My friend is an Arab from one of the villages in the center, he is a Muslim Arab who carries a weapon with a license, he saw all the problems that exist in the village, so he volunteered from a young age for the Civil Guard, and then he volunteered for the police and did a good job to eliminate crime in his village and around in the Arab sector, he received certificates of appreciation From the police, such a man is obviously threatened with murder all the time, and he received a license for a personal weapon. So there is no difference between a Jew and an Arab. On the contrary: the majority of Arabs do not serve in the army, do not do national service or anything, there is no law that obliges them to do so. But we have thousands of Muslims who volunteer to protect the Jews and the Arabs in the army, police and more... one of them is very famous who was a combat soldier in the Golani, was wounded It is difficult in Lebanon and he became disabled, and today he is one of the greatest exponents of Israel anywhere in the world.

It’s about painting a picture that represent truthfully the attitudes and beliefs between different groups in the Israeli nation. And for that it captures it quite well. Definitely less biased than the mainstream media at either side.

No matter how equal the laws, it means nothing if they aren't upheld. Often there is prejudice in carrying out laws. Police and the justice system don't do anything overt, but they do treat people differently.

Racism exists everywhere in the world. It isn’t the same as apartheid.
A particular judge sentencing all the Arabs and/or Muslims who commit robbery to the maximum allowed by law but sentencing Jews to the minimum allowed by law is racism.
Having a law that says the maximum penalty for a Jew who commits robbery is six months but the maximum penalty for an Arab and/or Muslim who commits robbery is six years would be apartheid.

    2. The Law of Return (1950): This law grants Jews the right to immigrate to Israel and obtain citizenship. Palestinians, including those with historical ties to the land, do not have a similar right to return
    3. Absentee Property Law (1950): This law allows the Israeli government to take control of properties owned by Palestinians
    4. Law on the Prevention of Infiltration (1954): This law has been used to restrict the entry and residency of Palestinians, particularly in terms of family reunification.
    5. Citizenship and Entry into Israel Law (2003): This law restricts family reunification for Palestinian spouses of Israeli citizens, affecting many Palestinian families by preventing them from living together in Israel

None of these laws affect Israeli citizens. And as most Palestinians won't swear loyalty to Israel (or will only do so as lip service, and backstab when opportunity rises), these laws must exist for the country's safety and well-being...

The thing is, there is law, and there is the application of the law. By law, Israeli Arabs are *almost* equal to Israeli Jews (there are differences in military service, and there is the Nation State Law which clearly socially lowers the status of Arabs in comparison to Jews). But in the application, what you will see is that administrative requests by Arabs take on average much longer, and are refused more often than similar requests made by Israeli Jews (prime example: building permits). Also, Arab neighbourhoods often have less services than Jewish ones.
To compare, it's like the US, or France, or just about any western country... In the US, for example, the law places black people, Arab people as equal to whites. But in day to day business, you see that they are discriminated against, by police, by services, their neighbourhoods are less well funded, etc...
It's called systemic racism. And that's why looking at the law texts themselves is not enough. You have to look at how these laws are applied by various administrative services.

Well if Jews are obliged to serve in the army but Muslim Arabs aren't, then maybe that could beg the question if they do actually deserve the same rights.
    Same obligations, same rights.
If that's not the case - different obligations, different rights.
Out of 2 million muslims in Israel only a few hundred serve in the IDF. I say - let them get equal rights indeed. But if they didn't, I'd say - don't expect the same treatment, really.
Those who served in the army (no matter their religion) do deserve special treatment.
Just want to clarify, about ultra orthodox Jews who reject serving in the army and don't work - they get overtreatment and they are a burden to Israeli society (they're a burden to Jews and Arabs alike).

@@mahakhatib27 I don't think the laws are usually unclear. But I do think they're unjust. DEI for example is unjust. The fact that ultra Orthodox Jews don't need to work in Israel and they're a burden to the rest of society (because the taxpayers who actually work pay for their livelihood, Jews, Arabs and anyone other than ultra Orthodox Jews).
Sure, same basic rights? Obviously BASIC rights should be the same.
But: Different obligations - Different rights.
Why is a Jewish secular citizen obliged to serve in the army but an ultra Orthodox or a Muslim isn't?
Then there should be different (not basic laws) laws applied here.
If one citizen has different duties compared to the other, different rights should apply. It only makes sense to do that.
Besides, DEI applies to Arabs. That's why a huge amount of Israel's Doctors (who actually studied in Israeli med school) are Arabs. And only about 40% of Israeli doctors studied in an Israeli med school.

Most of the Palestinians who live in Israel live in all Arab towns like Nazareth. A lot of the residents of Nazareth were ethnically cleansed from surrounding Arab villages and towns and squeezed into smaller areas. The math isn't mathing for me.... Such a small area of Israel is designated for residency/urban settlement. Approx 6% of Israel's total land area... Of that 3-4% of Israel's total land area are Arab towns/villages. (which is approximately 50-67% of the total urban areas and settlements). So if we were to even say 2%, which would be 33%, that is still a greater portion that the rest of the populous. What am I missing here?
I've had this conversation with an Arab neighbor once who explained also how different populations have different practices when using land as well. For instance you will see in almost every expansion or new neighborhood of a city, or small town, apartment buildings. Around 65-70% of Jewish Israelis live in apartments, because they live in more urban centers and its more affordable, whereas only about 30-40% of Arab Israelis live in apartments, with a preference for single-family homes due to cultural traditions and living in rural areas So the squeeze is real.
All that being said, Arabs have higher birthrates as well, so the demand is there, and the government is way to slow in addressing this issue as they did in Beit Shemesh for instance to meet the expanding Haredi population. In my opinion, Arab towns should expand their boundaries for the sake of meeting that need (while still protecting water and green areas), out of respect for this cultural difference. I say this as someone who lives in the rural areas, I have no desire to live in Tel Aviv, or Haifa and live in some massive apartment building. Arabs shouldn't be forced to change their culture, or live as a minority in a Jewish town, in order to have a home.

    - Conscription laws are not applied equally.
    - Expansion of building zones are not applied equally.
    - Marriage laws are not equal. (No civil marriage for instance, or religious monopolies)
    - Infrastructure renewal is not applied equally.
    - Scholarships are not applied only based on need.
    - Different townships have different property taxes seemingly without any logic.
Some of these "help" Arabs. Others "help" Haredi Jews. and so on. Sometimes they look like a benefit on the surface, when they demand higher levels of responsibility... Others are a reflection of Israelis treatment of peripheral towns, or of dysfunction (which a lot of municipalities are highly dysfunctional).
I am always trying to figure out what can people do in order to change things, rather than ''blame the government' for instance. How can people be proactive?

We know the police are far away, and even if they come, they don't have the backing to find the perpetrators (who are either well armed, or protected by silence).

For people to feel safe reporting to the police, and really be protected from gangs, and likewise for people to report. I have already started to see more young Arab men volunteer with the police in their national service, and I hope that more will enter into the system to make the changes needed to protect witnesses from organized crime.

Dude let people finish what they’re saying! Also the question of legal discrimination requires knowledge of the law not the knowledge of a random person on the street. Legal discrimination may be experienced as social discrimination. Eg A black person in 1940s US would have known they’re discriminated against by being stuck in a ghetto, but they might not have known it had to do with red lining, supported by federal housing policy. To answer this question about legal discrimination, we can look at the reports by human rights organizations like b’stelem, Al-haq, Amnesty International, and human rights watch

None of these people talked about housing. Palestinian families are forced out of homes in occupied East Jerusalem. They can go to court but because of discrimination they never win. Palestinians can not build a new home without a permit and but they are never given permits. So they build anyway and Israel bulldozes their house. There are no official laws for this but this is a clear example of documented inequality they experience under the law.
Palestinians are held in prison under Israel's policy of “administrative detention,” without trial. Again not an official law but a policy under the law.

Afro Americans have the lowest % of two parent families and all the opposite stats of Asian Americans. Whether it's real or not, it's how they perceive the situation and by that it becomes real to them.
One of the men in the video did point out that it is difficult for him to get a job because the employer only hired those who had done military service. The biggest is that if a Jew has a Jewish relative, he can bring him to live in Israel and get the Israeli citizenship even if he is just a convert, but a Muslim Arab can't do that to his Muslim relatives. I think the mafia issues need to be addressed but the police had to be empowered and actually caring for its citizens like a strong witness protection program. Also in terms of people being afraid that crimes happen in certain areas, this isn't unique and sadly happens to many countries with infamous crime hotspots.
Many Filipinos are afraid to go in Mindanao due to the many wars there by Islamic militants and some terrorist attacks. It's now more in control but people are still wary.
It's usually addressed when a celebrity or blogger visits the place and showcase how safe it actually is. The people from Fauda apparently for example went to some Arab villages in Israel to shoot from and they were actually welcomed well.
I guess the Jewish nature of being isolationist doesn't urge them to explore much of their bubbles but maybe some tourism in those areas could help show off the positive side of Levantine Arab culture (food is usually the best example).

The problem with crime in the Arab sector in Israel is that not only do the police sometimes not intervene because it is not worth it to them, but because the citizens themselves do not tell the police what happened. Most of the time there are eyewitnesses in the murder cases, but as soon as the police arrive to try to understand and investigate the incident, everyone swallows their tongue either because they are afraid of being murdered or because they want to kill the murderer by themselves following their culture. 😐

      Ooo. Such an interesting question...
I think it could be an interesting research to see the difference backgrounds/ancestry/or ideologies of clans who accepted Israels founding, versus those who opposed (and were forced out) and those who fled (often people with education and financial means to leave or people who were viewed as a threat). I wonder if Benny Morris or any other new historian has more info on the topic.
The population of Gaza, has slightly different ancestry than those living in say Ramallah, or Haifa for instance. But I'm not sure how much of a role it plays in their identity. Actually I watched the other day a great infographic video of "Timeline of Gaza | 3500 BCE to October 7th, 2023" that shows population changes in that area.
Its one of the beautiful but complicated factors of this region, is that its always been a center of different powers, migration, and each family has their own story. Some for milenia, some centuries and others decades. Like Jews, ancestry is also a mix. My family has history in Italy and Germany, while my partner from Kurdish Iraq, and Syria, but we are of the same Diasporic group.
I hope there are people who know more about their history that can share.

Modern day Israel is made up of people who lived there before the formation of Israel (mostly Palestinians), people who immigrated from Europe post WWII (Jews), people who immigrated from Arab countries to make Aliyah and join the first Jewish state (mostly Jews), and people who immigrated from USSR post fall of communism in early 1990s (Jews).
