The entire time of the last ending I was expecting Papa to kill the original Lily. I was just waiting for that gun shot sound to break the silence. Never been full of more anxiety from a game I wasn’t even playing
I was holding my breath the entire time silently screaming for them to just LEAVE. Flee! Please! It's a cutscene! This is the place protagonists can DIE!
@@PatchyDragon yeah I wonder if that was done intentionally, the dialogue seems deliberately like.. neither of the girls understand the danger properly, and the happy ending being dangled in front of you is way too saccharine, like you can't believe it could be true, especially after all the mindfucks you've been through but sometimes it is like that and you get pancakes.
I think what's interesting is that the original Lily is the complete opposite of the cloned Lilly. She's vulgar, wears punky clothing and tons of makeup, headstrong, is seemingly the disobedient type, while the cloned Lily is innocent, thoughtful, very forgiving of her cruel father, and would only think of breaking the rules to save someone's life (responded to cry in the well). I bet Papa hated the way his daughter, the original Lily, turned out. But he was so obsessed with his daughter, that he wanted to create a more "perfect" version of her, which is what he tells you in the game. His ideal Lily is one that is super innocent and would never break his rules, so he created the clones to be that way. Pure speculation of course but it would make sense right? I don't know
It's funny cuz if all he wanted was "perfection" in kindness and sweetness his lily clones have checked that mark. But bc of his obsession with control he never appreciated that hes already got the kind of daughter most will find 'perfect' in a human way ofc he's also a maniac so theres that
Apparently he also hated the fact she kept "thinking voices (crying for help) were more important than Papa". He hated that she put compassion above total slavish obedience. Dude deserved to burn.
I actually see it as the opposite, the real Lily became rebelious to fight against the perfect image her father had of her, to refuse him the idea that the true her could ever be like that
Blood does not mean family. That's a very important lesson. People try to use blood as leverage. Just because you are related, doesnt mean that you should let them abuse you, mentally, physically or emotionally.
Usually there are 2 factors that lead to determining if people are family. #1 is Family though blood; Being related to someone through genes . #2 is Family through bond; Having developed a special connection to someone for how they treat you and how you feel about them and vice versa. The latter however is usually the true determining factor, while the former is more of an add-on and proof of where you came from.
ironically, the most terrifying and anxious moments in this game are when you're closest to freedom when you finally discover the well's secrets, when you're finally able to leave... well, anything could happen waking back up in that bed again is ironically comforting in comparison. I dunno if it's intended, but it's an amazingly good metaphor for abuse. I wonder who or what the narrator is though...
The soul is the same soul, not the original Lily, because she still has hers, possibly a peice of her soul or a copy if anything? But the soul in these bodies are the same while new bodies are being made. Used with alchemy and not just science so I wouldnt call it clones.
@@CalsGirl97 alchemy was both vaguely scientific in its rigor and an occult spiritualism, so in a world where it's real and being mastered, it makes sense they'd study how to transfer souls and such. but we know the two lilys are related on a spiritual level, because how else did she remember the other lily's phone number?
@@funninoriginal6054 maybe. between the tips and the fourth wall breaks... it reminded me a little bit of Monika from ddlc. whoever it is knows a lot more than the characters in-game... but then, I suppose a soul that's dying over and over again might become rather acute.
i'd love to see takes on the narrator, they have a self-depricating humor, a sliiightly more stable memory than the Latest Lilly, and are not omniscent. i love watching people (souls? idk) think and slowly draw conclusions like the narrator does
Honestly, when they said, "it's ok to still love him," that made me tear up a bit. My parents were extremely neglectful of me, I had to essentially take care of myself, my younger brother, and them from a fairly young age. But despite all the abuse and emotional manipulation. There's still love there. And that's ok. I don't forgive them, but I still love them.
I logged in specifically to click Like on this awesome, and accurate comment. I'm sure many of us know exactly what you mean. Thanks for sharing. One of the most accurate and positive comments on here I've ever seen.
My father had parents who were abusive of him too. One wrong step out of line and he was beaten for it. They didn't comfort him or say they loved him or even hugged him. He said they were monsters. But at the end of the day, he still loved them. Especially his mother. I never understood why he would love the monsters that were his parents. But after reading this comment, I believe I understand now. Thank you, you really opened my eyes.
My mom has kind of told me the same thing (she’s not abusive or anything) but her parents were not the best and didn’t always help her when she needed it so she told us that “I will always love you but that doesn’t mean I will like you”
(spoiler alert!) The lily flower commonly represents purity and the cycle of life; even rebirth if I'm remembering right. That's cool foreshadowing if intentional!
Spoilers below: ////////////////////// I think it's a huge twist that the original lily is still alive in this game, not only that but she sent her dad a letter and asked him to stay in contact with her. For the entire story he could have reconnected with his daughter, but he's so warped by narcissism that he'd rather pretend she's gone forever and keep working on a 'perfect' obedient version of her. He can't accept her as a real, independent person who's no longer under his thumb, but all of his attempts to shape lily that way have failed, and they're in this never ending conflict. This feels like a metaphor for holding on to abusive family members and trying to make it work, but in the end you just end up trapped in the same destructive cycles, feeling the same frustrations you felt as a kid. lily's only able to set her younger self free when she burns her bridges and leaves her dad behind for good. this is such a unique take and I loved the happy ending
pretty nice testimony that- even though Manly's channel is not huge, or too well-known, he's playing enough indie-horrors, and enough indie-horror-makers are watching Manly, for those easter eggs to be made :3!
Horror games should always have the Manly™ joke at this point, as a way to respect his dedication to play and bring exposure towards all these hidden gems.
Manly has finally hit the 1 MILLION mark, I think it's safe to say his existence is *WELL* known. On that note, yeah not too long ago Manly was hardly known, but now I find comments about him in other videos and he's at the 1MIL mark, which is pretty awesome
I like that the first thing you see when the credits start is the title again, "Lily's Well," but you can interpret it a little differently: Lily's safe now, Lily's going to be okay. Lily's /well/.
SPOILERS ////////////// This is a story about rescuing your childhood self from an abusive father, isn't it. The true ending makes me really happy, what a wonderful game. Also, the MORTIS reference made me laugh out loud.
I really like the pseudo-loop thing this game has going on. rather than being a time loop, it's more of an "experience" loop with previous actions having consequences it's super neat and a really good way to subvert the whole "ruh-roh, time loop" trope
AHHHH!!! I'm so honored you played my game!!! You're actually the only person I've seen find literally everything! I especially didn't expect you to find the trash can easter egg! As for the Master ID, it is what allows access to the archives and the test room. You can get into Antonio's office fine without it, but based on achievement tracking, a lot of people seem to like killing Freddy Fungus. I was going to make the rest of the rooms accessible with the card, but I plan to add those optional rooms in an update. I'm seriously happy you enjoyed the game. Even though it gets pretty grisly, it came from a big place in my heart. I hope to make more things you and everyone else enjoys in the future! :D
Amazing work! It has so much detail in it I'm not surprised it took someone as thorough as Manly to find it. This game obviously took a lot of work and the true ending honestly made me tear up a little which I wasn't expecting.
[spoilers] okay, he specifically told lily never to call 911, implying that what he was doing was something he could get in trouble for if discovered by law enforcement. meaning that even in the context of the game's world; antonio's actions were unethical and unacceptable. but the kicker is, he was doing it to develop a 'perfect' *OBIDIENT* daughter, which his REAL ORIGINAL daughter wasn't. he's not doing it to further any greater goal, he's not doing it as part of an experiment, or as research or anything else other than... just wanting a slave that looks like his daughter. all that time, energy, resource and manpower....wasted on one man's sadistic narcissism. antonio literally developed a method of creating life, and a potential path to immortality... AND TORTURING MURDERING AN ARMY OF CLONES OF HIS DAUGHTER IS WHAT HE SPENT IT ON? all of this and that's before mentioning the trauma he inflicted on lily... protecc tha pink hair.
I feel for bad for the clones still in tubes and all the monster-looking ones. They probably died from burning, or starvation if the scientists just ditched the place
It's implied (I think) that the dad also hunted down tons of people who could be used for Lily's body. He did say that they had the 'meat' to create more lily's and the corkboard pictures are said to make Lily feel sick.
Well, Papa may have been doing it for his own selfish goals. But he was part of a larger group where "For Science!" (or "For Alchemy!") was probably a part of it. I see it as they didn't care about his motives so long as his project furthered their research.
@@Flammifleure Student: ayo what's up w that professor? Other Student: oh he's running his "traumatize mushroom souls" experiment. S:...? OS: his discoveries form a majority of our alchemy knowledge so we just let him do whatever.
Oh god. This was rough. And awesome. I particularly like the line, “You remember reading about this vine in a book…. Wait, did you read that book? Or did another Lily read it?”
Huh. Lily's mother complaining about Antonio's obsession with his mother makes more sense after checking out developer's previous game and learning the person in painting in another secret ending is the evil witch with flesh powers :p (Mafuyu being another one of her children) I do find it amusing how indie devs like to link their seemingly disconnected horror titles together through secrets
Wonder how Lily Prime's friends would react to Lily 30, like "hey guys this is my little sister Lily who is also a genetic clone of me and may or may not be a plant."
The cycle of Lily dying and repeating traumatic events to finally get to see her future/‘real’ self really resonated with me as a survivor of trauma myself. The little details throughout mean a lot to me too.
agreed. The moment I realized she'd called "the Real Lily's" phone number -and my mind flashed back to the concern/horror OG Lily was displaying at what was happening- it instantly made me think about, like... my reaction and desperation to help those who're going through the things I did.
As much as I appreciated "it's empty. like your soul", Manly could have gotten through the game without killing Freddy Fungus, but you can only find that out after making your decision.
Agh! The Lily needed the hug part... It didn't say which Lilly needed the hug. Which is a nice touch! I'm really happy it had a good ending! (And that it was the true ending.) If it didn't have a good ending, I think the only other ending would be to keep making it to the bottom of the well to show the dad that she'd never learn no matter how many times he killed her.
Probably because both of them needed a hug. We obviously know why the younger lily needs it. But I imagine Lily’s childhood was a pretty toxic and abusive environment if this is what the father is willing to do to create an obedient child.
So long story short: this is another game where the dad hates the idea of their daughter growing up and becoming their own person so he attempts to make mental and/or physically underdeveloped but "perfect" clones that'll stay under him forever. I'm starting to like these "Mad Father"-inspired games, in spite of myself haha
So this makes it the 4th dad who’s tried to do or done something like this Henry in fnaf created 4 robot duplicates of his dead daughter who was also possessing a puppet Gueratina in ib effectively created a human level intelligence who was stuck in a parallel dimension for over 4000 years The guy from mad father as mentioned above and this game, theirs probably more like I just remembered insanity
@@jettlucashayes8508 I'm not really sure it was Guertena's intent to do something like that to Mary. Yes, he did want to pour life into his art (in the literal sense) but I don't think he created Mary just so he could have an obedient daughter.
Quick story recap: Antonio works as headmaster at an alchemy school that works with the demon, azoth. The secret entrance is under the well. We can assume Antonio’s mother died and he started spiraling. He tried to bring her back, but his wife caught him in the act. She then kills herself for unknown reasons, probably just because of the abuse she’s suffered at Antonio’s hands (bullwhip?) Lilly finds her and eventually runs away. Antonio, however, attempts to replicate her (the monster Lillies) and fails. Cut the loop of Lilly falling over and over. Her father allows this in the name of creating the “perfect” Lilly. The true ending is when original Lilly returns for Lilly #30. They assumedly burn down the college and stop the cycle. They then proceed to eat pancakes. I LOVE this game, it’s so good! The story is amazing, as well! To the game creator, who is actually in the comments: PLEASE keep making games! This is amazing, and you are an extremely talented artist!
The only thing I don't fully agree with with the summary is that it seems the game implies Antonio killed Lily's mom. Both from you getting a Dead End that breaks the 4th wall when seeing the hidden painting and, in the flashback with OG Lily climbing the ladder, texts pop up that's very clearly her mom fighting with Antonio and saying she's leaving and taking their kid. Him being a narcissist/abusive can't handle the lack of control he's told is about to happen and kills her as a result, but OG Lily manages to run anyway
I believe those monster Lilies were the some of the first to be created. The long tube one would've been the first, as it's the least Lily like, while the more humanoid, red eyed one with pupils would be last before he perfected the cloning process.
I was really surprised how genuine and true to life that ending felt. Like with how awkward but sincere the conversation is, that felt realistic. I kept waiting for a tragic twist but no it was just super sweet
This was something my therapist has been helping with the last couple of sessions. I wasn't abused as a child, but I am trans and repressed it for a long long time. I feel like I missed out on the childhood I should've had. Therapist told me to write a letter to my childhood self and to visualize her and just give her a hug.
Sheets probably would make a decent rope if that’s all you have. I think Mythbusters did a series of prison escape myths and they tested bed sheet ropes. From what I remember, bed sheets did pretty well. I honestly don’t remember. They also did a myth where you use toothpaste and dental floss to cut threw bars
@@jjaa_joyjoyartist From what I remember, bedsheets were an affective substitute, but Grant, the guy who tested it, got rope burns during his "escape". His injuries were more so the result of how Grant descended than what he used, though.
Spoilers! I loved the ending of this game! I was expecting some horrible ending where the father caught them and continued his experiments, I’m so glad it had a sweet ending where both Lily’s got away.
"It's okay if you still love him" that shit hurt me so bad...... damn.... its something ive only just learned to tell myself in recent years. recovering from an abusive childhood into adulthood is hard. this, despite being a surreal, horrific, and fictional game, really touched me. thanks for playing this!

@@zachmontminy sometimes I see a video in my recommendation that's years old and I watch it and it's like nothings changed. I'm glad he doesn't feel like he needs to change how he does things.
So looking up symbols and terms: Azoth = Was considered to be a universal medication or solvent. Essentially either hoping to be or is the universal center of all medical science this organization. Mercury symbol (female Venus symbol with horns) = In biology is used to denote an organism with male and female characteristics. The pink floor essentially contains the progenitor Lily. Gives my Elfen Lied vibes at this point in the game. I'm glad those two teamed up at the end.
I can't see the word Azoth without Haunting Ground coming to my mind. I haven't seen the video, yet (I know it'll be a million times better than the Game Grumps version I just saw...smh😅) but I'm guessing Papa won't be trying to rip Lilly apart for it?
I feel like this sorta speaks to how some parents only love their children when their young and listen to them without question but when the children grow up and start to form their own thoughts and opinions the parents love dwindles. Then the parents try again and again always getting the same result a child that removes themselves from the parents as soon as they can.
Yeah, the refusal to accept the child as an autonomous person with their own personality and ideas is a problem a lot of parents seem to struggle with...
The storytelling is brilliant. It's a hugely unique addition to the collection of RPG Maker titles. Huge kudos to the developer, and thank you for showing us this!
If I had a nickel for every time an insane scientist father cloned his daughter in an attempt to make a perfect version of her in the wake of her mother’s death, had a secret lab under his house filled with corpses and horrible experiments, had his house burned down, and had his daughter run away with help from an older woman that once loved him, I would have two nickels, which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice. Edit: The other game is Mad Father, and stop taking this comment so seriously
mad father didn't involve alfred cloning aya, though there is a scene after collecting all of the gems where a body can be seen in a glass tube. it's unconfirmed if it's a "clone" of aya or if it's another victim of alfred's
@@beckettericsson2554 In the original game's secret gem scene Ogre calls the girl his daughter and Alfred refers to her as Aya. I think that pretty much confirms it.
I feel like this game started off as expected and then ended as some poignant commentary on overcoming childhood abuse. Glad you played it! And big congrats on 1 mil!
Really liked this playthrough Manly. It was a really nice way to see an abusive cycle and learning to help yourself. It's also really cool art and despite being gruesome it never felt creepy or malicious about it, just somewhat honest. It was also nice to see the 'grown up' character being designed in a fashion that isn't commonly seen in these types of games. The alchemy part was a nice vessel along with whatever mommy issues Papa had. Though it is refreshing to see that all of the harmful characters are shown as surprisingly normal; the kind of people who you wouldn't assume are running a mass murder and child endangerment ring. Thanks for the playthrough Manly.
I like how most of the ending art is Lily dying in various horrific ways while the art used for the true ending is just the two Lilys eating pancakes like nothing happened.
Would love secret endings for trying to call 911 over and over (Lilly's determination breaking through to reveal secret lore or the police coming, seeing nothing wrong, then dad coming home and killing everyone), calling with a death count of 0 after deleting save, calling with a count of 69 for a Silent Hill style alien ending.
Man, this was really good. The idea of a loop-except-persistent game is always really cool to me, but the amount of TLC and effort that it feels like was put in is captivating: the way the idea of it being a continuous game instead of just loading files slowly creeps up on you is great (especially with features that seem like conveniences until it starts to add up), but it doesn't drag on, either, confirming that's what's happening as soon as you start to think you've got it figured out. I appreciate that it was an actual mid-story plot mechanic rather than a twist ending, too, it felt like the game really explored its ideas to the fullest where others might just drop the idea and leave. I also feel like it took some good creativity to make your actions persistent without having a bunch of obvious holes, too, like how you can feed the monster repeatedly for a purpose, how they managed to come up with a way to make the final lab scene loop while still feeling organic, making puzzles that make sense to stay solved, etc. Also a small thing but I really like how much it used the text box jump cut whenever something surprising happened. Not to mention the - sometimes cute and really well-made but - gruesome CGs, genuinely off-putting but in a good way. Maybe I'm weird for gushing so much about a game I didn't even play, but really, I love how well done it seemed. Honestly might have to go and buy it myself just to show support.
This was weirdly compelling to watch. It was... Spooky? Sad? It was a great many things, but none of them boring. In fact, I accidentally burned dinner because I was fascinated by this. Manly, your voice is very soothing, and took the edge off of some of the sudden scares that cropped up.
I wonder if there's like...secret dialogue if you entered OG Lily's number right off the bat. I mean, I imagine that the number is randomly generated every time so you'd have to brute force it but...I'd still love to see that extra little bit if there even is anything.
lilys well spoilers the end was genuinely sweet to see.. im glad there wasnt anything actually malicious or any horrible twist with the original lily. she just helped the, well, clone lily out of a shitty home. i love games like these
25:34 is a randomly triggered event and if you stick around for longer in that bloody fog you will continue to hear breathing and eventually a voice will speak the following: "As our last breaths leave our lips something new begins to enter our bodies. The flies come and begin to feed upon our rot. They then burrow into us and lay their eggs so that their children may join the feast upon their birth. When the maggots appear, they fatten up and help us return to the Earth. They make homes in our veins and meals of our skin. The maggots will always be there. They will be there if we have a funeral. They will be there if we are ever forgotten in the woods." The weird breathing will then return and the dialogue will loop. I found this while playing through the game myself and went on a hunt online to find what was being said.
Edit: Bit of a spoiler so be warned This whole game reminds me of a movie where this man kills wife or clones of his wife every time they discover her clones. It's at that point where he derive sick pleasure from doing so. I can infer that this dude is pretty much the same but what I don't understand is why he needed to clone his daughter if the original one is still alive, I guess they became estranged and he craves the "perfect" father daughter relationship but to go through a whole army of clones is just absurd
He seemed to think raising Lily from scratch again would make her turn out obedient, so she would never leave him, unlike the real Lily. At one point the game said something about him loving the memory of Lily, not the actual Lily. That certainly seemed to be the case. What he really wanted was a Lily that would do anything he said without question, so his real daughter might have paled in comparison to the idea of making a "perfect" Lily.
Ah, another long Manly video with an intriguing style to watch in bed- 17 ENDINGS??? Manly’s dedication to the games he plays STILL blows me away, I swear! Congrats on the 1mil, man, you’ve earned it a long time ago!!
I tried deciphering the "foreign" text from the game. It's Japanese, and its looks close to 母梅の髪, which roughly means "Mother Plum's Hair". That's what I think, but I don't really know for sure, because I am only starting to study the language, but it feels good to me to be able to recognize some of it!
That's correct. I think it's supposed to read as "Mama Ume's Hair" as 梅 can be a name and 母 by itself is informal. (as opposed to the standard お母さん) However, Japanese doesn't generally conjugate like that, so 母梅 looks like a name. As far as I can find, 母 isn't used in names. (I spent a very long time trying to make sense of it as a name...)
this games honestly felt really beautiful and symbollic to me, and a very artistic, and realistic representation about parental abuse, and becoming the person you wish you had when you were younger.
Reminds me of a game called Clock Tower: first fear. Another point and click horror game from the Snes era. If you don't gather the right items or investigate first before you do the common sense solution and just leave (or at this case climb down the well) you get a "dead end." Because theres are hidden psychos after you, with hidden dangers, and hidden choices.
Clock Tower series is one of my favorites! Honestly, just the sound of scissors snip-snapping, Bobby's theme that played whenever he's chasing Jennifer, or the theme song brought anxiety to me when I played it so many moons ago. Nowadays I play it whenever I'm bored or I'll watch youtubers' let's play for the nostalgia of being scared sh*tless back then 😄
@@jettlucashayes8508 lol that ending was stupid tho, you had to go through the 2nd level and some of 3rd level just to get that one ending. Just ONE. I'd understand if not examining the samurai armor would result in getting at least 3 endings but it was just. That. One. Ending G. URGH. (one of my many gripes about the 2nd game in PS1) 😐😐😐 edit: minor typo lol
For the one who want to know what is the 53:27 text: 1st text: And yet my flesh is apart of you. 2nd text: How selfish of Antonio to recreate the living before the Stardust Witch. This was a base64 format encoding
This is a really interesting take on concepts that have become pretty commonplace recently. The ending is especially sweet, in multiple meanings of the term xD
Thoughts on possible easter eggs. Call the phone number before learning it, possibly only before dying at all. Your recollection of the various deaths should logically be different. Reach papa without having died at all. Maybe those doors can be opened if you get the keycard, but not the master keycard; it says they responded ERROR to the master card, but what does it say if you don't have the master? The mandrogora plant was mentioned in the book, and I think some were growing near the house, can you pick them? What happens if you collect EVERY rope, not just the good ones? I think there's 15 total. Probably just breaks anyway.
hi, I tried some of these while playing the game if you collect all the ropes, it plays the "your rope is creaking, something is very wrong" end; if you call the number before you "learn" it, original Lily complains about the hour, won't let you speak and hangs up on you, the new version Lily says she probably shouldn't call again and disables the interaction until you die; I tried picking Mandragoras up but I couldn't find any I hope this scratches an itch
Just for those who are curious, the text at 53:27 is encoded in Base64. Decoded, it reads: "And yet, my flesh is a part of you." "How selfish of Antonio to recreate the living, before the Stardust Witch."
At this point man I gotta ask; what is the choosing process for games you make videos on? You play the most obscure shit out of anyone I've met in my life, let alone on UA-cam. No insult meant, just genuinely interested. P.S. congrats on a mil, been watching for a LONG while and don't plan on stopping anytime soon, ManlyBadassHeroofJusticeWeeaboo, king of obscure horror
I've been watching his videos since 2012, at this point i think he just enjoys playing these games because indie games like this (he sometimes play non horror games too) tend to be very interesting and more memorable than triple A these days. This game in the video alone is a great example.
I'm not the one with the answers, but there seems to be little method to the madness. There seems to be anything from shitposts (the among us buff imposter games) to gems like Cat in the Box. Probably my favorite thing about this channel.
Honestly after so many bummer endings, it's really refreshing to get a happy ending. There's only so many bummers you can handle before you just get depressed, this was really nice and made me love the game more.
I'm glad this game had a good end, some of these don't and it bugs me. This was really good and I loved how everything was connected. The style of it looks good too, the dev and everyone who helped on getting this done did an amazing job.
This was actually an amazing game. So many details and such a pretty good storyline put together. The way it also holds onto progression so you dont have to undergo so many tedious details! It might not be "A cat in the Box" but it was just as haunting. Maybe even a bittersweet ending.
So, papa had the screams of the First Lily recorded for more experimentation. The hair issues came from the cloning, and the hair was there from the start of the game, implying she had been killed before (she had normal hair in flashback) and is still being tested on to make her Perfect. Most likely explains the character of Papa pretty well.
did anyone notice the "Dwarf Mandagora" is best served with beef and melted cheese? its similar to the dinner Lily's dad gave her at the start of the game
I guess you can say that Lily is a Rei of sunshine in her father’s life? I guess another title for this game could be: _Get in the goddamn well, Lily!_
Excellent stuff. Some amusingly dark endings, some that are too dark to call amusing (shout out to the pillow ending, honestly think that's the darkest death), and an ending reveal that genuinely caught me off-guard. This was a good time.
Sometimes no matter what you try or the amount of suffering you go through, your parent won't accept you unless you fully confirm to the idea of you they have. And sometimes the best you can do for yourself is burning that bridge down, leaving and finding yourself a new family. Also as a child with abusive parents, you end up having to be your own parental figure, cutting yourself some slack and cheering yourself up. I feel like it's a very relatable game and the violence actually has a point which is rare.
I find myself wondering how original Lilly feels about there being a clone of her younger self. Like would she treat her as basically her daughter and adopt or treat her like a younger sister.
It depends on her age, I guess. She still looks sort of young so I guess the original Lily is more likely to treat her and introduce her as her younger sister than as her daughter, but it may just be me

I expected the clone lilly to kill papa with the knife
I was holding my breath the entire time silently screaming for them to just LEAVE. Flee! Please! It's a cutscene! This is the place protagonists can DIE!
@@PatchyDragon Same!
@@PatchyDragon yeah I wonder if that was done intentionally, the dialogue seems deliberately like.. neither of the girls understand the danger properly, and the happy ending being dangled in front of you is way too saccharine, like you can't believe it could be true, especially after all the mindfucks you've been through
but sometimes it is like that and you get pancakes.
Holy shit same
I think what's interesting is that the original Lily is the complete opposite of the cloned Lilly.
But bc of his obsession with control he never appreciated that hes already got the kind of daughter most will find 'perfect' in a human way
ofc he's also a maniac so theres that
Apparently he also hated the fact she kept "thinking voices (crying for help) were more important than Papa".

"The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb"
If blood was not a good enough excuse to make them not abuse you, then blood is not a good enough excuse to tolerate it
Yeah the ending was so so validating. Finally a character in a horror game who can comfort the victim WITHOUT ending up dying.
who asked
Usually there are 2 factors that lead to determining if people are family. #1 is Family though blood; Being related to someone through genes . #2 is Family through bond; Having developed a special connection to someone for how they treat you and how you feel about them and vice versa. The latter however is usually the true determining factor, while the former is more of an add-on and proof of where you came from.

waking back up in that bed again is ironically comforting in comparison. I dunno if it's intended, but it's an amazingly good metaphor for abuse.
I wonder who or what the narrator is though...
I think that the narrator is actually Lily's soul, seeing as it talks about the loop's effects while Lily herself has only vague memories

Dude, this game made me cry so much
My father had parents who were abusive of him too.
My mom has kind of told me the same thing (she’s not abusive or anything) but her parents were not the best and didn’t always help her when she needed it so she told us that “I will always love you but that doesn’t mean I will like you”
I know the feeling, for me it's more of a love-hate situation tho

I think it's a huge twist that the original lily is still alive in this game, not only that but she sent her dad a letter and asked him to stay in contact with her. This feels like a metaphor for holding on to abusive family members and trying to make it work, but in the end you just end up trapped in the same destructive cycles, feeling the same frustrations you felt as a kid. lily's only able to set her younger self free when she burns her bridges and leaves her dad behind for good. this is such a unique take and I loved the happy ending

okay, he specifically told lily never to call 911, implying that what he was doing was something he could get in trouble for if discovered by law enforcement. meaning that even in the context of the game's world; antonio's actions were unethical and unacceptable. but the kicker is, he was doing it to develop a 'perfect' *OBIDIENT* daughter, which his REAL ORIGINAL daughter wasn't. he's not doing it to further any greater goal, he's not doing it as part of an experiment, or as research or anything else other than... just wanting a slave that looks like his daughter. all that time, energy, resource and manpower....wasted on one man's sadistic narcissism. antonio literally developed a method of creating life, and a potential path to immortality...

Honestly might have to go and buy it myself just to show support.
ooh baby its free on steam
The prequel to The Well Speaks to Me
Edit: Nevermind, this game is way more intense than The Well Speaks to Me
I thought this game might have been connected to that series
This was weirdly compelling to watch. It was... Spooky? Sad? It was a great many things, but none of them boring. In fact, I accidentally burned dinner because I was fascinated by this. Manly, your voice is very soothing, and took the edge off of some of the sudden scares that cropped up.
It was also shockingly nostalgic. Honestly gives me similar feelings to my first time watching an Undertale playthrough when I was 11.
"Who uploads a UA-cam video at 3 in the morning!?"

I wonder if there's like...secret dialogue if you entered OG Lily's number right off the bat. I mean, I imagine that the number is randomly generated every time so you'd have to brute force it but...I'd still love to see that extra little bit if there even is anything.
If I remember well there is a dialogue if you call her right off the bat without doing all ten main endings

As the developer noted, a happy ending is well earned by that point

25:34 is a randomly triggered event and if you stick around for longer in that bloody fog you will continue to hear breathing and eventually a voice will speak the following:
"As our last breaths leave our lips something new begins to enter our bodies. They will be there if we are ever forgotten in the woods."
The weird breathing will then return and the dialogue will loop. I found this while playing through the game myself and went on a hunt online to find what was being said.
Edit: Bit of a spoiler so be warned
This whole game reminds me of a movie where this man kills wife or clones of his wife every time they discover her clones. It's at that point where he derive sick pleasure from doing so. I can infer that this dude is pretty much the same but what I don't understand is why he needed to clone his daughter if the original one is still alive, I guess they became estranged and he craves the "perfect" father daughter relationship but to go through a whole army of clones is just absurd
we need the title of those movie
...
for research purpose
I tried to search the movie.. Is it called Elizabeth Harvest?
yeah, i checked, and the movie's plot on wikipedia does match the description…
anyway thanks
Elizabeth Harvest! I watched that with my boyfriend once and I was thinkimg the same thing while watching this.
It can either be used to mean "plum" or as a name "Ume." I think it’s meant to be a name here, but I dunno lmao
The font for the title screen makes " Lily's Well look like " Lily's hell ". Neat.
17 endings. My gosh! Manly has a lot of patience
Indeed

@@TUYUlover Yes
It's not patience, it's the love of games. Manly's love of games is what's so great about him. He wants to see every ending just as much as we do! ✨
this games honestly felt really beautiful and symbollic to me, and a very artistic, and realistic representation about parental abuse, and becoming the person you wish you had when you were younger.
Nowadays I play it whenever I'm bored or I'll watch youtubers' let's play for the nostalgia of being scared sh*tless back then 😄
@@estellefreya also can’t forget about ghost head and being crushed by a samurai armor because you didn’t check it in the first level
@@jettlucashayes8508 lol that ending was stupid tho, you had to go through the 2nd level and some of 3rd level just to get that one ending. Just ONE. I'd understand if not examining the samurai armor would result in getting at least 3 endings but it was just. That. One. Ending G. URGH. (one of my many gripes about the 2nd game in PS1) 😐😐😐
edit: minor typo lol
For the one who want to know what is the 53:27 text:
1st text: And yet my flesh is apart of you.
Probably just breaks anyway.
hi, I tried some of these while playing the game
if you collect all the ropes, it plays the "your rope is creaking, something is very wrong" end; if you call the number before you "learn" it, original Lily complains about the hour, won't let you speak and hangs up on you, the new version Lily says she probably shouldn't call again and disables the interaction until you die; I tried picking Mandragoras up but I couldn't find any
I hope this scratches an itch
@@calipigenia you can probably collect only good ropes and try it that way. theres like 10 as manly showed.
Something : *_is empty_*
Me expecting the famous line :
"Ahh shit, here we go again"
If anyone was confused on how the attic event happened when manly was in a office the red floating text said there is a ladder in the pantry
Not sure why, but stories like this always rope me in for some reason, I hope more games like this get released
That pun was hilarious.
Get out 😂
Just for those who are curious, the text at 53:27 is encoded in Base64. Decoded, it reads:
"And yet, my flesh is a part of you."
"How selfish of Antonio to recreate the living, before the Stardust Witch."
Papa: "Oh no, my daughter went goth! :( I wanted her to become anime... welp, off to the cloning chamber I go >:) "
"Maybe if you came across a sea turtle that needs to suffocate you can come back to this. "
developer WHAT
At this point man I gotta ask; what is the choosing process for games you make videos on? You play the most obscure shit out of anyone I've met in my life, let alone on UA-cam. No insult meant, just genuinely interested.
P.S. congrats on a mil, been watching for a LONG while and don't plan on stopping anytime soon, ManlyBadassHeroofJusticeWeeaboo, king of obscure horror
I've been watching his videos since 2012, at this point i think he just enjoys playing these games because indie games like this (he sometimes play non horror games too) tend to be very interesting and more memorable than triple A these days. This game in the video alone is a great example.
i think manly said at least once that he just camps some sites and keep track of what horror titles pop up and then give some of them a go
I'm not the one with the answers, but there seems to be little method to the madness. There seems to be anything from shitposts (the among us buff imposter games) to gems like Cat in the Box.
Probably my favorite thing about this channel.

Bonus note: the text that flashes for an instant after the fatal error message but before the game freezes says “NO WAIT I WANT TO REMEMBER”
Honestly after so many bummer endings, it's really refreshing to get a happy ending. There's only so many bummers you can handle before you just get depressed, this was really nice and made me love the game more.
weebs in the tombstone read 母梅の髪 which literally means "mother plum's hair" or "mother Ume's hair"
Ume is a character from the dev's previous game "I Cannot Drown"
Dude. The fact that no music played for the first ending scared the crap out of me omfg
The best big sister is apparently yourself. Also, that Manly reference was *perfect.*
Congrats on a million!
did anyone notice the "Dwarf Mandagora" is best served with beef and melted cheese? its similar to the dinner Lily's dad gave her at the start of the game
I honestly really love the message in this game about abuse-
I feel like this is underrated :(
I like how the original lily wanted to keep contact with the father, but he was so blind to obedience, she was practically dead to him.
I guess you can say that Lily is a Rei of sunshine in her father’s life?
I guess another title for this game could be:
_Get in the goddamn well, Lily!_

Ah, yes, *Nebby's Revenge*
Translation of 53:26 (spoilers):
And yet my flesh is a part of you.
How selfish of Antonio to recreate the living before the Stardust Witch.
I find myself wondering how original Lilly feels about there being a clone of her younger self. Like would she treat her as basically her daughter and adopt or treat her like a younger sister.
It depends on her age, I guess. She still looks sort of young so I guess the original Lily is more likely to treat her and introduce her as her younger sister than as her daughter, but it may just be me
Manly's reaction to the "Empty. Like your soul." is just fantastic.
