I’ve had my EV6 AWD Wind for a little over a week and I’m loving it. It’s my first EV. I have access to free charging at the town hall behind our house. Pretty sweet.
Great video, I haven't seen one as in depth as this going into all the menu options. I got my UK spec one at the beginning of August and absolutely love it. Still playing about with lots of different settings and finding new stuff too.
From Australia. Awesome explanation. Will definitely be watching this several times, i pick up my EV6 tomorrow. Pretty excited. P.S Has anyone told you, you look like Eric Bana? Lol. Cheers mate
Thanks for your reply. And yep, first time owning an ev. I've always been a petrol head and love driving my Hilux but after I test drove the GT line I knew I needed to get one.
Dang, this guy is so informative...i don't think i ever seen a review like this lol. So thorough... Is this 2023 version? Do the 2024 have wireless Carplay now? No one likes that they have to plug in to get Carplay to work lol.
Haha just a few things covered off in these videos. Yeah, this one is a 2023 but there are no differences in the EV6 from 2023 to 2024 outside of a small price increase. Oddly enough still no wireless CarPlay or Android Auto. I keep calling manufacturers out in my videos because I think that should be standard tech now
@CarsWithSteve Yup! And I feel like it would be hard to go back to an ICE now :) I've been looking at it for a while. It's my dream car and I finally got it. The two things that are not perfect are wired Android Auto, which I fixed by getting a wireless dongle. And speakers are very good, but not great. So I'm planning to replace them with a nice Sony ES set.
Always great to hear when people are driving their dream car! Solid upgrade choices there too. I'm leaning towards an EV for my next ride but with all the ones I've reviewed.. trying to pick one is tricky
@@CarsWithSteve I vote for the EV6. It's the sexiest looking EV imho. And Kia is one of the most reliable brands. One thing I was expecting with an EV is range anxiety, but it turns out I don't even need a Level 2 charger! I can top it up by plenty of juice overnight!
I've found the same thing now that I have press cars for a week at a time! I've only needed a level 2 charger once when I was on the road but otherwise plugging overnight has been the way to go. There are 3 EVs on my list.. it'll be between this, the Ioniq 6 or Mach-E. Going to take each one for a week when it's snowing to figure out how well they do
@@CarsWithSteve we have less trim choice up her in Canada than in the US. I wanted the wind long range because of long range but we don't have the wind long range awd her so I went for the land since it is awd even if it got 50km less of range than the wind long range. We can get a lot of snow here so I needed awd.
Yup, I'm in Canada as well and always choose to go AWD. It really is unfortunate we don't get as many trim level options as the US. Is it the first time you'll be in an EV as well?
Nice! I've been in a Genesis GV70 EV for the past week and really enjoy it. No home charging station though so it's a level 1 trickle and using a level 2 close to my gym. Range anxiety was real for the first few days until I found a regular level 2 charger I could use
It's a weird way to do it. Launch into CarPlay and then start the map application you want to use. Press the Radio button to the left of the tuning rocker (make sure that you've pressed the Climate/Feature button to get to that menu), then tune to the station you want. After it starts playing, then launch back into CarPlay and you're good to go! If you've selected split screen (covered in the CarPlay section of this video) then it'll be split, otherwise it'll be full screen CarPlay
I’m curious about the foot room for rear passengers. Context - while my better half was looking at a Kia Sportage, i hopped into the drivers seat, and then rear passenger seat of an ev6 in the showroom. Driver’s seat, great. Rear passenger, my toes would barely fit under the driver’s seat - i bounced out thinking ‘that’ll never work’. In retrospect i realise that the driver’s seat may have been all the way down.
Get it delivered towards the end of next month Steve. Excited! I've saved your video in my favourites list and will no doubt be sitting with laptop on my knee letting you guide me through the systems. Thanks again.@@CarsWithSteve
A question: given one uses Apple carplay or Android auto for navigation: can the battery preconditioning be selected from within those or do you have to rely on car's native navigation system only? I do have seen some video where android auto and car nat nav were somehow on at the same time, but its setup needed a PhD grade from MIT 😂
There's a phone app for pre-conditiong. It'll be Kia Connect or Kia eServies on the iPhone/Google Play store. It lets you control climate, remote start and a bunch of other things. Most EV 6's should have a split screen option for CarPlay and Android Auto - it's covered in this video under Device Connections, just make sure that "Use Split Screen" is checked
I can’t get the CarPlay to connect on my new EV6. Just says connect a USB which I have done. I have to the new iPhone so the cord is a usb-c and j even checked the cord. Help!
It's most likely where you're trying to plug in. I find the USB-C ports don't like to transfer data properly. You'll probably have to find a USB-A to USB-C cable or adapter and use the EV6's USB-A port instead
What if you want to drive longer than the distance the battery has. Will the navigation enter a charging stop and how long you have to charge, as Tesla does?
Never thought about showcasing that in the video. Yes there's the option to do that and there was an OTA update a month and change back that now lets you add the charging stops automatically!
Hi Steve, on the Canada EV6 Gt line 2 front seats, is there a relaxation button? I saw that in some videos but not sure if Canada has it. Is there an official full spec available for Canada?
Great review Steve. I loved test driving the 2024 EV6 GT, but it's a little out of our price range. Is the Niro very similar? Which used EV is the best would you say?
Thank you! The Niro is going to be a step down from the EV6 for sure. If you want some options for EVs with similar power you could look at the Ioniq 5 or 6, Mach E Select AWD Extended Range or the Nissan Ariya
Wow. So cool that you replied (and so quickly)! I also liked driving the Ariya. Not impressed with the Mach E. Have not been able to try the Ionic 5 or 6 yet. (I did however find a regular Ionic like you mentioned in your video. Q1-How does that compare with the 5 or 6?) Q2-Which of those you mentioned holds its value best?
I always try to get back to people! The Ariya was such a nice car overall, Nissan did a great job with it. I believe the Ioniq I referenced in this video is the Ioniq 5, it's a hatchback similar to the EV6. The Ioniq 6 is closer to a sedan and has very similar exterior styling to a Porsche. Kia and Hyundai vehicles have nearly identical tech as Hyundai owns Kia! Most EVs will lose value the first few years of ownership. The Ioniq 5 has been out since 2022 and depending on mileage they're selling for around $40k CAD, which is about $15k less than they were new. So it's taken about a 10% hit per year on total value. If you're going used you'll probably be able to find a good deal on a 2022 Ioniq 5 but if you're going for an Ariya or Ioniq 6 it would be better to buy new to get a lower interest rate (plus you'll be paying close to the same amount anyways)
a advantage with the blinkers showing the camera. Yes u can look over ur shoulder, however u cant look how close a object is that is under door height. so ur not drivng to close taking a turn to tight or so. i did curb my rims in a turn and if i had this feature on i would probably have not curbed it. Yes its a human error and my own fault but hey thats neat and cool and usefull in right situations
Might be simple for you but there's a reason why I do the longer videos that I do.. As for the live charging test, this was a dealership demo so I wasn't able to take it around for charging tests. Planning on that when I get an EV6 press vehicle later this year though!
Think very hard before getting one. I've had mine two weeks and it's been a total pain. Rubbish app, will not auto charge, keeps telling me it's not plugged in when it is, quirky infotainment, developed a rattle and the range is a joke. Not had so much trouble with a car since I went through my Alfa Romeo phase in the 80s.
Home charger Steve. I'm afraid that's me finished with Kia. The guys at the dealers are not all that knowledgeable I'm sorry to say. Wish I could go back to my BMW, but have been offered £14,000 less than I paid for it in part exchange, so I guess I'm stuck! When I want to charge the car on cheap overnight electricity I have to set the alarm to midnight, get up, get dressed and go out and do it manually. I'd set fire to it if I wasn't into so much money. @@CarsWithSteve
Hmm.. I've seen a few different forum posts from people with similar issues. In your charge settings in the infotainment have you tried lowering your charge speed to medium? People seem to have issues with level 2 charging when it's set to high, specifically because of overvoltage and the charger protecting itself.
I'll give it a go, but it charges just fine when connected up and started 'manually'. I'm off to the dealer again tomorrow, see if I can speak with a technician; but it's a bit of a trip, a sixty-mile round journey each time. Really eats into the day, especially five visits since I purchased it two weeks ago. If I'm not on my own it makes me wonder if there is a glitch in the model. Thanks for your thoughts though. Take care. Regards Richard. @@CarsWithSteve
