor trick you - you're looking at a seriously brilliant mechanic here.
if you watch closely, sometimes the character steps aside and the real Derek's voice comes out of his mouth. :-)
@@brianlojeck this is actually the first time I’ve seen the “real” mechanic come out. It was cool to see.
Reminds me of my good friend, who's been my mechanic, for 30 years now..
Derrick got crazy skills and it's great I can watch
I really admire how modest derik is . He is one of the best . 👌
"Chip Foose eat your heart out!"
This man is a comedic genius
I also liked the way he subtly dropped that in there .....
The shape of the body on these (and those) Corvettes is something else, hats off to the designer. Forget the blower, a new eight track player in the cockpit would add 97.657 BHP to the rear wheels.
Me being a lady who knows nothing about cars but driving them...I love watching you bring these old cars and trucks back to life! You are a very funny genius...keep up the good work!
Hands down the best Channel on UA-cam I can watch this 24/7 and keep putting a smile on my face good job keep up the good work
Thank you kindly!
In case nobody got that Harbor Freight jackstands reference he made... I'll cue you in. Harbor freight did a massive recall on just about all their jackstands. Supposedly the tooling they used at the factory was worn out and they were dropping cars on people.
Just a warning.
"Tighter than Jlo's half -time outfit" surely the best yet!!
When a car diesels like that when I was a kid my Dad would say it runs so good it doesn’t want to quit!
VGG: Has lift
Also VGG: Uses jack and jack stands
Lifts are not always as great as everyone says they are, some jobs are faster to do the old fashioned way with a Jack.
I thought the same but that lift is not going to swing under the Vette. So you’ll need to use a floor Jack anyways.
Yeah ikr lol that drove me nuts haha I wish I had that lift 😞 or something I hate crawling around on my back an side an getting up an down under a car not fun
@@KnuckleHeadGarage27 your not missing out that much man, depending on ur lift, u still have to do some jobs with a floor Jack and sometimes setting up the lift can waste more time than just putting a jack underneath and getting it done and lifts can be sketchy and dangerous if ur not paying attention.
As much as he has to climb under then go back up top, especially for the brakes, the lift would be in the way.
"Jessica wouldn't let me bring my Harbor Freight ones." 😬
Had'em packed, she took em out
@@ViceGripGarage She's gotten used to her Sasquach, although why is still a mystery.
It's when she packs em is when you gotta start worrying
@@NoWr2Run so sorry for you, I hope peace finds you soon
@@ViceGripGarage, i feel ya. Had mine for years on years never had a problem. Turned in 2 sets and got 2 of the replacement sets, never even took them out of the box cause I figured they'd be recalled too after reports of the weld fails, and they were. Should've kept the first set.
"What is this thing? I don't know." Then he throws it. This is the best channel on UA-cam.
Welcome, where have y'all bin for all this time?
I still think these are beautiful cars. But I’m British so what Would I know. But give my a thumbs up for driving a 53 Chevy

Get that camera guy a tripod, he's not chasing a criminal on cops 😂 making me dizzy with the wobble cam haha
I wonder what a guy had to pay for that shity ass filming lol
Looks like hit the lottery on this fucking Corvette got a whole new camera crew and everything
I hope it doesn't ruin this channel LOL
It would have been so awesome if Derek at the end of the day was like can I pay you with IOU lol
Agreed. I hope Derek sees this. There was another show I used to watch -- just some guys with tripods. Then the channel got sponsored and they went all Hollywood. Shows are un-watchable now without Dramamine.

I thought Road Kill was the coolest show ever. Then you had to pay for the Show, now we have you and it is the best show on UA-cam. Thank you, thank you. Your videos are view in this house 24/7.
We always used a little nail to block off brake lines. A guy snagged himself one of those snazzy fitted VGG capolaters supposed to be here Saturday. Love all you do Derek, I lost my dad about a month ago, and your videos always make me smile. Keep doing you brother, thank you.
@@NoWr2Run thank you
Thanks for the support. Sorry for your loss, keep your chin up. Been there.
@@ViceGripGarage Thank you, I have watched every episode, some twice even. Your videos take me back to when I was a kid helping my dad fix up our junk. We always did it the right way... No, no we didn't, but it worked.
It's been 2 years and i still miss my dad all the time. But now it's less sad and we mostly reminisce about all the good stories we remember about him. As for the brake line, I used to twist the line until they snapped, then hammer the twisted tip dead on until it sealed itself up. Still would lose a couple drips now and then, but it worked mostly well.
Sorry for your loss man that sucks but you can always look at the bright side and I hope a feller can keep your thoughts over there. Praying for you and my advice is do what makes a guy smile :)
I hope a guy shows ol’ Cleetus how it’s done!
Hell ya brother!
@Lunsy They are equally great guys no need to bash either.
@Jeffrey Bamford they even went to australia and sent a burnout car from the states to do burnouts.
@Lunsy no correct..James does almost do all the work..so what?
@Lunsy i take it you never watched cleetus in the beginning he did pretty much all the work on Leroy himself
Did I hear a guy say "pfffft...schedulabadella" at 38:07 while tightening bolts? These types of infamous hilarious quotes will keep a guy watching and rewinding over and over ;-)
Dear Derek @vicegripgarage
I’m writing to you from 2023, watching this episode with my wife , questioning why you didn’t use the lift at times. She told me to “bleep bloop him and ask” and here I am. One, I’m so proud she pays attention and couldn’t be happier with my wife. B, so glad you’re so entertaining. It’s relaxing and fun to watch. And 3, thanks for not sticking with this camera crew, they didn’t do you any favors. It was admittedly hard to watch and felt like “Monster Garage” nor “Vice Grip Garage”
Keep it up, we all love what you do!
Hands down my favorite UA-cam channel.

"Gotta find somewhere to put this so I can lose it." My life in one sentence.

Using a Sawzall on the fan shroud...now that is ingenuity and spur-of-the-moment thinking and improvisation that made America truly great. And Chip Foose is probably eating his heart out right now.
Although he pretends otherwise he knows exactly what's he's doing. A really entertaining show and I'm enthralled finding new episodes with old dinosaurs he breathes life back into. I'm a believer
“I don’t like shiny things they make me uncomfortable”🤣😂
Its just, I get nervous, ya know?
I totally understand.
The problem with shiny things is you're always having to shine them.
Shiny things just tend to be more expensive so when you break them, you know you are further in the hole.
I've worked with hillbillies that hate anything new or shiny. They can't relax, they feel like mom's gonna cuff 'em in the head any second.
Love this UA-cam channel! You can be having a really bad day, and one of Derek's videos will set everything right again. Thanks, buddy!

There's almost always a plug in the radiator where you can run a thermal switch that activates at a pre-detetmined temperature. Use one rated at 180 degrees F and use it as your fan ground with a constant 12v source to the fans. Radiator hits 180 and grounds the circuit. Fans run until coolant is cooled down. Make sure you have continuity to chassis on the radiator!

It makes so much more sense now. I was wondering how he ever thought that craptastic malaise engine would do acceptable burnouts.
Back in the day, we'd build up an engine with some mods. In my world, a pretty radical cam with a good lope will still bring tears to my eyes! We'd button it up, take it to the Dawsonville square, then ride round and around until we attracted enough attention, then we'd park to show off our work. Inevetably, one of the spectators would come over, poke me with his elbow, wink and say, "That thang's got a cam in it ain't it?" Got tired of mansplaining about duraration and such, so we shortened the answer, "Shore does have a cam in it! I was talking to a fellow over at the Chevrolet place and he said he reckoned they was puttin' a cam in just about all of 'em before they loaded 'em on the car hauler at the plant."
I know bout that Dawsonberg square.... been there many times...ran around it in my 67 396 4 spd many times... even after puttin a Crane cam in it...wish I'd went with Crower... Played softball at many parks around that area with Lannie & Mike Henson and Jimmy Wilson Leroy Harper and Bobby....
@@davidwiley3440 I guess I like the place since I've been here for over six decades, moved five times, owned five houses, worked in D'ville but never owned property or lived outside the county. They married later, but on the nights he was supposed to show up at her house and didn't, she went out looking. He tried often to outrun her, but he couldn't shake her for anything.
