I really appreciate you're videos. I have true love of tube TVs. I don't know why, but I do. I really miss the puzzles, trying to find problems on old vintage equipment. Now, I'm an automation electrician / programming. I still get to wow people with my skills sometimes. I want you to know that my youngest daughter enjoys watching your videos, and she sees me work on old radios. I think She'll follow along, when she gets older.
Shango066 made a video of cleaning a TV? What is this, some kind of holiday weekend or something? ;-) By the way for the next spam call you should pretend that you're calling them for assistance with the repair. "Hello sir how are you doing?" "Well, I'm wondering why I'm not getting any color demodulation. I replaced all the tubes, ohmed out all the coils. I think the pots are open. You think that might be it?" "Uhhh..." "Both of them though? But it makes sense, if both of the pots are bad it's not going to demodulate anything". That should be a fun way to waste their time ;-)
Jac Goudsmit - or better yet, ask the telemarketers if they’re having problems with their picture bulb TVs, then ramble on about flyback arcing and low high voltage. Ask them if the damper tube is busted. Or if they see the filaments in the transistors lighting up. 😊 Finally, suggest they EOL the set with fireworks.
fantastic bit of fun. don't know how i stumbled upon your comment. i'm not really interested in electronics- he must have had a trending post some years ago, and am often delighted with his take on current americana that seeps out of these devices when he gets them going.
I have a 1970s Montgomery Ward AM/FM Stereo/8-track receiver, GEN 6214A. That sucker is built to LAST. Hell, even the volume control is minimally scratchy! Wards certainly had some good electronics back in the day.
Great picture for one of those sets. Excellent work. These were considered as junk in late 80's TV shop wise as a Black and White TV would have been. We used a Air compressor to clean all the dirt and a soft bristle paint brush. Never water on the components. Thanks Shango!
Shango you kill me absolutely kill me toying with that phone caller there should be more people in the world like you this is so great I love the way you think!!!😂😂
Finally that horrid "joker" picture (green/purple colour) is gone. Interesting how a chroma-demod fault can cause that kind of symptom, but not all that uncommon. I had a Philips K-11 (1977) chassis with that very problem - another guy reckoned it was a cathode short in the CRT (but a check confirmed all 3 guns were even with strong emission and no shorts - plus the grey scale was correct with the colour turned all the way down - producing a clear B&W picture - upon turning the colour back up, it looked terrible). Replacing the chroma plug-in module and a couple of difference/differential transistors (mainly R-Y and B-Y) on the board fixed the fault, restoring a great colour picture (complete with vibrant greens reds and blues). There was nothing wrong with the tube. Once again, another great video - shango you are the man.
Technology can detect copyrighted content on an old trash tv through the out of focus CRT and distorted audio but cannot bring us a vending machine that sells donuts
Back in 1972 I had just transferred from Fort Lewis Wa to Fort Bliss Texas with the 3rd Armored Cav, the whole unit moved, I went with the advanced party as my wife was with child and would have been about her due date should I have waited for the main body. We needed a TV when we got down there and decided to get our first color set. So it was off to the Globe Shopping City which was just off base, and we found a wonderful looking little set that looked almost exactly like that except for the name, which I know was not Wards but be damned if I can recall the label, some off breed set or another probably made in Japan back then. Well that little set lasted the rest of my time in the Army being moved by professional moving van some 5 times before we made it back to South Dakota, where my eldest sister, who was on welfare at the time needed a TV since she still had the one that I had in my room when I was a kid, an old black and white set with florescent lights all around the picture tube, at it was florescent color, I never took off the shield. So my wife and I purchased a new color set at the Gambles store in town and I gave her that old set, which had served us in Texas, Virginia, Minnesota, Indiana, and back home to South Dakota. She used that old set till 1997 when we moved back home following my retirement from the PD, at which time I gave her my old CRT TV and purchased my first flat screen some time a bit later. Eventually her daughters got her a nice flat screen but that old no name set lasted from 72 through 97 and was never opened up for repairs. Those old sets lasted for years and years if used steadily I guess. Sis is gone now and her TV is in the hands of strangers who screwed her daughter out of their house, but that's a different story I guess.
Now RGB mod it.^^ I really wonder how good an RGB video signal would look on such an old TV. All we ever see on these is noisy RF. Heck, even Composite would be a major improvement.
Another great long vid! And... For that CRT being that tired, it still has an amazingly good picture! Glad you decided to keep going in it. Talk about a case study... lol
Ooooh! Another long Shango TV Video!!! I hit like before I even watched it lol. Well, like the experts who just recap everything would say, you wouldn't have issues if you just stuck it in the dishwasher as the dishwasher won't bend the pins like the brush will. I am impressed how well that tube came to life, I honestly thought that CRT was fried. And, I don't watch much TV anymore, but I always love your commentary on what is on TV. Reminds me of the MST3k or Beavis and Butt-Head commenting on TV. I wish that were a thing but the copyrights would prevent that sadly from having a whole channel of you just complaining on what is on TV.
I am a TV tec I would like to work along side you .You doo your fault finding the way I work when I was younger. Nicola frome the UK have a good day sir
Yayyyy ! A highlight to my day. Sit down, can of pop, some chips, and a new Shango video. Keep ‘em coming. I enjoy your videos. Thank you for making them. Happy late Thanksgiving Shango.
You're Brave! I Hate answering those calls!!! At the 24 min. mark - am I on the right channel? Nice clean ~ Brave, and some still works! You are a trip! THANKS! = ) ~ always . . . ~-*
Love your video's! You're freaking funny! Good job on that resurrection it works great for where it came from. Just awesome love your Mine Explorers Channel big fan of yours.
Those buggers always spoof random numbers, then the poor chump with the spoofed number gets hate calls all day long. I never call back cuz I've had that happen to my number once.
Wow, that tv ic working great considering how bad it was and all the things that are still wrong with it. And a tired CRT to boot. Bang up job there Shango!!!
Great work, on this poor old desert TV! Not a bad picture considering all its been through, and all it still needs, way better than just throwing it away! These sets are just nearly all gone, I enjoy seeing them resurrected! I was laughing so hard, with your treatment of the darned phone solicitations!😁 When I have time, I mess with them too, in the hopes they will remove my number from the list, or flag it as not worthwhile! So enjoy your work, and videos, thanks! Dave, "BigDavesTV" on VK.

Why do the old CRT tellys buzz through the speaker when there is words displayed on the screen? I remember that as a kid and it used annoy the shit outta me.
I'm sure I don't need to tell Shango, but for newbies if you have a valve/tube with low emission and no replacement and you have a basic valve tester (just like a CRT rejuvenator) you can attempt to get a bit more life from a valve by over running the heater for a short period. With a 6.3V heater you can go through the ranges from 12.6V and then the next, (12.6 isn't enough). You can watch the emission - at 12.6 it will rise right up, then the next range for 5 or 10 secs where often it will drop then jump up. Keep an eye out for shorts and don't overdo it. Often a valve can give give normal service for weeks or months. No guarantees though. This of course is so you can order / find a new one without losing use of your radio/tv/amp - and not for passing on to the next guy ))
I'm at 46 minutes in & experiencing some pretty bad barberpole-ing myself at the moment, guess I'm having me a nice migraine shortly. Not gonna stop me watching the rest of the video thoughj
Those scam callers spoof the numbers of random cell phones. A lot of times they use the same area code and prefix as your own number to make you think it's someone you know. I have an app that blocks all "same exchange" calls unless they are in my contacts or recent outgoing calls. Not only does it block spam calls, it also blocks the idiots who call and scream at me because someone spoofed my number.
didn't think it was regional. hellmanns and best food, schilling and mccormick. coldwarmotors posts, Alberta i think, they're always mentioning "spraying some Gibb's on it."
Kudos to the best electronics technician in California. Those fraudster telemarketers are spoofing local and cell phone numbers. I do the same thing trying to waste their time, they usually get impatient and hang up.
WD-40 is great for spraying down a snowblower. Helps prevent wet snow from sticking to the sides. I always spray my snowblower down before and after using it. It seldom clogs using that. Before it'd clog every minute.
shango066 wd40 is a solvent cleaner of naphtha and light oil. it makes a good perts cleaner. according to wd 40 web sight it is OK on every thing but Polycarbonate and clear polystyrene plastic. wd40 now makes a special electronics contact cleaner.
Another Oldie saved from the trash,.. now that's some great work getting that to play,.. What do you do with them after you fix them though? And i agree those scam/spam calls get annoying, i get plenty here also, gotta figure how to stop them, as phone co. sure won't. Can't wait till next video, hope you get more coming out soon, have a good day.
Nice job on restoring this. BTW, at 52:07, it's the clip from the "Macy's Thanksgiving Parade" in NYC. I watched it this past Thursday on TV, and this is a much better version of this when it was on NBC. The CBS version of the Thanksgiving parade sucks. I saw the CBS version and it wasn't that good. 59:12 it goes into Predator mode towards the end.
Macy's is still on NBC, they've owned the naming rights of the event since 1952. CBS shows the same parade, but they don't call it the Macy's parade, since NBC owns that title.
the phone scammers are spoofing people‘s caller ID. If you call back you get the person whose phone they spoofed randomly, not the scammer. Don’t harassed those people they are innocent! Also, the more you interact with them the more they’re going to call you
@@computeraidedworld1148 I think You can use the electrolytic as a D.C. "blocking capacitor" and pass an audio signal to the point in the circuit and not have to worry so much about D.C., if that makes sense. An ideal capacitor shouldn't pass D.C., when capacitors get old and age they tend to fail in a dead short scenario, direct current can flow through the dead short causing failures.
shango066 has mentioned in previous videos that with some of the tube sets he gets working, they go to Hollywood movie/TV studios to be rented out/used as props. The rest he keeps in his "personal stash".
@@RoughJustice2k18 Ok, cool. I've been following/watching for more than a few months (right when he split his channel into two for Mine Explorers and this one) but I don't get to see every video. Good to know that there's an actual use for these.
I was doing "dinner and a movie", and it's a good thing I just finished my food when the phrase "twerk and squirt" was uttered! That's a chortle-worthy saying when repairing vintage gear!
I have an Rca CTC 25 combo set that has me turned upside down. Id really like to ship the chassis to you for repair IF you have a cabinet and crt you could stick it in. It would make a great repair video I think and Id be glad to compensate you for your work. Your channel mentions contact info on mine explorer's but im not getting the option to message that channel. Please consider it!

Hi Shango job well done
Hey, that's my toothbrush!
that tuner cleaning was hilarious!!
Still has good picture with all the issues. Almost there fixed, to me worth finishing repair and restoration.
Nice pressure washer for a small one. Most of those are like trying to wash with a squirt gun.

Scott Kg4yhr72 commifornia still has wd40. It don’t cause cancer yet...

Actually WD40 is great for cleaning paintbrushes when using humbrol enamels.
Somewhere along the line, you've got to do a compilation of all those telemarketer folly bits. :D "Fernerdergggleburrgggerrrr...." "Helllo?"
I Agree, WD-40 is for the most part pretty worthless. It evaporates to quickly to be any kind of a good penetrant and it certainly is not a lubricant.
Also some penetrants are corrosive
Eric Veritas Blair , right it’s a decent solvent and that’s about it.
WD-40 is great for spraying down a snowblower. Helps prevent wet snow from sticking to the sides. I always spray my snowblower down before and after using it. It seldom clogs using that. Before it'd clog every minute.
fred fabris it’s a great hand cleaner..
The "WD" stands for "water displacer". It was made for spraying on the ignition wires of your car so it would start on damp days.
Good job its it hard to make this set to work like this

I watched it this past Thursday on TV, and this is a much better version of this when it was on NBC. The CBS version of the Thanksgiving parade sucks. I saw the CBS version and it wasn't that good.
59:12 it goes into Predator mode towards the end.
Macy's is still on NBC, they've owned the naming rights of the event since 1952. CBS shows the same parade, but they don't call it the Macy's parade, since NBC owns that title.
Is it the camera making the CRT look not too bad?
the phone scammers are spoofing people‘s caller ID. If you call back you get the person whose phone they spoofed randomly, not the scammer. Don’t harassed those people they are innocent!
Also, the more you interact with them the more they’re going to call you
it's the chinese plastic that really makes your wings and burgers sing.
A bit of a newbie question, but why did you send audio through the caps?
He uses it to test to see if the electrolytics are dried out. The lower the value the less bass.
Gregory Malchuk alright thanks
@@computeraidedworld1148 I think You can use the electrolytic as a D.C. "blocking capacitor" and pass an audio signal to the point in the circuit and not have to worry so much about D.C., if that makes sense. An ideal capacitor shouldn't pass D.C., when capacitors get old and age they tend to fail in a dead short scenario, direct current can flow through the dead short causing failures.
I'm curious. What do you do with these repaired TVs and radios? I'm not in the market for one, I'm just curious.
shango066 has mentioned in previous videos that with some of the tube sets he gets working, they go to Hollywood movie/TV studios to be rented out/used as props. The rest he keeps in his "personal stash".
@@RoughJustice2k18 Ok, cool. I've been following/watching for more than a few months (right when he split his channel into two for Mine Explorers and this one) but I don't get to see every video. Good to know that there's an actual use for these.
Annoying Scam Calls so much fun
BEST SHANGO VIDEO EVER
9:18 very good! :)
