They are always the one who got away because it never lasts long enough for them to be the one who becomes the routine. Treasure the memories but don't live in regret.
@cade2770 Are you completely ignorant of how important blues is to metal and that rock is a separate genre unto itself that encompasses everything from CCR, Black Flag, Nirvana, and Swans to the Shins, The Cure, Cannibal Corpse, Lightning Bolt, and Lynyrd Skynyrd all under a diverse array of subgenres within subgenres?
How can one song make me rage cry and/or weep at the experience or sight of something beautiful and you can't hold it in? I fucking love Deafheaven. These guys are masters of their craft.
So, I am 61. I come from classic rock roots but pretty much leaving that behind in hopes of discovery of newer and inspiring music. Deafheaven ended up in my online playlist due to UA-cam's awesome algorithm...I'm serious! I have music streaming at work and this song made me stop and take notice. This is unlike any other Black Metal I have heard. It shakes off the typical black metal jacket and hybridizes itself into a seamless joining of genres. Brilliant and innovative.
I noticed in past few years lots of older people older than me I’m 58’ people in their 70s and 80s old who are listening to ‘Buckethead’ these days. instrumental. These listeners are into ambient space (electric tears, interworld stuff buckethead does. Peaceful. Not buckethead coo coo clocks from hell. Beaten with sledges. Ripped torn from black space. Buckethead has largest discography over any artist. Sometimes releasing 7 albums a month.
That ending with the high notes played with tremollo picking reminds me of the ending of Steven Wilson's 'The raven that refused to sing'. So damn beautiful
Amazing, I have discovered this band couple days ago. Every track is a new adventure. Long time forgotten joy of listening. This is music. Choruses give kinda Patton-esque hints. Beautiful.
This is the best album i've heard this year. This is the breath of fresh air this metal genre really needs. Amazing masterpieace, from start to finish.
Absolutely stunning track to start the record. Had me smiling from ear to ear when I first heard it on the NPR stream. It's still Deafheaven we know and love from Sunbather, but so, so different. The guitar licks, clean vocals and the piano make me think of this almost as a 90s britpop song, for crying out loud! So glad that they included it in the setlist for the tour.
Aspiniou Damn it, I was trying to not spoil the setlist for myself. seeing them on the 28th ☺ Cant wait to hear this one, one of my favs from the album
One of the greatest openers for an album, in my opinion. Ordinary Corrupt Human Love is more than what I could ask for from Deafheaven and they really set a high bar both musically and progressively. This could even be their best album by far, and that says a lot coming from me, as I've always been a huge fan of their older material. Can't wait to see them for the second time next month.
Wonderful way to start the album. I love how artistically liberated they are with this album. It’s really hard to put this in any sort of genre and that’s the way music should be. This comes straight from the soul
THIS was what I liked the most about the album. Its so honest. This is them, this is their sound. No pretending, no trade-offs. They are going with what they wanted to make. It feels so mature, as if they finally conquered and mastered what their music is about.
This song needs a award for most beautiful album intro of the year. To.me it defines deafheaven.. Kerry's beautiful guitar cry sound reminds me of the ending of true love from Coldplay. I think it's so amazing.
blissful and esoteric. in my opinion, i prefer this to be the closer rather than opening. worthless animal is undeniably heart-wrenching, but this has the surge of emotion that is both cathartic and depressing, just like the pecan tree and gifts for the earth does. deafheaven never failed. this is more than enough for me to listen everyday till they release their next album.
[Nadia Kury] "He pained, shifting his attention toward the mirror across the road Back into his daydream The spliff burned his fingers the second he drank, and he tossed it toward the gutter The smoke burned into his eyes, blinding him As he blinked through the tears, the pain began to recede Back down the promenade and homeward bound, as he approached the intersection of Brooklyn and Lakeshore, a flock of geese burst from the darkness and flew, shrieking into what was left of the evening." [Verse 1] In a dark tunnel And new dawn approaching With a sphere of light Ever glowing [Verse 2] And then the world will know Will know of you Of all things love Of all things true [Nadia Kury] "He looked up to watch them form a ghostly Chevron with flashes of white from their exposed chest, blinking like so many eyes. Crossing the street drenched him in fluorescent light, and he quickened his pace until he reached the softer light of the street lamps." [Verse 3] Let it go as it grows on forever And let it go Let it go as it grows Breathe it in Let it go as it grows on forever And we breathe it in And we breathe it in And then the world will grow And then the world will grow And then the world will know Of all true love, true
One of his worst reviews ever, and most people can tell. Like 60/40 dislikes to likes haha. It's a great piece of music that doesn't actually sound like anyone else despite it pulling influence from the styles he mentioned. But he gave the Slowdive album from last year an even lower score of 4, so sometimes I just feel like he doesn't have a soul. I don't see how at least a good chunk of the stuff on this album, and song, can't get you in the feels in some way.
Same. I love Fantano but I strongly disagree with him on this review, first review of his I've ever had to dislike. It's like he didn't even take the time to dissect the album and the way he shit on it so hard, it read like a 3 or a 2, not even a 5. Awful review.
He rates his albums by genre, not as a collective whole of all music. As far as metal goes, he usually gives those the lower scored reviews. He said Judas Priest's "Firepower" was "the greatest heavy metal album of the decade" yet only gave it an 8, yet he gave an 8 to both Kanye's "Ye" and Pusha T's "Daytona" without giving them nearly as much praise in those reviews. He simply just enjoys rap more than metal for the most part.
I purchased this cd recently and I love it.Been into them since sunbather and they just keep getting better.I love metal and could care less about the desire to label this true or false.I just know when my ears like it that's all that matters.
One thing that I love so much about this album and which I think is so interesting is the thick Americana. I don't know how they captured it so well or if it was unintentional or maybe I'm the only person that even feels this way, but I can practically smell the apple pie baking
Some people won't ever find someone that they love, and at this point the idea of having to love somebody has become too stressful for me. So I guess I accept that ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Don't fall into the pit of self pity. If you truly want someone, you must ask yourself what it is you have to offer them in return. You aren't dumb, you aren't worthless, do not let yourself tell yourself this.
The day you sent me this song is still one of the hardest. I wish I could go back and appreciate you more. I hope I can see you again. I hope that soon I can stop replaying this song, over, and fucking over, crying, thinking of the moment I first heard it, over-analyzing the lyrics, and knowing you meant the message. I miss you.
@@heisenbones I still feel broken. I hate how much I think about him. It's crippling at times. We haven't even spoken in months and it still hurts. Thank you for asking. It's nice to know someone gets it.
I’m here with ya mate. Six months into forgetting, I was haunted by her black hair laying next to me in bed while the heat sandwiched me between dreams. Its time to wake up from the dream and step into the light at the end of the tunnel - let’s keep moving forward.
Not deaf, I just like how confident and free they sound here. Not even saying this is their best album, but they are doing whatever the fuck they want and still sounding like Deafheaven. They mastered their sound. I really appreciate that.
At the beginning I didn't take it seriously, in the middle I thought: it's actually good and almost at the end I was impressed, it's like a black metalhead serenading his girlfriend 😅😅
they really did something incredible with this one
I said goodbye to the one who got away a few days ago. I'll never forget her. She changed me forever and I'll always love her most. I can't help it.
It's been a year, bub. how you doing these days?
two years now
❤️🔥 im happy she changed your life, contacts with eternity in the time order are fearfully ephemeral
The pain recedes eventually.
They are always the one who got away because it never lasts long enough for them to be the one who becomes the routine. Treasure the memories but don't live in regret.
This song, to a person with any degree of emotional sensitivity and modern angst, will strike a chord so powerfully that it cannot be forgotten
Here here, can't ever forget how some of their work has made me cry.
Darn tootin' boy howdy 😊
If this represents the future of black metal, heavy music, or rock in general I am so here for it. Just beautiful.
This isn’t rock music, deafheaven isn’t rock music

It's post metal
"dream house", "brought to the water" and this, what an incredible run of opening tracks
Real talk. Kerry is hit or miss with ending the album, but he knows how to start one.

I listened to this song in my mom's hospital room when she was dying, and when my dog was taking her last breaths.

Or maybe you're just clueless, and they've made a banal, soulless post-rock album with black metal influences. Fucking greenhorns, I swear.
