Can we just acknowledge that the only thing that kills Parsnip is playing with a trumpet, and not eating the ENTIRE cake containing paint, tetanus, and bird flu?
I still don't know how exactly Parsnip would die from a toy trumpet. That makes little sense - did he throw it far above his head, so that it fell on him while juggling? Did he *inhale a trumpet?* (it's a cartoon, that can happen.) Whatever the case, the world may never know.

The most horrifying thing about this game, the darkest mystery, is how parsnip expected to bake a cake seemingly without any leavening agent whatsoever. I know, he gets paint in it, it gives someone tetanus, whatever -- but without baking powder, egg whites, ANYTHING, i'm surprised his friends could even eat the cake to begin with.

well that Spongebob comparison still tracks, after all Spongebob IS an adult. But I think that's what makes Parsnip rather creepy. There's young at heart, but something is clearly wrong with him behaving like a child to this degree and mixed with implications that he's done something violent. He also doesn't understand social cues or boundaries. So yeah, definitely not a child.

If you'll talk to most of the NPCs several times in a row they'll have different dialogues (same with "checking" stuff). I remember during one of the dialogues with squirrel girl Parsnip said that he is almost deaf due to some accident. I guess that's why there's no music.

The fact that there is no music or sounds (for the most part,) and all the characters face the screen (when not running...oh and the magpie....) makes this so much more effective. The sheep looming in the background, the subtle cracks at how unnatural the dialogue is like “sometimes I feel like I need to explain things,” and the hints that Parsnip isn’t trusted just adds to it!
13:35 - The pause followed by the excited "So did seven others!" really got me laughing!
For a dark comedy, almost horror game, this was really cute. It nails the old cartoon vibe, and looks good doing it. Parsnip may be an idiot, but it made for an amusing protagonist. The demonic sheep was absolutely the best character.

So the flour was probably ground up bone, squirrel girl’s parents died and those skulls were probably her parents, the chocolates were most likely dirt, and either the milk could be paint, or some paint fell in the cake. And the weird king in yellow guy killed everyone.

The chocolates are definitely chocolate, but Squirrel Girl can comment that she hasn't bathed since her parents disappeared (a week ago), and there's chocolate in her tail so she probably hasn't been handling them sanitarily.
I just assumed the milk was spoiled since the sheep didn't even know it was there
From what it looks like, Parsnip has his paintbrushes which also look like they still have paint on them right next to the cake bowl, so it's very possible that he also uses the cake bowl as his water bowl for rinsing brushes/getting brushes wet enough for using watercolors and possibly forgot to clean it before making the cake.

Squirrel Girl is surprisingly chill about her parents remains just lying on the ground.
Some things to pick on:
The cow dying by drinking paint may imply the milk you get is in reality Paint! So she may be doing that to distribute more bottles, or try to kill the sheep.
The Devil sheep has 2 skulls, both have hearts as nose, like the Squirrel girl, it imply they may be her parents.
Also that the Flower may in reality be Bone.
So it could be the bone or the dirt that cause LeRose to get Tetanus.
Both Bunnies and Bird contract Bird Flue and both show no symptoms, are just carriers.
Parsnips Deed is weird because he has SEVERAL names.
His owns the Dandelion House of 10^2 letters of space, the rest are his names.

So after watching this a while ago, i finally gave in to looking up the king in yellow- an avatar of Hastur from the Cthulhu Mythos (not created by Lovecraft, but inspired him and other cosmic horror authors) who first appeared in 1893 as a "benign god of shepherds", which is actually really cool when you think about how a sheep was used by Hastur (The King in Yellow) in the game! However The King in Yellow is a play said to be relatively normal in the first act, only to drive the reader mad in the second. It is also a book of short stories in which Hastur is mentioned.
“I want you to draw blood for the new king and deliver it to me in this ritualistic bowl and in turn I’ll give you some flour.”
“Oh boy flour!”

Honestly, I like that it never broke the aesthetic. Way too many "cute"/subtle horror games try and have that moment where everything goes wrong, but I personally like how the game just presents you with an odd world, and just drops a cultist and his god jn it.
Sure, the ending was a bit anticlimactic, even for a comedic one, but I like that the game knew what it wanted to be, a cute, funny little point and click with horror elements, and just did that.
Either Lerose is creeped out by the thought of holding hands with Bunner, his painting is really bad, or he painted her giving him a handy j.

Absolutely adorable art, weird creepy story and characters. The creator put a lot of time and effort into the art and animations. The endings were so abrupt and the lack of sound/music was jarring, but I'd really love to see a more fully developed game from them. So, I'm looking forward to the sequel~

There are already two! They're called "the testimony of Trixie Glinner Smith" and "Three Lesbians in a narrow". Granted, they follow the visual novel format, but that allows them to have more rich, complex stories.

For those wondering, The King in Yellow is a elder god from a few of Lovecraft's works, The Whisperer in the Darkness for example, and is said to be related to Old Cthulu himself. The King, also called Hastur, rules over a ruined kingdom called Carcosa that sits between dimensions and occasionally begins to bleed into other dimensions with cataclysmic results. The King is able to exert his will over others through his symbol The Yellow Sign that allows him to control anyone who sees it. By using the Yellow Sign The King can force his new thralls to summon him by putting on the cursed stage play The King in Yellow or The Tattered King. The play is in truth a ritual that concludes with the actors murdering each other as a final sacrifice to summon The King. The King is one of the more interesting mythos monsters and many authors have made their own takes on his lore and the lore of his kingdom, but he is always foreshadowed by the appearance of the Yellow Sign and the creeping madness it induces. Super cool that this game used Hastur instead of one of the better known mythos gods.

In the Yellow symbol trip-outs, the Narration is the sheep talking about finding sentience and using its new life to summon the Yellow King. The change happened when it found the Yellow King's play script. If I'm remembering right, the Yellow King is a creation by an acquaintance of Lovecraft. He wrote a story that could fit into Lovecraft's mythology. The story was about a play that wouldn't go as the script was written out. The actors would get possesed and they would act out a different play about a mysterious place, and about the King in Yellow. I think some violent stuff would happen and everyone would go mad. You know, basic Lovecraft stuff. I think I heard the story on "Horror Babble" here on UA-cam?

The pastoral yellow watercolours backgrounds and the cute characters and violence make it like a playable Henry Darger painting. I love it. The animation is adorable and expressive and the dark humour is great too. I want to play the VN sequel about Trixie.!
At first i thought parsnip was the king in yellow his memory wiped to protect the others but the sheep made him remember and he either malformed or killed everyone
It looks like the characters in this game may be representations of the characters in the Play Itself.
Parsnip's the Stranger in the Pallid Mask, and a particularly strange and unintentionally harmful version at that (the squirrel calls them a "stranger" even)
Magpie's Cassilda (usually this character is a queen or Camilla's sibling)
Squirrel Child might be Camilla (usually a princess, sometimes a child) or may be nobody special
Cow might be Camilla or might be Naotalba the advisor (advises Parsnip)
Cultist sheep are worshippers of the King in Yellow trying to drag Yhtill into ruin
Unsure on other characters
The world of Parsnip is Yhtill before it falls to Carcosa.

Man, this game looks amazing. Though, one gripe I had was the ending. Seriously, all that slow, tense anticipation, just for it to amount to basically nothing... Seriously, the ending just felt incredibly rushed... Everything else was pretty good though.
