It is very easy to sensationalize well-known cases, but Emma never does that. She tells the facts but is also compassionate when necessary. That's why she does brilliant commentary on true crime.

    I kid you not...
Listening to Ed's childhood gave me chills because it is extremely similar to mine. Grew up on a 600 acre farm, completely alone, my mother was extremely religious and would emotionally and physically abuse me and say "God told her to do it". I was homeschooled K-12, no other children in my day to day life, in fact I was around more dogs in my childhood than people. By college I could count the amount of people I knew on my fingers.
Today, I'm a graphic designer with a bachelor's in Graphic Design and Media Arts, happily with the man of my dreams, and learning day by day how to assimilate into society, and despite my debilitating social anxiety...I like people!
This I think proves while child abuse can break a child, it is never an excuse for someone to murder someone else. It's not an excuse, it's not something that should be used to give sympathy towards the killer. A killer is a killer. ....full stop. 🤭

It's a perfect combination for Kenny's Crime Cult! And I do adore the "regulars" on your channel; our little family. I just wanted to say that I saw you in an episode of Money, Marry, Murder yesterday afternoon as well. You were wearing a cool looking shirt..maybe it had giraffes on it? I saw you...and all I could do was point at the screen..(whilst thinking in my head..that's "our" cult leader). I know they edit your input to bits and you don't have any control over that, but, your contributions to the topic were the most valid/on point. I really enjoyed your telling of Ed Gein's story. I've seen many videos of Gein, and I think your video brought a unique prospective to his tale. I like your European Academic style telling of his tale. What's shocking about this whole story was how nice Plainfield was. It is a really small town, with good hard-working Christian, law abiding people. I live about 2 hours away from there and have been there twice (I've been to his farm, Bernice Warden murder site, Mary Hogan murder site, his gravesite) and it's amazing to see what a normal small town it was. It is really surreal seeing a town the whole world views a bunch of ghouls, being such a nice place. The people don't bother you at all when you take photos of the places, even though I'm sure they all wish none of that stuff occurred there.

Ed Gein is from my state and a bit of Wisconsin folklore. He's not really a serial killer. He's just Ed. He asked for apple pie with a slice of cheese and then he confessed.

I've only started watching Emma's videos about 2 weeks ago and have gone through quite a lot of them. This is a story that's really made me emotionally conflicted . . . The things he did were absolutely horrendous. But I also feel sorry for this guy just a bit. I think because he had such a poor upbringing, was so brainwashed by his mother, abused by both his father and mother, not allowed friends, girlfriends, told everyone was evil and sinners. Just makes me feel sorry for him a bit.

Maybe you otta watch the original "Texas Chainsaw". Based on good old ED.
This should of been one of the first killers you heard about. You must be a fledgling. Enjoy your journey deeper into the Macabre. It's gonna be one hell of a ride.
Just gonna toss this out there for ya as well. The movie Silence of the Lambs also had a Ted Bundy "reference" in it; where Buffalo Bill was trying to load a couch into a van with a cast on his arm. That was a Bundy thing. He used that often, once he was pretending to load a boat onto his car with a fake cast on his arm to lure a woman.
Hollywood horror movies have tons of small references to actual real life nasty killers M.O.'s , have fun finding them all. 🤔

When you talked about the full moon it really resonates with me , one of my adult daughters is austisic and does have some behaviour problems and also very smart and can be very anxious, but any time there's a full moon she will behave very strange, not in a harmful way to anyone but becomes extremely anxious and can't sleep walks around the house crying, sometimes I can calm her down by just cuddly her in my bed until she falls asleep, other times I can't, this lasts a couple of days at most ,but I know when there's a full moon coming to just be prepared and her sisters are so good with her too ,I definitely believe in the full moon theory. I have insomnia due to trauma and cannot sleep in "my own company", so I watch until I fall asleep and start where I fell asleep the next day. I don't know if you've changed the heavy metal scream at the start, but that scream triggers me, my nervous system is damaged so it's a very physical thing for me. i noticed some of your videos don't have it. just felt like saying it. It would help a lot just to have lower sound on that part. Won't stop watching anyway. I "love" graphic details also, you are the best crime story teller. If I die, I hope you tell my story.❤

Emma, I agree that it would be nice to see more unknown cases. I know you’re catering to crime cult requests:) I just want to chime in and say it’s always great to hear the added info you bring to the table but yes, I like to hear newer stories too. Love ya Emma from Jodie in Texas

Just the NAME Ed Gein creeps me RIGHT out. I think the first true crime documentary I ever watched was about Ed Gein. They didn't give nearly as much information about his mom though (from what I remember). While you were talking, it made me wonder if the character of mom in the movie Carrie might have been loosely based on Ed Gein's mom. Ed's mom punished him for masturbating and Carrie's mom punished her and called her sinful when she started her period. Both natural things to happen, both kids were abused as a result of it. Ed's mom was a woman hater and didn't want her boys to lust over women or get involved in any kind of relationship with them, Carrie's mom was a man hater and basically told Carrie the exact same thing about men. I just never saw the parallel before even though I have seen several videos about him.

The reason that lie detector tests don't work on the whole is because they function based on the assumption that people show certain signs of nervousness when lying - e.g., an increased heart rate -, but someone who is a skilled liar/manipulator won't be nervous at all when lying. On the other hand, someone who is afraid that they may be sentenced for a crime they didn't commit might display exactly those signs (panic, fear) and then be considered a liar.

I really did not expect to learn something new here. As a child, this was the first serial killer case I had ever heard of.
I soaked in all the known facts, available at that time (mid 80's). This information never mentioned any suspected case, such as the missing babysitter or the jacket found close to his property. Very interesting, Emma. Thank you.
Also, I am glad that you mentioned that you read the obituaries as a youth. I did too, and I thought there was something wrong with me, for having done so.
Edited to add that, I completely lost my s#it, when you went over the whole, 'Let's hire Ed Gein as a babysitter' proposition. I laughed so much. You made my day!

I wonder if he was less picky about the ages of the bodies depending on what type of "project" he had in mind. Like women resembling his mother for his mom-suit and other age groups for upholstery. What a disgusting thought, I'm so sorry to anyone reading this 😅

While undoubtedly not his intention, Gein’s case has had as much an impact on modern horror writing and cinema as Bram Stoker or Mary Shelley. As you point out, Psycho, Chainsaw Massacre and Silence of the Lambs - plus all the stuff that they’ve influenced -
are inconceivable without Gein’s “inspiration “.
It’s also a case that proved Freud’s ideas that much of life is guided by personal, idiosyncratic, impractical and highly illogical ideas within each person’s mind.
Gein’s behavior would be beyond any understanding without looking at it through the lens of psychology.

I think his mother had issues and denial around her own sexuality
The lack of education, acceptance and understanding along with societies strong religious leanings of the times must have caused great confusion and internal strife for her
She turned even more to religion and a set of strict rules to keep herself in check all the while she still couldn’t contain her despising and distaste of men and ended up married to a weak man
Ed’s childhood seems so traumatic and must have had a major effect
His mother’s own confusion about her sexuality was certainly imprinted on the boys Ed older brother was presumably not as ill effected by their mother as he still wanted relationships but surely it must have sent them both around the bend to some degree
Ed looks going from childhood photos as though he was prone to quite severe acne which may have some bearing on his obsession with skin
    And
Imagine how lonely he must have been to get away with his crimes for over a decade and nobody took the blindest bit of notice of him or what he was about
While what he did was despicable it’s also kinda sad that nobody cared enough about him to notice
At the end of the day he was an unwell person very unwell person

That pic (almost surely NOT Ed) shows freckles, not acne. That kid looks to be about 8 yrs old.
