How to Upgrade Your Tesla Model 3 Skid Plates - TESBROS
Вставка

- Tesla Model 3's OEM skid plates are made out of fiberboard - which is basically a cardboard composite material. It's easily susceptible to water damage, swelling and warping if in direct contact with the elements, and rips or tears due to hitting low curbs or driving over rough areas. There's one in the front and one in the back covering the drive units.
These aluminum skid plates have sound dampening material on the inside to decrease road noise, while fully protecting your drive train. It's a win-win. Never again worry about hitting a puddle or bottoming out.

Hello, for the replacement screw, the T40, do you have a link to this specific part? I'm not sure what it looks like as the video doesn't have the detail, and nor is there a picture of it on the tesbros webpage. Thanks!
I see no one bothered to answer you. I needed the same answer. I have mine apart now discovering it on my own. I could use a new bolt or 2 as well.
The bolt is 6mmx 1.00. The length is 20mm. The big flat body washer is 25mm diameter (with 6mm hole in center)
Could you add a link to this video onto the product page on your website? I had a hard time finding the install instructions for those larger screws that were included.
The front valance (bumper) plate and rear diffuser plate also seem to be made out of that same fiberboard material. Do you offer metal replacements for those as well? My front valance is damaged.
is this still a problem for the tesla 3, 2022?
What’s the length of the t40?
is it okay that there are exposed slots on the skid plate?
Could you clarify where you're referring to?
@@tesbrosthe open slots on the plate itself. Like is it bad that it’s not totally enclosed?
Great overview, thank you! Currently thinking about installing this on my Y. As the car has a bit more offroad capacity - these plates become even more useful!
We'll be selling the Model Y plates really soon!
My 2019 M3 crappy OEM just broke. Just ordered a metal one on Amazon
Results and all in $? Just purchased and a week later a small piece came off that was taped on 😢
What model of Quick Jack is that for the Model 3?
we use QuickJacks BLX6000
Would it be possible to do the job by using 2 jack stands on one side of the Model 3 at a time?
Yes but it’ll be tight. I’ve done it before though. Just make sure everything is secure before getting under there.
Same question as Noel Gosom: Any significant changes in added-weight?
The combined weight of the two OEM skid plates is about 5lbs and these aluminum ones are about 25lb combined weight. I've had them on for about a week and haven't noticed change in my range.
I thought they used a composite flexible material for a reason?
Tesla's Model 3 originally had composite skid plates because they’re lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and cheaper to make, helping with efficiency. Upgrading to metal ones adds durability for rougher driving conditions and more protection from debris, but the composites were a good balance of protection and cost.
hi, what’s the length of the 10mm bolt? I’m missing bolts.. thanks
I would check with Tesla parts first - epc.tesla.com/ - this will tell you exactly what you need and can probably offer the best price. It's a starting point at least
What’s the weight difference between the OEM parts and these Tesbros parts? Tracking my Model 3 and considering upgrading to protect parts from below.
The combined weight of the two OEM skid plates is about 5lbs and these aluminum ones are about 25lb combined weight. I've had them on for about a week and haven't noticed change in my range.
I'm doing the job now and it feels like about 5lbs each to me.
With the amount of water my stock ones seemed to have absorbed, I think my aluminum plates may actually be lighter.
Would it work for my Tesla 3?
Yep! We have it back in stock now.
@@tesbros what I want to make sure is I don’t know if it’s skid plate or not. It’s definitely not a metal part. It’s btw the center metal part and the front bumper. Is it called skid plate? Looks like plastic. And I want to order the right part. All of a sudden I heard some crack noise and saw underneath and the plastic (?) part was torn off about 5 inch
@@Yetyetyetssp yes, those are skid plates. The OEM Tesla ones are made out of a plastic/fiberboard material. Scroll to the last photos on the product page and it’ll show you my original ones too if you want to compare: tesbros.com/products/model-3-skid-plates?variant=42132897202394
Would you be able to replace these using a set of low profile ramps to drive up on and backup onto?
Yes! As long as the ramps are tall enough for you to fit under to do this. And secure enough where the car doesn't roll of course.
Hard to see from the video but the skid plate next to the rear bumper is often full of dirts and debris. Is that the one you replaced or is it the next skid plate right after? (Further towards the center).
I’m not sure I completely understand the question. There are only two skid plates - one in between the front tires and one in between the rear tires. We replaced them both in the video. There is a rear diffuser between the rear skid plate and the rear bumper - that may be the part you’re referring to?
@@tesbros That diffuser is full of dust and road debris,,, im having hard time removing it.. it seems you need to remove the skid plate first to remove the diffuser.. but since i can't lift the model 3 it is too difficult to reach the skid plate, You need someknd of lift system to lift the vehicle.. and that thing is so heavy im not really willing to crawl under it… so im trying to clean the diffuser whoch i did today and was able to remove some sand and rock enough to fill a coffee cup.
Does anyone know the specific bolt size to replace lost bolts?
You have all 10mm bolts for the front and rear, but there are 2 15mm ones near the battery pack on the front plate. (If you are getting this aluminum plate, the two 15mm bolts need to be replaced wit the 2 T40 Screws/Washers the kit comes with. You’ll need a T40 hex bit for these.)
Are the front and rear available for purchase separately, or do you have to buy both?
At the moment we are only selling them together
@@tesbros Thanks.
Model y?
Yeah that what I was thinking about.
We will offer that one too! Not sure when, but soon.
@@tesbros Great news! I will watch my mailbox closely. :)
@@tesbros thank you
Y’all should provide screws for the people that are replacing this after it’s been damaged
If you need those, we recommend getting them through Tesla parts
Awesome!! I need a set for my Model Y - We need them for the wheel wells as well.
We'll be selling Model Y soon!
@@tesbros Cool! Hopefully they’ll have some water escape vents? The current material does not like it when you go into deep water. Sometimes it’s impossible to avoid. All the material in the wheel wells shifted. I had to realign it all and secure it again. Wish the material in the wheel wells was sturdier.
