If you were a medical doctor you would be adding 30 years of additional life to hospice patients on life support. Love watching your work. Great shot at the end of all that glowing goodness.
Few people would have the skill, time or patience to bring these relics of a forgotten time back to life, but Shango certainly does. Another amazing save from the scrap heap job once again. Thanks for the awesome videos sir.
Another *very interesting* and detailed video, Shango! By 1966, manufacturers and the relevant Federal regulatory agencies were becoming increasingly aware that shielding of high-voltage components was necessary to protect those individuals who repaired these sets from dangerous levels of ionizing X-radiation.
I have a flat screen, but I love electronics, and these sets are what I worked on at the shop, my boss made us fix everything, kept everything, so if we could swap or rejuvenate a tube so he could charge for it we did it, this is very nostalgic for me, I used to fix all my friends stereo equipment and loved it all, one of my friends bought a jukebox from a bar and I would do the maintenance on it ,45 rpm records only
Awesome! I feel your pain, been burned by focus and anode before! Ouch! Loved the way you adjusted both the color and horizontal oscillator! You're right, that picture is good! Spent many hours performing convergence and forgot most of it. Was great reliving it! Great job!
Excellent series of videos on that sylvania. And yes the picture did in fact look that good. I never knew that a worn out color tube TV from the mid 60s could have a better picture than most solid state TV sets from the 80s and 90s.
Your TV restauration video's are a;ways heaven to watch. some people need to get a life putting in negative comments, they usually don't participate in any video's anyway. Keep up the great work Shango.
just recently found these videos on youtube and am impressed at your work, brings back a lot of memories, I'd just like to say "Thank You" for doing what you obviously love and sharing it for all of us whom know what being skilled really is.
Your work and patience are amazing! While these older sets are cool, I don't miss those days of convergence, purity, geometry, alignment and raster sizing. I don't like LCD either with all of their goofy backlighting "tricks". I'll keep enjoying my Panasonic plasma which had better last well until something actually comparable becomes affordable. I'll still enjoy watching your videos and seeing you bring these old timers back to life!
I was just getting started with repairing TV's when this model came out. My high school shop teacher set an area aside for me to do my work as class credit. Later on I was hired by a local TV dealer.
Fantastic work Shang's! Classic night-glow shot at the end! Makes you want to grab a stick and roast a few marshmallows! Thank you for sharing this project!
Nice job on restoring that Sylvania! The before and after is amazing! Looks like Shango took one for the team! Kind of sad though; all that work to fix that ol' girl just to find that mindless programming....
I remember all this stuff from 40 odd years ago , and the zaps from focus units. Purity set on pure red , then static and dynamic convergence . PAL in UK of course. Ref. Osc 4.43 MHz. Good tube for its age .
+BUDDY LIGHT ,,ha hah remember this ole thing?www.stevieray.com/images-a/garagesale/ant-tv.jpg used a coathanger for an antenna,,had to bang the bastard on the side to stop flickering
Very nice. your prediction on hurting yourself was correct. Only time I received a electrical burn aside from burns from hot wires was from a automotive neon light.
"What us ancient dinosaurs refer to as snow". For some reason that made me LOL. Probably just the way you said it. I've been shocked by focus voltage more than once, so I know exactly how that feels. I've actually been thinking of finding an old TV to fix up after watching a bunch of your videos. But I think the most interesting one I have is a 1970's color portable. Nothing nearly as cool as your old tube sets.
Glad to see ya got it going. Looks good! As for snow on the screen, you might have a weak mixer/local oscillator tube. The snow on the CRT is AM noise from the local oscillator, and the rushing sound in the audio is FM noise from the LO.
Gotta love those zorch attacks. That injury is all too familiar. TVs are one thing, and I got bit many times. When the anode of the HOT reaches out and grabs you it's got a heckuva sting to it. In other pursuits, such as transmitter work, I found more ways to cook myself from the inside out than you can shake a stick at. RF is funny stuff. :)
In Germany are these Tube TV´is so rare to find, and very expensive. I want such an tv, so much. I have an Tube DDR Radio, and have hat repair it for myself.
Really thank you for mentioning that you don't ship at the moment. Because I wondered about this a long time, actually I asked you already so thanks for the answer. But maybe you do in 4 years or at least still restoring them.
Awesome picture on that one even though the CRT is aged. Sylvania, in my opinion had a great picture but there have been reliability issues with their CRT's in my experience. Their receiving tubes are the opposite-top notch quality.
So that proves that HV from TV's don't kill, Jesus Christ that's a nasty RF burn. I hate it when that happen, would make me toss the TV across the windows... Nice job on that TV Shangoo as always :)
Awesome restore , especially the glass-transplant and final product: a great picture and sound and the set looks great on the outside, too. That was was a hell of a friggin' zap off the focus circuit, too... here, you deserve this: media.liveauctiongroup.net/i/8546/9876604_1.jpg?v=8CD2D7180ED55E0 (That photo is of a vintage 1944 Navy Purple Heart I found in the stash of Purple Heart Google images... it's a 800 X 1333 resolution image and expands nicely and shows the detail in the medal.)
Three point five eighths? ;) Is that a non-metric crystal? I'm impressed that no beeping out was required for that burn. Did you actually get flaming skin? Nay, we are not bored yet at all. On the contrary, it is getting exciting. But now I feel depressed. Here in Australia, we did not get colour television until 1975. By that time the electronics was boring solid state.
Ugh...Sprout TV which I had no idea even existed UNTIL we had grand-kids, no every time they are over it's all I see. My brain is melting............how did I ever grow up with only Roy Rogers, Rin Tin Tin and Looney Tunes?
Is there any way you can get the equipment and start rebuilding them yourself? There used to be a guy in Coos Bay,Oregon back in the '60s or '70s who had his own CRT rebuilding facility. As I understand it,CRTs stopped being manufactured in the mid to late 2000s.
That's a *really nasty* radiation burn on your thumb, Shango! Detonation of unstable CRTs is definitely a possibility when these components are outside of their safely mounted positions in the television cabinet, and using Personal Protective Equipment is a *must* to prevent blinding, dismemberment and/or castration as the result of its detonation. This is a potentially *dangerous* task.
Hi Shang, I'm repairing a icf-5900w the idiot who was trying to repair it prior to me spread epoxy all over the 4 in speaker. Any idea where I can get a 4 in dia recone kit?
Where to you get your TV source.... are you just injecting a channel 3 or 4 video signal in the antenna .... are you using a digital to analog converter or cable TV box... Is this vintage TV program, is cabbage patch kids still a thing... Thanks
'Trash it' means they don't care much. This 'stuff' is COOL! Thanks for noting what doing; see it? - watch the pain. Cartoons still like this? 'Multi Cultural' - Get Sesame Street, everything included, plus silly fun. No one cared 'what' one was.
That set looked like an EOL for sure, Shango salvaged it, amazing. It's hard to admit that we pay for that retarded TV programming. Maybe Shaango will make a NAKED AND ADRAID, OK nearly naked, or TWO DEUDS SURVIVE vid to survive 21 days in a mine. But can you get food and water in a mine? snakes, bugs, bats, can it be done?
Please respond i don't like hd tvs they don't work. Crt tvs have best im that one kid tha fobordind noah is my dad in that black and white sony tv and please respond as soon as possible
LOL, don’t hold your breath waiting for a positive friend invite! I tried that over 2 years ago & was a friend (well I thought I was) then got dumped & blocked. :( But you should be ok because you’re not female like me..........I don’t think shango likes females, specially my kind. LOL 😂
If you were a medical doctor you would be adding 30 years of additional life to hospice patients on life support. Love watching your work. Great shot at the end of all that glowing goodness.

Glad to see there still are people with a good heart en knowledge to repair the REAL television-sets..! thanks for upload
Shango, your repair videos of old school gear, are an amazing journey that I never got to see before .. thx ☺️ …
Shango, your repair videos are an amazing journey, that’s only possible the old school way that I never got to see before. Thx 😊…
Perfect colour and glowing tubes at the wrap. Excellent job.
Love what you do. Old things are beautiful even if they don't work as well as new stuff.
Ahh, the warm glow of tubes. I"m glad you came back to this set, and it turned out really nice.
Never bored. Been waiting on this vid to come up. Tube tv's are a bit of history to be preserved. There was a time when there were no flat screens.
I have a flat screen, but I love electronics, and these sets are what I worked on at the shop, my boss made us fix everything, kept everything, so if we could swap or rejuvenate a tube so he could charge for it we did it, this is very nostalgic for me, I used to fix all my friends stereo equipment and loved it all, one of my friends bought a jukebox from a bar and I would do the maintenance on it ,45 rpm records only
I so love how your fix vintage tvs. I always enjoyed the color and just the relaibility of them.
Awesome! I feel your pain, been burned by focus and anode before! Ouch! Loved the way you adjusted both the color and horizontal oscillator! You're right, that picture is good! Spent many hours performing convergence and forgot most of it. Was great reliving it! Great job!
I'm loving these vintage restoration videos. Thanks for sharing

Very VERY cool. That was so much fun to watch. I am on the lookout for an old tabletop now.
Hope you dont stop making these vintage television repair vids soon. Really enjoy them. Cheers.
Your TV restauration video's are a;ways heaven to watch. some people need to get a life putting in negative comments, they usually don't participate in any video's anyway. Keep up the great work Shango.

I moved my kids into a multicultural neighborhood too. We have Protestants and Catholics.
I remember all this stuff from 40 odd years ago , and the zaps from focus units. Purity set on pure red , then static and dynamic convergence . PAL in UK of course. Ref. Osc 4.43 MHz. Good tube for its age .
Love the new videos in 1080p! Can see much more detail of the sets.
This reminds me of when I was a kid through the 50's and 60's trying to adjust one of these old crappy sets.
+BUDDY LIGHT ,,ha hah remember this ole thing?www.stevieray.com/images-a/garagesale/ant-tv.jpg
used a coathanger for an antenna,,had to bang the bastard on the side to stop flickering
Tom Kelly
We had plenty of those old junky tv sets. When they were brand new they were junk. Once we had sound on one and picture on another.
we at least know they are in someones pile to be recycled in india, china, somewhere out there,,or part of this era tater & veggie peelers,
I could watch Shango videos, even turning knobs, forever.
Nice to see Shango066 hard at work again.
Very nice.
your prediction on hurting yourself was correct.
Only time I received a electrical burn aside from burns from hot wires was from a automotive neon light.
Fantastic, took a while to complete but turned out very well IMO. It made a very good series of videos.
YES! finally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! its been almost a year Shango!
Awesome! I'm really impressed how good the color is with a weak red gun. Great job. Sorry about your hand my friend.
Great job! This one put up a fight for sure. The Red came in better than I thought for the emissions test results :-)
that's pretty awesome that you work on all TVs like that
that snow on the screen is noise from the big bang millions of years ago
I like when you squirt spritzer the tuner. Interesting how it looked clean and was still dirty.
Wow! This really brings back memories. Thanks.
"What us ancient dinosaurs refer to as snow". For some reason that made me LOL. Probably just the way you said it.

YAY! Hey maxx!!! How is the marantz 1030 and 1060!??? How is the Chevy running??? Steven
+Steven King Everything is fine so far, I just wish I had more time to make videos.
Yeah, we do too Maxx. Ok well take care. Get ready for snow. S
are you a female?
Glad to see ya got it going. Looks good! As for snow on the screen, you might have a weak mixer/local oscillator tube. The snow on the CRT is AM noise from the local oscillator, and the rushing sound in the audio is FM noise from the LO.
Radio frequency Burns rules!
Haaa, it's appropriate that you commented on this one, RF Burns!
They may not be the most reliable sets, but I really do like the controls for adjusting the convergence on the CRT.
yay! i love all the cool shit you do! i have all solid state crt's but you make me wish i had a tube or 2!
I need that cathodic technology. So much lively than old OLED panels !
In Germany are these Tube TV´is so rare to find, and very expensive. I want such an tv, so much. I have an Tube DDR Radio, and have hat repair it for myself.
I still have a color crt tv in my kitchen , i had just to plug an external box to the scart plug to watch the hd terrestrial tv on it .
Really thank you for mentioning that you don't ship at the moment. Because I wondered about this a long time, actually I asked you already so thanks for the answer. But maybe you do in 4 years or at least still restoring them.
GENIAL que buen audio y color perfecto, estas TV's duran mucho tiempo👍😁😃
Love that set, better in my opinion than the new ones....
+dynamic881964 not a chance, plasma is king especially the pioneer plasma sets
Gladly let you have my share..... ham operator and the plasma sets create noise on some of the ham bands. . .
( on my receiver )....
then use a surpressor
congratulations for your work
Awesome picture on that one even though the CRT is aged. Sylvania, in my opinion had a great picture but there have been reliability issues with their CRT's in my experience. Their receiving tubes are the opposite-top notch quality.
Shango's got skin in the game! ⭐️
I agree. This set plays pretty good now. Cabinet stamp 5/18/65 @ 2:17? Wow.
You really made my day with this video that;s really cool -:)
Extremly clear image on the tube in the first seconds of the video :))
That CRT might be weak, but it still puts out a nice picture.
Boy those good HV burns are only for gods xD
After 14:11 Now thats a Trip !
So that proves that HV from TV's don't kill, Jesus Christ that's a nasty RF burn. I hate it when that happen, would make me toss the TV across the windows... Nice job on that TV Shangoo as always :)
Try a rejuvenate using a BKR or something like that! I love neck sparkles!
Should try a demagnatizing coil. That often fixed color smearing
"I love the smell of burned shango in the morning..."
The last couple 3:4 TVs I had, didn’t have snow with no signal, just solid blue …
I got a whiff of that burning Sylvania board smell while watching this video.....
Awesome restore , especially the glass-transplant and final product: a great picture and sound and the set looks great on the outside, too.
That was was a hell of a friggin' zap off the focus circuit, too... here, you deserve this:

Wouldn't it be cool if CRT TV's made a comeback? And a manufacturer made new picture tubes for all models? Crazy thought. I know.
came up well!
Silly question time! What is the intense reddish orange glow on the chassis around 27:48? Some sort of neon lamp?
Yes, for some reason the motherboard has a neon pilot lamp on it.
Maybe a safety device to drain down the capacitors?
Three point five eighths? ;) Is that a non-metric crystal?
I'm impressed that no beeping out was required for that burn. Did you actually get flaming skin?
Nay, we are not bored yet at all. On the contrary, it is getting exciting.
But now I feel depressed. Here in Australia, we did not get colour television until 1975. By that time the electronics was boring solid state.
True, us Aussies weren't so lucky like the USA as we had to wait till 1975 to see glorious colour tv here!
Looks like some kind of alien signaling, a la Outer Limits! 👽
you did a good job
So there were actually color television sets with tubes. I thought color came after tubes were replaced with transistors. Interesting!
I love your posts man. I can see some silicone you used on the left side of the tube! Very naughty?
Ugh...Sprout TV which I had no idea even existed UNTIL we had grand-kids, no every time they are over it's all I see. My brain is melting............how did I ever grow up with only Roy Rogers, Rin Tin Tin and Looney Tunes?

43:16 I thought that was a night view of your neighborhood.
GOOD JOB

Hi Shang,
I'm repairing a icf-5900w the idiot who was trying to repair it prior to me spread epoxy all over the 4 in speaker. Any idea where I can get a 4 in dia recone kit?
Why put the screens all the way up? I started at the bottom and worked my way up to avoid blooming?
Where to you get your TV source.... are you just injecting a channel 3 or 4 video signal in the antenna .... are you using a digital to analog converter or cable TV box... Is this vintage TV program, is cabbage patch kids still a thing... Thanks
i want a color tube tv now.
Trippy
The flat screens are crap. At least they put a little bit of effort into the old stuff
UA-cam's compression does not like this TV :D
It gets all blocky when it displays the test image
hey were can I get one of those bird hand pupets
Why, in God's name?
Your the best
Good for you save them
'Trash it' means they don't care much. This 'stuff' is COOL! Thanks for noting what doing; see it? - watch the pain.

But you should be ok because you’re not female like me..........I don’t think shango likes females, specially my kind. LOL 😂
Grumpy
maybe you should just re cap it. lol
