Amazing guy, car repairs, radio and TV repairs, mine exploring and even a drainage repair, are there no bounds to this guys skills? Don't know about the candidates during the broadcast, but I'd vote shango for president any day of the week. Though thinking on that he would probably be excluded as he has skills and common sense.
we enjoyed the debate on your fantastic color roundie screened with a laser projector onto a 200'' wall screen. what a great Saturday afternoon! thank you for for the experience and fingers crossed for your future projects!
Don't worry if I'm still watching Shango. Lol. I watch all your videos to the bitter end. This is my Saturday entertainment with educational extras. I don't usually comment but I watch them all and cannot wait till the next one! Thanks for ALL you do man!
I did not think i would watch the entire debate section of this video, but it turned out to be too interesting to skip, lol. As a finnish person it is always good to hear Finland mentioned in positive light. In Finland most people do not have heath insurance, and this is why: a year ago i broke my ankle in a bicycle accident, i had go to ER where doctors examined me, x-rays were taken, i got plastic mold and walking sticks from hospital. During next 6 months i had sevral follo-up x-rays and doctors consultation. I do not remember the whole bill i got from the hospital, but it was like 100 - 200 euro. I can only imagine how many thousand it would be in USA
All those squares reminds me of a Battlestar Galactica's Viper screen, you are a master at vintage TV repair. Thank you for your passion, I can't think of anything better on You Tube or Cable!
I have a 1963 zenith roundy that a gentleman from Hastings Minnesota is going to restore for me. I gave him an old Admiral TV a great big console set with am/fm radio and phonograph. He told me he had all the parts for the zenith. And he said he's just going to replace the picture tube rather than dealing with a cataract I can't wait for it to be done. But it will be a while before it is done. He tore up his arm badly when he got it back to his place unloading it. It was in a metal cabinet. It required seven stitches. I reached out to him yesterday and he's doing good.
@aprules2 I just talked to the guy he was doing the work and I think he's just going to go ahead and remove the cataracts. But he also stated that the CRT is on the weaker side. The green gun being the worst for wear
Incredible fix and the suspense (not for the debate) but could shango get the color locked in with only three minutes to the broadcast starting? Of course he can! Really enjoyed the vid and debate on this vintage set, wish i could have been sitting there with a beer in real life. Thanks once again for sharing this amazing content with us mear mortals.
When I grew up our first color set was an RCA and my dad mentioned that they were the best "Color" sets on the market (according to the "Retailer sales/ repairmen" selling them); and I'd have agree. THE COLOR and sound on this roundy is phenomenal especially for being 60+ year old! (Try that with today's sets.) Back to current days: Looks like CBS's little fact checking backfired on them.😂 Mic drop anyone?
I'm 43 years old and I've been fooling with TVs for a while now, and like with all my obsessions I talked to everybody old to ask questions about the old stuff that I like and I'm a zenith fan but my mother says that her father swore by the old RCA color TVs in the 60s, he always bought RCA. I think they owned a roundie when my mom was a kid and a rectangular after the Vietnam era. By the time I was a kid going over there it was a solid state RCA console. Xl- 100 probably. By what my mother describes and pictures I've seen I believe this television is close to what they had when she was a kid.
The color on that set is amazing. I would love to find an old roundie, its right up there with finding an old 70's 13" b&w goldstar . I look forward to these vids every weekend
I remember setting up my Heathkit 21" rect set (solid state). Heath back then was selling kit versions of either RCA or Zenith sets. TV had a built in dot generator for convergence alignment. Lot's of fun getting that perfectly dialed in.
I don't get into politics none whatsoever but what I've heard and what I've seen so far it's really when the vice presidential candidates seem to be more intelligent and more appealing than the ones that are running for president I mean they seem way more they're actually debating facts they're not just that they're arguing and bickering with each other and I don't know but I think the two that are running for president should be the vice president and the two that are vice presidents should be running for the presidency
I used to watch atsc normally on my Toshiba tv with rca converter but i noticed i could see the bars on the crt when the tv was off so i turned on the stretch picture to fill the screen.
Excellent video! Those remote roundies were probably the *safest* sets around at that time. The customer could change the channel without having to walk up to the TV and risk getting sarcoma or carcinoma.
I love watching the details of adjusting the color. Always something small like tube not seated well for audio. You sure know what your doing. The debate looked well and I like roundie sets they don't make them like they used to. I know neither candidate answered the question.
Those remotes worked pretty well, but the hand units were garbage. We had a CTC17 with that front control setup. The CTC17 was RCA's first rectangular set.
35:00 center convergence. Have you seen how they recommended using a low power microscope to check the dot convergence? I always wondered how it could be that sensitive when in the end there's a certain amount of compromise?
About half way through I saw some old grey haired bloke worshiping the climate religion with taxpayers money and that was all too much for me. I'll be back to watch next weeks repair.
Yeah I was still here at the 26 minute mark as I was making dinner. This TV has a nice picture that's after it colour locked that is. The VP Debates however were interesting but a bunch of he said she said bullshit.
It was a bit painful to watch poor ole Timmy make his anachronistic errors. Of course Tim hasn't been involved in the current administration's activities for the last 3 - 3/4 years, so it's easy for him to make those mistakes. It was good of JD to fact check and correct him regarding the things he criticized Trump for were things done by and during the term of the current administration which has been Biden/Harris. It's far too late in the game to blame the previous administration. That only works for about the first 6 months. An honest mistake no doubt.
We bought our set in 1966, What were those,t he 65 model year? The picture tube went bad the first week . The RCA service company replaced it with a Colorama RCA replacement When the tech installed the new tube there was a convergence problem. , He replaced the rectifier pack on the convergence board, he tore it moff the board with pliers and a Weller gun. think early solid state! The replacement tube was still going strong when we sold the set 17 years later for $65
We need to invest in nuclear power again. It's the greenest energy we have. People are scared by Fukushima and Chernobyl, but those reactors wouldn't have passed US design standards. Three Mile Island, which was based on 1950's standards even when it was built, caused zero deaths and no environmental disaster. Imagine what we could do with a more efficient modern design.
Skipped through a lot of the video / double speed. Man that color lock was timed to perfection! Not sure how good the lens is without a proper bond, have you ever tried any? Old timer who passed away last year occasionally restored crts, he was using some uv optical resin to rebond the front glass on the roundies. Next time I see his son i'll have to ask if I can look over his notes (he was meticulous, just like that video you put up a few weeks / months ago) and kept detailed notes on all of his work and what he used etc.
75 oz. of beer isn't getting me though this. So I stopped at 10 oz when my fail-safe threw down the crow bar. (I like how the tv had a hard time locking). I want to put this recording onto 1" type C reel to reel video tape for the next time I have to trouble shoot one of those decks while running maximum search FF, which is really really fast on those VPR3 decks (like 200x). I can't do it any other way cuz they AALLL lie. (and if the deck is going to have a nasty high speed tape servo crash it should be on this material).
Third question . . . so far this is like watching two chickens take as long to play a game of checkers as it takes two wise men to play best 2-out-of-3 games of chess.
Buddy, what´s annoying with watching some shitty tv on an awsome , classic television cabinet. I liked the last b/w session- now in colour, baby! WooHoo!
You could have just left the sound turned off, in the past I have watched debates with the sound off while listening to music to see how each candidate "looks" while answering questions. Walz looks like he is backpedaling(defending) all the time, and Vance looks like he is always on offense. I think Walz took notes during the debate, him looking down so much looks bad. The Democrats have to say "gun violence", they can't say "crime and criminals" because it hurts them politically to do so.
I hope you never stop making content, this is some of the best content I have seen on UA-cam in a long time.
Agreed
Oh yes…
He's a legend

Thank you for helping me stay sober with your channel.
Everything I know about retro tube tech and politics I learn on this channel.
His channel and Mr. Carlson's lab are the best for electronics learning!
Not gonna lie. I love watching you do setups on color televisions. So satisfying to watch it all come together.
Its almost an artform, isn't it.
Thanks!

Fantastic! Will be coordinating with you soon to get the set back
I think the capacitors and color issues should be corrected first
@@shango066 yessir! Saw that in the latter half. Love watching your videos. No rush.
Amazing I really hope you never stop making these videos. They’re amazing.
Saturday is a Shango day, sunday is Project Farm day ❤
Todd's got a great channel! Best damn product reviews online...period.
Wow an actual debate with people who make sense when they talk!
One of them made some sense.

What a fin job you have done on alignment. The crosshatch was superb. Wouldn't have been better brand new. Fantastic.

Great video as always Dr Shango
I really enjoyed watching the debate on this RCA !! Excellent video as usual !!!
Love seeing these old US roundie Colour TVs.
That was a nice picture... I'll bet it smelled wonderful.

Shango's time guys
One got da red tie, one got a blue un.
One have hair, one not got.
I am undecided 😂
I think the RCA roundies are usually the best chromatic experience. Always looks rich and deep.
Got that looking pretty good on stock guts! 👌
37:22 That white grid is bang on man! How I would love to own a colour/color roundie like this here in the UK.
"Guv Walz, what you gonna do?"
"Trump is bad."
Return of the orange man
26 minutes in, keep it coming I'll sit through the whole thing, 👍👍👍👍
Despite a weak picture tube and all original electrolitics, it still performed real well. Those roundies have great color.
the halleluya moment comes at 1:00:26

You just brought me back to my childhood talking about slinky , remember the song ?? 🤣🤣

what irks me about the Presidential election is that both partys have had at 12 years suitable candidates and instead we have this mess
Great that the TV mades it well untill the end. Thank you for that video.

My friend's family had that same style set (Non Remote) as their first color set.
What beautiful color I can’t believe it

I so miss the color reproduction on these old sets.

At 1:00:30 is the moment when you know you've fixed the set.😅
its more entertaining when the tv had color issues, only thing missing is vertical oscillator issues
Funky disco colors going on there there. :-)
Never seen something like that in the PAL color part of the world.
Picture looks good.
Who needs acid when you can just buy a busted TV set 🤣
About half way through I saw some old grey haired bloke worshiping the climate religion with taxpayers money and that was all too much for me. I'll be back to watch next weeks repair.

Why does the circle go outside the square at the bottom?
Maybe the VG91 needs alignment?
Would still be interesting to see how the post-recapping picture turned out.
