I tried this and it worked well. I used two tripods which is very clunky so I will most likely use this when something good is leading. I use the Pentax K-X camera with a 300X zoom lense. Also why the heck do we almost have the same equipment. Same Scanner, Almost the same camera, Great Tripod which looks identical to yours and one that has a horrible turning head which i mainly bought for the phone attachment. I do use it for the K-X camera because I don't pan with it.
I agree about the tripod! Luckily we have a good camera store about a half hour away. I have a Manfrotto tripod that is super smooth. I also have a couple of magic arms I use for opposite views and/or vertical video -Jenny
What do you mean you are not the greatest videoer out there? You have THE BEST videos I have ever seen. Especially when the sun is right. You are literally the BEST. person at least when it comes to filming trains.
Very well put. Also, if you or anyone else are looking for ideal camcorder and/or tripod upgrades, the Sony FDR-AX53 and the Cayer BV30L fluid head tripod are what I've been using for my most recent videos. The AX53 is around $1100 and The BV30L is around $150, but both are currently serving me well and, in my opinion, are well worth the price. I'd highly recommend them to anyone looking to step up their overall video quality and fine-tune their techniques.
I have a tripod that is like almost identical when panning with the BOGEN 3001. I actually bought it off Amazon (surprisingly) it was a 6.5 foot panhead tripod and it works so well. The tripod brand is Mactrem and it’s called a “PT-80” it’s a very good and smooth panhead tripod.
@@BNSF1458I agree. But someday get a Mactrem PT-80 it’s underrated and very smooth. It’s around $35 or more and it is a little light weight but I honestly don’t care as much
nice lens you got on that sony. if i even both to record video i usually just stick my phone on the tripod. i dont know why but i primarily take photos over video
Can you make a video like this showing your methods of catching trains. Maybe talk about what scanner you use and a bit about the basics of scanners and talk about ATCS.
I finally found my extra battery for my camcorder and it works once again. But if you aren't spending several hundred on a tripod with a fluid head its pretty much junk. Im so used to just using my phone its gonna be hard going back to multiple cameras.
Very informative video….could you possibly make a photography/videography basics video for those getting into photography specifically around trains? It would be really helpful knowing how to adjust the shutter speed/ISO/Aperture specifically for trains
I can say most of the stuff on Amazon is a scam but I was able to get a tripod for $30 & it’s absolutely great. Also I see you have the same drone as I do (DJI Mini 3)
The canon t7i is my sister's, but she rarely uses it and I also have a canon t1i ( I think) and I've lost the battery chargers for both of them I know the my sister is somewhere in my basement but for the t1i it's just gone I have no clue where it went
What you said about tripods is completely true! I've tried shopping for tripods in the past, and can agree that Amazon is completely useless. I eventually found a tripod used on offerup for around $60 (a little expensive, but WELL worth it!!) the Ravelli AVTP. It's the last tripod I'll ever need. It's got an amazing stock drag head, it's super stable no matter what, and makes you feel like you're moving a TV camera around or something. The only 2 caveats to this tripod are that it's VERY heavy, and that it's expensive. Honestly, these two trade offs are completely justified for the value for money and the quality of shots you get with it. No other tripod I've used compares.
heavy weight is definitely good for videography, a lot of railfans prefer lightweight but it’s better to use heavyweight, because of this is trains cause heavy shaking to the ground so it’s better to use something heavy, I’m about to get a heavyweight manfrotto tripod and manfrotto fluid head soon.
Not many point this out there but with your tripod but make sure your angles are well angled, before a train comes, check your camera screen make sure your shots aint off angle or cricked to the side since it will involve cropping to put in the perfect angle position. Many may not see this as a problem but I see this no good for myself haha. I'm always the angle professionest
The one shot of the Engineer paddling the train. I have the same engine in HO scale. #5608 Pretty good video overall. I have a tripod that I’m yet to use track side but I use it for my model review videos and it works pretty well. I’m yet to actually go out and use an actual camera yet. Just a IPhone loaded up with train videos lol.
Where id you get the cx405 camera and the bogen tripod from?, I Am Making Plans from Upgrading from hand Held phone, To a tripod and camera. Been Trying To Find Good Equipment And Gear.
@BNSF1458 it is a good camera but definitely shows its cheaper quality. The USB cord that comes with it completely doesn't work anymore after using it for 6 years...
3:56 **wheezes** I mean you aint wrong XD But, dang dude! :oo You got a sweet setup! >:D 4:39 Was that someone waving to you or just doing a arm motion XD? :OOOO
How i film trains: I take out my phone, film them, and give a wave to the crews to brighten up their day
That’s exactly what I do
Fellow bogen tripod user! Those things are solid.

Thanks for the tips, I'll make sure to put some of these in my videography of the railways.

That's nice. Some stuff off Amazon isn't too bad but it seems like usually at least the first 15 listings are always a scam

It's a nice one!
@@BNSF1458 yes it is and it’s the only BNSF engine I got I also have a BN GP9 high hood it’s # is 1748

Thanks for telling us your methods! I used a tripod but it broke so quick lol. I prefer handled anyway
Hey good vid bro!
nice lens you got on that sony. if i even both to record video i usually just stick my phone on the tripod. i dont know why but i primarily take photos over video
It's my favorite lens. Definitely need to get a working camera for it soon
I use an old Canon VF HD camcorder that my dad used to use. Had good quality but it takes time for it to focus at the most wrong moments.
Nice Video! Can you please make a tips and tricks on the CX405?

How did you get the contraption to clamp onto the tripod.
For me, I usually use the same Sony camera and a canon t7i, but when I'm not expecting to railfan, I just use my phone.

You can't beat manfrotto as far as tripods, that's for sure
I use a ONN Tripod. Haven’t used it yet but have been training.
Love your videos! If you're ever down in the Twin Cities sometime I'd love to catch some trains with you :)
That drone fail tho..best part
Great advice!
I have to try That 2 camera method on the tripod
Can you do a tutorial on how you created your channel logo.
I have to sorta walk over the tripod when panning even though I have the thing to turn it

What do you use to edit, if you don’t mind me asking?
can you do a video on how to upload the video file from the camera to youtube?

Got the CX405 off Amazon. The tripod was actually given to me, but you could probably find one off eBay
The cx405, the camera so many railfans have for some reason -- including me 😉
It's like the only decent camcorder under $500 it seems, so it's extremely popular

nah i read the thumbnail as something else for a sec
Do I even want to know 😭
Is it just me? Or does he sound like Amtrakguy365?
It strange seeing the yellow logo on BNSF
