- The Tesla Model Y's OEM skid plates are made out of plastic. It's easily susceptible to damage or warping if in direct contact with the elements or by hitting low curbs or driving over rough areas. There's one in the front and one in the back covering the drive units. So, we decided to replace them with aluminum, sound-dampening plates.

What issues have you had with the OEM skid plates?
I would of put a dab of blue loctite on the bolts going back in, but that just me. Just incase people don't have a torque wrench that a good alternative. Nice video

@@tesbros I haven't got my Model Y yet, ordered it in February, but I did but your skid plates for it. Your website said it was the last one in stock, so I didn't want to risk it waiting for my car and decided to get them before they were gone!
Kinda amazing that in two different videos about these skid plates you never mention who makes them, where to get them or links to them at all. Should that not be like the first link and thing said?
We don't sell these anymore. RPM Tesla does have these same ones though for the Model 3 and Y I believe.
Nice product and can help reduce risk of road damage to the plastic battery coolant nipple but at $500 I'd rather let the insurance company fix it.
Is vehicle in the video 2022 or 2023?
Seems like metal plate you installed matches 2020-2022 version plate. Most websites says it won’t fit for 2023 Texas built model y

Quick question. Did it really reduce the noise in your car?
Great question. It does in the same way that our floor mats are designed to reduce road noise. So, it's designed with that in mind, but from my experience, it's only a slight difference. The main reason for this upgrade is protection, but it does add a thicker barrier and foam padding, which is better than before.
If i dropped a tool in the frunk area, will i be able to get it if i remove the skid plate?
Uh oh. Yes, most likely but sometimes may be stuck in parts. May need to use a flexible camera to find it.
Are these skid plates still available for a 2023 MY LR? I can't seem to find them on the TESBROS website. The link in the video description is broken.

Do the metal replacement plates cause increased heat retention around the motors?
No, it's aluminum which is a good heat conductor, allowing heat to pass through easily and not retain the heat
To be safe, did you torque those bolts to spec…did I miss it?
I didn't have my torque tool then but I'd recommend 22lbs or so. I stopped right as it was tightened using the ratchet tool.
Would it sound louder if rocks are hitting this vs the plastic oem cover?
Haven't noticed it being louder on my Y.
