A new chapter for the game with the video released on Halloween? My *Faith* in humanity is restored (Excuse my attempt at a horrible pun, Happy Hallow's Eve everyone)
_“You ain’t gonna MORTIS me”_ Father Ward flashes his crucifix using blessings as his weapon. His triumphs & _faith_ are almost as good as Father Karras in The Exorcist. And now his cross is gold again... I have no idea why that changes. I liked that whole section when he had sacrificed his crucifix. He had only the artificial light from his camera to guide him, but needed that crucifix back for the light of his faith to battle the demon. Very cool imagery & great weird story. From the first game, I’m still not sure he’s really a Catholic priest or if all these things he sees are his delusions, which just adds to the story. Here the one note says, “so-called priest” & I’m pretty he was married & there were notes to his wife. That ain’t Catholic for sure. Maybe the 7th floor will be in the full game... all I know is I’m looking forward to it!
I think the color of the Crucifix shows whether or not he's awake / in the real world or not. Remember that in Faith II the whole thing was a dream sequence.
@@NaturalFlirtGamer I think the color of his cross showcases his faith; his faith is at it's weakest in Faith 2, you can see father Garcia at the beginning and end has his wooden cross that even looks gigantic in the cutscene towards the end. I think it's really neat that all the notes that make you doubt whether you should believe that John is a priest or sane come from doing demonic/immoral deeds ingame, thus making you lose faith in your character. In the end it's your interpretation of the material that matters.
@@30qwerty1 Yes, his faith is weakest in Faith 2 you are right & thank you! And absolutely the notes make a huge difference with the story & the viewer's perception of him. I feel that _he_ is convinced he is a priest & I am rooting for him. A complete aside but it relates - that is also why I love watching someone good like MBH play the game. When there is greater difficulty & constant threat of death, other players give up - not him. And even if I play myself, I am not as talented in finding _~*seeecrets~_ like MBH is. Or maybe I'm just too busy trying not to die lol. But watching him play allows me to focus on the story & details I might otherwise miss. So yay for Let's Plays & a bigger yay for _good_ Let's Plays, like MBH does... which is why I'm a long-time fan.
The entire series makes you wonder if this guy is really a Catholic Priest or not, since even in the first game, the Vatican denies they ever heard of him. That could be because he was a 'interim Priest' as I don't know the proper word for that when Amy was first attempted to be exorcised. There's also the detailed notes in the second game, especially through secrets, about John being treated for mental illness. It's implied that something happened with Amy before the first game, possibly with her first attempted exorcism, that caused John to see 'nightmares' and 'delusions.' He was released on the premise that he accepted things weren't his fault and these delusions weren't real, but given the fact he went back to Amy's house to 'finish the job' as soon as he was released shows that, if these are simply delusions, that he really isn't better. But on the same token, does that mean Father Garcia is a delusion, too? Or having the same delusions as John, at the very least? All in all, these games do a great job of shadowing doubt over what would be an otherwise simple game about exorcising demons or joining them.
I love how creative this game is. With minimal colours and pixel art I think it manages to be really eerie and the animated scenes are so creepy. I really enjoy this developers work. The art, sound design, and gameplay is really great!
It's an interesting experiment that shows what it might've looked and sounded like if someone made a really ambitious survival horror game that was ahead of it's time for really early DOS systems.
Aside from the impressive creativity evident in the design and implementation of the animated cut-scenes, another commendable attribute of the Faith series, or, at least this chapter demo in particular, is the incorporation of comedic elements which effectively serve in tempering the severity of the game’s tone. Given the foundational concepts and themes overtly explored, entrenchment of the atmosphere within a mire of unrelenting gloom, often born from the presumed seriousness or weight associated with this sort of subject matter, would therefore be a rather natural inclination for the developers to pursue. However, the inclusion of minor humorous moments elicits a sense of self-awareness, which somewhat dispels the bleakness and arguably addresses the possible criticism of the game appearing too “edgy” in its presentation and execution. Specifically, I find it rather enjoyable that some guy simply named “Gary” controls a demonic cult whose members diligently pay their rent on time and happen to use a dumbwaiter to provide sacrifices for the preternatural being that resides in their apartment building’s dingy laundry room.
@JM Not sure about other games but the idea is rotoscoping - drawing and animating over live action footage. Old Disney animations used it, the film 'A Scanner Darkly' is totally rotoscoped. Look up the technique and you'll find more examples, hope this helps!
That possession animation is just bizarre in the best way. I agree that it comes off as more alien than demonic, and I'm absolutely interested in seeing how Faith would tackle that sort of enemy. I am consistently interested in this series, and this demo only reaffirms my excitement for Faith 3. As for the seventh floor, I wouldn't be surprised if it's just a fake out to keep people guessing.
John is certainly very brave for walking into obvious traps with good intentions, but he's quite stupid for doing exactly what Gary wants him to do and John doesn't even realize that Gary is guiding and somewhat protecting him. I'm pretty sure the Seal of Alu was put down by Tiffany but Gary couldn't break it and needed John's help to do it.
M O R T I S Edit: this one was by far the scariest and the scene with the camera flash literally freaked me out so bad that I had a video of puppies going on my phone
Americans: Shoot First, Think Later. Gary: *_Sacrifice First, Rent and Utilities Later_* also: I'd like people to know that Aloo/Alu means potato in Bangla/Hindi
I love the voices and sounds in this game. I love " _I'm.. _*_NoT.. LISA.._* " and " *T h e D e v i l m a d e m e d o i t .* " And I love the little melody that plays when John get possessed. It's all great.
28:49 John's faith has diminished, so his effectiveness with the cross has also diminished. (Someone must agree, or just wanted to like this comment. Either way thanks.)
Although in designation, the demon takes damage if it flashes red and not the amount of times you knock it back. Yes, yes his faith keeps going downhill while demonic presence is too much but you can kill "it" by getting close to it then long crossing it
does that mean up to this point the canon endings are all bad ones? cuz at the bad ending of chapter 2 he was starting to lose faith because he claims to survive the nightmares not conquer it.
His cross keeps changing, but I'm not sure why. Is his faith diminishing, or is it reflective of things around him getting more intense? So far, his cross changed 3 times; from Gold to Silver to... Bronze? Regardless, it's in line with actual Bible Verses in the book of Daniel here. Specifically, in line with the parts about the Dream that the King of Babylon had of a statue that was Gold up top, and got less and less valuable as it went down to the feet. At the end, a big stone knocks it over and the whole thing's obliterated.

I love how much this game series has seriously ramped up the effects! The camera is a nice touch to really add tension. I wonder if Fatal Frame was a inspiration for that. It was cool to finally see Lisa here too. Not sure if she is alright now though... Gary is also a welcome addition. What will he do now that he has met John...? The music is so unnerving! Plus the rotoscope scenes are even better this time around! This demo is awesome and I am SO looking forward to the final game!
Maybe the secret code to get to the 7th floor was hinted at in the basement? One of the writings said "it's not seven," and the other said "seventy times seven," which is 490. So maybe the way to get to the 7th floor is to use the elevator to go to the 4th floor, then the 9th floor, then the 10th floor?
"Seventy Times Seven" equals 490, and it's a Bible Reference to the New Testament: when someone asks Yashua* (Jesus) the Christ "How many times should I forgive my brother? Seven times?" Yashua replies "No; seventy times seven." (I'm not sure the verse is about "putting a number on it," though? Is it just to say "do not stop forgiving?") * A more accurate translation of Hebrew to English, rather than the Greek Version to English.
Seems like John is crazy. But, then again, he was admitted from the institution as sane - so perhaps it's a Lovecraftian logic and only other people who understand will think him sane (Father Garcia for example)
I think the broken mirrors are a call back to chapter one of faith, where if you shot the mirror in the master bedroom, you get pulled in by a demon and unlock the secret ending. I believe that very demon that pulls you into the mirror is ALU. And the reason I think is because one of the notes you obtained from the altar by the three cultists tells about how Tiffany summoned ALU to assist with sealing Lisa in. While it helped keep Lisa from leaving, he also says it could be a test since their cult is devoted towards the UNSPEAKABLE. I have a hunch that Gary destroyed all the mirrors since they act as a doorway into ALUs world, after the fact that Tiffany went against the cult and helped ALU instead. I could be wrong, so if anybody has a theory, feel free to chime in.
Alu is not the mirror demon. Even at the time that this demo came out, how does one even put this theory together? First, the mirror demon doesn't look anything like Alu. Second, the mirror demon was always found in hidden/alternate spaces (mirror world in chapter 1, confessional booth alternate chamber in chapter 2; later, literally in the mirror in chapter 3), whereas Alu was found residing in an actual area: an apartment room. Third, Tiffany summoned this demon rather recently whereas the mirror demon was found already in the presence of Earth's reality as far back as a year. I don't know why you associate the mirrors to Alu when Alu isn't the only demon encountered in the apartment. The player is ambushed and later fights the Peekaboo Demon and also has a couple of encounters with Malphas in the building. You didn't read the note properly. Alu was summoned, and then possessed Lisa; Tiffany then placed the seal on the door to the room that Lisa is in. Your logic also doesn't make sense. Gary destroyed the mirrors to block the doorway to Alu's world... AFTER Lisa summoned Alu from his world into ours?
@@123mickymouse123 Yeah, I know, and it's hinted at throughout the games as well, but like I said, it's rarely satisfying when all the spooks are just "Lul nothings real dickhead, take your meds" Games still absolutely fantastic though and the series is gold.
@@MrTurok999 I actually think that idea works better for faith since it's all about the occult. A big part of occult magic is riturals based on symbols (cross, X's, Pentagrams, swastikas, ect) and numbers. Different numbers and shapes correlate differently, but as a rule of thumb their is a greater emphasis on the individuals FAITH in the ritural that gives it a lot of its power.
There might be a third ending. I mean aside from floor 7 possibly being accessible for that route, it seems you can still use the crucifix on lisa after the ghost is beaten. Maybe if you somehow damage her enough before she exits you can get ahem *SECRETS?*
One thing I noticed, above the Dumbwaiter it says "B1" which obviously stands for "Basement 1" that could be an indication that the full version will have more basement levels?
Wait....this has to be the worst Halloween Party EVER!! No booze, no smoking, no scary costumes, Timmy has a bunch of food allergies......this place deserves to be sucked into a hell-hole.
I'm starting to think you really can't access that damn seventh floor...damn, I want there to be a third ending! I went as far as to hit the floor seven button seventy times to no avail (hence the writing "seventy times seven"). There's even seven candles in the elevator! I've seen all the notes, but now that it's not Halloween, that note in the pumpkin in front of room 9B is gone, so I can't 100% the notes anymore. Also, I don't know if it's just in the room with the dagger, but if you stay there long enough and just take periodic pictures, you get a 3/4 profile perspective of the weird double-mouth demon that possesses you. Also, in the room with all the boxes where the demon from Faith II chases you, sometimes, he'll charge right over and kill you instantly. Not sure what causes this behavior...dunno if it's pointing the camera directly at him, or if it's due to taking too long. Finally, be careful about going back down the wash room stairs after getting possessed by the goat demon thing for the first time. If you hug the right-most wall, you might glitch into the wall and get stuck.
Also, is the reason why there's no 7th floor sort of the same as why there are no 13th floor in certain buildings? Like isn't 7 special in Christianity, and thus taboo for these cultists
_Time for Halloween Mortis_ Happy Halloween everyone! This is the perfect creepy horror game to watch as the witching hour begins! That elevator music was pretty baller, love this games theme song. So now we explore a spooky apartment! I like how these demos are. They are kinda their own thing and a good length. It's so unnerving. The camera mechanic was handles pretty well. Especially the monster cutscenes Gotta have some candy while I watch this
So it seems like there's two conflicting sides between the cultists who worship the Unspeakable who live in the Apartment, and a second entity who has some connection with Tiffany? (Perhaps that Alu character) . I'm thinking maybe the weird alien creature with the open gaping mouth might be a separate entity from the main one plagueing the apartment (despite seeing him after being attacked by the black and red demon)
It's a reference to the command of forgiveness in the Bible. It translates that Christians should forgive seventy times seven times each. but you could be right
The seventy times seven part is reference to a Bible verse. "Matthew 18:21, 22. Then Peter came up and said to him, 'Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? As many as seven times?' Jesus said to him, 'I do not say to you seven times, but seventy times seven.'" Idk what the relevance is, though.

I guess you could say that John is the wrong priest to cross.
_“You ain’t gonna MORTIS me”_
Father Ward flashes his crucifix using blessings as his weapon.
@@NauyaIsOnline Yes you're right & that makes good sense - thank you!!
I love how this game makes you feel powerful and yet vulnerable to possession
I see you too are a fan of mokey mouse

I forgot this was demo. This already has a lot of stuff here.
That party newsletter felt less like an invitation and more like a notice to mind little Timmy's general existence.

John's faith has diminished, so his effectiveness with the cross has also diminished.

So maybe the way to get to the 7th floor is to use the elevator to go to the 4th floor, then the 9th floor, then the 10th floor?
or maybe you have to mash the 7th floor button 70 times :P
-or maybe even 490-
Why don't we just try the elevator game?
The seventh floor definitely exists, but I don't know how to get there. But the files exist
Is it just to say "do not stop forgiving?")
* A more accurate translation of Hebrew to English, rather than the Greek Version to English.
I figured it out. You can't reach the seventh floor in game. It does exist, but it's all black and really quite boring

"You're not gonna mortis me. Go mortis on your own time!" That was amazing 😂😂😂😂
Seems like John is crazy. But, then again, he was admitted from the institution as sane - so perhaps it's a Lovecraftian logic and only other people who understand will think him sane (Father Garcia for example)

the best about this demo is when gary reminds his followers their rent and utilities payment and in the end says love, gary
The only thing I've always wanted for FAITH is to not pull the "it's all actually just delusions" card because that always cheapens the horror to me.
The developer has stated that they like being vague about the subject. It's a game about faith after all.
@@123mickymouse123 Yeah, I know, and it's hinted at throughout the games as well, but like I said, it's rarely satisfying when all the spooks are just "Lul nothings real dickhead, take your meds" Games still absolutely fantastic though and the series is gold.
Same, go through buttload of horror/stuff only to then be met with "none of this is real (in game) lol" is just ugh.
I enjoy it when it's used to make you question what is reality and build suspense, but generally it turns into shitting on mentally ill people.
Finally, I’ve been waiting for the return of

One thing I noticed, above the Dumbwaiter it says "B1" which obviously stands for "Basement 1" that could be an indication that the full version will have more basement levels?
I love how the Faith demos reveal answers to some secrets in the full game
The comment about the earplugs and the dumbwaiter was really funny, I love little touches of humour like that in horror!
As soon as I saw the word "dumbwaiter" I had flashbacks to that Vinesauce Halloween puzzle with the tractor...
"I'm just gonna try and leave" YEAH I WOULD TOO
19:43 sound effect got me like: "Bravo Six, going dark."
You can't access the seventh floor in game but it does exist...
30:21? I call that Monday.
Very random but your voice is so soothing that the only thing that's keeping me from falling asleep is the fear of demons showing up
When you try to sneak up on the protagonist but the light of the candles keep on alerting him.
Bruh omfg yaaas! I didn't think they'd make more of this game i love it sooo much!
Also, is the reason why there's no 7th floor sort of the same as why there are no 13th floor in certain buildings? Like isn't 7 special in Christianity, and thus taboo for these cultists
There is a seventh floor
YEESSSSSS love this series and we early for once
The random pauses you do in this game are so terrifying!
_Time for Halloween Mortis_
Happy Halloween everyone! Especially the monster cutscenes
Gotta have some candy while I watch this
So it seems like there's two conflicting sides between the cultists who worship the Unspeakable who live in the Apartment, and a second entity who has some connection with Tiffany? (Perhaps that Alu character) . I'm thinking maybe the weird alien creature with the open gaping mouth might be a separate entity from the main one plagueing the apartment (despite seeing him after being attacked by the black and red demon)
Everytime you say Mortis I really LOL. Awesome content keep it up.
Father John sure does get possessed alot it seems in these games.

"Seventy times seven"?
Well, that would be 490, perhaps it's a special code you type in using the elevator keys?
It's a reference to the command of forgiveness in the Bible. It translates that Christians should forgive seventy times seven times each. but you could be right
Does anyone know what those grey things in 18:28 are supposed to be?? They're in the other games and I just can't figure it out. :P
Neat, the pitchfork cultist from one of the previous endings
