Lyrics
shadows extend east
and Cortazar stares at women shuffling by who blot their lips from violent men
and say "god bless you"
I sulk with pause and
loving mariachi soars against the red and yellow tents of strangers
gifting geese the ends of bread.
8, 12, 13 hours and the people keep fighting for sleep, for rest...
i'm reluctant to stay sad
life beyond is a field a flowers
my love is a nervous child lapping from the glowing lagoon of their presence
my love is a bulging, blue-faced fool hung from the throat by sunflower stems

This is the heaviest ad for Levi's that I've ever seen
rofl.. So spot on. thought i was the only one wondering :-D
Lol
Gotta admit this made me laugh
I spit out my soy latté
LOL. fuck
I discovered this band through a black metal elitist. The irony 🤣😂 He tried to insult me by telling me I probably listen to Deafheaven, now I have new listening material 😁
😂🤣
they're better than most, if not all of the cvlt trash elitists consider 'true' or whatever. It's okay to not like something, you just don't have to be a piece of shit about it. Fuck him, DFHVN is great.
I’ll do you another solid, go listen to Numenorean “Adore” album. And Møl “Jord” album.
What a fu¢k nut...deafhaven IS elite, the elitist's opinion is obsolete
awesome :D
It's like a big, warm eleven-minute hug. This song makes me so happy.
Andrew Smith it makes me miss something or someone, I don't know what...
@@BrainBurnStudios I'd second you on that. :]
What, 11 minutes?!.... Not listening to this for that long.
I would never expect that from a black metal track
@@fernandohenriqueribeiro9337 they have black metal influences but they’re really doing their own thing, I know they don’t label themselves, you need to listen to the album “sunbather” if you haven’t yet
i like how organic the drums sound in this. No triggers or beat mapping to the grid. Sounds raw and authentic.
I adore how personal this video feels. It's like reading a family album.
The drumming is beyond this world.
Yeah
No, it isn't
8:18 and onward...
I've totally looped that part more times than I'd like to admit.
Never fails to remind me to get out there and see the world and all it has to offer. Despite many failures, setbacks, heartaches, losses and pain. Enjoy life while you can. That's the vibe. We're here for a good time, not a long time. 👍
Id say from 7:30, great section on this song, never really liked deafheaven but this is awesome.
Yeah same. This section makes me want to be a better person.
Fuck me, been in hospital since a car crash, feeling a bit miserable and broken. Then I remembered to put on Deafheaven, and thank god I did. Gorgeous.
Rest up, you got this 💪
How are you doing now, mate? I hope you're better!
@@austins.6805 yes mate, back at work and everything
@@AidyShaw Happy to hear it!
@@austins.6805 thanks mate.
this dude is the best drummer I have ever heard man he is going buckwild and doing it perfectly.
He is fantastic. However, I'd like to bring up Louis Cole. Specifically his work in Clown Core. Dude plays synth with one hand while doing intricate top work with the other and pulling off absolutely psychotic double bass patterns and speaking in...binary? Cursive zalgo text? Random face noises? Dude's so good that watching him play broke my brain for the entire first night I knew of him and it still absolutely blows me away like six months later.
listen to fell voices
I've slowed down the last 4 minutes of this song numerous times to try to understand everything he's doing. It's sublime drumming.
This song makes me think "Do something once in your life, at least ONCE"
the Sangria eXperiment liking your comment totally counts as my nice thing, right?
Hahahahah tottally Black metal vibe! Hahaha
🙏❤️❤️❤️
Even burying a body
It makes think maybe life is worth living
I played it fo the 1000th time today as I walked my dog on the grass and I couldn't help crying of joy. This music is so connecting with the simplest things of life and good vibes.
At 63, I love all types of music and these guys are a breath of fresh air, all their stuff so fucking beautiful and then raw! Love it
Deafheaven goes to the beach
😂😂😂
Beach come to Deafheaven.
Deafheaven goes to the heaven.
they'll probably be sunbathing ;)
probably brought to the water
In my 40s and out of touch but this blew me away. They've combined the west coast emo hardcore world with metal in a beautiful way. Glad these kids up d the ante. Respect!
I can absolutely confirm that. This band has it. Hell yeah
And a little grunge/alternative rock like The Smashing Pumpkins either... love it... GrungEmEtal
Let me grab the other oar......
Very well put
I cant hear any WCEMHC on it tbh
The only black metal band that make me thankful to be alive
It's not Black metal. It's Blackend shoe gaze. But I like it. I like it.
@@skinhead5 They've used the tools of black metal to create an entirely different sonic landscape. It's like a cross between Weezer and Satyricon or something.
@@FistfulofFlags It's shoe gaze music mixed with black metal. Creating a very yet lovable new sound.
@@skinhead5 that's called post black metal/blackgaze dude.
@@user-be4nj5yk3e That's what I said. "Dude "
i am much older than these dudes, and listening to metal music since the 80s....best band out there right now.
You should check out Ne Obliviscaris. Especially their song Eyrie.
aynen abim be
It’s cooler to be supportive than to gate keep lol
This sounds like you would play immortal and Dinosaur Jr at the same time.
Best comment
That's exactly what i hear, too
To me thats not necessarily a bad thing
@@deathtomichaelknagge4397 me either. I love dino jr and black metal
@@deathtomichaelknagge4397 check out the band Weakling. It's the guitarist of asunders other band.
The benefit of not buying into musical politics, genre snobbery, etc. is being able to just enjoy this for what it is. Deafheaven and ANTI- never disappoint. I love the fact that Tom Waits and Deafheaven live under the same umbrella. Keep it up guys, fucking awesome.
Black Surfgaze has never sounded so good!
“Wholesome black metal”
Wholemeal gluten free Black metal
black metal for the children
it must not distract the kids from buying products while it plays in the background of my edgy-ish skateshop in the mall
@@FetalJuice88 Ahhhh gotta love such rich, smug arrogance
Hahahaah TRUE ARISK BLACK METAL....this band is the JOKE OF THE CENTURY. Idont know how they play without people throwing tomatos over them.kkkk this mix of gay core with thus screamings kkkkkkk TURD DETECTED
This song has the ambiance of Sunbather and the riffage and heaviness of New Bermuda. It’s a perfect blend of sounds from both fantastic albums and I am not disappointed at all. The new record is going to slay.

Let’s get this legendary song 1 million views
It will come true soon, 999250 now
I am the 1 millionth view!
The world doesn't deserve this song, we are not worthy
I love it when people tell me I can't like metal because I don't wear the standard issue clothing, haven't got shitloads of tats or piercings, and I like Deafheaven. I once complimented a guy on his Pallbearer t-shirt and he told me "you can't like metal". Fuck sake. He probably didn't know who Disembowlment were.
I feel a heavy warmth taking over as piece progresses
Idk about everyone else, but something happens at the 6 minute mark, hits ya in the feels.
It's weird...cuz a few weeks ago I was sort of praying for new Deafheaven music...well looky here. Take that *a e t h i e s t s. . . .*
something refreshing about this band.
So to me, Sunbather was the yearning for a better life. New Bermuda was receiving that life, yet facing new problems that came with it. And now I sense a feeling of pure bliss and happiness, without the grief. Maybe this is the theme for the new album.
goddamn bro u right
100% agree.
Beautiful words, and true with that.
Siphesihle Luthango and unfortunately most stories end on the third act after the protagonist finds peace...
Then infinite granite is probably what comes after that life
I woke up to this. It's a beautiful day. Thanks, Deafheaven
The guitar work in the middle and end are giving me a 90's feelling..very good stuff
Can all the musical geniuses in the comments field who take issue with this cohesive 12 minute track written in an unmarketable genre in a broken industry please send me all your superior work? I want to hear the music of the gods.
Adam Seneca if that's the bar for artistic criticism, then I guess you can only be a critic if you work in the field of what your criticizing?
"this burger isn't very good"
Sorry man, you have to be a chef to have that opinion.
"man, I didn't like that movie much"
Once you make your own 100 million dollar film, then you can talk.
You do realize how dumb that is, right?
Philosophical Skeptic this would make tons of sense if it took the actual comments into consideration. For example the comments which complain about it being "surfcore" or "hipster trash," etc. The burger critic is making an appeal to his subjective experience, while 99% of the hate in this comments field is without form or direction
Philosophical Skeptic // I feel like the direction in which Adam is taking his point is a little different. People say that Deafheaven is bad comparing the group to other, different artists/groups in the metal scene. It’d be like going to a restaurant, ordering a burger, than complaining that the burger didn’t taste exactly like the one you have at Wendy’s. The burger analogy aside, people need to stop acting like they know everything about music and what’s good and bad. As someone who is in the art, music, and theater scene, I have no fucking clue what I’m doing half the time, but my style is my own. Yes, all art is borrowed and/or inspired by another piece in SOME WAY, but it’s still my own, and it wouldn’t be fair to lump me in with some band like Dads or Scale The Summit and call me bad because I’m not just like them. There’s no set boundary to music, it can be so many different things, and rather than pining for the bad in things and drawing comparisons, maybe appreciating the art for what it is, an expression of its creator, there would be a lot of changed, more satisfied people with entirely new understandings of things.

This is the best Deafheaven song since Dream House fight me. This is the best mixing they've ever had. I'm so excited for the new record!
This is the most post black metal thing I’ve seen all day
Gangster Spongebob exactly 👌
It's Kvlt!!! 😜
All year
sound more like screamo.
@@Megatherionmms You might as well say it's pop music lol
I love how you guys keep pushing the boundaries of metal scene. Music is the most trascendal art expresion and it should not be quartered by clichés and conventionalisms. Love the Morrissey vibe in the song. Love the evolution of it. Love how you can make some really quallity music with being edgy but being mature and young at the same time. Cheers.
I can literally feel the smell of flowers when I listen to this
I love to dig for extremely obscure, underground black metal.
I also think Deafheaven is the best band of the 2010s.
I wish people would stop pretending you can’t like many styles of music. I do not care what genre this is, it’s some of the best music I’ve ever heard.
Dinosaur Jr and Panopticon sitting on an island = Deafheaven. I actually feel like I had a warm shower after listening to this 🙂
I love these guys chord structures, very uplifting .
oasised black metal. And i like it. I don't know why people hate on this band. This is truly amazing.
There's some people who doesn't like music, like genres
Black metal fans are the worst gatekeeping self-righteous (possibly Nazi) losers ever
Ikr, if you dont like it because it's against your genre just leave bruh
i'm dying, this is so gorgeous..
I cried. I wept happy tears. Never stop making music. please
pussy
God this song is fucking amazing!! So many different feelings, influences, atmospheres, etc. in one incredible piece
I love the little "rock and roll" solo at 4:42.
Any day Deafheaven release new music is a great day
Just listened to their new record and it's a killer ! No fillers...Near is one of the most beautiful thing I've ever heard, They 've hit the right balance between Black and Shoegaze adn it's a deeply rewarding experience. They have topped even Sunbather in my heart.
I love this so much. One of the most heartwarming videos I've seen in a long time and the music is able to reach so many corners of my emotional self that I can't even express it. Great work.
The last three and a half minutes of this song are what you need to break free. The footage paired with that sweet sound, tearjerking honestly.
Life beyond is a field, a field of flowers... 🌻🌻🌻
I had the pleasure of seeing these guys opening up for Ghost back in 2016 at the Wiltern in LA. Heavily underrated band! Love 'em!
I seen Deafheaven a couple of times and every year they just keep getting better and better
8:18 and I started to cry. remind me sorrow but yet beautiful of life.
I can't describe how tracks (albums in fact) like this make me feel confident about how I love music and how much it means to my everyday life. When this dropped as a single, I couldn't withstand BM vocals yet, though Canary Yellow, perhaps thanks to mellow intro, somehow managed to instill itself in my mind. Recently, probably due to Infinite Granite, I've embarked on the journey of rediscovering Deafheaven and oh boy. Ordinary Corrupt Human Love has got to be one of my absolute top favourite albums of all time. The way these tracks can pull "some strings inside" is otherwordly. Especially Honeycomb. Despite the harsh vocal, the message and the arrangement make me feel like barely any other song can. This has got to be one of the most positive, heartwarming tunes I will ever have heard in my life. Thank you Deafheaven, and thank you community for being there and giving this band the praise it truly deserves, for whatever reason you might be there. I wonder how many more pieces like this await me and I'm grateful I can experience them just in time when I need them. My 2023 is definitely the year of Deafheaven. Aaaaaaand if you are reading this, I hope you have a wonderful day.
the intro sounds a lot like a reversed Unrequited, and it brings so many memories back. I'm very glad you guys released new music, for us.
My favorite song this year so far. I hope that the rest of the album will be just as great!
idk how a song can be so rageful yet so emotional at the same time. i love this band
Excellent drumming. Their sound blends SO WELL!
It made me tear up a little with the emotion. I love that visceral empathy music. Beautiful guys👍🏼
4:42 when you're hipster black metal but also like some hard rock
Groovy
Who cares?
It's like a perfect combination of surrealism and simplicity. Emotions interpreted with purity in a song
Man, this song just hit it home. Beautiful arrangement and then the riffs were fantastic. The video as a whole made me homesick for the bay.
i am a simple man, i see deafheaven, i go to the comments to see if there are any elitists talking shit about the band
ya i saw u hate the elitist just from ur pic
Far out man - how do you write ten min plus songs that don't just have catchy riffs, but amazing motifs, whole passages that spin the tune in new directions - all layered with such whimsical beauty? Deafheaven are just something else. Loving the new album too :)
Deafheaven gives me hope for the future of what sometimes seems to be a dying breed
it sounds like a constant wave you keep surfin and surfin - and always with a little smile on your face
i loved this band so fucking hard, this really makes a person happy
Album of the year incoming!
Sunbather happened upon us 5 years ago, and this song still sounds fresh, as if 2013 was yesterday. Amazing work!
This song is so floating, great transitions, not many bands can do something like this
This song helped me more than you'll ever know.
I love everything about this. Everything. Flawless music and flawless video. also have chill Lynch vibes into. hype is real.
I loved this group and this album so much... why did they decide to turn into a dream pop band?!
Over the last 35 years I've seen so many bands come and go, techno, britpop, shoegaze, metal of all genres... I haven't been excited about any band for a long time until discovering these guys a couple years ago.
This is so great. Picked up from new Bermuda. Still kept the guitar solo. Love the slow passage about 2/3 of the way in that didn’t have to be its own track. I’m so excited. Thanks guys!
it's beautiful, can't wait to listen to your record with chelseawolfe
This is my new favorite long song. It’s like standing in the middle of a hurricane but you can still see the sunrise over the horizon.
How do I even thumb up this video more than once? This band is awesome and I've just discovered them a few days ago.
I think this is their best song by far.Hyped for the new album
Deafheaven has finally embraced just how “hipster” they are. I love it! Keep being different!
Kyle Anderson yay!
Hipster af, so what? The intrumentation in this is fucking credible. Genre-dyfing.
what makes them hipster, exactly?
So I guess not dressing up as a tryhard makes you a hipster? That's pretty new info to me. Never knew metalheads were such fashion experts.
Yeah dude don't you know to be a part of this counter culture you have to subscribe to the uniform and if you don't you will be judged
It's nice to see how the bands mature, the past of these guys was very hard, but they have already grown, the storm has passed, and it is good to see them be happy now, music continues to maintain that essence, but they are not the same sad kids anymore , happy for them
Cheers and support from France !
Deafheaven, you are awesome. Tthis video is SO beautiful in so many ways !
Have New Bermuda on repeat since its release. Can't wait for this.
The best music video in black metal history
emo*
@@nassiemartinez4399 it's a mix of black metal and hard rock
@@nassiemartinez4399 wtf is even emo about it. The entire song is almost smashing pumpkins with blast-beats and shrikings
It's shoe gaze . But Blackend. But I like it.
This is the happiest they've ever sounded!!! I'm so happy,, also i love that in this world exists a music video for a Metal song showing a metal band having fun in San Fransisco
I didn't know this was coming out! I love the new track and am psyched for the new album!
It's quite surreal to hear Deafheaven make happy music
not that surreal
Clearly missed the entirety of sunbather then.
Seriously? That album was depressing
Mercutio
Nah mate the deafheaven fanbase is depressing.
Mercutio
you're right man, lyrically, I also think Sunbather was depressing. But I don't mind this at all. I think life is two sides of a coin. You can have both.
Thank you Deafheaven. This video made me remember the small trip I did to SF. It's a beautiful place for a first timer in the US. Walking through those parks and the downtown was a complete different experience and the way they've shown it on the whole clip just brought some tears.
By the way, although this is pretty different material compared to previous albums, I really like the style. I mean, it's like listening to Iron Maiden's "Holy Smoke": Sounds like a parody song, but still keeps part of your core. And it throws happiness.
2012 first time in the US straight to SF and this video reminds me of every single moment. Great memories.
This is definitively the best sound of 2018 so far. Spectacular. See you guys in Orlando
This is really sick. Such a refreshing take on black metal
EDIT: Wow, I had only listened to the first few minutes when i made the comment. I have now realised that this is much more than a black metal song. It is an amazing post-metal trip with parts inspired by black metal. My bad. (Also this song fucking slaps)
I'VE NEVER ANTICIPATED AN UPCOMING ALBUM SO BADLY IN MY LIFE
I can’t believe that this band pulled it off. It’s just so great.
really? i didnt know..if true it's a shame. Love them too, unique sound!
Every once in a while a band will put out a record that is so desperately NEEDED, that it almost feels like they have just given you a gift and you find yourself truly thankful for the fact that the band exists. It's like a long sigh of relief....."Thank fucking God we have Deafheaven."
I like it. And I'm certain it will grow on me. Excited for the new album!
Oh my god. The end. This is beautiful.
'Hipster' always has a negative connotation. If these guys what to try something new, use a different aesthetic than what is normally associated with metal music, and sound/look great doing it, I don't see what the problem is there. Nothing has ever evolved by staying the same.
_Hipster_ means nothing at this point, just people with generic taste keep using that term as an insult...
*/mu/ck* man, you have a Rick & Morty profile pic. Pretty much 85% of people working on that show would be called _hipster_ under the common definition of that term.
/mu/ck read your own first comment.
Greg Chipelski fucking exactly
/mu/ck To be fair...
I really dig how it keeps changing. The transitions felt smooth to me, as the mood slowly shifted from a dark and heavy black metal song to a more dreamy and uplifting end.
Been on a tour of music tonight starting with the new Testament album. Then Wilderun, Arch Enemy, Kamelot, Leeway, Prong, Amaranthe, Carcass, Jump Little Children, Hammers of Misfortune, and Paradise Lost. Think this song had me jamming out most of all. Thanks for making such unique music!
Should have won the Grammy, beautiful song nonetheless
Is it blissful?
it's fucking blissful
It's like a dream
I want to dream
pull the trigger piglet
Oh it's blissful, baby. Pure bliss.
This is a kick to the face and a hug after. Masterpiece.
Guys!! That solo is amazing! I'm super excited for the new album!
