THE REVIEW
I watch each episode with my own commentary, often pausing the scenes to get my words out without having to talk over the episode, and also to point out and analyze the show's art and animation. I have seen each episode already growing up, so these reviews are to compare and contrast the five categories listed below.
PLOT (Scaled from 1 to 5 Points)
The foundation of the episode. Uniqueness and overused tropes are taken into account, but it is also judged on how well it tells the story of the episode. An episode can score a 5 even with a basic/ cliche plotline as long as it has good pacing, worthy use of its tropes, and feels well-polished. An episode can lose points due to plotholes, uneven storytelling, and relying too heavily on cliches to do the work for it.
CHARACTERIZATION (Scaled from 1 to 5 Points)
How well the characters are written. Do they feel like themselves compared to the grand narrative of the franchise? Are the supporting or one-off characters interesting, or pure plot devices? Did the humor land? Did the actions and character motivations make sense?
VISUALS (Scaled from 1 to 5 Points)
Basically, everything that happens on-screen. Character Design. Animation. Backgrounds. Creative mechanics and solutions. If there is CGI or digital effects added, how well do they blend into the show, and were they used as an enhancement, or a crutch?
IMPORTANCE (Scaled from 1 to 5 Points)
This includes, but is not strictly based on, how important the episodes are to the current story arc (if there is one) or the general narrative of the Ben 10 Franchise. Points can also be awarded for how impactful the episode was, or how favored/ important it is to the general Ben 10 fanbase. I ask myself, "If I skipped this, would I be missing out on the 'Ben 10 Experience?' "
ENTERTAINMENT (Scaled from 1 to 5)
Pretty much the most important part of developing a tv show. You can be perfect in all four of the previous categories, but the episode can still be boring. On the flip side, the episode can be absolute garbage, but still an enjoyable watch. How likely would you be to put this episode on if you were in the mood to watch Ben 10? - Розваги

I loved that explanation about how and why OG series's one off adventure episodes were so amazing and memorable. Really put into words what I couldn't.
So, a comic book's.
yeah. i think what also helps is the fact that Classic is one big roadtrip, so you're pretty much always gonna be prepared for an adventurous episode, even if it's somehow on another planet.
Cof season 4 cof
i really wish they somehow bringed this back without the need of a roadtrip scenario, like the Big Chill babies episode, the hand on null void or above and beyond
Classic series literally was an adventure with each episode focusing on the next journey ahead but added in alot of story elements too with the characters that get alot of development (unlike the reboot which it tried that but failed at certain points) omniverse couldve tried it but mainly the only way how thatd work is with ben and rook traveling to other alien homeworlds and learning about their cultures since ben just got a few new ones in the series he couldve taken it upon himself to learn a few things for his fights ahead
Old Ripjaws had a fitting voice imo.
The Omniverse Ripjaws sounds like he's doing a impression of G1 Transformers Seaspray
if they used the old ripjaws voice with the gargling i think it would've fit the direction of giving it a unique voice along with making it sound like the og
I dont mind it but I miss how old ripjaws couldnt talk underwater. It was a nice detail.
Holy shit that’s exactly what OV is doing isnt it
Who?
@InevitableOption-ic2vx I meant, who is Seaspray?
I still love Ben's annoyed delivery of "Your... ship-bottling days are over!" Even Ben was annoyed with the plot.
This is why OV Ben is my fav
Yeah, I usually find OV Ben's nonchalant behaviour irritating, but here, it was 100% appropriate.
@@trevoranthony3018he really is the best
At least Xylene is mentioned, despite she doesn’t appear again in Ben 10.
Wasn't she in the gameshow episode?
@@simbasorariku3if she was, it would definitely just be counted as a “cameo” or something
I am genuinely confused she didn't. With how Classic-obssessed OV is, you'd think she'd be prime candidate.
Simba u may be thinking of myaxx not xylene
“Developed a world that could have easily been its own arc”
That’s something interesting in rewatching some of the best shows from my childhood like Ben 10 or Justice League Unlimited and seeing one off stories that I remember as being so much larger because the the show was just that good
Yeah... the only stand out moment that comes to my mind for this episode was... the Rath not liking Water scene.... a clear example of Omniverse focusing more on Rath's comedic side over his badass side.... and I think it falls flat here.
he was holding a boat filled with 2 people and himself, meaning he can carry his own weight while holding two other people and a boat, that's bada$$ if u ask me
@@theamazingspooderman2697
1) I didn't remember that scene... I only remembered the bit before where he acts scared from being surrounded by water.
2) I didn't say he didn't have badass moments in Omniverse... just that Omniverse tended to focus less so on his Badass moments in favor of the Comedic side of him... and that the results this time didn't stick the landing.
@@13KuriMaster I think they are focusing on a mixture of both his comedic nature and bada$$ nature
We have billions of strong aliens that can fill that role. There is nothing that great about rath beside his unique personality and voice actor. I get why they would do that.
@@N.I.A23 But they were leaning a LOT heavier into the comedic side then UAF did... and I think UAF had the better balance... though Omniverse missing a lot of it's jokes probably didn't help any.
1) That joke about the writers conversation made me laugh way too hard.
2) Despite how short it is this episode made me like Jury Rig for the first time. And by the time he jacks that Forever Knights machine that mutates Will Harang he was in my top 10.
Yeah! Those (for lack of a better term)“deadpan” jokes are always funny, they almost always make me laugh
It’s just STUPID! And that’s GREAT!
... True that joke was good XD
This episode did a good job showing off Jury Rigg’s gimmick. Shame that’s all Jury Rigg is. I used to mentally think about a Star Trek type show in the Ben 10 Universe after seeing the Tappet brothers reference when Rook and Kevin went to Khoros. Because having a member of Jury Rigg’s species as a Star Trek engineer seemed like a good concept.
@@gutsmasterson2488and it is a good idea but u gotta remember too his species was nothing but engineers they break apart machinery to fix it to something they would enjoy or unless if it was for business theyd fix it for something the customer would like it doesnt make it entirely bad but if wat u wanted was for the species to have a better purpose other then being just an engineer then yea I agree that they shouldve given a named dropped juryrigg species some kind of relevance in the series instead of being a background character similar to how there was an arachnachimp simian who was like a con artist always messing with things he shouldn't (not the best example but good enough)
Ripjaws's face in the thumbnail really says it all
The poor thing
3:16 HE DID IT. HE ADMITTED IT. FINALLY!!!!
I completely forgot that villain. I rememberd the episode, but the villain straigt occupied zero synapses in my brain.
I only remembered him because of the sillyness of him wanting to eat Patteliday.
@@Theokal3I'd try him. I love grilled fish.
The animators snuck in some Pokémon cameos, with Magikarp and Gyrados being fished up.
They should have added more water pokemon. Like feebas, seaking, etc.
It's not in that episode
This was honestly one of my favorite episodes of Omniverse. One of the few episodes I really enjoy
Why?
Weirdly I really love this episode. Just a laid back goofy adventure with colorful ideas and characters. Reminds me of oldschool Mirage-era TMNT comics.
I actually felt scared to say I actually liked it in my own comment due to how confident Kuro was with his distaste for it in the video, woops

i agree, its a fun eoisodic episode for me.
@@pemanilnoobdon’t be. I personally agree with kuro, but you should not be afraid to express your opinion
Love this episode aswell
I think the thing about the OG one-offs is that they were mostly played straight. In OV it's like they leaned too much into comedic territory. And with OV having the most episodes really makes you wonder how much were they pressed for time for the arc-focused episodes?
A lot of their arcs after Malware didn’t get much development because they only got 10 episodes a season and didn’t know if they were going to get more after that.
Yeah that sums it up well I guess. Again, a lot of these in OS had a slight horror vibe that is missing in OV
Filler episodes in classic: invasion of body snatchers, Fungus monster, basically It
Filler episodes in omniverse: gremlins but worse, pirate brainiac
Fun fact about Captain Kork: According to Matt Wayne, he or his species is Piscciss Volann's natural predator. Though according to DJW, he isn't from Piscciss.
If that is true, then it creates several questions about how the two societies coexist.
That name sounds familiar....
It makes sense that the natural predators of a fish species are like human fishermen. We humans don't belong to the ocean either, which is the fish's world too, so it's kinda the same.
@@N.I.A23 Yeah, but our fish can't complain about it.
Honestly, the only reason I rewatch this episode is because my favorite transformation diamondhead is in it.
I rewatched this episode recently and thought it was okay, I agree that the humor gets a bit much at times, but honestly it's a fun one off adventure imo, also love Rob Paulsen in anything he's in so it gets points for that
Rats! I wanted this as a full breakdown. It's one of my favorite episodes.
... Really? The random episode about an alien pirate who put bottles in ship is one of your favourite?
Not gonna judge, but... I don't get it.
@@Theokal3it's ok but not great
@@Theokal3 bottling people in ship is terrifying, they will run out of air soon, also like how he was doing it in secret so there's no way for Plumbers to know about him easily and it reminded me of Classic's Kraven episod bcz of these unearthly aliens living in peaceful areas so its not suspicious
@@Theokal3 It's not a particularly deep episode, it's just a lot of fun
@@Theokal3 It's not a deep episode. It's just one for fun.
I do appreciate how Ben fights in this episode, he spends the whole time kicking ass with no issue
You know the odd thing about Captain Kork was that Matt Wayne went out of his way to state that Captain Kork is the natural predator for Ripjaws only for Derrick J Wyatt to state that he is not and that Captain Kork never lived on Pisciss or ate any of Ripjaw’s species.
With Wyatt dead Matt can now recanonize that statement
@@axelnilsson5124 I guess but literally it opens the question of why Khyber did not do anything with that.
@@justindeliwe8065 because he’s sentient meaning he can be sampled to the omnitrix and not the nemetrix just like Vladats
@@justindeliwe8065 I don’t think Ben ever used Ripjaws against Khyber or Zed, so how do we know the Nemetrix didn’t have Ripjaws’ predator?
@@mldavid4056 True, I guess.
I remembered there was a concept of a scene where they ended up cutting through an Ectonurite neighborhood while searching for Patelliday and I think that could’ve made for a very cool scene it’s unfortunate that it had to be cut for time.
Aye atleast we saw ripjaws.....boy they did him dirty in every series
At least he shows up in every main series (except Alien Force)
he makes a quick work or Vulkanus in his next appearance, probably the most strength feat he has
I’d say yes since it brings back some of the light-heartedness of the OS.
This episode used to air a lot in CN Latam, so I may be a bit biased, but I still think this is one of my favorite Early OV Episodes!
The concept art for this episode is soooo cool also peak jury rigg
Yeah, I can't really defend this episode. I don't think it's bad, just kind of whatever. Doesn't really add much to the world or the character relationships. This is what a true "filler" episode looks like. It's the kind of episode that's just "there". The only thing I have to disagree on is the comment about OV's body proportions. I think OV, like of shows DJW worked on, succeeded at giving a lot of the characters such unique and interesting body types for a lot of their characters.
I actually really liked this episode, I'm kinda surprised it's ranked low. Some parts of the humor is meh like with Rath being scared of water but Idk I thought the episode was goofy but entertaining.
Wait , isnt this the ep where magikarp is cannon in the ben world ?
It's the episode where Patelliday and Max fish a Magikarp and a Gyarados yeah
Omniverse has the best of both worlds for me.
If I want something with continuity I can rewatch the Malware arc, the Incursians arc, the Kyber arc, etc... However, if I just want to pass the time, there are dozens of episodic adventures to enjoy.
This is literally one of the worst episodes in the entire series..
Honestly the worst of both worlds.

There wasn’t the only other episode he appears in is in that Baumann episode
YES. BREAKDOWN TIME.

I like this episode. It doesn't come close to the heights Omniverse reached other times, but I like that it's just a fun adventure. This is definitely a Ben 10 episode if you could even define what that is.
Happy they reference classic
Omniverse was my introduction to Patelliday. Sorry of I misspelled it. It's way better than ultimate alien. His species shouldn't have straight human teeth.
His UA design was hilarious in retrospect
Patelliday escaping on his own was awesome
@@anthonyvillanueva5226 yeah, which makes sense for a Plumber
Yea funny enough I barely remembered this one.... guess the only real cool thing is they brought a few things back like ripjaws who we havent seen in awhile (he does appear in UAF but more like just 1 time then that's it) the kraken making its return after sooo very long and yea as u mentioned juryrigg's capabilities to disassemble and reassemble machinery that actually works and creating a cool contraption (which is more notable of the species anyway) guess with this episode how u ranked the score does make alot of sense cus of the fact nothing is really at stake compared to the others where it was
I loved that one scene where they caught a greymatter and gyarados
2:45 I I hate it when shows have their own artstyle 😮💨🙄🙄🙄
It amazes me how Kuro manages to contradict himself about Ov's style.

Sad to see because he's my favorite alien.
The thing i miss the most in short breakdowns is the segment of Kuro making up lines for the opening
4:!2 actually, the fact that it reminded me of uaf stiffness when it came to expresssions is what bugged me the most
If this episode feels off storywise, then I wonder what happened behind the scenes?

All I remember was rip jaws and pateliday and robots taking pateliday

Man of Culture! kuro you are
Palliday talks a lot like Don Knotts and he resembles Mr. Limpet in his fish form in The Incredible Mr. Limpet. 🐟
Omniverse has tons of unique proportions, it's like one of the show's art style's main appeal.

Jury Rigg & Patelliday are MY Fave parts of This Episode. The rest were ok I guess
I love these videos I get why people do not like this episode but i like

I don't remember the villain...I just remember the rest of the episode

Also according to Matt Wayne, Captain Kork is the predator of Piscciss Volanns but Derick J. Wyatt said he’s not from Piscciss and hasn’t eaten a Piscciss Volann yet
Are you going count it if Albedo does goals ultimate or is that only for Ben?
3:58 Please do 🙏
I'm wondering if Ripjaws got the wrong voice filter added to him, maybe? Idk, lot of weird choices for this episode
I love this episode
3:24 how is that a bad thing? just shows how efficient Ben is in OV and holds back most of the time in other battles
this is a one-off episode anyway so it doesn't really matter, but the show is notorious for introducing cool things and then getting rid of them 10 seconds later. just would've been cool to see it for more than 5 frames lmao
The scene would be waaay worse if it dragged on like kuro wants it to be.
@@N.I.A23 i mean who knows, but that's why the cool concepts should be saved for cool episodes. if you're gonna show something interesting in a filler episode & never show it again at least let it have its moment 🤷♂
@@kickflip2000 but he does these things later too, like while making Tenn Speed with broken stuff from Rook' Prototruck
@@kickflip2000 it's brought again, that's Jury Rigg's whole gimmick, he even breaks prison like bars and makes an entire automatic door with it that activates with voice command in a later episode
My biggest complaint about this Episode is forcing Ben to abandon his chase for magister patelliday because the Omnitrix conveniently times out when Ben is Ripjaws in his element, the main issue I have with the OV Omnitrix is it doesn't feel like it's the official product, it just feels like they prototype again, always timing out at bad times, mistransforming Ben even when he uses it properly, all the Classic Series nostalgia bait really holds Omniverse back. It doesn't even feel like Ben tries to use the Omnitrix in a practical fashion, he literally just wings it all the time!
Omnitrix is not meant to be hit on the dial but Ben does that all the time, that's what randomises the time and things happening conveniently is a recurring theme in EVERY media
and it is the official product, never remembered any Omnitrix having s failsafe as good as OV that it reacts faster than Big Bang and transforms Ben
@@theamazingspooderman2697 Yep.
True I think ov omnitrix is not perfect. Azmuth is smart but he still makes mistakes
@@theamazingspooderman2697Please stop quoting that explanation. We ALL saw Azmuth say this, we know about it. And that explanation is still dumb; it’s on Azmuth for changing the sensibility of the dial when this Omnitrix was specifically for Ben and he knows Ben slap hard.
As for thé failsafe, there is no indication it’s an improvement from the OV Omnitrix. In fact it’s implied to have been there since the first model.
Yeah I definitely think they should have bought back Ripjaws’s original series voice actor because the new voice ain’t it for me
And this was one of my favorite episodes too :(
How come the last quick breakdowns were on the main channel?
Well, hope the next breakdown is more positive, I prefer positive

Eh? Sometimes they have hype moments but eh

Did you miss the term headcanon? I'm fully aware he isn't. I'm also fully aware that none of 5YL is actual canon.
@@anthonyvillanueva5226 there’s no point of headcanonizing when the opposite has been stated
I swear, Ripjaws showing up once in Omniverse made it very shocking to see that he was one of the classic 10
He shows up again later on which either was used in the flashback or was used for more water related stuff (except the one time ben turned to heatblast by mistake)
would of been better if they connected this to the malware ark
I don't think any of the series manages to capture the feeling of the original and that's fine, I would rather there be tonal differences matching Ben's attitude as he realizes not just the power he has but also the efficacy at which he uses it. Ben can be cocky knowing he has the practical solutions to nearly every problem he can face slapped on his wrist
